【0001】

【0051】
【0052】
θα=sin-1(NF/na)
φe=Lo×NC
φe=fc×NC
【0082】
n(R)=n0×(1−A/2R2)
【0083】
【0084】

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
The present invention irradiates an information recording medium such as an optical disc with the light of a semiconductor laser, thereby recording information on the recording surface of the information recording medium or information written on the recording surface of the information recording medium. The present invention relates to an optical pickup device for reproduction.
[0002]
[Prior art]
In recent years, in the field of information recording, research on optical information recording methods has been promoted in various places. The optical information recording system has a number of advantages such as non-contact recording and playback, and compatibility with playback-only, write-once, and rewritable memory formats, and realizes inexpensive large-capacity media. A wide range of applications from industrial use to consumer use is considered.
[0003]
The recent trends regarding these optical information recording / reproducing systems are as follows: 1) Increasing the information recording capacity per unit area in an optical disc that has already become a de facto standard, such as a 120 mm diameter disc such as a CD or DVD. 2) There are two coordinate axes that do not reduce the information recording capacity per unit area and reduce the size of the optical disc and the optical disc recording / reproducing apparatus, and research has been actively conducted in recent years.
[0004]
In order to realize the above 1), in recent years, research and development of a short wavelength light source such as a blue semiconductor laser and an optical pickup with a reduced condensing spot diameter using an objective lens having a numerical aperture of 0.8 or more have been actively conducted. Has been done. Since this optical pickup has a smaller spot size than an optical pickup used for recording / reproduction of a conventional CD or DVD, a signal fluctuation amount with respect to increase / decrease in the spot size becomes larger.
[0005]
Since information recording on the recording medium is performed by a phase change due to heat of the focused spot, the phase change region greatly fluctuates due to the power fluctuation of the light source. That is, when the power of the light source becomes larger than the predetermined value, the spot size increases, so the phase change area increases. On the contrary, when the power of the light source becomes smaller than the predetermined value, the spot size becomes smaller and the phase change area decreases. .
[0006]
Therefore, in order to stably record and reproduce information on such an optical disc, it is necessary that the amount of light emitted from a light source such as a semiconductor laser is stable. In order to achieve this, the optical pickup adopts a method in which the amount of light from the light source is accurately monitored by the light receiving element for power monitoring, and then the amount of light from the light source is controlled according to the amount of received light monitored. There is. This control method is called auto power control (APC), and a light receiving element used for this control is called an APC light receiving element.

