【0052】
直径d(以下の説明においては、特に断らない限りノズル孔の内径を指す)のノズルに導電性インクを注入し、無限平板導体からhの高さに垂直に位置させたと仮定する。
(P.J. Birdseye and D.A. Smith, Surface Science, 23(1970), p.198-210)。

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to an electrostatic suction type fluid discharge method and apparatus for charging a fluid such as ink and discharging the fluid from a nozzle onto an object such as a substrate.
[0002]
[Prior art]
In general, there are methods such as piezo and thermal that have been put to practical use as ink jet printers in the fluid jet method that ejects fluid such as ink onto an object (recording medium). There is an electrostatic suction method in which an electric field is applied to a conductive fluid and discharged from a nozzle.
[0003]
Such an electrostatic suction type fluid discharge device (hereinafter referred to as an electrostatic suction type fluid discharge device) is disclosed in, for example,

Here, a fluid ejection model in a conventional electrostatic suction type fluid ejection device will be described.
[0007]
As a design factor of the electrostatic suction type fluid discharge device, particularly the on-demand type electrostatic suction type fluid discharge device, the conductivity of the ink liquid (for example, the specific resistance of 10 6 -10 11 Ωcm), surface tension (for example, 0.020 to 0.040 N / m), viscosity (for example, 0.011 to 0.015 Pa · s), and applied voltage (electric field). As the applied voltage, the voltage applied to the nozzle and the distance between the nozzle and the counter electrode are particularly important.
[0008]
The electrostatic suction type fluid ejection device utilizes electrohydrodynamic instability, and this state is shown in FIG. When a conductive fluid is placed in a uniform electric field, the electrostatic force acting on the surface of the conductive fluid destabilizes the surface and promotes the growth of the string (electrostatic string phenomenon). The electric field at this time is an electric field E generated when a voltage V is applied between the

[Problems to be solved by the invention]
In the fluid ejecting apparatus, there is a demand for reducing the diameter of the nozzle that ejects ink in order to generally allow finer dot formation and line formation.
[0024]
However, in a fluid ejection device such as a piezo method or a thermal method that is currently in practical use, it is difficult to eject a minute amount of fluid with a nozzle diameter smaller than, for example, 1 pl. This is because the pressure required for ejection increases as the nozzle for ejecting fluid becomes finer.
[0025]
Further, in the fluid ejection device as described above, the miniaturization of the droplets and the increase in accuracy are contradictory problems, and it has been difficult to realize both at the same time. This is due to the following reason.
[0026]
The kinetic energy imparted to the droplet discharged from the nozzle is proportional to the cube of the droplet radius. For this reason, the fine droplets that are ejected when the nozzle is miniaturized cannot secure sufficient kinetic energy to withstand the air resistance at the time of ejection, and cannot be expected to land accurately due to disturbance due to air retention. . Furthermore, as the droplet becomes finer, the effect of surface tension increases, so the vapor pressure of the droplet increases and the amount of evaporation increases. For this reason, the fine droplets cause a significant loss of mass during flight, and there is a problem that it is difficult to maintain the shape of the droplets upon landing.
[0027]
Furthermore, based on the fluid ejection model in the above-described conventional electrostatic suction type fluid ejection device, from the above equation (2), the decrease in the nozzle diameter requires an increase in the electric field strength necessary for ejection. And the electric field strength is the voltage (drive voltage) V applied to the nozzle as shown in the above equation (3). 0 And the nozzle-counter electrode distance h, a decrease in the nozzle diameter leads to an increase in drive voltage.
[0028]
Here, since the driving voltage in the conventional electrostatic suction type fluid ejection device is as high as 1000 V or more, it is difficult to reduce the size and increase the density in consideration of leakage and interference between the nozzles. If the size is reduced, the above problem becomes larger. In addition, a high-voltage power semiconductor exceeding 1000 V is generally expensive and has low frequency response.
[0029]
The nozzle diameter disclosed in
[0030]
When the nozzle diameter is calculated by applying typical operating conditions in the conventional electrostatic attraction type fluid discharge, the surface tension is 0.020 N / m, and the electric field strength is 10. 7 Substituting into the above equation (1) and calculating as V / m, the growth wavelength λ c Is about 140 μm. That is, a value of 70 μm is obtained as the limit nozzle diameter. That is, 10 7 Even when a strong electric field of V / m is used, if the nozzle diameter is about 70 μm or less, ink growth does not occur and electrostatic attraction does not occur unless measures such as applying a back pressure to forcibly form a meniscus are taken. It was thought that mold fluid discharge was not established. That is, it has been considered that miniaturized nozzles and driving voltage reduction are incompatible problems.
