包装袋用の包材には、通常、強度をもたせるため延伸により配向が与えられた配向性樹脂フィルムが用いられている。しかし、このような配向性樹脂フィルムを積層した包材を使用した包装袋は、強度が高い反面、手で引き裂いて容易に開封することは困難であった。

しかしながら、従来の機械加工による包材の易開封加工処理技術においては、包材に易開封加工をする刃物や砥石等の工具の摩耗が避けられない。そして、これら工具が摩耗してくると、包材に十分な易開封性を付与することができなくなる。その上、工具の摩耗の程度は判定が困難なため、摩耗による易開封加工の不良品が大量に発生してしまうおそれがある。
また、機械加工の場合、包材の細かい切粉が発生するため、この切粉の除去が不十分であると、包材を用いて製袋した際に、工具の加工による切粉が包装袋の内部に混入するおそれがある。

この目的の達成を図るため、本発明の請求項1に係る包材の易開封加工方法によれば、表層に配向性樹脂フィルムを含む多層フィルムの包材を、この配向性樹脂フィルムの融点以下の表面温度に温度調節された温調ロールにより、この配向性樹脂フィルムを外側にして支持搬送しながら、当該温調ロール上で、この包材の一部分を配向性樹脂フィルムの融点以上の温度に加熱する加熱処理と、加熱処理を行った直後に、包材を冷却手段により、融点以下の温度に冷却しながら押圧する冷却処理とを含む方法としてある。
