Abstract

A folding hanger apparatus particularly useful in luggage has two central portions which are hinged together a pivot between an open position and a closed position, and a hook portion having a hinged connection to one of the central portions. Clothing placed upon the hanger can be hung in an unfolded condition when the hanger is in the open position, and the hanger can be folded to the closed position while clothing is hanging thereon so that the clothing can be hung in a vertically folded position within a confined container such as luggage. The hook pivots to a position pressed against the clothing to prevent the clothing from sliding off the folded hanger. When the hanger is in the unfolded position, the hook portion can be pivoted to an extended position to be used to hang the hanger from a conventional closet rod. A pant loop is provided to permit pants and other garments to be suspended from the bottom of the hanger. The pant loop is movable from side to side to permit the loaded hanger to balance when in the unfolded position, and to permit the hanger to pivot to the folded position. A useful trolley system within a luggage case permits the hanger to be temporarily secured in the folded position within the luggage case. <IMAGE>

背景技術
衣服および衣類用のハンガーが何世紀にもわたって製造されてきた。組成および材料にはある程度の変更（例えば木材からプラスチック被覆ワイヤへの変更）があったが、通常見られる衣服ハンガーは何十年もの間、形態と効用の点ではほとんど変わっていない。現代的なライフスタイルが組み立て式および／または折りたたみ式ハンガーの開発を奨励することになった。ほとんどの折りたたみ式ハンガーの目的は、使用していない時に収納するためにサイズを小さくしたハンガーを提供することであった。
例えばタングに対する米国特許第５１４５０９８号は、サイズを小さくして可搬性を向上させるために２つの軸のまわりで折りたたみ可能なハンガー装置を開示している。折りたたんだ状態でハンガーを使用できるようにするための工夫はなされていない。
同様に、チェンに対する米国特許第５０８５３５７号は、収納のために占有する空間は小さいが、折りたたんだ状態ではほとんど利用可能性のない組み立て式衣類ハンガーを開示している。
一般に人々は特にビジネスで旅行をすることがますます多くなっているので、クロゼットからスーツケースに衣服を容易に詰め込むことができるようにするためにハンガーが取り外し可能に配置できるかばんを提供することが慣例となっている。例えばリッター、ジュニアに対する米国特許第２００１１５６号は、スーツケース内とクロゼットの衣服ロッド上とで使用できるハンガーを教示している。航空機内に「持ち込み」かつ機内に収納するのに十分なだけ小さく、しかも不当なしわを生ずることなくフォーマルなビジネス用衣服を収納するかばんを提供することがますます望ましくなっている。かばん内にたたんだ状態で衣服を吊り下げることによって、コンパクトでしわをつけることなく、かばんへの詰め込みが可能となる。
