Description

The present invention relates to a method of manufacturing a terminal fitting used for a wire harness, and the terminal fitting.

A wide variety of electronic devices are mounted on a vehicle as a moving body. In the automobile, a wire harness is routed to transmit electric power, a control signal, and the like to the electronic device. The wire harness includes a plurality of electric wires and a plurality of connectors. The electric wire is a so-called covered electric wire including a conductive core wire and an insulating covering portion that covers the core wire.

The connector includes a pair of insulating connector housings that are fitted together, and conductive terminal fittings that are accommodated in these housings. The terminal fitting includes an electric wire connecting portion that is attached to one end of the electric wire and is electrically connected to the core wire, and an electric contact portion that contacts the other terminal fitting. The wire harness transmits a control signal and the like to the electronic device by connector-connecting the connector housings.

In the manufacturing process of wire harnesses, terminal fittings with different shapes of wire connection portions are used depending on the connection processing method and the type of wire, and as these terminal fittings, for example, the covering portion of the wire is peeled off. One having a crimp connection part for caulking the exposed core wire (hereinafter referred to as a crimp terminal and shown in Patent Document 1), one having a pressure connection part that cuts the sheath of the electric wire and makes contact with the core wire (hereinafter referred to as a pressure contact terminal) And a piercing connection portion that penetrates a flat wire and contacts the core wire (hereinafter referred to as a piercing terminal and shown in Patent Literature 3).

In addition, the connection using a crimp terminal is suitable for the connection of a power supply line etc. in which high connection reliability is required, and the connection using a pressure contact terminal is suitable for automation of the manufacturing process. Moreover, the connection using a piercing terminal has the advantage that it is suitable for the connection of a flat-type electric wire and the wiring space can be reduced.

A method for manufacturing the terminal fittings 1A, 1B, 2A, 2B described above will be described. First, as shown in FIG. 5, the male contact portion 10, the female contact portion 20, the piercing connection portion 30, and the press contact connection portion 40 described above are manufactured separately. These are manufactured by bending a sheet metal obtained by punching a conductive metal sheet with a mold.

Next, one of the male contact portion 10 and the female contact portion 20, one of the piercing connection portion 30 and the pressure contact connection portion 40 is selected according to the application, and the selected electrical contact portions 10 and 20 are connected. The portions 13 and 23 and the connecting portions 33 and 44 of the selected wire connecting portions 30 and 40 are overlapped, and the front caulking pieces 17 and 27 are bent inwardly with respect to the front connecting pieces 34 and 45. At the same time, the rear connection pieces 35 and 46 are caulked by bending the front ends of the rear caulking pieces 18 and 28 inward. In this way, the electrical contact portions 10 and 20 and the wire connection portions 30 and 40 are electrically and mechanically connected to manufacture the terminal fittings 1A, 1B, 2A, and 2B of the present embodiment.

Thus, according to the terminal fittings 1A, 1B, 2A, 2B of this embodiment and the manufacturing method of the terminal fittings 1A, 1B, 2A, 2B, the terminal fittings 1A, 1B, 2A, 2B having different product numbers Since the parts 10, 20, 30, and 40 constituting the terminal fittings 1A, 1B, 2A, and 2B can be made common, it is possible to minimize the tolerance generated in the conventional terminal fittings. At the same time, the production cost of the terminal fittings 1A, 1B, 2A, 2B can be reduced by the mass production effect. Therefore, it is possible to manufacture terminal fittings 1A, 1B, 2A, and 2B that are inexpensive, have no variation, and have stable performance. Moreover, since the electrical contact portions 10 and 20 can be used as crimp terminals, the part number can be reduced.

In addition to the above-described embodiments, in the present invention, the bottom walls 14 and 24 of the electrical contact portions 10 and 20 and the bottom walls 31 and 41 of the wire connection portions 30 and 40 are joined by a method such as ultrasonic bonding or spot welding. Then, the front connection pieces 34 and 45 and the rear connection pieces 35 and 46 can be caulked by the front caulking pieces 17 and 27 and the rear caulking pieces 18 and 28. By doing so, the connection strength between the electrical contact portions 10 and 20 and the wire connection portions 30 and 40 can be further increased.

Moreover, the connection process of the electrical contact parts 10 and 20 and the electric wire connection parts 30 and 40 may be performed after the electric wire connection parts 30 and 40 are connected to the electric wire, and may be performed before being connected to the electric wire. It may be performed simultaneously with the connection with the electric wire. In addition, by performing this connection process after the electric wire connection portions 30 and 40 are connected to the electric wires, the electric contact portions 10 and 20 are damaged or deformed when the electric wires and the electric wire connection portions 30 and 40 are connected in the wire harness manufacturing process. Can be prevented.

Further, the gist of the present invention is to stabilize the performance of the product by sharing parts and to reduce the cost due to the mass production effect, and the electrical contact portions 10 and 20 and the wire connection portions 30 and 40 are not necessarily manufactured. Also good. That is, only one type of the electrical contact portions 10 and 20, for example, only the male contact portion 10 is manufactured, and the male contact portion 10 and any one selected from the wire connection portions 30 and 40 can be connected. Alternatively, only the female contact portion 20 may be manufactured, and the female contact portion 20 may be connected to any one selected from the wire connection portions 30 and 40. Further, only one type of the wire connection portions 30 and 40, for example, only the piercing connection portion 30 may be manufactured, and the piercing connection portion 30 and any one selected from the electrical contact portions 10 and 20 may be coupled. In addition, it is possible to manufacture another wire connection portion having a shape different from that of the wire connection portions 30 and 40 described in the present embodiment, and to connect to any one selected from the electrical contact portions 10 and 20. is there.

In addition, embodiment mentioned above only showed the typical form of this invention, and this invention is not limited to embodiment. That is, various modifications can be made without departing from the scope of the present invention.
