BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to a liquid crystal display device with an image reading function including an active matrix panel provided with a light receiving element such as a thin film transistor (TFT) and a photodiode and a liquid crystal layer, and image reading using such a liquid crystal display device. It is about the method.
[0002]
[Prior art]
In recent years, in order to reduce the size of an image display device, a display device using a liquid crystal is often used. In particular, a liquid crystal display device including an active matrix panel having a TFT is compared with a simple matrix liquid crystal display device. Since high image quality can be easily obtained, it has been actively researched.
[0003]
On the other hand, in order to reduce the size of a document image reading device, the document is brought into close contact with a two-dimensionally arranged image sensor so that the image can be read without using the scanning mechanism of the document or the sensor unit. Things are known.
[0004]
Further, by combining an image display device and a reading device as described above to display an image and read an original image or the like to obtain image data, the entire device can be reduced in size and operability. Some improvements have been proposed.
[0005]
Specifically, in this type of device, as disclosed in, for example, Japanese Patent Laid-Open No. 4-282609, an image sensor is provided on the back side of a transparent substrate on which a TFT and a transparent pixel electrode are formed in a liquid crystal display device. The formed transparent substrate is arranged.
[0006]
Further, an apparatus capable of displaying and reading a color image includes a white light backlight source and a micro color filter in which a region that transmits red, green, or blue light is formed for each pixel. A color image is displayed by controlling the light transmittance, and a color image is read by detecting the amount of light of each color reflected from the document. That is, display of one pixel of a predetermined color (hereinafter referred to as “color pixel”) by combining three pixels of red, green, and blue (hereinafter, each pixel is referred to as “single pixel”). And reading is done.
[0007]
[Problems to be solved by the invention]
In general, the read image often requires a higher pixel density than the display image.
[0008]
However, in the case of an apparatus that reads a color image with a micro color filter, image data of one color pixel can be obtained by combining three single pixels of red, green, and blue as described above. There is a problem that a color image cannot be read at a density. Further, since only the light of the color transmitted through the micro color filter is used for display and illumination of the original, it is necessary to increase the light emission amount of the backlight light source in order to increase the amount of light. Therefore, in addition to an increase in manufacturing cost due to the provision of the micro color filter, there is a problem that power consumption is increased.
[0009]
An object of the present invention is to provide a liquid crystal display device with an image reading function capable of obtaining a high reading pixel density and reducing the manufacturing cost and power consumption.
[0010]
The liquid crystal display device with an image reading function of the present invention includes a pixel electrode, A source line for transmitting an image signal, a gate line provided in a direction crossing the source line, and a first TFT for connecting and disconnecting the source line and the pixel electrode according to the scanning signal When, A light receiving element provided corresponding to each pixel electrode for detecting the amount of light reflected from the document; A second TFT for connecting and disconnecting the source line and the light receiving element in response to the scanning signal; A counter electrode provided to face the pixel electrode; a liquid crystal provided between the pixel electrode and the counter electrode; Is provided. The threshold voltages of the first and second TFTs are different, and the first and second TFTs and the light receiving element are formed at the same time. The liquid crystal display device with an image reading function further includes a plurality of back light sources that emit light of different colors, and when the image is displayed, the respective back light sources are selectively turned on sequentially, and the images of the respective colors are time-divided. By displaying the color image, when reading the image, the respective back light sources are selectively turned on sequentially to irradiate the light of each color onto the document and detect the amount of reflected light of each color from the document. Thus, a color image is read.
[0011]
As a result, the amount of reflected light can be detected by irradiating the document with light of a plurality of colors for each pixel, so that a color image can be read with a high pixel density. In addition, since it is not necessary to provide a color filter, the manufacturing cost can be reduced, and the light from the back light source is not attenuated by the color filter. You can also