折りたたんだ状態で使用できるハンガーが提案されており、例えばそのような装置がボンサルに対する米国特許第９２０８９４号に示されている。このような装置は、その用途がスーツコートやシャツに限定されることが多くかつ衣類が折りたたんだハンガーから外れやすいので、満足できないものであることが多かった。
タテマツに対する米国特許第４１８６８５８号は、スーツコートを折りたたんだ状態で吊り下げるように折り曲げ可能な可撓性ハンガーを開示している。その可撓性ハンガーはパンツやスラックスを収容せず、かつ開示されているように、通常のクロゼット衣服ロッドでは使用できない。
上述したこととは関係なく、パンツその他の衣服をかばん内に整然と折りたたんだ状態でしっかりと保持するが、衣服を通常のクロゼット衣服ロッドに吊り下げるためにも使用できるハンガーの必要とされている。下記の請求された発明は、このこれまで満たされていなかった必要を満たすために開発された。
発明の概要
本発明は、折りたたみ可能なハンガーと、そのハンガーをかばん内に取り外し可能に装着する画期的なトロリーを含む。このハンガーは広義には一般的に垂直なヒンジによって連結された２つの半体よりなり、それらの半体を同一平面の開いた位置と、並置される重なり合う閉じた位置との間で折りたたむことができるようになされている。このハンガーは、衣服をかけた状態で、開いた位置または閉じた位置で使用できる。フックが、引っ込んだ位置と繰り出した位置との間で枢動するように、それらの半体のうちの１つに対するヒンジ式連結を有する。そのフックは、（１）繰り出した位置にある時に、通常の衣服クロゼットロッドから吊り下げることができるようにする、そして（２）引っ込めた位置にある時には、ハンガーが閉じた位置にある場合に衣類がハンガーからすべって外れるのを防止するという２つの機能を果たす。ハンガーが開いた位置にあるか閉じた位置にあるかに関係なく、任意の摺動可能なパンツループでハンガーがパンツを担持することができる。かばん内に取り付けられたトロリー構体によって、フックの後退位置に関係なく、折りたたんだ位置にあるハンガーをかばん内に取り外し可能に装着できるようにする。
本発明の第１の目的は、背が高くて狭いコンパートメント内に垂直に折りたたんだ衣服を吊り下げるのに使用するために折りたたむことができ、かつ広ろげた衣服を従来の衣服ハンガーロッドに吊り下げるのに使用するために広げることができるハンガーを提供することである。
本発明の第１の利益は、折りたたんだ衣服が折りたたんだハンガーからすべって外れるのを防止するための効果的な手段が提供されることである。
本発明の他の利益は、広げた状態で使用された場合にハンガーの折りたたみ可能性またはそれの平衡状態を妨害することなくパンツを折りたたみハンガーから吊り下げるてめの手段が設けられることである。
本発明によれば、衣服を吊り下げることができるハンガーであって、全体として同一平面関係の位置と並置された位置との間で第１および第２の中央体部材が枢動可能となるように第１の中央体部材に枢動可能に連結された第１の中央体部材と、中央体部材のうちの１つに枢動可能に連結され、前記１つの中央体部材と実質的に同一平面関係の繰り出した位置と、前記１つの中央体部材と実質的に平行な引っ込めた位置との間で枢動可能となされたフックを具備しており、前記フックが並置された位置にある２つの中央体部材の間に配置可能となされたハンガーが提供される。フックは衣服に係合するために繰り出した位置から引っ込めた位置まで可動であり、かつ中央体部材は、フックが衣服に係合している状態で、同一平面関係の位置から並置された位置まで枢動可能である。１つの好ましい実施例では、中央体部材が同一平面関係の位置にある時に、第１の中央体部材が第２の中央体部材の一部分に重畳し、体部材のうちの１つが少なくとも１つの開孔を有し、かつ他の１つの中央体部材がそれから延長していて重畳関係を確保するために前記開孔に挿通可能な少なくとも１つのタブを具備している。このハンガーには必要に応じて、中央体部材のうちの１つにループホルダーが設けられ、そのループホルダーにはパンツループが摺動可能に配置される。パンツループはハンガー上で中央位置と変位位置との間で可動である。
