Description
The present invention relates to a mobile communication terminal device that can be used in a plurality of packet-switched data communication networks and constantly changes, that is, roams, a connection point for joining the network. In particular, the present invention relates to a mobile communication terminal device including a plurality of network access mechanisms for participating in a plurality of the networks, and these network access mechanisms are integrated and controlled so as to conform to the protocol of the network.
IEEE(Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers:米国電気電子技術者協会)802.11及びW−CDMA(広帯域符号分割多元接続)のような二重の無線アクセス技術に適用することができる。 The present invention can also be applied to dual radio access technologies such as IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) 802.11 and W-CDMA (Wideband Code Division Multiple Access). it can.
The present invention also provides a mobile communication terminal apparatus that integrally controls a network access mechanism so as to conform to the protocol of the network and a control method thereof, thereby extending the usable range of the mobile communication terminal apparatus. It is.
With the advent and development of wireless technology, mobile communication terminal devices that can participate in global networks such as the Internet are increasing today.
このようなローミングの供給は、GSM(Global Systems for Mobile communications)システムのような回線交換される通信ネットワークにおいてかなり成熟している。 These mobile communication terminal apparatuses roam between different domains and sequentially form channels with base stations of data communication networks of different packet switching systems. Such a roaming supply is quite mature in circuit switched communication networks such as GSM (Global Systems for Mobile communications) systems.
However, it is difficult to adopt such a roaming function in a packet-switched data communication network. This is because, in a communication terminal device in a packet-switched data communication network, each network uses a unique address. This unique address includes a portion (usually the head) that is effective for the topology of the space.
In
Therefore, in order to solve this address assignment problem,
In order to support such a roaming function, Non-Patent
However, in the techniques described in
Thus, a technique has been developed in which the mobile communication terminal apparatus performs a quick handoff from a base station that has previously formed a channel to a base station that has newly formed a channel. Patent Document 4 describes a technique in which a plurality of base stations measure the moving speed of a mobile communication terminal apparatus and determine whether handoff is necessary based on the measured moving speed. Although these techniques may reduce the handoff overhead, it takes some time to switch from the old care-of address to the new care-of address. Therefore, even if these techniques are used, a completely smooth handoff cannot be realized yet. Furthermore, in these techniques, since the association between the home address and the care-of address of the mobile communication terminal apparatus must be dynamically provided to the base station, the load of signal processing at the base station increases. In addition, these techniques rely on the ability and function of the base station to actually perform each handoff process, thus further complicating the base station configuration and making the base station more expensive.
One means for realizing such a quick handoff is to use a plurality of network access mechanisms. In the case of a mobile communication terminal device having a plurality of network access mechanisms, when performing a handoff, a separate network network access mechanism is provided for each base station that previously formed a channel and each base station that newly forms a channel. By allocating, handoff can be realized quickly and smoothly.
As described above, when a mobile communication terminal device roams a packet-switched data communication network, it is difficult to realize a smooth handoff that is consistent with a communication session using existing solutions. More specifically, a new care-of address is used when a mobile communication terminal device newly belongs to a different domain, that is, when a channel is newly formed with another base station different from the previous base station. Preparation time is required until it becomes possible, and packets may not reach the mobile communication terminal device during this preparation time.
無線技術の発展により、多くの移動体通信端末装置は今、IEEE802.11bとGPRS(General Packet Radio Service)とのような複数の異なるアクセス技術を利用することができるようになっている。 With the development of wireless technology, many mobile communication terminal devices can now use a plurality of different access technologies such as IEEE 802.11b and GPRS (General Packet Radio Service). Therefore, if these different access technologies are alternately used in the mobile communication terminal device, a quick handoff can be realized.
However, in order to realize this quick handoff, some triggers need to be supplied from the network access mechanism provided in the mobile communication terminal apparatus to the layer that controls it predominantly. In addition, this trigger should have a uniform format in order to eliminate the complexity of the dominant layer construction and to reduce the signal processing load that arises there.
The present invention has been made in view of the above points, and provides a mobile communication terminal device and the like that can realize a quick and continuous smooth handoff when roaming between a plurality of packet-switched data communication networks. There is to do.
A mobile communication terminal device according to the present invention includes a network access unit (NAU) having a network access mechanism that is uniquely set by adjusting specifications of hardware, software, and protocol, and an upper layer higher than the network layer. (Upper Protocol Layer) independent unit, obtained by exchanging information with the NAU using a set of interfaces, information indicating that the channel being used in the current communication session is interrupted, MADU (Multiple Access Decision Unit) for notifying the upper layer before actual interruption occurs, and adopting a configuration for roaming between a plurality of packet-switched data communication networks.