[0031]
As described above, in the conventional fluid ejection device, miniaturization and high accuracy of the nozzles are contradictory problems, and it is difficult to realize both at the same time. In particular, in the electrostatic suction type fluid discharge device, it has been considered that miniaturization of the nozzle and lowering of the driving voltage are incompatible.
[0032]
The present invention has been made to solve the above-mentioned problems, and its purpose is to realize miniaturization of the nozzle, high precision of the discharge and landing positions of the micro fluid, and further reduction of the driving voltage. Another object of the present invention is to provide an electrostatic suction type fluid discharge device.
[0033]
[Means for Solving the Problems]
In order to solve the above-mentioned problems, the electrostatic suction type fluid discharge device of the present invention applies a drive voltage from a drive voltage applying means between a nozzle and a discharge destination member, for example, an insulating substrate, and puts it in the nozzle. In the electrostatic suction type fluid ejection device for supplying electric charge to the supplied fluid and ejecting the fluid from the nozzle hole to the ejection destination member, the nozzle hole diameter is φ0.01 μm to φ25 μm, and the drive voltage applying means Is a bipolar pulse voltage that is reversed to positive and negative polarities as the drive voltage, and outputs a voltage having a frequency of 1 Hz or more.
[0034]
Further, the electrostatic suction type fluid discharge method of the present invention applies a drive voltage between a nozzle and a discharge destination member, for example, an insulating substrate, and supplies electric charge to the fluid supplied into the nozzle. In the electrostatic suction type fluid discharge method in which the nozzle is discharged from the nozzle hole to the discharge destination member, the hole diameter of the nozzle is φ0.01 μm to φ25 μm, and the drive voltage is a bipolar pulse voltage that is reversed to both positive and negative polarities. The frequency is a voltage of 1 Hz or more.
[0035]
Conventionally, in an electrostatic suction type fluid discharge device, the reduction of the nozzle hole diameter leads to an increase in the electric field strength required for discharge, so it is considered that miniaturization of the nozzle hole diameter and lowering of the drive voltage cannot be compatible. It was. On the other hand, in the present invention, when the nozzle hole diameter is set to a fine diameter of φ0.01 μm to φ25 μm, a local electric field is generated, and the nozzle hole diameter is set to the above based on the new knowledge that the driving voltage in ejection can be reduced. By making it within the range, both the miniaturization of the nozzle hole diameter and the lowering of the driving voltage are realized.
[0036]
In the above configuration, the drive voltage applied to the nozzle is a bipolar pulse voltage that is reversed to both positive and negative polarities, and the frequency is a voltage of 1 Hz or higher. In this case, it is possible to suppress the expansion of the droplet scattering area and the increase of the driving voltage. As a result, a fine pattern can be clearly formed on the discharge destination member by driving the nozzle at a low voltage.
[0037]
The electrostatic suction type fluid discharge device of the present invention applies a drive voltage from a drive voltage applying means between a nozzle and a discharge destination member, for example, an insulating substrate, and supplies a charge to the fluid supplied into the nozzle. In the electrostatic suction type fluid discharge device for discharging the fluid from the nozzle hole to the discharge destination member, the nozzle has a hole diameter of φ0.01 μm to φ25 μm, and the drive voltage application means uses the positive and negative electrodes as the drive voltage. The relationship between the time constant τ determined by τ = ε / σ and the driving voltage frequency fHz with respect to the electric conductivity σS / m and relative dielectric constant ε of the fluid. Outputs a voltage satisfying f ≦ 1 / (2τ).
[0038]
Further, the electrostatic suction type fluid discharge method of the present invention applies a drive voltage between a nozzle and a discharge destination member, for example, an insulating substrate, and supplies electric charge to the fluid supplied into the nozzle. In the electrostatic suction type fluid discharge method in which the nozzle is discharged from the nozzle hole to the discharge destination member, the hole diameter of the nozzle is φ0.01 μm to φ25 μm, and the drive voltage is a bipolar pulse voltage that is reversed to positive and negative polarity The relationship between the time constant τ determined by τ = ε / σ and the driving voltage frequency fHz is f ≦ 1 / (2τ) with respect to the electric conductivity σS / m and the relative dielectric constant ε of the fluid. It is characterized by voltage.