また本発明によれば、かばんの中に衣類を取り出し可能に固定するための改良された手段であって、全体として同一平面関係の位置と並置された位置との間で第１および第２の中央体部材が枢動可能となるように第１の中央体部材に枢動可能に連結された第１の中央体部材と、中央体部材のうちの１つに枢動可能に連結され、前記１つの中央体部材と実質的に同一平面関係の繰り出した位置と、前記１つの中央体部材と実質的に平行な引っ込めた位置との間で枢動可能となされ、それにより並置された位置にある２つの中央体部材の間に配置可能となされたフックと、閉塞あれた空間内にあってハンガーをかばんに着脱可能に装着するためのトロリーを具備した前記改良された手段も提供される。１つの実施例では、ハンガーは中央体部材のうちの関連するものから延長した第１の支持アームをさらに具備している。このハンガーは少なくとも１つの開孔を有していてもよく、その場合には装着するためのトロリー手段はその開孔に挿通可能なロッドよりなる。さらに好ましくは、第１の支持アームが１対の離間した開孔を有し、かつ装着するためのトロリー手段はその開孔に挿通可能な２つの離間した水平ロッドを具備する。中央体部材の他の１つから延長した第２の支持アームが必要に応じて提供され、第２の支持部材は１対の離間した開孔を有し、中央体部材が並置された位置にある場合には、前記第１の支持アームの開孔が第２の支持アームの開孔に心合可能であり、２つの離間された水平ロッドのそれぞれは第１の支持アームと第２の支持アームの心合した各開孔に挿通可能である。

好ましい実施例の説明
（本発明を実施するためのベストモード）
本発明はかばんに使用して特に有益であるが、本発明は、簡単で信頼性がありかつ折りたたみ可能なハンガーが望ましい（例えば狭いロッカーあるいはクロゼットで）状況で適用しうることが明らかとなるであろう。本明細書および請求の範囲では、「かばん」、「かばんケース」、「スーツケース」あるいは「ケース」という言葉は、一般的にかばんを意味し、かつホイールがついているかいないかに関係なく、立て型あるいは「アップライト」ケース、プルマンスーツケース、ガーメントバッグを含む。限定のためではなく説明の目的で、本発明は図１および２に全体として示されたホイール付き立て型ケース２０について説明される。しかし、本発明の特徴は種々のかばん装置に適用できることが当業者には容易に明らかであろう。ケース２０は、衣類や他の日用品を纏めて運搬のため収納しうる閉塞した空間を画定するボトム、４つのサイドおよびトップを有するアップライトの全体として矩形プリズム型の容器として示されている。ケース２０は公知の任意の材料で構成されうるものであり、かつハードサイドプラスチックであってもよいが、軽量フレーム上に配置されたナイロンまたは他の耐久性のファブリックで製造された「ソフトサイド」かばんとして示されている。
図３はケース２０は正面領域２２と背面領域２４を有しうることをさらに示している。正面領域２２は例えばファブリックヒンジ等によって共通のエッジに沿って背面領域に撓み可能に接合されており、正面領域２２がドアまたはリッドのような形態で背面領域から揺動または枢動され、内部にアクセスするのに便利なようになされている。ケース２０を閉じるためには、正面領域２２と背面領域２４がそれらの共通の周囲に沿って合わせされて（例えばジッパーによって）互いに固着される。図１ー３は正面領域が、かばんが閉じているとき（図１および２）にはかばん２０の外側からだけ、またはかばんが開いているとき（図３）には内側からのみ、あるいは外側および内側の両方からアクセスできる１つまたはそれ以上のポケット収納コンパートメントを具備しうることを示している。図１ー３は、ケース２０には公知の技術に従って２つ以上のホイールまたはスキッドを取り付けて、使用者がケースを支持表面上で傾斜させて牽引できるように、あるいは図面に示されているようにケースをアップライト状態に安定して休止させることができるようになされうることをも示している。ケース２０には１つ以上の従来のキャリーおよび／またはホイールハンドルも設けられている。
本発明の利点は、ケース２０の内部コンパートメントがサイド間で通常よりも狭くなしうることである。この狭くした寸法は実質的な容器容積を犠牲にすることなしに実現される。衣服、例えば男性用スーツコートは、図３に示されているように垂直軸のまわりで折りたたまれてケース２０内に入れらるので、ケースの幅を狭くすることができ、したがって操作、収納および牽引をより容易にできる。ケースの背面領域２４内のコンパートメントは、平らにたたむことを必要としないで男性用スーツコートを吊り下げて入れるのに十分なだけの高さがあることが好ましい。しかし、ガーメントバッグのような他の形式のかばんでは、高さの低いコンパートメントに入れるためには、衣服を中間でもう一度折りたためばよい。図３にみられるように、ウォードローブケースの上方内部内に取り付けることができる本発明のトロリーアセンブリ３８およびハンガー４０を用いて衣類３２、３３をおりたたみかつ吊り下げる画期的な方法が可能である。トロリーアセンブリ３８およびハンガー４０が一緒になってケース20の閉じ込められた空間内に衣類を取り出し可能に固着するための手段として機能する。
