前記公知例は、前後に本体ケースを分割し、分割したケースのうち前側ケース全体を集塵ボックスに構成しているため、ケースの下方を覆う底板の面積が大きくなり、重量が重いという課題がある。また、前後に分割したケースを連結固定する連結構成も堅牢である必要があり、その分重量は嵩むという課題がある。
また、公知例は、走行車輪の側面に当接するV溝受動輪により掃除用横軸ブラシに回転を伝達しているが、この伝達機構に課題がある。
即ち、公知例の伝達機構では、摩擦伝達のため、伝達ロスが大きい。しかも、掃除用横軸ブラシは本体ケースが後進状態のときは斜め前方に上動する構成のため、例え前進状態でも、掃除用横軸ブラシの回転負荷が大きくなると、後進状態のように斜め前方に逃げることになり、伝達ロスが生じる。
また、公知例の伝達構成では、本体ケースが後進状態のとき、掃除用横軸ブラシは停止せずに逆転するので床上の塵埃等を飛散させるという課題もある。