[0039]
[0040]
In the above configuration, the driving voltage applied to the nozzle is a bipolar pulse voltage that is reversed to both positive and negative polarities, and τ = ε / σ with respect to the electrical conductivity σS / m and relative dielectric constant ε of the fluid. Is output so that the relationship between the time constant τ determined by the equation (1) and the drive voltage frequency fHz is f ≦ 1 / (2τ). It is possible to narrow the droplet scattering region and form a clear fine pattern on the discharge destination member.
[0041]
The electrostatic suction type fluid discharge device of the present invention applies a drive voltage from a drive voltage applying means between a nozzle and a discharge destination member, for example, an insulating substrate, and supplies a charge to the fluid supplied into the nozzle. In the electrostatic suction type fluid ejection device, the fluid is ejected from the nozzle hole to the ejection destination member, and the nozzle and the ejection destination member are relatively moved by a moving unit in a direction orthogonal to the opposing direction of both. The nozzle has a hole diameter of .phi.0.01 .mu.m to .phi.25 .mu.m, and the drive voltage applying means outputs a bipolar pulse voltage having a frequency of fHz that is inverted to both positive and negative as the drive voltage. The drive voltage output means and the moving means are reduced so that the relationship between the drive voltage frequency fHz of the voltage applying means and the relative speed v μm / sec in the relative movement is f ≧ 5 v. It is characterized by further comprising control means for controlling at least one of them.
[0042]
Further, the electrostatic suction type fluid discharge method of the present invention applies a drive voltage between a nozzle and a discharge destination member, for example, an insulating substrate, and supplies electric charge to the fluid supplied into the nozzle. Is discharged from the nozzle hole to the discharge destination member, and the nozzle and the discharge destination member are relatively moved in a direction orthogonal to the opposing direction of the nozzle and the discharge destination member. The drive voltage is reversed to positive and negative polarities, and a bipolar pulse voltage with a frequency of fHz is output as the drive voltage. The relationship between the drive voltage frequency fHz and the relative speed v μm / sec in the relative movement is , At least one of the drive voltage frequency and the relative movement speed is controlled so that f ≧ 5v.
[0043]
[0044]
In addition, the drive voltage applied to the nozzle is reversed to both positive and negative polarities, a bipolar pulse voltage having a frequency of fHz is output, the relative speed v μm / sec in the relative movement between the nozzle and the discharge destination member, and the drive voltage frequency fHz. Since at least one of the drive voltage frequency and the relative movement speed is controlled so that f ≧ 5v, the scattering of droplets on the discharge destination member is suppressed and a clear fine pattern is formed. Is possible.
[0045]
The electrostatic suction type fluid discharge device of the present invention applies a drive voltage from a drive voltage applying means between a nozzle and a discharge destination member, for example, an insulating substrate, and supplies a charge to the fluid supplied into the nozzle. In the electrostatic suction type fluid ejection device, the fluid is ejected from the nozzle hole to the ejection destination member, and the nozzle and the ejection destination member are relatively moved by a moving unit in a direction orthogonal to the opposing direction of both. The nozzle has a hole diameter of .phi.0.01 .mu.m to .phi.25 .mu.m, and the drive voltage application means is a bipolar pulse voltage that reverses to positive and negative polarity as the drive voltage, and outputs a voltage of 400 V or less. .
[0046]
In the electrostatic suction type fluid discharge method of the present invention, a driving voltage is applied between the nozzle, the discharge destination member, and the insulating substrate to supply electric charge to the fluid supplied into the nozzle. In the electrostatic suction type fluid discharge method of discharging from the nozzle hole to the discharge destination member, the hole diameter of the nozzle is φ0.01 μm to φ25 μm, and the drive voltage is a bipolar pulse voltage that is reversed to positive and negative polarities, The voltage is 400V or less.
[0047]
[0048]
In addition, since the drive voltage applied to the nozzle is a bipolar pulse voltage that is reversed to both positive and negative polarities, and is a voltage of 400 V or less, when forming a dot by discharging a fluid onto the discharge destination member, the peripheral portion of the dot It is possible to suppress the scattering of liquid droplets on the surface and to form a clear fine pattern.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
[Prerequisite technology]
First, the prerequisite technology of the present invention will be described below with reference to the drawings.
