Description
【0001】

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to a sealant that interposes a fitting portion between a battery outer can and a gasket in which the outer can and a sealing plate are sealed with a gasket.
[0002]
[Prior art]
Since non-aqueous electrolyte batteries use lithium ions as an active material, strict moisture is required for power generation elements such as positive electrodes and negative electrodes, not electrolytic solutions. For this reason, dew point management in the process and reduction of the moisture content of the constituent elements are indispensable measures. Hereinafter, an example of a problem caused by moisture mixing and countermeasures will be described.
[0003]
In a non-aqueous electrolyte battery, if water is present in the battery, the potential is high, so that the water is decomposed during charging, and gases such as hydrogen and oxygen are generated. As a result, gas adheres to the surface of the electrode, causing not only a reduction in the electrode area contributing to the electrochemical reaction, but also an increase in the interelectrode distance due to the increase in internal pressure due to the generated gas and the resulting expansion of the battery. As a result, the internal resistance rises, and there is a problem that the initial high rate characteristic is lowered. Furthermore, hydrofluoric acid is generated by the reaction between the electrolytic solution and moisture, and a problem arises in that the electrochemical reaction is inhibited to form a film on the electrode surface and the discharge characteristics are greatly deteriorated. In order to suppress the occurrence of these problems, in the step of preparing and kneading the active material paste of the positive electrode plate and the negative electrode plate and applying to the current collector, a prescription using an organic solvent as the dispersion medium or a predetermined temperature Measures are taken to keep it in a dry state. In addition, efforts have been made to control the amount of water in the electrolyte or to perform the assembly process in dry air.
[0004]
[Problems to be solved by the invention]
In the assembly process of the nonaqueous electrolyte battery, the electrolyte solution is injected into the outer can after the sealant is applied. This is because the sealing solution deteriorates when the electrolyte adheres to the inner surface of the opening end of the outer can where the sealing agent is applied, so the sealing agent application step is performed prior to the electrolyte injection step. This is because it is implemented. Since such a process sequence is adopted, there is a possibility that water remains in the sealant and is mixed into the electrolytic solution.
[0005]
However, in the above conventional process management, the sealant performs moisture management equivalent to the constituent elements other than the power generation elements such as the sealing plate and the gasket, and does not perform a special drying process. This is because the amount of water required is reduced in response to the reduced amount of moisture, and the amount of moisture has been managed for each battery component so as to achieve both cost and battery performance. .
[0006]
In recent years, non-aqueous electrolyte batteries have responded to the demand for higher energy density from the market by filling power generating elements with higher density and increasing electrolyte concentration. For this reason, even though the same measures as those in the conventional process management are implemented, the influence due to the mixing of moisture has been remarkably recognized. For this reason, when a sealant with a large amount of moisture is used, problems such as an increase in the amount of gas generated and an increase in battery thickness are caused, and the initial characteristics and discharge characteristics of the battery are impaired.
[0007]
In view of such conventional problems, the present invention improves the initial characteristics of the battery by suppressing elution of moisture from the sealant into the electrolytic solution by using a pre-dried sealant. It is intended.
[0008]
[Means for Solving the Problems]
In order to achieve the above object, the non-aqueous electrolyte battery of the present invention contains a power generation element, and an opening of an outer can that is open at the top is sealed with a sealing plate via a gasket, It has a configuration in which a sealant is interposed on the surface where the gasket and the outer can are in contact, and is characterized in that the amount of water contained in the sealant before application is set to 200 ppm or less.
[0009]
It is desirable that the sealant before coating is subjected to a drying treatment in dry air at normal pressure or reduced pressure, or a drying treatment in a dry air under reduced pressure and in a temperature environment higher than normal temperature. These treatments are aimed at reducing the amount of water in the sealant, and it is preferable to carry out the blending process in dry air also in the blending step of blending the constituents of the sealant. The specific material name of the sealant is preferably at least one selected from the group consisting of coal tar pitch, straight asphalt pitch, and blown asphalt pitch.
[0010]
In this way, by using a sealant that has been dried in advance and adjusted to a water content of 200 ppm or less, there is no elution of moisture from the sealant into the electrolyte solution, and the decomposition reaction or electrolysis of moisture in the electrolyte solution is eliminated. Reaction between liquid and moisture can be suppressed. Thereby, suppression of gas generation amount and increase in internal resistance due to battery swelling can be suppressed, and the initial characteristics of the battery can be improved. However, as the amount of water is reduced, the cost required for the treatment process and management increases. Therefore, considering the effect of reducing the amount of water and the increase in the cost, the preferable range of the amount of water is 50 ppm to 200 ppm.

[0039]
The batteries of Example 1 and Comparative Example 1 were charged at 20 ° C., the current value for charging and discharging the nominal capacity in 1 hour was 1 C current, charged at 0.2 C constant current at a charge end voltage of 4.2 V for 2 hours, The gas generation amount at that time was defined as the initial gas generation amount. Further, the capacities at 0.2 C current and 2 C current were 0.2 C capacity and 2 C capacity, respectively.
[0040]
(Discharge capacity at 2C current / discharge capacity at 0.2C current) in each battery was calculated and set as a ratio of 2C capacity to 0.2C capacity. Table 2 shows the initial gas generation amount, 2C capacity to 0.2C capacity ratio.

[0042]
From Table 2, the encapsulant was dried in advance before application, and the amount of water in the encapsulant was reduced to 200 ppm or less, whereby the amount of initial gas generated could be suppressed and the initial characteristics could be improved. This is to reduce the moisture content of the sealant to 200 ppm or less, thereby preventing the elution of moisture from the sealant into the electrolyte solution, the decomposition reaction of moisture in the electrolyte solution, and the reaction between the electrolyte solution and moisture. This is considered to suppress the increase in internal resistance due to the amount of gas generation and battery swelling, thereby improving the initial characteristics of the battery.
[0043]
Moreover, although the blown asphalt pitch is used in this embodiment, the present invention is not limited to this, and the same result can be obtained by using a coal tar pitch, a straight asphalt pitch, or the like. Furthermore, although the said Example is related with a cylindrical battery, this invention is applied also to batteries of various shapes, such as a square shape, a prismatic shape, and a coin shape, and is not limited to the material of an armored can.
[0044]
【The invention's effect】
As described above, according to the present invention, by performing a drying step on the sealant in advance and reducing the amount of water in the sealant to 200 ppm or less, the amount of generated initial gas can be suppressed, and the initial characteristics are excellent. A non-aqueous electrolyte battery can be obtained.