In the mobile communication terminal according to the present invention, in the above invention, the one set of interfaces used by the MADU includes a query interface, a configuration interface, and a trigger interface. The query interface transmits a signal including a part for identifying a query type (query-code) and a query result (query-result) part, and the MADU sends the signal to the NAU. A signal for obtaining information about the NAU to be transmitted is received, and the setting interface includes a part indicating a parameter to be set (parameter code: Parameter-Code) and a new value of the parameter to be set (parameter value). : Parameter-Value) part, and the parameter A code indicating an information signal to be transmitted from the AU to the MADU, and the new value of the parameter sets a signal that is a reference for generation of the information signal to be transmitted to the MADU and the parameter associated with the NAU The MADU transmits to the NAU, and the trigger interface individually identifies the NAU (NAU-identifier: NAU-Identifier) and an event that has occurred or will occur in the future (Trigger-Event: Trigger-Event ) And the NAU transmits to the MADU and receives a signal from the NAU notifying that the event has occurred or will occur in the future.
According to the mobile communication terminal apparatus of the present invention, a NAU having a network access mechanism that is uniquely set by adjusting specifications of hardware, software, and protocol, and the NAU using a set of interfaces. And MADU for controlling the NAU corresponding to the determined channel by exchanging information with the communication session and triggering in advance on the upper layer protocol before the handoff is performed. Therefore, continuous handoff is realized by dominant control by an upper layer protocol such as UPL.
In addition, according to the mobile communication terminal apparatus of the present invention, it is possible to predict whether or not the channel currently formed in the mobile communication terminal apparatus will be interrupted in the future, so it is necessary to change the NAU in use. Sufficient preparation time can be secured.
According to the mobile communication terminal apparatus of the present invention, when a channel currently in use is interrupted in the future, an alternative network access mechanism can be operated in parallel independently of the current network access mechanism. When the mobile communication terminal device enters and exits the operation range of various base stations, the interruption time of the communication session can be minimized.
In addition, according to the mobile communication terminal device according to the present invention, since a uniform format is specified for the trigger interface, network interface cards supplied from different vendors or different manufacturers in the mobile communication terminal device are used in combination. Even so, the complexity of the UPL configuration and signal processing can be reduced.
In addition, according to the communication system including the mobile communication terminal apparatus according to the present invention, since this communication system supports transmission / reception of control messages and trigger messages, a plurality of NAUs are provided with one access mechanism. Even in the case of a body communication terminal device, the above-described effects are effectively exhibited.
The essence of the present invention is to determine a channel to be used in a communication session by exchanging information with a NAU having a uniquely configured network access mechanism and the NAU using a set of interfaces, and corresponding to the determined channel By using a mobile communication terminal device comprising: a MADU that controls the NAU; and a UPL that controls and controls the plurality of NAUs and the MADU using the interface. When roaming between packet-switched data communication networks, the NAU or a NAU communication channel provided in the NAU is assigned to each data communication network to form a channel, and the individual channels before and after the handoff are assigned. The corresponding NAU or N By operating simultaneously in parallel the U communication channel, it is to smoothly perform a hand-off without causing interruption of the communication session associated with a new address to be used thereafter and the old address used before.
In the present invention, it has been disclosed that an upper layer protocol in a mobile communication terminal apparatus can receive a trigger from a NAU. This trigger can provide timing for each component to process a signal for handoff when the mobile communication terminal device roams. Therefore, this trigger can function as a signal to alert the interruption of the currently used channel or the occurrence of handoff. Therefore, if this trigger is used, it is possible to secure a sufficient preparation time for an upper layer protocol to take over a communication session from one NAU to another NAU, thereby realizing a smooth handoff in which the communication session is continuous. be able to.
In addition, in the present invention, a uniform interface is specified so that the configuration of the upper layer protocol and the complexity of signal processing are eliminated. Thus, even when network interface cards supplied from different vendors or different manufacturers are used in combination, compatibility between these cards can be maintained. In the present invention, an interface translation routine is defined so that such a network interface card can be smoothly integrated into a mobile communication terminal.
In the present invention, for the purpose of shortening the interruption time of the network service, the trigger message is processed by the upper layer protocol in order to realize the delivery of the communication session in the upper layer, so that a plurality of access mechanisms are provided. A mobile communication terminal device is required. In the present invention, when a higher layer protocol receives a trigger message alerting the interruption of the currently used channel prior to the interruption of the channel, an alternative network access mechanism different from the currently used network access mechanism The operation is started prior to the interruption. Therefore, in the present invention, preparation for taking over a communication session is started before the channel interruption actually occurs.
In addition, in a communication system including the mobile communication terminal device according to the present invention, if transmission / reception of a trigger message to the mobile communication terminal device is supported, the mobile communication terminal device is one By simply providing a network access mechanism, a smooth handoff can be realized by avoiding interruption of the currently used channel as described above.
Further, the communication system according to the present invention includes a mobile communication terminal device that requests transmission of a trigger message such as a handoff warning at a specified timing, and a trigger message having a predetermined format in response to the transmission request. A base station transmitting to the mobile communication terminal device is included. As soon as this trigger message is received from the communication system, the mobile communication terminal device starts preparations for taking over the communication session in the upper layer protocol.

