本発明は、画像形成装置に関する。詳しくは、電子メールに添付して送信された画像データを受信して画像形成する画像形成装置である。

【従来の技術】
近年、スキャナ等の画像入力装置で取り込んだ画像データを電子メールに添付してインターネット等の通信ネットワークを介して遠隔地にあるプリンタやデジタル複写機等の画像形成装置に送信し印刷出力することが行われるようになり、ファクシミリよりも安価かつ高画質に画像を遠隔地に送付することができるようになった。これらの画像形成装置では、通常の印刷機能に加えて、カラーで印刷を行うカラー印刷機能、用紙の両面に印刷を行う両面印刷機能、用紙の１ページにＮページ分のデータを印刷するＮ−Ｕｐ機能、印刷後用紙をまとめてステープルするステープル機能、パンチ穴を開けるパンチ機能等の各種応用機能が搭載されている場合が多い。ところが、上記画像送信方法により画像データを遠隔地の画像形成装置に送信し、かかる応用機能を利用した出力形式により画像データを印刷出力しようとする場合、送信先の画像形成装置に固有のプリンタドライバや特有の書式を用いる必要があり、全ての送信先の画像形成装置のプリンタドライバ等を予め用意しておくことは現実的ではないため、送信先の画像形成装置に搭載された応用機能を利用できないという問題があった。

【発明が解決しようとする課題】
本発明は上記従来技術の有する問題点に鑑みなされたものであり、その目的とするところは、電子メールに添付して送信された画像データを受信して画像形成する画像形成装置において、搭載された各種応用機能を利用した出力形式により画像データを出力することのできる画像形成装置を提供することにある。

【課題を解決するための手段】
本発明の上記目的は、下記の手段によって達成される。

（１）複数の電子メールアドレスにそれぞれ画像形成装置に搭載された複数種類の印刷機能または後処理機能に関する画像出力形式を割り当てる画像出力形式割当手段と、前記複数の電子メールアドレスにかかる電子メールを受信する電子メール受信手段と、受信した電子メールにかかる電子メールアドレスに割り当てられた前記画像出力形式に従って前記受信した電子メールに添付された画像データに対応する画像を形成する画像形成手段と、を有することを特徴とする画像形成装置。
（２）前記画像処理形式は、カラー印刷またはモノクロ印刷機能、両面印刷機能または片面印刷機能、Ｎ−Ｕｐ機能、ステープル機能、およびパンチ機能からなる群から選ばれた少なくとも一つの機能に関することを特徴とする（１）に記載の画像形成装置。

【発明の実施の形態】
以下、本発明の実施の形態を、図面を参照して詳細に説明する。

図１は、本発明の実施形態にかかる画像形成装置を含む画像送信システムの全体構成を示すブロック図である。本実施形態にかかる画像送信システムは、画像形成装置としてのプリンタ１と、画像入力装置としてのスキャナ２とを備え、これらは通信ネットワーク３を介して相互に通信可能に接続されている。なお、通信ネットワークに接続される機器の種類および台数は、図１に示す例に限定されない。

さらに、第１の印刷形式設定画面４５においてタグキー４５８ａを押すことにより、図８に示すような第２の印刷形式設定画面を表示させる。第２の印刷形式設定画面４６を構成するキー４６１〜４６８ｄは、第１の印刷形式設定画面４５におけるキー４５１〜４５８ｄと同様の機能を有する。第２の印刷形式設定画面４６において、前述の第１の印刷形式設定画面４５と同様の手順により第２の電子メールアドレス（ｔｏｋｙｏ＿２ｉｎ１＠ａａａ．ｂｂｂ．ｃｏ．ｊｐ）に割り当てる印刷機能を選択して印刷形式（モノクロ、片面、２−ｕｐ、ステープルなし）を設定する。さらに同様の手順を繰り返して、プリンタ１に設定した複数の電子メールアドレスに対し個別に印刷形式を割り当てる。そして、管理者用設定画面４１において設定キー４１４を押すことによりすべての設定を有効にして、プリンタ１への電子メールアドレスの設定および電子メールアドレスへの画像出力形式の割り当ての操作を終了する。

つぎに、本実施形態の画像送信システムにおけるスキャナ２の画像送信処理の手順について説明する。図９は、本実施形態におけるスキャナ２の画像送信処理の手順を示すフローチャートである。図９において、まず、スキャナ２は、画像を添付して送信する電子メールの宛先として、プリンタ１に設定された電子メールアドレスの入力を受け付ける（Ｓ１０１）。ユーザは、プリンタ１に設定された電子メールアドレスのうち、所望の印刷形式が割り当てられた電子メールアドレスを操作パネル等を介してスキャナ２に入力する。さらに、スキャナ２は、本文および件名等のその他のヘッダ情報の入力を受け付ける（Ｓ１０２）。つぎに、ユーザからの原稿読み取り命令の入力を待って所定の位置にセットされた原稿を読み取って画像データを取得する（Ｓ１０３）。ついで、得られた画像データを添付ファイルとし、入力された本文およびヘッダ情報を用いてプリンタ１の電子メールアドレスを宛先とする電子メールデータを作成する（Ｓ１０４）。そして、作成した電子メールデータを、通信ネットワーク３を介して予め設定されている送信メールサーバに送信する（Ｓ１０５）。

つぎに、本実施形態の画像送信システムにおけるプリンタ１の画像形成処理の手順について説明する。図１０は、本実施形態におけるプリンタ１の画像形成処理の手順を示すフローチャートである。図１０において、プリンタ１は、設定された複数の電子メールアドレスごとに、ネットワークインタフェース１６および通信ネットワーク３を介して指定された受信メールサーバに接続して電子メールアドレスおよびパスワードを送信し、電子メールの受信要求を行う（Ｓ２０１）。そして、接続した受信メールサーバにプリンタ１にかかる電子メールアドレス宛ての電子メールの着信がある場合は（Ｓ２０２のＹＥＳ）、当該電子メールデータを受信し（Ｓ２０３）、受信メールサーバとの接続を終了する。一方、接続した受信メールサーバに当該電子メールアドレス宛ての電子メールの着信がない場合は、受信メールサーバとの接続を断って画像形成処理全体を終了する（Ｓ２０２のＮＯ）。上述の受信メールサーバへの電子メールの受信要求は、予め設定されたスケジュールに基づいて定期的に行うものであっても良いし、ユーザからの接続命令の入力を待って行うものであっても良い。また、受信メールサーバへの電子メールの着信を監視して着信した電子メールアドレスにかかるメールクライアントに電子メールの着信を通知するプログラム等により着信通知を受信した場合に、受信メールサーバに電子メールの受信要求を行う構成であっても良い。
