紐状基材21は、ポリエチレンやポリプロピレン、軟質塩化ビニールなどの合成樹脂材料や、アルミニウム合金などの金属材料を押出成形して製作した、断面略U字状の部材で構成されている。特に、紐状基材21として、柔軟性を有する合成樹脂材料からなるものを採用すると、前述のように、基材マット10に対して文字や記号などを模るように取り付けたり、駐車場等における案内表示を模るように取り付けたりするときに、紐状人工芝20を容易に折り曲げることができるので好ましい。また、押出成形品で構成すると、紐状基材21を安価に製作することができる。更に、紐状基材21を断面略U字状に形成することで、紐状基材21内に上方へ向けて開口する溝部23が形成され、この溝部23が雨水や散水等を一時的に貯留する貯水空間とし機能するので、散水回数を少なくできる。尚、このような溝部23を有する押出成形品からなる紐状基材21としては、図6(a)に示すような断面U型の紐状基材21以外に、図6(b)に示すような断面H型の紐状基材21Aや、図6(c)に示すような断面Y型の紐状基材21Bを採用することもできる。但し、紐状基材21としては、人工芝22を植設可能な細長い部材からなるものであれば、任意の構成のものを採用することができる。例えば、合成樹脂繊維を平織した平坦な帯状の基布を紐状基材21として採用することもできる。この場合には、絨毯などにおけるパイル糸の植設方法と同様に、タフティングにより人工芝22を植設させることができる。また、円柱や円筒状の紐状基材を採用し、この紐状部材の内部空間を貯水空間として活用することもできる。   The string-like base material 21 is configured by a member having a substantially U-shaped cross section produced by extrusion molding a synthetic resin material such as polyethylene, polypropylene, or soft vinyl chloride, or a metal material such as an aluminum alloy.