移動体通信端末装置100は、ネットワークアクセスユニット(NAU:Network Access Unit)101をm個(mは2以上の整数)と、UPL(Upper Protocol Layer)102と、MADU(Multiple Access Decision Unit)103と、を具備する。
The mobile
The
Since the present invention aims to provide a mobile communication terminal apparatus having a plurality of network access mechanisms, the mobile
Here, if a certain network access mechanism forms an active channel with the base station, it means that the
The
The
The
The operation of the
Next, at the time marked T2000, a trigger interface is transmitted from the
Next, in the section marked T3000, the NAU 101b is used instead of the
Therefore, the packet is already transferred from the NAU 101b to the
Another function of
In selecting the

(Ii) Select the
(Iii) The

(Viii) Location and restriction information (a network access mechanism cannot be used in a certain area due to legal restrictions), that is, the

(X) Weighting the above criteria and summing each weighted criterion (the weighting may be zero, positive, or negative), and the
From these, it is considered that the
Furthermore,
The first interface is a Query interface that is sent from the
Query(IN Query_Code; OUT Query_Result) Query (IN Query_Code; OUT Query_Result)
Here, the query code (Query_Code) is a unique identifier for identifying the content of the query, while the query result (Query_Result) is an answer to the query, and stores information about the
The second interface is a configuration interface that is transmitted from the
Configure(IN Parameter_Code; IN Parameter_Value; ) Configure (IN Parameter_Code; IN Parameter_Value;)
Here, the parameter code (Parameter_Code) is a unique identifier for identifying the setting parameter to be adjusted. The parameter value (Parameter_Value) is an explicit parameter value to be set. Parameter_Value can comprise multiple fields if necessary and can store multiple parameter values for different configuration purposes.
The third interface is a trigger interface transmitted from the
Trigger(IN NAU_Identifier; IN Trigger_Event; ) Trigger (IN NAU_Identifier; IN Trigger_Event;)
Here, the NAU identifier (NAU_Identifier) is a unique identifier for identifying the
Since the
Examples of queries that MADU 103 can use to query any status information of

All these query types can be set as flags in the query code so that one query can serve as multiple queries. For queries such as TSPEC that require special parameters or some fixed structure, if a flag is present in it, it is carried with the query.
The
Query_Result allows
Query_Codeに存在する問合せに対する回答がQuery_Resultに格納される。
Query_Result includes different return values from

