Description

【0001】

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
According to the present invention, the face member is formed by a member different from the head body, the end of the rearward extending portion of the face member is fixed to the opening edge of the head body, and the face member has a double structure. Regarding the head.
[0002]
[Prior art]
2. Description of the Related Art Conventionally, a face member having a double structure is disclosed in JP-A-11-114105. The two plate-like members are welded to each other so that a narrow space is formed between them, and the two-piece welded members (face units) are fitted into the openings of the head body. Welding. It is said that even if the plate thickness of each plate of the face unit is 1.5 to 2.0 mm, strength and durability are ensured and the flight distance can be improved. The relationship between the face unit's front plate (impact side) and back plate (backup side) is that when the front plate returns to its original shape after being warped and deformed when hitting the ball, it is pushed back by the front plate. Since the warped and deformed back plate returns to the original shape while pushing the front plate forward, the repulsive force of the two plates (front and back plates) is applied to the ball to increase the flight distance.
[0003]
[Problems to be solved by the invention]
In the conventional face double structure head, the outer peripheral portions of the two front and back plates are welded, and at this time, a bead is generated along with the welding, and this bead is fitted to the contour of the opening of the head body by cutting or polishing. It must be finished. Further, the face unit finished in this way is fixed to the head body opening by welding the outer peripheral edge of the back plate (backup member) to the mouth edge of the opening. In some cases, a portion that cannot be welded may be formed unless the size and the size of the outer peripheral edge of the face unit exactly match each other.
[0004]
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION Accordingly, an object of the present invention is to provide a golf club head in which the face member is easily and reliably fixed to the head body, and the flight distance is increased by a face double structure.
[0005]
[Means for Solving the Problems]
In order to achieve the above-described object, the present invention provides a golf club head in which a face member is fixed to an opening edge of a head body of a hollow metal shell having an opening at the front, and an outer peripheral edge of a ball striking surface extends backward. A face member having an extended portion is formed by forging or rolling to a thickness of 1.0 to 2.5 mm, and the face member is forged to a thickness of 1.0 to 2.5 mm on the backside of the ball striking surface. The reinforcing plate formed by rolling is superposed and the outer peripheral edge thereof is fixed, the end of the extending portion of the face member is fixed to the opening edge of the head body, and the roll radius of the hitting surface of the face member is 250 to 300 mm. The roll radius of the reinforcing plate is 50 mm or more larger than the roll radius of the ball striking surface .
[0006]
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
Preferred embodiments of the present invention will be described below with reference to the drawings.
[0007]
FIG. 1 shows a face member 1 and a reinforcing plate 4, and the face member 1 has an extended portion 3 in which the outer peripheral edge of a ball striking surface 2 for hitting a ball extends backward. The outer peripheral edge of the reinforcing plate 4 that is slightly smaller than the back surface 2A of the hitting surface 2 of the face member 1 is fixed. As a fixing method, the outer peripheral edge of the reinforcing plate 4 may be arc-welded to the back surface 2A (see FIG. 3, reference numeral 10 indicates a welded portion). In this embodiment, the extending portion 3 is not formed in a portion that contacts the hosel 7.
[0008]
FIG. 2 is a cross-sectional view of a completed golf club head in a state where the face member 1 having a double structure shown in FIG. 1 is fixed to the head body 5. The head body 5 is a hollow metal shell, and the front is open, and the end 3 </ b> A of the extension 3 is arc welded to the opening edge 6. Further, a hosel 7 for shaft insertion is formed integrally with the head body 5, and a weight member 9 is fixed inside the sole 8.
[0009]
The face member 1 is formed by forging or rolling a metal material such as stainless steel, maraging steel, aluminum alloy, titanium alloy or the like within a thickness range of 1.0 mm to 2.5 mm. The material 20 of the face member 1 is shown in FIG. This material 20 is formed by forging or rolling, and a portion indicated by a dotted line in the drawing is bent to form an extension portion 3 as shown in FIG. In addition, a score line (not shown) serving as a groove portion is formed in a portion of the material 20 where the striking surface 2 is formed by pressing, forging, or engraving. Further, when the extending portion 3 is bent, the ball striking face 2 is shaped to have a predetermined roll and bulge by plastic deformation of the material itself. The roll radius of the hitting surface 2 is in the range of 250 to 350 mm. It is preferable that the roll radius of the reinforcing plate 4 fixed to the back surface 2A of the ball striking surface 2 having such a roll radius is larger than the roll radius of the ball striking surface 2 by 50 mm or more. Thus, by making the roll radius of the reinforcing plate 4 50 mm or more larger than the roll radius of the ball striking surface 2, a gap (see FIG. 5) is formed between the back surface 2A of the ball striking surface 2 and the reinforcing plate 4. Become.
[0010]
Similar to the face member 1, the reinforcing plate 4 is made of a metal material such as stainless steel, maraging steel, aluminum alloy, titanium alloy and the like having a thickness of 1.0 to 2.5 mm formed by forging or rolling. The reinforcing plate 4 is fixed to the rear surface 2A of the striking surface 2 in FIG. 3 by welding so as to form the welded portion 10 over the entire circumference of the outer peripheral edge, but the central portion of the outer peripheral edge of the reinforcing plate 4 is symmetrical. The welded portion 10 can also be formed vertically or horizontally. For example, when the welded portion 10 has two locations in the vertical direction, the welding at one location is at least 30 mm and at most 100 mm. If the range of the welded portion 10 is small, there is a possibility that the reinforcing plate 4 will come off when the striking surface 2 is deformed at the time of impact and is pressed against the reinforcing plate 4. As shown in FIG. 3, if the entire outer periphery of the reinforcing plate 4 is welded, the weight may be excessively biased toward the ball striking surface 2 or the entire head may become heavy. Therefore, a plurality of holes can be formed in the reinforcing plate 4 to reduce the weight on the face member 1 side.
