Description
【0001】

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
In the present invention, fuel from at least one pump is supplied from a low pressure region to a high pressure region, a pressure in the high pressure region is controlled by at least one pressure control means, and a pressure sensor detects a pressure value in the high pressure region. The present invention relates to a fuel supply system leakage identification method and apparatus in an internal combustion engine with a high-pressure fuel injection device such as a joint injection system.
[0002]
[Prior art]
In an automobile equipped with an internal combustion engine, fuel is supplied from a fuel tank to a fuel injection valve via a fuel conduit using an electric pump. Excess fuel is usually returned to the fuel tank via a return conduit. In particular, in the case of an internal combustion engine with a high-pressure fuel injection device such as a self-ignition internal combustion engine, another pump that forms a very high pressure in the high-pressure region is connected to the fuel pump. This high pressure region is connected to the fuel injection valve.
[0003]
In this type of fuel supply system, there is a risk that fuel will always be injected into the corresponding combustion chamber if the valve or injection nozzle is defective. There is also a possibility of fuel leakage to the outside. In this case, fuel under high pressure leaks into the engine room. Thus, for example, from German Patent Application No. 3126393, there is a means for continuously measuring the pressure in the high pressure region of the fuel injection system and deriving the leak identification from the pressure drop in the accumulator below a predetermined value. It is known. Under such circumstances, the fuel is always injected into the engine. Therefore, in the known apparatus, the engine is shut off or the fuel supply is cut after the leakage is identified.
[0004]
[Problems to be solved by the invention]
An object of the present invention is to make an improvement in order to eliminate the disadvantages of the conventional apparatus as described above.
[0005]
[Means for Solving the Problems]
According to the present invention, at least one of the pressure control means is controlled to increase to an expected value of pressure in a state where no leakage has occurred, according to the present invention,
If the detected pressure value does not reach the expected pressure value in a state where no leakage occurs within a predetermined period, the leakage is identified.

The advantages obtained by the invention as set forth in the characterizing parts of

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
FIG. 1 shows components necessary for explaining the present invention in a fuel supply system in an internal combustion engine with a high-pressure fuel injection device. The illustrated system is generally called a joint injection system.

[0016]
This type of system can also leak. In this case, the fuel from the high pressure region under high pressure reaches on the one hand the internal combustion engine via the injector and also leaks into the engine room of the vehicle via the leak point. Such injectors in the engine room or injectors that do not operate correctly must be reliably identified. In particular, it is important to reliably identify leaks during a new start after shutting off the internal combustion engine.
[0017]
Therefore, according to the present invention, after the starter is actuated, it is checked whether the pressure has reached the first pressure threshold within a first predetermined period. If not, there is virtually no system leak or the fuel metering system must be vented. Subsequently, an inquiry is made as to whether the pressure has risen to a second pressure threshold within the second period. In this case as well, an error bit indicating the occurrence of leakage is set when the pressure does not rise to the second pressure threshold value. If the pressure is rising, a change to the normal start program is made.
[0018]
It is particularly advantageous to check only if an error bit indicating the presence of a leak is set. This error bit is set during normal operation if a leak is identified. The inspection in such a case is performed only if a leak is identified during the preceding operation. This, on the other hand, avoids a new start if the leak has not yet been removed, and allows this if the leak has been removed.
[0019]
Advantageously, the defective bit is set before the first start of operation or after the maintenance to start a test routine for checking for leaks at the time of service or first start of operation. In this case, special data are selected, i.e. special time thresholds and pressure thresholds.
[0020]
If the inspection is performed at each start-up, ie without relying on the defective bit F, the time threshold is selected correspondingly short.
[0021]
According to the present invention, when the internal combustion engine is started, the pressure control means is controlled so that the pressure rises without leakage. If the pressure does not increase as expected, a leak is identified.
[0022]
Next, the method of the present invention will be described based on the flowchart of FIG. In the

The check is performed only when the error bit is set. That is, it occurs only when a single leak is identified during the preceding operating period. In such a case, for example, the following values are selected for the threshold. That is, for example, a time of 2 seconds is selected for the first time threshold S1, and a time of 1 second is selected for the second time threshold S2. For example, 200 bar is selected for the pressure threshold value P1, and 1000 bar is selected for the second pressure threshold value P2.
[0028]
A test is particularly preferably carried out at each start-up. That is, the
[0029]
Particularly advantageously, the error bit F is set to 1 and at the same time a hard threshold is set before the first start of operation of the internal combustion engine. This means that the time threshold is chosen smaller and / or the pressure threshold is chosen higher. This allows the inspection conditions to be adapted to the maintenance characteristics. This means that it is performed at the start of the first operation and / or at each start after maintenance.
[0030]
If an emergency shutdown of the diesel engine is performed based on the defect, a new start of the internal combustion engine is possible in the presence of predetermined conditions. In the event of an emergency shutdown based on internal leakage, restarting the internal combustion engine may cause significant damage to the internal combustion engine. In such a case, it is impossible to restart the internal combustion engine.
[0031]
In the event of an emergency shutdown based on leakage in the low pressure region, the internal combustion engine should be allowed to restart.
[0032]
According to the present invention, the following is performed. That is, the pressure control valve and / or the high-pressure pump is controlled to increase the pressure at the time of starting. During the starting process, the controller monitors pressure build-up. The control device compares the measured pressure build value with the theoretical pressure build value calculated by the control device. This theoretically achieved pressure value calculation is based on the most inconvenient assumptions regarding the efficiency of the high pressure pump and the elastic modulus of the fuel.
[0033]
If the fuel pressure achieved within the predetermined waiting time is greater than the calculated theoretical value, there is no leakage. If no pressure buildup takes place, there is a leak or pressure buildup is delayed based on defects in the low region.
[0034]
To identify whether a leak has occurred or the fuel tank is empty, the following is done. That is, the rail pressure continues to be monitored, and a new calculation of the pressure rise and a new comparison with the expected pressure value is made from the time the pressure rise is identified.
[0035]
In addition or alternatively, the rotational speed is monitored. Because no fuel injection is performed, no further monitoring of the rotational speed increase is allowed. Optionally, the rotational speed can be monitored up to the maximum starting rotational speed.
[0036]
The corresponding method steps are shown in a flowchart in FIG. Initially, in the
[0037]
After the elapse of the waiting time ts, an expected value PS for the pressure in the rail is calculated in
[0038]
[0039]
In this case the E represents the modulus of elasticity of the fuel, the Q represents a current capacity corresponding to the discharge capacity of the high pressure pump, wherein V represents the volume product of the rail. The current capacity Q is formed from the discharge output of the high-pressure pump by multiplication with the pump speed depending on the speed N.
[0040]
The expected value PS for the pressure in the rail can be set depending on the characteristics of the fuel and / or the high-pressure pump and / or the capacity (V) of the relay and / or the rotational speed N of the internal combustion engine. In this case, one or all of the parameters can be considered.
[0041]
In
[0042]
When the pressure is not larger than the expected pressure value PS, that is, when the pressure PI is equal to or lower than the expected value PS, various causes can be considered. One could be the presence of a leak and the other could be an empty fuel tank. The expected pressure value cannot be achieved if the fuel tank is empty.
[0043]
In order to distinguish such cases, the following steps are performed. In other words, following the
