上記ポリアクリル酸ナトリウム(部分中和物を含まず)はその1%水溶液の25℃における粘度が500mPa・s以上の性質を備えている物が好ましい。もし上記ポリアクリル酸ナトリウム水溶液の粘度が500mPa・s未満になると、所定の粘度を得るために、上記ポリアクリル酸ナトリウム水溶液の濃度を高くする必要があるため潤滑性や配合組成の点で色々と問題が出てくる。ポリアクリル酸ナトリウム水溶液の粘度はポリアクリル酸ナトリウムの重合度によって支配され、例えばポリアクリル酸ナトリウムの粘度平均分子量35000の1%水溶液の25℃における粘度は約11000mPa・sである。