本発明の折りたたみハンガーを全体的に示す図に注目されたい。全体として４０で示されている折りたたみハンガーは、若干可撓性で耐久性のある熱可塑性樹脂で作成されるのが好ましい。ハンガー４０は１対の剛直で全体として平面状の中央体部材４４、４５を有しており、それらの部材のそれぞれから、脚５０、５１のうちの関連するものが横方向に延長している。中央体部材４４、４５のそれぞれの上方部分から下方に所定の角度をなして肩部材４６、４７が延長して各関連した脚５０、５１と交差している。肩部材４６、４７および脚５０、５１のそれぞれが対応した肩部材の４４または４５の剛直な成形された延長部分となるように、肩部材４６、４７および脚５０、５１はそれらの関連する中央体部材４４、４５と一体化されていることが好ましい。各肩部材の末端部は、関連した肩部材の末端部と一体に成形されている。
図６-９に示されているように、中央体部材４４、４５は、好ましくは垂直に配置された体ヒンジ５４によって枢動可能に連結されている。体ヒンジ５４は、それのナックルを中央体部材４４、４５と一体に成形されていることが好ましく、図9の矢印で示されているように一方の中央体部材４５を他方の中央体部材４４に対して枢動させるようになされており、それにより図８、９（仮想線）に示されているように、ハンガー４０全体が垂直軸のまわりで折りたたまれて肩部材４６、４７と脚５０、５１を互いにほぼ平行な状態とする。好ましい実施例では、体ヒンジ５４は従来のピン・アンド・ナックル機構であるが、可撓性ファブリックあるいはプラスチック・リビング・ヒンジのような他のヒンジ形式でも本発明では十分であることはすぐ分かる。さらに、本発明の他の実施例では、中央体部材４４、４５を枢動可能に連結するために非垂直状態に配置された主体ヒンジ５４を用いることができる。したがって、ハンガー４０は、中央体部材４４、４５、肩部４６、４７および脚５０、５１が図５、７および９に示されているようにすべて実質的に同一平面関係となる開いた位置と、中央体部材４４、４５とそれらの関連する肩部および脚が図４、１２および１３に示唆されかつ図９に仮想線で示されているように互いに平行またはほぼ平行な状態にある折りたたまれたまたは閉じた位置との間で、垂直軸のまわりで折りたたみ可能であることが好ましい。
図４、５、７および８に最も良く示されているように、一方の中央体部材４４が他方の中央体部材４５よりも寸法的な広がりが大きいことが好ましいが、必要ではない。直角三角形状であることが好ましい小さい方の中央体部材４５は、それの垂直縁端部に配置されたヒンジ５４を有し、中央体部材４５の底に対して直角をなしている。二等辺三角形の形をしていることが好ましい大きい方の中央体部材４４は、小さい方の中央体部材４５の本質的に２倍の大きさである。体ヒンジ５４は大きい方の中央体部材４４の垂直対称軸に沿って配置されて、小さい方の中央体部材４５が、大きい方の中央体部材４５の半分と実質的に同一広がりの重複位置から枢動可能であるようになされることが好ましい。
この好ましい構成の利点は、ハンガー４０が折りたたまれて開いた位置となされた時に小さい方の中央体部材４５と大きい方の中央体部材４４の一方の半分との間に調和した重なりが与えられることである。この重なりは、中央体部材のうちの１つ（図面では中央体部材４４）から広がって他方の中央体部材（図示された中央体部材４５）を介して対応する開孔５９、５９’とスナップまたは摩擦係合する１つ以上のスナップ・タブ５８、５８’によって確保されることが好ましい。好ましくかつ完全に機能的な実施例、単一の対応開孔に挿通可能な単一の中央に配置されたタブを具備しうるが、図面に示されているように対をなした開孔とタブを用いることによって、二重に確実なスナップ式連結が得られる。図８に示されているように、タブ５８、５８’は大きい方の中央体部材４４の１つの縁端に沿って配置され、他方、開孔４４、４５は小さい方の中央体部材４５の斜辺に沿っていることが好ましい。中央体部材４４、４５が同一平面状態の完全に開いた位置に枢動されると、スナップ・タブ５８、５８’が開孔５９、５９’内の所定位置にスナップ式に入り込み、小さい方の中央体部材４５を大きい方の中央体部材４５に対接した同一平面関係の重なり合い状態に確実に保持する。このスナップ式に固着された重複構成は、重量を確実に担持する強力で一般に剛直なハンガーを提供し、このハンガーは不注意によるまたは偶発的な折りたたみまたは崩壊を受けにくいようになされている。ハンガー４０を折りたたんで閉じた位置にしたい場合には、小さい方の中央体部材４５を大きい方の中央体部材４４からしっかりと引き離して、開孔５９、５９’を通じてタブ５８、５８’を後方に引いて重複した連結を切り離すようにする。
