Description
The present invention relates to an ink cartridge for storing ink and an ink jet recording apparatus to which the ink cartridge is attached.
2. Description of the Related Art Conventionally, some ink jet printers equipped with an ink cartridge for storing ink are provided with an ink remaining amount sensor for detecting the remaining amount of ink in the ink cartridge. Further, as such an ink remaining amount sensor, for example, an optical ink provided with a light emitter and a light receiver that receives light emitted from the light emitter and transmitted through a translucent ink cartridge. Some have a remaining amount sensor (see, for example, Patent Document 1).
By the way, in the ink jet printer provided with the above-described optical ink remaining amount sensor, not only the ink remaining in the ink cartridge is actually low, but also the state in which the ink cartridge is not attached is not remaining. It is determined that the amount is small. In addition, when the user removes the ink cartridge from the mounting portion when the remaining amount of ink in the ink cartridge is low, it is detected only by the ink remaining amount sensor that the ink cartridge has been removed. I can't. Therefore, the ink jet printer cannot recognize whether or not the ink cartridge is mounted, and various operations in the ink jet printer, such as ink ejection, occur. Further, if a cartridge detection sensor for detecting the mounting state of the ink cartridge is provided separately from the ink remaining amount sensor, the above problem can be solved, but the cost increases due to the provision of another sensor. .
An object of the present invention is to provide an ink cartridge and an ink jet recording apparatus capable of detecting the mounting state of the ink cartridge and the remaining amount of ink in the ink cartridge by one detection means.
The ink cartridge of the present invention is an ink cartridge for the ink jet recording apparatus is detachably mounted along the predetermined direction having a transmission type optical sensor having a light emitting portion and a light receiving portion, a translucent An ink chamber that stores ink, an ink outlet hole that is located on one side of the ink chamber and guides the ink in the ink chamber to the outside, and is formed outward from the side wall of the ink chamber. When projecting and having two surfaces extending in the hole axial direction of the ink outlet hole, the ink chamber becomes non-translucent when the amount of ink in the ink chamber exceeds a predetermined amount, and the amount of ink in the ink chamber is less than the predetermined amount The first convex portion , which is in a translucent state, and a straight line passing through the first convex portion and parallel to the hole axis direction are arranged at positions separated from the first convex portion by a predetermined distance. Translucent second It includes a convex portion, the second convex portion, a first of said ink outlet hole side than the convex portion, on the way to the ink jet recording apparatus is being or retrieved mounted, wherein the light emitting portion first light irradiated is arranged in a position that will be blocked in two of the projections.
The ink jet recording apparatus of the present invention as viewed from a different aspect, an ink jet head for ejecting ink onto a recording medium, and the ink cartridge of the present invention, detachably mounted the ink cartridge along a predetermined direction A cartridge mounting portion. The cartridge mounting portion includes a transmissive optical sensor having a light emitting portion and a light receiving portion, and the first convex portion is irradiated from the light emitting portion in a state where the ink cartridge is mounted on the cartridge mounting portion. Light is blocked when the ink in the ink chamber is greater than or equal to a predetermined amount and allowed to pass when the ink in the ink chamber is less than the predetermined amount, thereby detecting the first convex portion, and the ink cartridge While the cartridge is mounted or taken out, the second projection is detected by blocking light emitted from the light emitting unit to the second projection.
According to the present invention, in a state where the ink cartridge is mounted on the cartridge mounting portion of the ink jet recording apparatus, the ink remaining amount in the ink cartridge is detected from the first convex portion of the ink cartridge by the transmissive optical sensor. On the other hand, when the ink cartridge is attached to and removed from the cartridge attachment portion, the transmission type optical sensor detects that the second convex portion has passed through the transmission type optical sensor. For this reason, it is possible to detect the mounting state of the ink cartridge and the remaining amount of ink in the ink cartridge with one transmissive optical sensor.
In the present invention, the first convex portion may be formed on only one of the two side wall portions facing each other parallel to the hole axial direction of the ink outlet hole of the ink chamber. preferable. Since the shape of the ink cartridge is asymmetrical, it is difficult for erroneous mounting.
Further, in the present invention, a pair of side walls formed with the first protrusions of the ink chamber are extended along the first protrusions so as to sandwich the first protrusions. Ribs are preferably formed. According to this, since the rib performs a guide function when the ink cartridge is attached to the ink jet recording apparatus, the ink cartridge can be accurately attached to the ink jet recording apparatus.
In addition, in the present invention, it is preferable that the width of the first and second convex portions is narrower than the distance from the light emitting portion to the light receiving portion. According to this, the ink cartridge can be easily attached and detached.
In the present invention, it is preferable that the width of the second convex portion is narrower than the distance between the two surfaces of the first convex portion. The second convex portion may be formed of a thin plate member. Furthermore, it is more preferable that the protrusion distance of the second protrusion is shorter than the protrusion distance of the first protrusion. According to these, since the second convex portion can easily pass through the transmissive optical sensor, the ink cartridge can be attached and detached more easily.
Furthermore, in the present invention, when the ink jet recording apparatus is mounted, the ink lead-out hole is fitted with a communication pipe provided in the ink jet recording apparatus for supplying ink to the ink jet head. It is preferable that the ink outlet hole has a valve member that opens the ink outlet hole when the communication pipe is fitted. According to this, it is possible to prevent ink leakage from the ink supply passage when the ink cartridge is used.
Embodiments of the present invention will be described. In this embodiment, the present invention is applied to a color inkjet printer capable of ejecting four colors of ink.
As shown in FIG. 1, the color inkjet printer 1 includes
In the ink jet printer 1, the recording paper P is transported in the left-right direction in FIG. 1 by the transport mechanism 6 while the ink jet head 2 is reciprocated in the direction perpendicular to the paper surface of FIG. In conjunction with this, ink is supplied from the
Further, the purge device 7 is movable in a direction approaching / separating from the ink discharge surface and can be mounted on the inkjet head 2 so as to cover the ink discharge surface, and suction for sucking ink from the
The four
At the bottom of the
Next, the
As shown in FIGS. 2 to 4, the
The
An
A
As shown in FIGS. 4 and 5, the
The lower surface of the
The urging
As shown in FIGS. 5 and 6, the
An
As shown in FIGS. 5 and 6, the
When the

As shown in FIG. 4, the
The
Accordingly, in a state where the ink remaining amount in the
Unlike the cartridge
On the side wall portion (outer wall parallel to the ink outflow direction) of the
The
The
Next, the control device 8 will be described. The control device 8 controls various operations of the ink jet printer 1 such as ejection of ink from the
Further, the control device 8 determines a mounting
ここで、図9におけるSi(i=10,11,12・・・)は各ステップを示す。
Hereinafter, the operation of the mounting
First, when the
When the
In the remaining ink amount calculation process of S14, when the
Note that information such as the mounting state of the
According to the embodiment described above, it is possible to detect whether or not the
Further, since the protruding
Further, when the
In addition, since a predetermined interval is maintained between the
Further, since the width of the
Further, since the
Although the embodiments of the present invention have been described above, the present invention is not limited to the above-described embodiments, and various design changes can be made as long as they are described in the claims. For example, in the embodiment, the connecting
Moreover, in this Embodiment, although the
Furthermore, in the present embodiment, the
In addition, in the present embodiment, when the
In the present embodiment, the width of the
Further, in the present embodiment, the rib-like