The electrostatic suction type fluid discharge device according to the premise technique of the present invention has a nozzle diameter of 0.01 μm to 25 μm, and enables discharge control of discharge fluid with a drive voltage of 1000 V or less.
[0050]
Here, in the conventional ink ejection model, a decrease in the nozzle diameter leads to an increase in the driving voltage. Therefore, at nozzle diameters of 50 to 70 μm or less, unless other measures such as applying a back pressure to the ejected ink are performed, It was considered impossible to eject ink at a driving voltage of 1000 V or less. However, as a result of intensive studies, the inventors of the present application have found that a discharge phenomenon occurs in a discharge model different from the conventional ink discharge model below a certain nozzle diameter. This base technology is based on new knowledge in this ink ejection model.
[0051]
First, an ink ejection model investigated in the base technology of the present application will be described.
[0052]
It is assumed that conductive ink is injected into a nozzle having a diameter d (in the following description, indicates the inner diameter of the nozzle hole unless otherwise specified), and is positioned perpendicular to the height of h from the infinite plate conductor. This is shown in FIG. At this time, it is assumed that the charge Q induced in the nozzle tip (nozzle hole: fluid discharge hole) is concentrated in the hemisphere formed by the discharge fluid at the nozzle tip, and is approximately expressed by the following equation.
[0053]
[Equation 5]
[0054]
Where Q: charge (C) induced at the nozzle tip, ε 0 : Dielectric constant (F / m) of vacuum, d: Nozzle diameter (diameter) (m), V 0 : Total voltage applied to the nozzle. Α is a proportionality constant depending on the nozzle shape and the like, and takes a value of about 1 to 1.5, particularly d << h (h: distance between nozzle (nozzle hole) and substrate (m)). The time is almost 1.
[0055]
Further, when a conductive substrate is used as the substrate, it is considered that a mirror image charge Q ′ having a polarity opposite to that of the charge Q is induced at a symmetrical position in the substrate facing the nozzle. When the substrate is an insulator, a video charge Q ′ having a polarity opposite to that of the charge Q is similarly induced at a symmetrical position determined by the dielectric constant.
[0056]
Concentrated electric field strength E at the nozzle tip loc Assuming that the radius of curvature of the tip is R,
[0057]

Given in. Here, k is a proportionality constant depending on the nozzle shape and the like, and takes a value of about 1.5 to 8.5, and is considered to be about 5 in many cases (PJ Birdseye and DA Smith, Surface Science, 23 (1970), p.198-210). Here, in order to simplify the ink ejection model, it is assumed that R = d / 2. This corresponds to a state where the conductive ink swells in a hemispherical shape having the same curvature diameter as the nozzle diameter d due to surface tension at the nozzle tip.
[0059]
Next, the balance of pressure acting on the discharge fluid at the nozzle tip is considered. First, the electrostatic pressure P e If the liquid area at the nozzle tip is S,

When the voltage applied to the nozzle is 700 V, the electrostatic pressure P is obtained when the nozzle diameter d is 25 μm. e Pressure P due to surface tension s It is suggested to exceed. [0074]
Than,
[0075]

[0077]
FIG. 20 shows the dependency of the discharge pressure ΔP when the discharge condition is satisfied by the local electric field strength for a nozzle of a certain diameter d, and FIG. 21 shows the dependency of the discharge critical voltage (that is, the lowest voltage at which discharge occurs) Vc. Show.
[0078]
FIG. 20 shows that the discharge condition is satisfied by the local electric field strength (V 0 = 700 V, assuming that γ = 72 mN / m), the upper limit of the nozzle diameter is 25 μm.
[0079]
In the calculation of FIG. 21, water (γ = 72 mN / m) and an organic solvent (γ = 20 mN / m) are assumed as the discharge fluid, and the condition of k = 5 is assumed. From this figure, it is clear that the discharge critical voltage Vc decreases as the nozzle diameter decreases in consideration of the electric field concentration effect due to the fine nozzle. When the discharge fluid is water and the nozzle diameter is 25 μm, the discharge critical voltage It can be seen that the voltage Vc is about 700V.