[0011]
The golf club head of the present invention is suitable as a driver's head. When configured as a driver head as shown in FIG. 2, the metal material forming the head body 5 and the face member 1 is used to increase the head volume. A material having a small specific gravity, that is, a material having a specific gravity of 5 or less is preferable. The head volume is 230 cc or more, particularly 250 cc or more, and the limit is 350 cc. The club length is not less than 44 inches and not more than 50 inches. The head weight at this time is preferably in the range of 175 g to 205 g. Further, if the depth of the center of gravity is shallow, an appropriate backspin cannot be applied to the ball, and therefore the depth of the center of gravity is preferably 25 mm or more. For this purpose, a weight member 9 is provided. FIG. 8 shows the center of gravity depth and the center of gravity height.
[0012]
FIG. 5 is an enlarged cross-sectional view of a location where the head main body 5 and the face member 1 are welded, and the thickness of the opening edge 6 of the head main body 5 is 0.5 to 1.5 of the thickness of the end portion 3A of the extending portion 3. It is preferable to double. The thickness of the end portion 3A is preferably 1.0 mm to 3.0 mm, and the end portion 3A preferably has a substantially uniform thickness over the entire circumference. If the thickness of the end portion 3A is less than 1 mm, welding may cause sink marks, making it difficult to weld. On the other hand, if the thickness exceeds 3 mm, the weight of the face member 1 increases, which is not preferable. By making the thickness of the opening edge 6 thicker than that of the portion other than the opening edge of the head body 5 and by making the thickness of the end portion 3A thicker than other portions of the face member 1, it is possible to It is possible to prevent a reduction in strength due to partial thinning due to sink marks.
[0013]
In the embodiment shown in FIG. 6, the hosel 7 is manufactured separately, and the head body 5 and the face member 1 are welded to the hosel 7.
[0014]
The face member 1 shown in FIG. 7 shows an example in which a recess 2B is formed on the back side of the ball striking face 2. Accordingly, the thickness of the ball striking face 2 where the recess 2B is formed is preferably 1.0 to 2.0 mm, and more preferably 1.2 to 1.5 mm. Furthermore, the outer peripheral portion 2C of the concave portion 2B is likely to sink when the reinforcing material 4 is welded to the face portion 2, and it is preferable that the outer peripheral portion 2C, which is a portion to be welded, is thickened. The outer peripheral portion 2C is preferably formed along the extended portion 3, and the thickness of the outer peripheral portion 2C is preferably about 0.2 to 0.6 mm thicker than the concave portion 2B, and the width is 1 to 5 mm. Is good.
[0015]
FIG. 8 is a diagram for explaining the center of gravity depth and the center of gravity height of the club head. G indicates the position of the center of gravity.
[0016]
The head body 5 is formed of a cast 6Al-4V-Ti alloy, and the thickness of the opening edge 6 of the portion to be welded to the face member 1 is set to 2.0 mm. The thickness was set to 0 mm, and the thickness of the head body 5 at the back of the head was further reduced. For the face member 1, a rolled material (SP700) of a titanium alloy having a thickness of 2.0 mm was punched into a desired shape, and then the ball striking face 2 and the extending portion 3 were formed by press molding. A score line was engraved on the hitting surface 2 and formed into a roll radius of 300 mm and a bulge radius of 300 mm. The face width at this time was 48 mm, and an elliptical recess 2B having a major axis of 60 mm, a minor axis of 40 mm, and a depth of 0.3 mm was formed at the center of the head. On the back surface 2A, a reinforcing plate 4 that is about 5.0 mm smaller than the ball striking face 2 was pressed using the same rolled material (SP700) as the face member 1, and formed into a roll radius of 350 mm and a bulge radius of 350 mm. The reinforcing plate 4 was superposed on the back surface 2A of the ball striking surface 2, and the outer peripheral edge of the reinforcing plate 4 was arc welded to the back surface 2A in an argon atmosphere. The welding positions at this time were above and below the back surface 2A of the ball striking face 2, and were welded with an upper width of 50 mm and a lower width of 80 mm. The maximum gap between the back surface 2A and the reinforcing plate 4 was about 1.3 mm. A comparison was made between the results of trial hits between a driver of the embodiment of the present invention equipped with such a head and a general driver. The details of the clubs to be compared with the embodiment of the present invention are as shown in Table 1. The evaluation results of the test hits are as shown in Table 2.

【The invention's effect】
As described above, according to the present invention, a golf club head in which a face member is fixed to an opening edge of a head body of a hollow metal shell having an opening at the front, the outer peripheral edge of the ball striking surface extends backward. A face member having an extended portion is formed by forging or rolling to a thickness of 1.0 to 2.5 mm, and the face member is forged to a thickness of 1.0 to 2.5 mm on the back surface of the ball striking surface. superposing the reinforcing plate formed by rolling and fixing the outer peripheral edge thereof, solid and wear end of the extending portion of the face member to the opening edge of the head body, 250 a roll radius of the ball striking face of the face member Since the roll radius of the reinforcing plate is 50 mm or more larger than the roll radius of the ball striking surface within the range of 300 mm , the flight distance is improved and the ball striking surface can be widened, making it easy to expand the sweet area In Obtain. Further, since the end of the extended portion of the face member is fixed to the opening edge of the head body, it can be easily and reliably fixed by arc welding or the like. Further, by making the roll radius of the reinforcing plate 50 mm or more larger than the roll radius of the ball striking surface, a gap is formed between the back surface of the ball striking surface and the reinforcing plate.