As described above, in the optical pickup device described in

Further, when the
[0014]
The present invention has been made in view of the above problems, and an object of the present invention is to provide an optical pickup apparatus that can avoid the influence of stray light generated in the apparatus and perform more accurate power monitor control. .
[0015]
[Means for Solving the Problems]
In order to solve the above-described problem, an optical pickup device of the present invention includes a light source, a light branching element that splits light emitted from the light source in two directions, and one of the light split by the light branching element. A power monitor light-receiving element that enters and detects the intensity of the light, an objective lens that receives the other light split by the light branching element and focuses the light on an optical recording medium, and the objective In an optical pickup device including a signal detection light receiving element that receives reflected light from the optical recording medium of light collected by a lens, between the power monitor light receiving element and the light branching element, An optical fiber for guiding the light from the light source to the power monitoring light receiving element and a coating covering the periphery of the optical fiber are provided.
[0016]
The optical pickup device of the present invention is mounted on an optical disc device or the like and records and reproduces information on an optical recording medium. In order to stabilize the amount of light emitted from the light source, power monitor control is performed. It has a function. In order to perform the power monitor control, the optical pickup device includes a power monitor light receiving element that monitors the amount of light from the light source. The power monitoring light receiving element receives one light out of the light split in two directions by the light branching element that splits the light from the light source, and detects the intensity (light quantity) of the light.
[0017]
An optical fiber is provided between the power monitor light receiving element and the light branching element, and light dispersed by the light branching element is guided to the power monitor light receiving element through the optical fiber. The optical fiber is further provided with a coating covering its outer periphery.
[0018]
According to said structure, the emitted light from a light source can be reliably transmitted to the light receiving element for power monitors with an optical fiber, and the stray light generated in an apparatus is covered by the circumference | surroundings of an optical fiber being covered. Can be avoided reliably. As a result, the output power of the light source can be accurately detected by the power monitoring light-receiving element, and more accurate power monitor control can be performed.
[0019]
Further, when it is necessary to make the distance between the optical branching element and the power monitoring light receiving element close to ensure the coupling efficiency in the conventional power monitoring light receiving element, as in the present invention, the optical fiber and its By providing the covering covering the periphery, it is not necessary to make the distance between the two members close to each other. Therefore, the amount of light coupled to the power monitoring light receiving element can be secured with a normal housing shape (that is, a housing shape having no constriction at the position where the power monitoring light receiving element is installed). As a result, it is possible to avoid the resonance frequency characteristics of the housing from being impaired during the optical pickup operation.
[0020]
The optical pickup device further includes a collimating lens that is disposed between the light source and the objective lens, and collimates the light emitted from the light source. The numerical aperture of the optical fiber is NF, and the collimating lens When the numerical aperture is NC, it is preferable that NF ≦ NC.
[0021]
According to the above configuration, since the numerical aperture of the optical fiber is equal to or less than the numerical aperture of the collimating lens, only the light that enters the effective diameter of the collimating lens and is used for recording / reproduction of the optical recording medium is received. The light that is not related to the recording / reproducing of the optical recording medium such as stray light can be effectively removed. Thereby, the accuracy of power monitor control in the optical pickup device can be further improved.
[0022]
In the optical pickup device, the coating is preferably made of a material that absorbs light emitted from the light source.
[0023]
According to the above configuration, since the fiber coating absorbs stray light, stray light entering the optical fiber can be removed. As a result, the power monitor control can be more reliably performed.
[0024]
The optical pickup device further includes a collimating lens that is disposed between the light source and the objective lens and collimates the light emitted from the light source, and in the optical fiber, the side on which light from the light source is incident Φc ≦ φe ≦ φo, where φe is the effective luminous flux diameter of the light at the end of the optical fiber, and φc is the fiber core diameter φc in the cross section perpendicular to the optical transmission direction of the optical fiber. Preferably there is.
[0025]
According to the above configuration, only the light beam used for recording / reproduction is coupled to the core portion of the optical fiber, and the light irradiated outside the core is absorbed by the coating provided around the optical fiber. Therefore, only light used for recording / reproduction, which should be detected by power monitor control, is coupled to the power monitoring light-receiving element and stray light is removed, so that only significant light output is accurately detected. Therefore, more accurate power monitor control can be realized.
[0026]
Here, “effective light beam diameter of light at the end on which light from the light source is incident: φe” means that among the light emitted from the light source, the effective aperture of the collimator lens is transmitted through the light branching element. This is the diameter of the light entering the inside.
[0027]
In the optical fiber, it is preferable that an end on the side facing the light receiving element for power monitoring is a tip lens.
[0028]
According to said structure, it becomes possible to condense on the light-receiving surface of the light-receiving element for power monitors, and can increase the light-receiving light quantity in the said light-receiving surface, without increasing a number of parts. This makes it possible to accurately detect the emission power of the light source even for a light source output that is relatively small, such as a recent blue semiconductor laser.
[0029]
Furthermore, in the optical fiber, it is preferable that an end surface on the side where light from the light source enters is inclined with respect to the light branching element.
[0030]
According to said structure, an optical path can be bent about the incident light which injects into an optical fiber, and the return light reflected by the light receiving element for power monitors via the optical fiber. This prevents the incident light and the return light from being detected by the light receiving element for signal detection via the optical branching element, and improves the signal sensitivity when detecting the RF signal and the focus / tracking servo signal. Can do.
[0031]
The optical fiber is a refractive index distribution type optical fiber. When the meandering period length of the refractive index distribution type optical fiber is P and the fiber length of the refractive index distribution type optical fiber is H, P and Between the above H,
n × (P / 2) <H <(n + 1/2) × (P / 2) (n is a positive integer)
It is preferable that this relationship is established.
[0032]
According to said structure, it becomes possible to condense on the light-receiving surface of the light-receiving element for power monitors, and can increase the light-receiving light quantity in the said light-receiving surface, without increasing a number of parts. This makes it possible to accurately detect the emission power of the light source even for a light source output that is relatively small, such as a recent blue semiconductor laser.
[0033]
It is preferable that the end of the optical fiber on the side facing the power monitoring light receiving element and the power monitoring light receiving element have shapes that can be fitted to each other.
[0034]
The “shape that can be fitted to each other” means that, for example, a convex portion is provided on one of the end portion of the optical fiber and the surface of the power monitoring light-receiving element facing the optical fiber. On the other hand, a concave portion that fits with the convex portion is provided.
[0035]
According to the above configuration, the relative positioning between the optical fiber and the power monitoring light receiving element is facilitated, and the positioning adjustment of the power monitoring light receiving element when the optical pickup device is assembled is simplified. As a result, it is possible to reduce process time and reduce costs during mass production.

【The invention's effect】
As described above, in the optical pickup device of the present invention, one of the light source, the light branching element that splits the light emitted from the light source in two directions, and the light split by the light branching element is incident. A light-receiving element for power monitoring that detects the intensity of light, the other light that is split by the light branching element, and an objective lens that focuses the light on an optical recording medium; In the optical pickup device comprising the signal detection light receiving element that receives the reflected light of the reflected light from the optical recording medium, between the power monitoring light receiving element and the light branching element, the light from the light source An optical fiber for guiding light to the power monitoring light receiving element and a coating covering the periphery of the optical fiber are provided.
[0096]
According to said structure, the emitted light from a light source can be reliably transmitted to the light receiving element for power monitors with an optical fiber, and the stray light generated in an apparatus is covered by the circumference | surroundings of an optical fiber being covered. Can be avoided reliably. As a result, it is possible to accurately detect the emission power of the light source by the power monitoring light-receiving element, and it is possible to perform power monitor control with higher accuracy.
[0097]
Further, when it is necessary to make the distance between the optical branching element and the power monitoring light receiving element close to ensure the coupling efficiency in the conventional power monitoring light receiving element, as in the present invention, the optical fiber and its By providing the covering covering the periphery, it is not necessary to make the distance between the two members close to each other. Therefore, the amount of light coupled to the power monitoring light receiving element can be secured with a normal housing shape (that is, a housing shape having no constriction at the position where the power monitoring light receiving element is installed). As a result, there is another effect that the resonance frequency characteristic of the housing can be avoided during the optical pickup operation.