[0080]
The concept of the electric field in the conventional discharge model, that is, the voltage V applied to the nozzle 0 When only the electric field defined by the nozzle-counter electrode distance h is considered, the drive voltage required for ejection increases as the nozzle diameter becomes smaller.
[0081]
On the other hand, if attention is paid to the local electric field strength as in the new discharge model proposed in the base technology, the drive voltage in the discharge can be reduced by making the nozzle finer. Such a decrease in driving voltage is extremely advantageous in downsizing the apparatus and increasing the density of the nozzles. Of course, by reducing the driving voltage, it is possible to use a low-voltage driving driver with high cost merit.
[0082]
Further, in the above discharge model, the electric field strength necessary for the discharge depends on the local concentrated electric field strength, so that the presence of the counter electrode is not essential. That is, in the conventional discharge model, since an electric field is applied between the nozzle and the substrate, it is necessary to dispose a counter electrode on the side opposite to the nozzle with respect to the insulating substrate, or to make the substrate conductive. . When the counter electrode is arranged, that is, when the substrate is an insulator, there is a limit to the thickness of the substrate that can be used.
[0083]
On the other hand, in the discharge model of the base technology, it is possible to perform printing on an insulating substrate or the like without requiring a counter electrode, and the degree of freedom of the apparatus configuration is increased. Further, it is possible to perform printing on a thick insulator. Since the liquid discharged from the nozzle is charged, a mirror image force acts between the liquid and the substrate. FIG. 22 shows the correlation between the magnitude of the mirror image force and the distance h of the nozzle from the substrate.
[0084]
Next, consider the precise control of the discharge flow rate. In the case of a viscous flow, the flow rate Q in the cylindrical channel is represented by the following Hagen-Poiseuille equation. Now, assuming a cylindrical nozzle, the flow rate Q of the fluid flowing through this nozzle is expressed by the following equation.
[0085]
[Expression 14]
[0086]
Where η is the viscosity coefficient (Pa · s) of the fluid, L is the length of the flow path, that is, the nozzle (m), d is the diameter of the flow path, that is, the nozzle (m), and ΔP is the pressure difference (Pa). . From the above equation, since the flow rate Q is proportional to the fourth power of the radius of the flow path, it is effective to employ a fine nozzle to limit the flow rate. By substituting the discharge pressure ΔP obtained by the equation (13) into the equation (14), the following equation is obtained.
[0087]
[Expression 15]
[0088]
This expression represents the outflow amount of the fluid flowing out from the nozzle when the voltage V is applied to the nozzle having the diameter d and the length L. This is shown in FIG. For the calculation, values of L = 10 mm, η = 1 (mPa · s), and γ = 72 (mN / m) were used. Now, the nozzle diameter is assumed to be 50 μm, which is the minimum value of the prior art. When the voltage V is gradually applied, ejection starts at the voltage V = 1000V. This voltage corresponds to the discharge start voltage described in FIG. The flow rate from the nozzle at that time is shown on the Y axis. The flow rate rises rapidly just above the discharge start voltage Vc. In this model calculation, it seems that a minute flow rate is likely to be obtained by precisely controlling the voltage slightly above Vc, but this is actually impossible as expected from the semi-logarithmic diagram. 10 -Ten m Three / S or less, it is difficult to realize a minute amount. Further, when a nozzle having a certain diameter is employed, the minimum drive voltage is determined as given by the equation (11). Therefore, as long as a nozzle having a diameter of 50 μm or more is used as in the prior art, 10 -Ten m Three It is difficult to achieve a minute discharge amount of / s or less or a drive voltage of 1000 V or less.
[0089]
As can be seen from the figure, a drive voltage of 700 V or less is sufficient for a nozzle with a diameter of 25 μm, and control is possible even with a nozzle of 10 μm in diameter of 500 V or less. In addition, it can be seen that a nozzle having a diameter of 1 μm may be 300 V or less.
[0090]
Although the above consideration is a case where continuous flow is considered, in order to form dots, there is a need for switching. Next, I will talk about it.
[0091]
Discharging by electrostatic suction is based on charging of fluid at the nozzle end. The charging speed is considered to be about a time constant determined by dielectric relaxation.
[0092]
[Expression 16]
[0093]
Here, ε is the relative dielectric constant of the fluid, and σ is the conductivity of the fluid (S / m). The relative permittivity of the fluid is 10 and the conductivity is 10 -6 Assuming S / m, τ = 1.854 × 10 -Five sec. Alternatively, if the critical frequency is fc,
[0094]
[Expression 17]
[0095]
It becomes. It is considered that ejection cannot be performed because it cannot respond to a change in the electric field having a frequency faster than fc. When the above example is estimated, the frequency is about 10 kHz.
