Description
The present invention relates to a discharge lighting device and a lighting fixture using the same.
Conventionally, in a discharge plasma generation space between discharge electrodes used in a discharge plasma device such as a light emitting device having an airtight container filled with a discharge gas and a pair of discharge electrodes arranged in the airtight container. As a discharge plasma generation auxiliary device for assisting the generation of the discharge plasma, an electron source capable of supplying electrons into the discharge gas is provided in the hermetic container, and the electrons are discharged from the electron source at an appropriate timing to thereby reduce the discharge start voltage. It is known that effects such as reduction, reduction of discharge plasma sustain voltage, and stabilization of discharge plasma can be obtained (see, for example, Patent Document 1). In addition, in the above-mentioned
ところで、放電プラズマ生成補助装置として利用する電子源としては、例えば、フィラメントのような熱電子を放出する電子源の他に、Spindt型電子源、BSD(Ballistic electronSurface-emitting Device)型電子源、MIM(Metal-Insulator-Metal)型電子源、MIS(Metal-Insulator-Semiconductor)型電子源などの電界放射型電子源がある。
The specification of the electron source required to reduce the discharge start voltage between the pair of discharge electrodes in the discharge lighting device having a pair of discharge electrodes and an electron source is a discharge gas sealed in an airtight container. The actual conditions vary greatly depending on the conditions such as the type of gas, the gas pressure, the distance between the discharge electrodes, and the conditions such as the amount of reduction in the desired discharge start voltage. The specifications of the discharge plasma device (the type of discharge gas, the gas pressure Therefore, there is a need for a design guideline for easily designing the specifications of the electron source based on the distance between the discharge electrodes.
The present invention has been made in view of the above reasons, and its purpose is to provide a discharge lighting device capable of reducing a discharge start voltage according to specifications such as the type of discharge gas, gas pressure, and arrangement of discharge electrodes, and the like. It is in providing the used lighting fixture.
According to a first aspect of the present invention, there is provided at least a pair of discharge electrodes for applying an electric field to the discharge gas sealed in the hermetic vessel to generate discharge plasma, and electrons disposed in the hermetic vessel in the discharge gas. An electron source that can be supplied, and the electron source is controlled such that the sum of the initial energy of the electron and the energy obtained by the electric field exceeds the ionization energy of the discharge gas for at least some of the electrons emitted from the electron source. Control means for controlling is provided. Here, the energy obtained by the electric field between the discharge electrodes paired with the electrons emitted from the electron source depends on the product of the electric field strength between the paired discharge electrodes and the mean free path of the electrons in the discharge gas. However, while the electric field strength depends on the voltage applied between the paired discharge electrodes and the distance between the paired discharge electrodes, the mean free path depends on the type and gas pressure of the discharge gas in the hermetic vessel. It depends on the specifications of the discharge lighting device regardless of the initial energy of electrons emitted from the electron source.
According to the present invention, the electron source is such that the sum of the initial energy of the electron and the energy obtained by the electric field between the discharge electrodes exceeds the ionization energy of the discharge gas for at least some of the electrons emitted from the electron source. Since the discharge gas is excited by electrons having energy larger than the ionization energy of the discharge gas in the hermetic container, the type of discharge gas, the gas pressure, the arrangement of the discharge electrodes, etc. The discharge start voltage can be reduced according to the specifications.
According to a first aspect of the present invention, the pair of discharge electrodes are arranged in a plane perpendicular to the direction in which the pair of discharge electrodes are arranged apart from each other in an airtight container. One of the discharge electrodes and the electron source are arranged, and the one discharge electrode and the electron source are separate .
According to the invention, the other discharge electrode side in the vicinity of one of the discharge electrodes of the electron source is the pair of discharge electrodes in comparison with the case being spaced apart on the opposite side, since emitted electrons are likely to collide with the discharge electric gas from electron source it can be effectively utilized for excitation of discharge electricity gas emitted electrons from electron source.
