Description
The present invention relates to an inductive link.
Power efficiency is one of the important design parameters of power amplifiers. In order to realize high-frequency communication with high efficiency, it is important to determine the operation class in the power amplifier.
In the case of a constant signal (envelope), by using a transistor as a high frequency switch, a power amplifier with high power efficiency can be obtained in class D and E amplification. In class D amplification, two transistors connected in series are alternately turned on and off to generate a rectangular wave voltage signal equal to the switching frequency, and a fundamental component is received in a tuning circuit that receives a signal from a power amplifier. I'm pulling out. The frequency of the tuning circuit is equal to the switching frequency. In class E amplification, the power source transistor is replaced with a high frequency coil (RFC), and a capacitor is provided between the output of the power amplifier and the ground. For this reason, the current flowing through the load resistor is the current component flowing through the capacitor and the AC component of the current flowing through the transistor. In class E amplification, the on-resistance of the transistor is related to the power efficiency loss P diss (the product of drain voltage and drain current). In class D amplification and class E amplification, the product of the drain voltage and the drain current is zero on the time axis, but actually there is no zero for various reasons. Therefore, it is required to reduce this product.
On the other hand, from the viewpoint of data transfer, in an inductive link using electromagnetic coupling in short-distance data transfer, the junction coefficient between the reception coil and the transmission coil is about 0.01 to 0.001, which is very small. The power extracted for the load from the secondary coil is very small compared to the power from the primary side. For this reason, in signal power transmission using electromagnetic coupling, the load of the power amplifier is an inductive load. When the signal power is not extracted on the secondary side, the power on the primary side is reflected from the transmission coil and returned to the power amplifier, and becomes heat in the switch transistor of the power amplifier. As a result, the loss increases.
Therefore, in communication on an inductive link, in order to increase the efficiency of the transmitter, it is required to suppress excessive input of signal power and to suppress loss in the switching transistor. If this is satisfied, an inductive link using electromagnetic coupling is advantageous in terms of power consumption compared to a link using a radiating antenna.
The present invention has been made in view of such circumstances, and an object thereof is to provide an inductive link with low power consumption.

According to this inductive link, transmission of data to the receiver is performed by electromagnetic coupling between the receiving coil and the transmitting coil of the receiver. In the initial response of the inductive link, since the parallel resonant circuit becomes a capacitive load, a current is supplied from the power source to the load of the inductive link. In the resonance state, when there is no change in the transmission symbol indicating the digital data to be transmitted, the load of the switching amplifier becomes high impedance, and the energy flowing into the load is limited. When the transmission symbol is switched, power is consumed. For this reason, an inductive link with good power efficiency is provided.
In the inductive link according to the present invention, each filter includes second to i-th tank circuits each having an inductor and a capacitor, and each of the second to i-th tank circuits includes odd harmonics of the fundamental frequency. It has a resonance frequency corresponding to any one ("i" is a natural number of 2 or more).
According to this inductive link, these tank circuits operate as a parallel resonant circuit (load) having a high impedance with respect to odd-order frequency components of the output signal of the switching amplifier, and the fundamental wave of the output signal of the switching amplifier. The component reaches the first tank circuit.

According to this inductive link, not only the switching amplifier but also the modulation circuit is constituted by a digital circuit, so a linear amplifier is not required.

FIG. 2 is a diagram schematically showing the switching
For this purpose, the

If necessary, the
As described above, in the

FIG. 3 is a diagram showing signal waveforms at main circuit nodes in the inductive link. A modulated carrier code signal generated by digital calculation in a modulation circuit (for example, a rectangular wave having a duty ratio of 50:50 as shown in FIG. 3A) is applied to the gate voltage of a CMOS inverter used as a coil driver amplifier. Enter. The transmission signal transmitted by inductive coupling from the transmission coil to the reception coil is extracted as a sine wave from the harmonic component contained in the rectangular wave by filtering using an LC tank circuit having a resonance frequency in the fundamental wave of the carrier. . As shown in FIG. 3B, the CMOS inverter generates a substantially rectangular wave at the drain. The phase of the drain voltage is inverted from the phase of the gate voltage. When an ideal rectangular wave signal is applied to the gate and the power supply voltage V DD is used, the drain voltage Vd is expressed by Expression (1) in FIG. 4 using a Fourier series. Next, the power loss of the switching amplifier will be described. As can be understood from the above description, the power loss of the switching amplifier is obtained by adding a load having a high impedance to the odd-order harmonic components in series to the output of the switching amplifier that generates the rectangular wave signal. Can be limited. In the following explanation, in an inductive link using class F operation, how much power consumption improvement is achieved in the power efficiency of the circuit that processes only the fundamental wave and the power efficiency of the circuit in which the filter in the filtering circuit is changed to various stages. Estimate by simulation.

