【発明の属する技術分野】
本発明は、ネットワークを介するXMLデータの出力に関するものである。
【0002】
【従来の技術】
ネットワーク(たとえばLAN)を介して複数の装置が接続されているシステムにおいて、1つの装置が、当該装置についての情報をHTMLデータとして記憶していると、そのHTMLデータを他の装置から表示(閲覧、印刷など)ができる。HTML(HyperText Markup Language)は、ウェブページを書くために生まれた言語である。
XML(eXtensible Markup Language)は、拡張機能つきのマークアップ言語である。XML自体はレイアウトを規定しないので、XMLで記述されたデータ(以下XMLデータという)の表示(閲覧、印刷など)は、スタイルシート言語(たとえばXSL(eXtensible Stylesheet Language)やCSS(Cascading Style Sheet))で記述したスタイルシートを用いて行う。スタイルシートでは、表示/印刷領域、フォント名、文字サイズなどが指定される。また、XSLデータの変換処理を行う部分の言語には、XSLT(XSL Transformations)などが用いられる。

【0005】

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to outputting XML data via a network.
[0002]
[Prior art]
In a system in which a plurality of devices are connected via a network (for example, a LAN), when one device stores information about the device as HTML data, the HTML data is displayed (viewed) from another device. , Printing, etc.). HTML (HyperText Markup Language) is a language born to write web pages. For example, even in a system in which a device such as an image forming apparatus is used via a network, if the device stores the information (for example, device management information) as HTML data, another device (for example, a personal computer terminal) ) Can be obtained and displayed by a web browser. For example, communication of error information such as a multi-function device (MFP) using data in HTML format is described in Japanese Patent Laid-Open No. 2001-186301.
[0003]
Browsing HTML data via a network has problems such as network load due to transmission in units of pages, and inability to reuse data. Therefore, it is conceivable to adopt XML and create data in XML. XML (eXtensible Markup Language) is a markup language with an extended function. Since XML itself does not define a layout, the display (viewing, printing, etc.) of data described in XML (hereinafter referred to as XML data) is performed using a style sheet language (for example, XSL (eXtensible Stylesheet Language) or CSS (Cascading Style Sheet)). Use the style sheet described in. In the style sheet, a display / print area, a font name, a character size, and the like are specified. Moreover, XSLT (XSL Transformations) etc. are used for the language of the part which performs the conversion process of XSL data.

[Patent Document 1]
Japanese Patent Laid-Open No. 2001-186301
[Problems to be solved by the invention]
A client terminal connected to the network is provided with an application (such as a web browser) for displaying (browsing, printing, etc.) via the network. If this application supports XML, the XML data can be displayed based on the XML data and the style sheet. However, at present, applications do not necessarily support XML. However, it is desirable to enable display of XML data at the client terminal regardless of whether the client terminal application supports XML.
[0006]
An object of the present invention is to display XML data regardless of whether or not an application for display supports XML when displaying XML data stored in a device connected via a network. Is to make it possible.
[0007]
[Means for Solving the Problems]
The device according to the present invention is a device connected to a client terminal and a server apparatus via a network. This device comprises storage means for holding XML data describing data relating to the device itself and a style sheet for displaying the data. When the application of the client terminal requests XML data, the determination unit determines whether or not the application has an XML analysis unit . Data transmission means, when the front Kia application of the client terminal is the determination means does not have an XML analyzing means determines, sends the XML data to the server device, before Symbol X ML data from the server device to send incorporating information to get the instruction before Kia application. This makes it possible to display XML data even in an application that does not include XML analysis means.
[0008]
Before Kide vice, for example, an image forming apparatus, the data for the previous SL device itself is data indicating the internal state of the image forming apparatus.
[0009]
Before Kide vice preferably further comprises a web server means for providing a pre-Symbol X ML data. When the application requests the XML data from the web server unit, the determination unit determines whether the application has an XML analysis unit, and the data transmission unit includes the web server unit. To transmit the XML data.
[0011]
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
Hereinafter, embodiments of the present invention will be described with reference to the accompanying drawings.

However, if the application of the client terminal 300 (for example, 300a, 300b) does not include the XML analysis module, the XML data cannot be displayed. Therefore, in order to be able to display in such a case, the application of the

In the document type declaration part of the XML document, the storage location of the style sheet file for displaying the XML data can be designated, and thereby the style sheet for the XML data is designated. In this example, in the second sentence, the storage location of the style sheet file is specified after href =, and the style sheet type is specified after type =. According to this management information (data representing the internal state of the device), the product name of this multi-function device is abc-001. The document tray is installed. The paper tray is mounted, its name is Tray 1, the paper size is letter, the paper is plain paper, the paper transport direction is short side, the paper capacity is 250 sheets, Is stored in a tray. [0027]
As described above, when there is a request for browsing management data from an application on the client terminal,
[0028]
In the above, the display by an application that does not support XML data has been described as a case where the client terminal cannot directly handle the data format generated by the device. However, as another example, the device (MFP, printer, etc.) When the usage status data (one of the management data) of the number of prints at the client is tabulated and managed at the client terminal, the spreadsheet software as the client application may not be able to handle the HTML format but may be able to handle the CSV format. is there. In such a case, the device transmits data in HTML format to another server device (for example, a device management device). The server device converts the HTML format into the CSV format and transmits the generated CSV format data to the client terminal. Thus, spreadsheet software that cannot handle HTML format data can be handled as CSV format data.
[0029]
More generally, when the client terminal cannot directly handle the data format generated by the device, it is sent to another apparatus equipped with a means for analyzing the data, where it can be used in the client terminal. After conversion, it may be transmitted to the client terminal. Specifically, when an application of a client terminal requests data related to the device itself, it is determined whether or not the application can directly handle the data. When it is determined that the application does not include XML analysis means, the data is transmitted to another device having analysis means for converting the data into a format that can be decoded by the application, while an instruction for acquiring the data from the device is transmitted. The embedded information is transmitted to the client terminal application. This allows the application to access the device and display the converted data. That is, data in a format that cannot be handled by the client terminal is received after being converted into a usable format, so that it can be processed by the client terminal.
[0030]
【The invention's effect】
Even if the display application installed in the client terminal cannot handle the data format generated by the device, the data can be displayed.
