Description
1.応答関数が判明しており、データがノイズなしで測定される事例においても、データのデコンボリューションを可能にする充分な位相情報が存在すること、または
2.既存のアルゴリズムは真の解に収束しないこと。
図1は、本発明による、統計的推定法を用いてコンポネント・アーチファクトを解明する分光計のブロック図である。この分光計はいくつかの異なる物理現象を利用して、サンプルの属性を決定できる。一般にイオン源100のような粒子源は、粒子の流れを伝播路120に提供する。本分光計は、変調器グリッドまたは“チョッパ”102、駆動電子回路104、およびイオン源100を変調するシーケンス・ジェネレータ106を使用する方式の分光計である。また別に、サンプルを照射する前または後のどちらかにイオン源を直接変調し、時間変調された粒子ビームを提供できる。
以下のこのセクションでは厳格にPRBSタイプ変調された飛行時間HREELS電子分光計のための特定の“Lucy”最高尤度法の利用を示唆する特定のシミュレーションを記載しているが、本発明の原理は多くの他のタイプの分光計、変調シーケンスおよび統計的推定法にも適用できることは理解されるべきである。

この式は、ノイズがポアソン統計学に従うことを示し、また目的スペクトルを復元するのに充分な信号対ノイズを得るには、数百万のPRBSサイクルにわたる累積加算が必要であることを示している。シミュレートされたデータは応答関数pを繰り返すことにより生成され、このとき、各タイム・ステップiにおいて、p(i)は0と1との間にある。p(i)が0と1との間のランダム数より大きい場合は、ゲートは“開”状態であり、電子飛行時間t’はf(t’)からランダムに選択された。(分布から任意の1つの飛行時間を選択する確率は小さいために、単一パルスTOFスペクトルに対する各チャネルのカウント数の分散のプロットは各チャネルの平均カウント・レートに等しく、またポアソン・ノイズ分布に従うことが実証された。)
本発明者らはまた、標準相互相関法の結果を最大尤度デコンボリューションと比較した。Skold,K.その他、Instrum.Methods 63(1968)pp.114−116に記載されているような相互相関法は、MatLab(Math Works,Inc.,5thed.,Natick,MA)において実行され、復元されたスペクトルr=(p*p)*oが得られた。目的関数“o”の最大尤度推定は、以前に参照し、記載した公知の反復Lucyアルゴリズムを用いて変調されたデータ(p*o)から得られた。ポアソン・ノイズ分布に対する目的関数oを仮定すると、LucyアルゴリズムはoKにおける推定を用いて次の推定oK+1が生成される反復処理により、データy=o*pを得る確率p(y|o)を最大にする。確率p(y|o)および推定oK+1は以下の式で表わされる。
本発明者らは、工場でチョッパを2つの異なった方法を用いて製作した。第1タイプのチョッパは、セラミックのディスクを円形にレーザ切断し、0.3mmの間隔を隔てて2組の孔を設けた。タンタル・ワイヤ(50μm径)を手で巻きつけて、反対極性のワイヤ間の間隔を0.6mmまたは1.5mmとした。2種の別個のワイヤ・セットは、セラミック・プレートにより互いに絶縁され、各ワイヤの端末には一対の表面取付け抵抗100Ωが並列に接続されている。第2タイプのチョッパ製作にはリトグラフ法が用いられた。金の50Ωのマイクロストリップ・リードを、研磨された方形アルミナ基板上にリフト・オフ法を用いてパターン化した。金のワイヤは、次にジグを用いて位置決めされ、張力を与えて整列させ、さらにパラレル・ギャップ・ウエルダ(UNITEKequipment,UNI Bond(II),Model(50F))を用いて接合された。この方法により25、50および100μmのワイヤ径のものが、それぞれ250、500および1000μmのワイヤ間隔で配置されるように芯出しが行なわれた。すべてが90%伝播率を持つ3つのチョッパ・タイプのセットを設計して、装置のスケール(scale)へ光学特性の依存性をテストした。
1)電子が電界作用領域を横切る時間に付随する“デッド・タイム(不感時間)”は、ビームがonまたはoffとなる時間に誤差を与える。PRBSシーケンスが50%のデューティ・サイクルと異なる場合は、自己相関関数はベース・ラインでの振動および負のアーチファクトを含む。この影響は、例えば分子ビーム散乱に用いられる機械的チョッパディスクの加工誤差および有限厚みによる影響に類似している。これらの負のアーチファクトは(不完全な)PRBSシーケンスの自己相関から評価して、後処理で削除できるが、ディスクの有限厚みによる影響は速度に関連する誤差を招く。