FIG. 5 is a diagram illustrating a waveform of a current flowing through a resistor R in a filtering circuit having odd-numbered harmonic filters of various stages. As shown in FIG. 5A, the current value waveform (reference current waveform of only the DC component) in the circuit without the odd-order harmonic filter is shown, and the horizontal axis (time axis) of the graph shown in FIG. ) Is normalized by the time per cycle of the carrier frequency, and the vertical axis (current axis) is the maximum current value I max = V DD / 2R of the resistor R (6)
Has been normalized. FIG. 5B shows a current waveform in a link including a resonance circuit that resonates with the fundamental frequency component. FIG. 5C shows a current waveform in a link including a resonance circuit that resonates with the fundamental frequency component f 1 and the third-order high-frequency component f 3 . FIG. 5D shows a current waveform in a link including a resonance circuit that resonates with the fundamental frequency component f 1 and the third-order and fifth-order high-frequency components f 3 and f 5 . FIG. 5E shows a current waveform in a link including a resonance circuit that resonates with the fundamental frequency component f 1 and the third, fifth, and seventh high frequency components f 3 , f 5 , and f 7 . FIG. 5 (f) shows a current waveform in a link including a resonance circuit resonating with the fundamental frequency component f 1 and the third, fifth, seventh and ninth high frequency components f 3 , f 5 , f 7 and f 9. . FIG. 5 shows that the current flowing through the load R is limited by the addition of the harmonic filter.
FIG. 6 shows how the power consumption improvement effect per unit time changes according to the number of stages of the blocking filter. In the link using the LC tank circuit of only the fundamental wave, the power consumption improvement effect of about 81% can be obtained. In a link that tunes odd-order components from the fundamental wave component to the ninth-order harmonic component, the power loss of the inductive link can be reduced by about 96%.
As understood from the above description, the power consumption of the inductive link roughly corresponds to the power lost as heat in the resistor R. The average power consumption can be calculated by dividing the current component flowing through the resistor R into the following two types of components. These two types of components are a steady current component that flows during transmission of an unmodulated carrier and a transient current component that flows when a symbol is switched.
PLoss=(Vd−V1)2/R=IR 2×R (4)
Imax=VDD/2R (6)
First, the steady current component is estimated. In the case of transmitting an unmodulated carrier, the average power consumption of the inductive link is expressed by the formula P Loss = (V d −V 1 ) 2 / R = I R 2 × R (4)
I max = V DD / 2R (6)
And represented by the equation (7) shown in FIG.
Cm=C1/(2m−1)
Next, the transient current component is estimated. The transient current component that flows when the symbol is switched is a current that accompanies charging / discharging of the capacitor of each LC resonance circuit. Energy is required when the transition symbol changes from “0” to “1” and from “1” to “0”. This energy is represented by time integration of energy stored in each capacitor and electric power consumed as heat at the load R. For this reason, the energy consumed by the change of 1 symbol is represented by Formula (8) shown in FIG.7 (b). This energy is C m = C 1 / (2m−1) in the m-th stage (m: natural number).
The capacitance represented by −2 × V DD / ((2m−1) × π)
To + 2 × V DD / ((2m−1) × π)
The total energy from the first stage to the m-th stage is obtained with respect to the energy to be charged. The average power consumption due to symbol transition is expressed by equation (9) shown in FIG.
Therefore, the entire average power consumption is the sum of the static average power consumption and the dynamic average power consumption, and this is expressed by Expression (10) shown in FIG. FIG. 7E shows the relationship between the number of stages of the blocking filter and the detailed value of the average power consumption.
As described above, the inductive link using the class F switching amplifier provides a wireless data transmitter with ultra-low power consumption. In this inductive link, a non-linear amplifier that performs an on / off switching operation is used to drive the transmission coil, and a modulated carrier code generated by digital computation is input to the input of the non-linear amplifier. The transmission signal is extracted from the harmonic component contained in the rectangular wave by filtering with an LC tank circuit having a resonance frequency in the fundamental wave. At this time, in order to cause the power amplifier to perform class F operation, a load having a high impedance with respect to odd-order harmonic components is connected in series with the preceding stage of the transmission coil. Since the parallel resonant circuit becomes a capacitive load in the initial response of the inductive link, a current is supplied from the power source to the load. However, in the steady response of the inductive link, the load of the nonlinear amplifier becomes high impedance at the resonance frequency of the filtering circuit, and the energy flowing into this load is limited. Therefore, the combination of the class F circuit and the LC tank circuit consumes power only at the moment of symbol switching, not at the carrier frequency cycle.
