Description
【0001】

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to a foreign matter removing mechanism for removing foreign matter remaining on an image carrier in a sub-photographic printing apparatus.
[0002]
[Prior art]
In an electrophotographic printing apparatus (image forming apparatus), a photosensitive drum (image carrier) is usually charged and exposed to form an electrostatic latent image, which is then developed with toner to form a toner image. Form. Then, printing is performed by transferring the toner image onto a sheet (transfer material).
[0003]
Note that the developer used in such a printing apparatus is roughly classified into a one-component type and a two-component type.
The two-component developer contains a carrier made of a magnetic material such as Fe (iron) or ferrite in addition to the toner, and the chargeability can be adjusted by changing the mixing ratio of the carrier and the toner. Further, it is excellent in reproducibility of development characteristics and gradation of fine lines and solid images, and is suitable for forming color images.
[0004]
On the other hand, the one-component developer is composed only of toner. When such a developer is used, there is an advantage that it is not necessary to mix and agitate the toner with the carrier, and it is unnecessary to control the toner density and to replace the toner.
[0005]
By the way, in an electrophotographic printing apparatus, when a toner image is transferred to a sheet, the toner image may not be completely transferred and may remain on the photosensitive drum. It adheres and accumulates on the charging roller that charges the drum.
When residual toner accumulates on the charging roller, the charging characteristics of the charging roller deteriorate and an abnormal discharge occurs. The abnormal discharge causes uneven charging of the photosensitive drum and image fog (a black spot with respect to an unexposed portion (a portion that should remain white)).
[0006]
FIGS. 11A and 11B show results when copying (copying) is executed by a printing apparatus in which residual toner on the charging roller is not removed by cleaning. Here, FIG. 11A is an explanatory diagram showing a document image, and FIG. 11B is an explanatory diagram showing an image generated by copying.
As shown in these drawings, if the residual toner on the charging roller is not removed, a black spot is generated in a white background portion of the image, and the influence of the black spot increases as the use frequency of the printing apparatus increases.
[0007]
Further, FIGS. 12A to 12H are explanatory diagrams showing how black spots are generated with respect to the use frequency (number of copies) when the residual toner on the charging roller is not removed. As shown in these figures, it can be seen that the influence of black spots increases as the number of copies increases.
[0008]
Table 4 is a table showing the relationship between the number of printed sheets (P) and the fog value K when the residual toner on the charging roller is removed by cleaning and when it is not removed. FIG. Is a graph of the value of.
The fog value K is “K = 1−U / U. 0 , U: Lightness, U 0 : Initial brightness ”formula.
[0009]
[Table 4]
[0010]
In order to prevent such image fogging, conventionally, a cleaning blade is brought into contact with the photosensitive drum, whereby residual toner is scraped off and removed from the photosensitive drum before adhering to the charging roller.
However, scraping off with such a blade leaves a small amount of residual toner. For this reason, the residual toner is eventually accumulated on the charging roller as the printing amount increases.
[0011]
In order to solve such a problem of fogging due to residual toner accumulated on the charging roller, for example, Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open No. H10-228667 discloses an air flow near the closest position between the charging roller (non-contact type) and the photosensitive drum. A technique for providing an air flow generating device for generating the air is disclosed.
In this technique, when the charging roller becomes dirty with residual toner, the residual toner on the charging roller is removed by air flow (air blow) and returned to the photosensitive drum.

[Problems to be solved by the invention]
However, the technique of
In the technique of
[0016]
The present invention has been made to solve the conventional problems as described above. An object of the present invention is to provide a foreign matter removing mechanism of a printing apparatus that can avoid the influence of foreign matter accumulated on the charging roller and prevent foreign matter from being caught between the charging roller and the photosensitive drum. is there.
[0017]
[Means for Solving the Problems]
In order to achieve the above object, the foreign matter removing mechanism (the present removing mechanism) of the present invention is a foreign matter removing mechanism for removing foreign matter remaining on an image carrier in an electrophotographic printing apparatus. The image bearing member is charged by a charging bias, and the surface of the charging roller is removed by removing the foreign matter adsorbed on the charging roller. And a cleaning unit for cleaning.
[0018]
This removal mechanism is used in an electrophotographic printing apparatus employed in a copying machine, a printer, a facsimile machine, and the like.
In such a printing apparatus, the surface of the rotating image carrier is charged and exposed to form an electrostatic latent image, and the latent image is developed with a developer (toner or the like) to be a visible image (toner image or the like). Form. The visible image is transferred to a sheet (such as recording paper).
The removal mechanism is for removing foreign matter (mainly developer) remaining on the image carrier after transfer of the visible image.
[0019]
As described above, the removal mechanism includes the charging roller of the printing apparatus and the foreign matter removal mechanism.