2)荷電粒子と静電ゲートとの相互作用は、電圧を切り換えるときに、粒子のエネルギーに変化を生じさせる。本発明者らが“エネルギー退化”と名付けるエネルギーの変化は、荷電粒子の持つ情報、即ちTOF分光測光において測定される量であるエネルギーまたは速度の情報の劣化をもたらす。退化は、電圧がonまたはoffに切り換えられるときのチョッパの平面に対する電子の位置によって左右されるため、エネルギー退化の統計的分布はチョッパからの距離の関数として、空間領域のポテンシャルから直接求めることができる。
実際の空間におけるこのポテンシャルの等高線は、ライン電荷に近いほぼ円形である。したがってR<<dを持つ有限直径ワイヤ、即ち1に近い伝達に対しては、ライン電荷解法は実際のチョッパ・ポテンシャルに十分近似し、ライン電荷λを限定するためにはポテンシャルが通過する点を選ぶだけで良いことになる。ポテンシャルVappを持つための点(x=0、y=d/2−R)を選ぶ際には次の式を用いる。
ポテンシャル(図13を参照)は、単にVappに比例し、さらに、Ψ〜4λexp(−π|x|/d)として減少する重要な特性を有するので、ポテンシャルは第1d間隔内でeVappの<3%に、また3.6d内では<10−5eVappに減少する。1VオーダーのVappに関しては、x>3.6dに対するポテンシャルはHREELSの単色光ビームの一般的(〜2meV)エネルギー分解能に比べて小さい。

最初に軌道計算に基づくシミュレーションを用いて伝播されるビームの角度分布(図10A)を比較する。電子の位置は、領域(−40mm<x<40mm、−1.8mm<y<1.8mm)内でランダムに選択された。電圧は最初の8nsの間印加され、この時間中に最初の電子が電界の影響を受ける領域に入る。次に電圧は、8nsの間offにされ、再び8nsの間onにされ、最後にoffにされて、(電子が)検出器に達するための、電界のないフライト・チューブ中の最終角度および時間が計算される。図10Bは、Vappの関数として、セラミック・ディスク・デザインの形状に該当する無限チョッパに対して計算された角度分布を示す。結果は、チョッパを均一に満たすために、角度分布の偏向角はVappに比例して増大し、また図10Bの挿入図に示されるように、定量的に実験測定値と一致することを示している。シミュレーションにおける電子はx軸に平行な初期速度を持つが、実験における角度分布は、図10Aの角度分布のピークを広げる結果になる。

(1)9ビット最大長シフトレジスタ(ML)シーケンス(長さ=511ビット)。
(2)8ビット最大長シフトレジスタ・シーケンス(長さ=255ビット)。
但し、シーケンスの各ゼロに3つのゼロを追加して、9ビット・シーケンスと同一長さを持つ25%デューティ・サイクルを生成している。

Claims (31)
- サンプルの粒子を分析する装置であって、
変調シーケンスの反復期間によって決まる最低周波数から変調粒子ビームを生成した変調器の応答時間によって決まる最高周波数までの周波数範囲を包含する広帯域周波数成分を有する変調シーケンスにより変調された粒子の流れを含む変調された粒子ビームのビーム源と、
前記変調された粒子ビームを搬送し、それぞれの粒子特性に従って粒子を分離する伝播路と、
前記変調された粒子ビームの属性を検出し、その属性に応じてデータ出力信号を発生する検出器と、
確率に基づく推定法を用いて、前記データ出力信号から前記変調された粒子ビームに関する情報を復元するプロセッサであって、前記確率に基づく推定法は、変調シーケンスに対する前記装置のコンポネントの応答を表現するシステム応答関数pを仮定して、前記装置のコンポネントによって発生したアーチファクトが低減している修正されたデータ出力信号を得るプロセッサとを、を備えている装置。 - 請求項1において、前記確率に基づく推定法として、最大尤度法を用いる装置。
- 請求項1において、前記確率に基づく推定法として、ベイズ法を用いる装置。
- 請求項1において、前記応答関数pが、変調された粒子の前記ビーム源、前記伝播路および前記粒子検出器からなる一群から選択される、装置の少なくとも1つ以上の前記コンポネントにより構成されるモデルから得られる装置。
- 請求項4において、前記モデルが、前記選択されたコンポネント中のノイズの特性を記述するものである装置。
- 請求項5において、前記ノイズ特性がガウス・ノイズおよびポアソン・ノイズから成るグループから選択される装置。