[0096]
Next, the reduction of the surface tension in the nozzle will be considered. It has been found that when an insulator is disposed on an electrode and a voltage is applied between the liquid dropped on the electrode and the electrode, the contact area between the liquid and the insulator increases, that is, wettability is improved, and electrowetting is improved. ) It is called a phenomenon. This effect is also realized in a cylindrical capillary shape, and is sometimes referred to as an electrocapillary. There is the following relationship between the pressure due to the electrowetting effect and the applied voltage, the shape of the capillary, and the physical properties of the solution.
[0097]
[Formula 18]
[0098]
Where ε 0 : Vacuum dielectric constant, ε r : Dielectric constant of insulator, t: thickness of insulator, d: inner diameter of capillary. When this value is calculated considering water as a fluid, it is only 30000 Pa (0.3 atm) at the most when calculating the case of the above-mentioned embodiment of
[0099]
In the above discussion, it should be noted that these approximate theories are based on the voltage V applied to the nozzle as the electric field strength as in the past. 0 And not based on the electric field determined by the distance h between the nozzle and the counter electrode, but based on the local concentrated electric field strength at the nozzle tip. What is important in the base technology is that the local strong electric field and the flow path for supplying the fluid have a very small conductance. The fluid itself is sufficiently charged in a small area. When the charged microfluid is brought close to a dielectric such as a substrate or a conductor, the mirror image force acts and flies at a right angle to the substrate. For this reason, in the embodiment, the nozzle uses a glass capillary for ease of production, but is not limited thereto.
[0100]
[Embodiment 1]
In the following embodiments, the results of investigating the nozzle driving conditions in the case of discharging an ultrafine liquid from an ultrafine nozzle by electrostatic force will be described.
[0101]
In the electrostatic suction type fluid ejection device, as explained in the above-mentioned premise technique, the nozzle hole diameter (nozzle diameter) is set in the range of 0.01 to 25 μm, thereby reducing the nozzle hole diameter and driving voltage. It is possible to achieve both low voltage and low voltage.
[0102]
Further, the discharge amount of the liquid serving as the discharge material from the nozzle can be controlled by the potential difference between the nozzle and the discharge destination member and the distance between the nozzle and the discharge destination member, that is, the gap. Basically, the greater the potential difference and the smaller the gap, the greater the electric field strength at the nozzle tip, making it easier to control the discharge amount.
[0103]
However, the electrostatic suction type fluid discharge method as described above has the following problems. That is, when a liquid is discharged to an insulating discharge destination member, a positive or negative unipolar bias such as a DC bias or a unipolar pulse voltage is applied to the nozzle as a drive voltage. The discharge destination member is charged up by the electric charge, and the surface potential thereof rises. Due to the increase in surface potential, the potential difference between the nozzle (driving electrode inside the nozzle) serving as the ejection driving force and the ejection destination member becomes unstable, resulting in ejection failure.
[0104]
As a result, in order to perform stable ejection using a one-sided bias, it is necessary to apply a higher bias to the nozzle drive electrode in order to ensure the above-described potential difference, making it difficult to drive the nozzle at a low voltage. . Actually, as shown in FIG. 14, the lowest discharge voltage due to DC bias is 1010 Ω / sq as the discharge destination member when polyimide having a surface resistance value of 1015 Ω / sq is used as the discharge destination member. Therefore, the former is inferior in terms of ejection characteristics.
[0105]
Therefore, in order to suppress such an increase in the minimum discharge voltage, it is preferable to use a bipolar pulse voltage as the nozzle drive voltage. In this case, as shown in FIG. 15, it can be seen that the lowest discharge voltage is reduced as compared with the case where the DC bias is used. This is because the charged charges of the landing droplets on the discharge destination member alternate between positive and negative, and charges of opposite polarity are sequentially dropped onto the discharge destination member, so that discharge is performed while suppressing charge-up on the discharge destination member. Depending on what Thus, the use of the bipolar pulse voltage as the nozzle drive voltage is effective in improving the ejection stability from the nozzle.