An example of a trigger interface is as follows.
<NAU_Trigger> ::= <NAU_Identifier> <Trigger_Event ::= *<Trigger_Type>*<Trigger_Info>> <NAU_Trigger> :: = <NAU_Identifier> <Trigger_Event :: = * <Trigger_Type> * <Trigger_Info >>

An example of information provided from the
(1) Base station error For example, when a base station encounters an error such as an upstream link interruption, or encounters some hardware problem, or when a channel to a certain data communication network is interrupted. The base station broadcasts a beacon signal in the IEEE 802.11 network to a plurality of
(2) Change in channel cost For example, when there is a change in a data communication network such as a mobile router attached to another administrative domain, the cost for using the channel also changes. The
(3) Changes in QoS support When there is a change in the QoS support of a data communication network, eg, an IEEE 802.11e network, the TSPEC requested by the

(5) Modulation scheme change For several reasons, a data communication network may determine a modulation scheme change during a communication session in which a

The
Also, the

FIG. 4 is a block diagram showing a configuration of mobile
In the mobile
When this

(Embodiment 4)
It can be seen from FIG. 2 that in order to realize a smooth handoff, the
In the fourth embodiment of the present invention, in the mobile
ハンドオフ推定器500は、複数のTDF(Tapped-Delay Filters)502aから502m(mは2以上の整数)と比較器503とを含んで構成される。
FIG. 5 is a block diagram illustrating the configuration of an apparatus known as handoff estimator 500. The handoff estimator 500 may be incorporated in the

The output from the
The
FIG. 6 shows a specific configuration of the
If an input signal at a certain moment n is expressed as x (n), an output signal y (n) from the
y(n) = w[0] + sum of all i from 1 to m [ x[n-i+1] . w[i] ]. ・・・(式1) y [n] = w [0] + sum of all i from 1 to m [x [n-i + 1]. w [i]].
Returning to FIG. 5, the signal temporarily input to the
To determine the weights, manufacturers can use standard training techniques for linear filters such as the least mean square error method (see, eg, Non-Patent Document 3). Also, when the
Another possibility is that the weight is determined in advance and is used in each mobile
The use of
These weight sets may be determined in advance by a vendor or manufacturer, specified in advance by a standards body, or loaded by the base station when the
In fact, obtaining the weight from the base station is a reasonable technique because the base station is in a better position to know its operating range and characteristics. So we describe two realization scenarios below.
In the first scenario, when the
The second scenario is that the
(Embodiment 5)
In Embodiment 5 according to the present invention, in a communication system comprising a plurality of packet-switched data communication networks formed around a base station and a mobile communication terminal device, the mobile communication terminal device roams. The procedure and its mode in the case of doing will be described.
In a communication system including a plurality of data communication networks, a situation in which roaming, that is, handoff of a mobile communication terminal device is caused by the data communication network may occur. Such a situation is likely to occur when a plurality of base stations constituting the communication system are densely formed. Multiple base stations can cooperate with each other to monitor the position of the mobile communication terminal. These base stations can detect a significant handoff event when the mobile communication terminal apparatus is moving from the base station that currently forms the channel toward another base station.
FIG. 7 shows a simplified configuration of the communication system in the present embodiment. This communication system is composed of three packet-switched data communication networks formed around three base stations 701, 702 and 703 and a mobile
When the mobile
(1) an identifier of the mobile communication terminal device;
(2) the determined trigger type, ie handoff warning;
(3) Timing required to send a trigger message before the time when the handoff event is estimated.
When any of the base stations detects that the handoff event is significant for the mobile

(1) trigger type, ie handoff warning;
(2) an identifier of the current base station;
(3) a new base station identifier;
(4) Predicted handoff time.
Further, in this communication system, when the mobile
When the
As described in the fourth embodiment, it is possible for the mobile
(1) an identifier of the mobile communication terminal device;
(2) the determined trigger type, ie handoff warning;
(3) Timing required to send a trigger message before the estimated time of the handoff event.
Also, the base stations 701, 702 and 703 reply another type of control message for the mobile

(2) an identifier of the current base station;

In the present invention, since the trigger interface is transmitted to the upper layer protocol in advance before the handoff is performed, continuous smooth handoff is realized by dominant control by the upper layer protocol, for example, UPL.