図５-８に示されているように、ハンガー・フック６０はネック・ヒンジ６２によって中央体部材４４に枢動可能に連結されている。ネック・ヒンジ６２がハンガー・フック６０を図５および８に示された繰り出した位置と図７に示された引っ込めた位置との間で折りたためるようにする。繰り出した位置では、ハンガー・フック６０は中央体部材４４と実質的に同一平面関係にある。図６に矢印で示されてるように引っ込めた位置に枢動されると、ハンガー・フック６０は全体として中央体部材４４と平行になる。実際には、ハンガー４０が衣服を吊り下げるために開いた位置にある場合には、フック６０と中央体部材４４、４５が全体として同じ仮想平面内に含まれる。ハンガー４０が折りたたみ位置にある場合には、中央体部材４４、４５はそれらの間にサンドイッチになったフック６０とほぼ平行になる（図１２および１３）。
ハンガー・フック６０は中央体部材４４、４５と同じ材料で作成されかつ図５に示されているように従来の衣服クロゼットバー、衣服ラックロッド等にハンガー４０全体を吊るすことができるようにするために円形のまたは他の水平ロッドに係合し得る半円形内表面６３を設けられることが好ましい。したがって、ハンガー・フック６０によって、ハンガー４０は衣服を標準的のクロゼットに吊るすために用いることができる。ハンガー４０は衣服を通常のクロゼットに吊るすために繰り出した開いた位置で最も良く用いられるが、ハンガー・フック６０を衣服ロッド３０で使用するために広げた状態にして折りたたみ位置で使用するのは満足度が低いかもしれない。
図５、７、および８は、中央体部材４４、４５のうちの少なくとも一方、好ましくは両方のトップから支持アーム６５、６６が延長しており、それらの支持アームは、肩部材４６、４７と同様に、垂直軸に関して両側で対称であることを示している。また肩部材４６、４７のそれぞれと同様に、各支持アーム６５、６６は中央体部材４４、４５のうちの対応するものと一体化されて、各支持アームがそれの対応する体部材の剛直な延長部分となるようになされることが好ましい。各支持アーム６５、６６にはトロリー開孔６８、６８’および６９、６９’のうちの少なくとも１つ、好ましくは２が完全に貫通していることが好ましい。トロリー開孔６８、６８’、６９、６９’はトロリーロッド８２、８２’（図４）の横断面形状に対応した形状の、好ましくは丸い穴であり、それらの穴はアーム６５、６６の水平端部のそれぞれの近傍で支持アーム６５、６６のそれぞれを貫通している。支持アーム６５、６６および開孔６８、６８’、６９、６９’によってハンガー４０かばんの中に固定配置できるのであるが、これについてはさらに説明する。図４で最も良く示されているように、トロリー開孔６８、６８’、６９、６９’はトロリーロッド８２、８２’間の距離に実質的に等しい距離だけ離間されている。
このようにして、ハンガー４０は広げた衣服を通常の衣服ロッド３０に吊り下げるために使用できるが、このハンガーは特に、図３および４に全体的に示されているように閉じた位置にある時に画期的なトロリー・アセンブリ３８でかばんの中に吊り下げるようになされているのである。トロリー・アセンブリ３８はケース２０の背面領域２４の上方部分に取り付けられている。トロリー・アセンブリによって、たたんだ衣服３２がハンガー４０に確実に保持されうるとともに、ハンガー４０がしっかりとではあるが取り外し自在にケース２０に装着されうる。このようにして、たたんだ衣服３２を容易に、安全にかつしわを最小限に抑えてケース内に詰め込むことができる。
図４を参照する。１つの実施例では、トロリー・アセンブリ３８は１対の平行で離間したトロリー・ロッド８２、８２’を具備している。トロリー・ロッド８２、８２’のすぐ上にかつそれらと平行に、対応する対のラッチ・ロッド８４、８４’が配置されており、それのラッチ・ロッドが該当する対のスロット付きスイングラッチ８６、８６’を取り付けている。スイングラッチ８６、８６’はそれらの各位置においてラッチ・ロッド８４、８４’の長さ部分に固定されてもよく、あるいはロッド８４、８４’の長さに沿った種々の位置で調節可能に確保可能な位置決めをおこなうためにラッチ・ロッド８４、８４’に沿って摺動しうるようになされてもよい。ラッチ８６、８６’は水平軸のまわりで揺動または回転する。ラッチ８６、８６’は開いた位置（図４のラッチ８４’）と閉じた位置（その図のラッチ８４）の間で手動で枢動可能である。
図３および４が示すように、ハンガー４０はトロリー・ロッド８２、８２’に着脱可能に取り付けることが可能である。スイングラッチ８６、８６’は、両者が開いた位置にある場合に、ハンガー４０をトロリー・ロッド８２、８２’上の所定の位置にスリップさせることができる。ハンガー４０がトロリー・ロッド８２、８２’上にある状態で、ラッチ８６、８６’は下方に揺動されて閉じた位置となされる。ラッチ８６、８６’が閉じた位置にある時には、隣接したトロリー・ロッド８２がラッチのスロットを貫通して延長して、ラッチ（図４ではラッチ８６）がトロリー・ロッド８２を効果的に取り囲みまたは包囲してハンガーがロッド８２の端部から離れるように摺動するのを阻止する。