[0106]
However, even when a bipolar pulse voltage is used as the nozzle drive voltage, as shown in FIG. 16, when a drawing pattern is formed on the ejection destination member, minute droplets are scattered around the drawing pattern. Occurs, and the drawing pattern is disturbed. This is due to the following reason.
[0107]
For example, as shown in FIG. 17A, when a pulse voltage having a low frequency is used as the nozzle drive voltage and discharge from the nozzle is performed with a positive pulse of this pulse voltage, A liquid having a positive charge is continuously discharged onto a certain insulating
[0108]
The scattering of fine droplets as described above adversely affects the electrical characteristics of the substrate when, for example, a wiring pattern is drawn on the insulating
[0109]
Therefore, in the electrostatic suction type fluid ejection device of the present invention, in a configuration in which a bipolar pulse voltage is used as the nozzle drive voltage, the scattering of the ejection material on the ejection destination member is suppressed and the drawn image is disturbed. It is possible to form a clear fine pattern with a small amount.
[0110]
Hereinafter, the electrostatic suction type fluid discharge device of the present embodiment will be described in detail.

[0115]
(1) Since the core side glass is easily wetted with ink, ink filling becomes easy. (2) Since the core-side glass is hydrophilic and the outer glass is hydrophobic, the area where ink is present is limited to the inner diameter of the core-side glass at the nozzle end, and the electric field concentration effect becomes more prominent. . (3) A fine nozzle can be realized. (4) A sufficient mechanical strength can be obtained.
[0116]
The lower limit of the nozzle diameter is preferably 0.01 μm from the viewpoint of production. The upper limit of the nozzle diameter is 25 μm when the electrostatic force shown in FIG. 8 exceeds the surface tension. And the upper limit of the nozzle diameter when the discharge condition is satisfied by the local electric field strength shown in FIG. 20 is 25 μm, preferably 15 μm, and more preferably 15 μm. In particular, in order to more effectively use the local electric field concentration effect, the nozzle diameter is preferably in the range of 0.01 to 8 μm. In the present embodiment, the nozzle diameter is set in the range of φ0.1 to φ20 μm.

[0166]
Further, in the above embodiment, the width of the droplet scattering area is not strictly affected by the width of the line to be drawn, and the droplet spreading unnecessarily spreads on both sides including the drawing pattern area. It can be regarded as the width of the entire area.
[0167]
【The invention's effect】
In the configuration of the present invention, since the nozzle hole diameter is set to φ0.01 μm to φ25 μm, both the reduction of the nozzle hole diameter and the reduction of the drive voltage are realized.
[0168]
Further, in the configuration of the present invention, the drive voltage applied to the nozzle is a bipolar pulse voltage that is reversed to both positive and negative polarities, and the frequency is a voltage of 1 Hz or more. It is possible to suppress the expansion of the droplet scattering area on the member and the drive voltage. As a result, a fine pattern can be clearly formed on the discharge destination member by driving the nozzle at a low voltage.
[0169]
Further, in the configuration of the present invention, the drive voltage applied to the nozzle is a bipolar pulse voltage that is reversed to both positive and negative polarities, and τ = ε / with respect to the electrical conductivity σS / m and relative dielectric constant ε of the fluid. Since a voltage is output so that the relationship between the time constant τ determined by σ and the drive voltage frequency fHz is f ≦ 1 / (2τ), an increase in the minimum discharge voltage from the nozzle is suppressed, and the discharge destination member In this way, the droplet scattering region in the nozzle can be narrowed, and a clear fine pattern can be formed on the discharge destination member.
[0170]
Further, in the configuration of the present invention, the driving voltage applied to the nozzle is inverted to both positive and negative polarities, a bipolar pulse voltage having a frequency of fHz is output, and the relative speed v μm / in relative movement between the nozzle and the discharge destination member is output. Since at least one of the drive voltage frequency and the relative movement speed is controlled so that the relationship between sec and the drive voltage frequency fHz is f ≧ 5 v, the scattering of the droplets on the discharge destination member is suppressed, and the clear A fine pattern can be formed.
[0171]
Further, in the configuration of the present invention, the drive voltage applied to the nozzle is a bipolar pulse voltage that is reversed to both positive and negative polarities, and is a voltage of 400 V or less, so that a fluid is ejected onto the ejection destination member to form dots. In this case, it is possible to suppress the scattering of droplets around the dot periphery and form a clear fine pattern.