According to a second aspect of the present invention, in the first aspect of the invention, the electron source includes a lower electrode, a surface electrode opposed to the lower electrode, and a plurality of semiconductor micrometers on the order of nanometers interposed between the lower electrode and the surface electrode. A field emission electron source including a strong electric field drift layer formed on the surface of each of the crystal and each semiconductor microcrystal and having a number of insulating films having a thickness smaller than a crystal grain size of the semiconductor microcrystal. To do.
According to the present invention, since the initial energy of electrons emitted from the electron source is higher than when a filament or a Spindt type electron source is adopted as the electron source, the electrons emitted from the electron source are It becomes possible to reduce the energy obtained by the electric field, and it is possible to reduce the discharge start voltage even when the energy emitted from the electron source by the electric field is small due to the specification of the discharge lighting device. Become.
The invention of
According to this invention, by controlling the cooling means by the control means so that the electron source is cooled by the cooling means, the scattering of electrons in the strong electric field drift layer of the electron source is reduced. Since the proportion of electrons with high initial energy increases with respect to the energy distribution of electrons emitted from the electron source and the number of electrons exceeding the ionization energy of the discharge gas can be increased, the discharge starting voltage is more reliably reduced. It becomes possible to do.
According to a fourth aspect of the present invention, the discharge lighting device according to any one of the first to third aspects is provided.
According to this invention, it is possible to reduce the discharge start voltage of the discharge lighting device in the lighting fixture.
According to the first aspect of the invention, there is an effect that the discharge start voltage can be reduced according to specifications such as the type of discharge gas, gas pressure, and arrangement of discharge electrodes.
(Embodiment 1)
As shown in FIG. 1A, the discharge plasma apparatus according to the present embodiment includes an
The discharge lamp La is a straight tube type discharge lamp, and the
The
As shown in FIG. 2B, the strong electric
In order to emit electrons from the above-described
Here, in the above-described
The basic configuration of the above-described
In the above-described strong electric
In a discharge lighting device in this embodiment, by applying a DC voltage for driving the
Therefore, the control means 20 in the present embodiment is the sum of the initial energy of electrons and the energy obtained by the electric field between the
For example, when the discharge gas is Xe gas and the gas pressure is 10 Pa, the ionization energy of the discharge gas is 12.1 eV, the mean free path of electrons in the discharge gas is 350 μm, and the
Here, if the driving voltage of the
Even when the specification of the discharge lamp La is changed and the energy obtained while the electrons travel through the mean free path changes, the initial energy of the electrons emitted from the
In the above example, a BSD type electron source is used as the
In the discharge lighting device of the present embodiment described above, the initial energy of electrons and the energy obtained by the electric field between the
In the above embodiment, both the pair of discharge electrodes (the
(Embodiment 2)
The basic configuration of the discharge plasma apparatus of the present embodiment is substantially the same as that of the first embodiment. As shown in FIG. 3, the
Incidentally, the mean free path of electrons emitted from the
On the other hand, in the discharge lighting device of the present embodiment, the
(Embodiment 3)
The basic configuration of the discharge plasma apparatus according to the present embodiment is substantially the same as that of the first embodiment. As shown in FIG. 4, the
The
By the way, in the discharge lighting device of
On the other hand, the discharge lighting device of the present embodiment includes the
In the discharge lighting device according to the present embodiment described above, the initial energy of electrons and the energy obtained by the electric field between the
(Embodiment 4)
The basic configuration of the discharge plasma apparatus of the present embodiment is the same as that of the first embodiment. As shown in FIG. 5, as a cooling means capable of cooling the
The
Accordingly, when a current is applied to the
In the discharge lighting device of the present embodiment, the
Here, one of the reasons why the energy distribution of the emitted electrons at 300 K is relatively wide is considered to be scattering due to lattice vibration of silicon atoms constituting the
In addition, a temperature sensing element composed of a thermistor element (not shown) is provided on the insulating