- 請求項1において、前記情報復元プロセッサがデジタル信号プロセッサで実行されるソフトウエア・プログラムである装置。
- 請求項1において、前記情報復元プロセッサの結果がヒストグラム化されている装置。
- 請求項1において、前記粒子ビームがイオン、電子、中性子、分子および光子から成るグループから選択される粒子である装置。
- 請求項1において、前記粒子が帯電している装置。
- 請求項1において、前記粒子が帯電していない装置。
- 請求項1において、前記変調された粒子ビームは、回転ディスク・チョッパ、偏向プレート、およびグリッド・チョッパからなる一群から選択されるビーム・チョッパにより変調されたほぼ一定の流束を持つ粒子の連続ビームである装置。
- 請求項12において、前記ビーム・チョッパはブラッドバリー−ニールソン(Bradbury−Nielson)ゲートからなる装置。
- 請求項1において、変調器によって、時間、空間、および周波数からなる一群から選択された領域で前記粒子ビームを変調する装置。
- 請求項14において、前記粒子ビーム変調器が、サンプルに対して照射される前の前記粒子ビームを変調する装置。
- 請求項14において、前記粒子ビーム変調器が、サンプルに対して照射された後の前記粒子ビームを変調する装置。
- 請求項1において、前記伝播路が、ドリフト・チューブ、リフレクトロン、および光学分散エレメントを持つアダマール・マスクからなる一群から選択されている装置。
- 請求項1において、前記伝播路が特性の異なる粒子を分離し、前記特性が質量またはエネルギーである装置。
- 請求項1において、前記検出器が変調周波数に対して充分な時間分解能を持ち、チョッパ応答をオーバー・サンプリングする装置。
- 請求項1において、前記検出器が、所定の時間ビン内のデータ出力信号を生成する装置。
- 請求項14において、前記ビーム変調器が、デューティ・サイクルが50%以外のバイナリ・シーケンスにより前記データ出力信号を変調する装置。
- 請求項1において、測定データを用いてシステム応答関数を得るように、統計的推定手法が前記確率に基づく推定法として用いられる、装置。
- 請求項22において、前記装置は飛行時間型質量分析計であり、この飛行時間型質量分析計の変調器の応答関数を得るように、前記統計的推定手法が前記確率に基づく推定法として用いられる、装置。
- 請求項22において、前記装置は飛行時間型電子分析計であり、この飛行時間型電子分析計の変調器の応答関数を得るように、前記統計的推定手法が前記確率に基づく推定法として用いられる、装置。
- 請求項24において、前記応答関数を得るために、前記統計的推定手法がモノクロメータを用いる、装置。
- 請求項22において、理論シミュレーションを用いて前記応答関数を得ている装置。
- 請求項23において、質量選択されたイオン源を用いている装置。
- 請求項23において、理論シミュレーションが前記応答関数に用いられる装置。
- 請求項22において、前記変調シーケンスが、単一パルスと疑似ランダム・ビット・シーケンスの少なくともいずれか一つを含む装置。
- 請求項1において、反復処理に対する初期推定を得るように、統計的推定手法が前記確率に基づく推定法として用いられる装置。
- 粒子を分析する装置であって、
一定の流束を有する粒子の連続ビームを供給する粒子ビーム源と、
onの間は粒子ビームを実質的に変調することなく通過させ、offの間は変調シーケンスの反復期間によって決まる最低周波数から変調器の応答時間によって決まる最高周波数までの周波数範囲を包含する広帯域周波数成分を有するバイナリ・シーケンスに従って影響を与えることにより粒子ビームを変調する変調器と、
前記変調された粒子ビームを搬送し、それぞれの粒子特性に従って粒子を分離する伝播路と、
前記粒子ビームの属性を検出し、その属性に応じて測定データ出力信号を発生する検出器と、
確率に基づく推定法を用いて、前記測定データ出力信号から、前記装置のコンポネントによって発生したアーチファクトが低減している前記粒子ビームに関する情報を復元するプロセッサであって、前記確率に基づく推定法が、
1.前記アーチファクトを低減することによって前記コンポネントの非理想的特性を補償し、
2.前記変調器が存在しない場合に比べて高分解能を得ることを可能にし、この高分解能は、信号/ノイズ比、サンプリング・レート、シーケンス長さ、シーケンスの周波数成分、システム応答関数の帯域幅および基礎飛行時間スペクトルに依存しているプロセッサとを備えた、装置。