The charging roller is provided so as to face the image carrier at a predetermined interval (charging gap), and a predetermined charging bias is applied thereto. Originally, in the printing process of the printing apparatus, the surface of the image carrier in the charging area is charged by the charging bias.
[0020]
Note that the charging area is an area where air discharge occurs between the charging roller and the image carrier (for example, obtained by substituting the maximum value of the voltage applied to the charging roller into the Pasche's empirical formula. Is possible).
[0021]
In this removing mechanism, the charging roller uses the charging bias to attract foreign matter (foreign matter charged with a polarity opposite to that of the charging bias) to the charging roller.
That is, in this removal mechanism, the charging roller has a foreign matter removal function in addition to the charging function. For this reason, it is not necessary to provide a special member (such as a cleaning blade) for removing foreign substances from the image carrier. Therefore, the manufacturing cost can be reduced.
[0022]
The foreign matter that can be removed by the charging bias is determined by the charging bias, the foreign matter, the charging polarity and the charge amount of the image carrier.
That is, the foreign matter that can be removed by the charging bias mainly has an attractive force to the charging roller that is superior to the attractive force to the image carrier when the charged bias is applied.
[0023]
In particular, in the present removal mechanism, the charging roller is set to rotate against the image carrier.
Here, the charging roller is rotated in the opposite direction means that the charging roller rotates in the same direction as the image carrier. In this case, the charging roller and the image carrier are moved in opposite directions in the charging region (the surface of the charging roller and the surface of the image carrier move so as to pass each other).
Therefore, in this removal mechanism, the foreign material on the image carrier is attracted to the charging roller at the position where it enters the charging area, and is moved away from the charging area as the charging roller rotates.
[0024]
As a result, in this removal mechanism, foreign matter on the image carrier can be prevented from passing through the charging region (charging gap), and this can be prevented from biting into the charging gap (and damaging the image carrier and charging roller). .
[0025]
Further, since no foreign matter remains in the charging area, the foreign matter does not hinder charging. Therefore, generation of an uncharged portion of the image carrier due to the presence of foreign matter can be prevented.
[0026]
In addition, since the entry of foreign matter into the charging gap can be prevented, it is not necessary to widen the charging gap in accordance with a large size foreign matter, so that the charging gap can be narrowed. In addition, by narrowing the gap of the charging gap in this way, the charging bias can be lowered as is apparent from the “Pasche's empirical formula” indicating the discharge start voltage in the air discharge. Further, it is possible to reduce the size of the removal mechanism or the printing apparatus.
[0027]
Note that when the charging roller and the image carrier rotate with each other (when rotating in opposite directions), the charging roller passes through the charging area while holding the removed foreign matter. However, on the downstream side of the charging area (downstream side for the image carrier), the surface potential of the image carrier is charged to substantially the same potential as the charging bias (DC component), so the foreign matter adsorption force of the image carrier However, it is not so different from the charging roller. Therefore, in the width rotation, the ability to electrostatically collect foreign matter from the image carrier is greatly reduced.
[0028]
On the other hand, in this removal mechanism, since the rotation is against the rotation, the charging roller removes the foreign matter from the image carrier on the upstream side of the charging region (the side on which the foreign matter enters the charging region). For this reason, the influence of the adsorption force of the image carrier can be avoided.
[0029]
Further, in this removal mechanism, since the charging roller rotates against the image carrier, the relative running between the surface of the charging roller (charged surface) and the surface of the image carrier (charged surface) in the charging area. The distance can be expanded.
For this reason, since charging fluctuations due to partial resistance value fluctuations of the charging roller can be suppressed, charging characteristics (charging uniformity) in the image carrier can be improved.
[0030]
In this removal mechanism, since the charging roller rotates against the image carrier, a roller surface that newly becomes a charging surface enters the charging region from the downstream side of the charging region.
[0031]
Therefore, even when a voltage drop occurs due to the charging of the capacitive component inside the charging roller itself along with the charging operation to the image carrier, it is possible to alleviate the decrease in the image carrier charging potential due to the internal voltage drop.
Further, on the downstream side of the charging region, the surface potential of the image carrier increases with the progress of charging. For this reason, as the surface potential increases, the charging current density (relative to the area) also decreases, thereby acting to alleviate the decrease in the charging potential of the image carrier due to the voltage drop due to the resistance component inside the charging roller.
[0032]
This effect is particularly remarkable when the resistance value of the charging roller is high. That is, when the resistance of the charging roller is high, a voltage drop due to charging of the capacitive component and a voltage drop due to the resistance component become remarkable, and it is difficult to raise the image carrier to a normal charging potential.
[0033]
In particular, the removal mechanism includes a cleaning unit that removes foreign matter adsorbed on the charging roller and cleans the surface of the charging roller.
As a result, foreign matter can be prevented from accumulating on the charging roller, so that deterioration of charging characteristics and abnormal discharge of the charging roller due to foreign matter can be prevented, and the charging property can be stabilized. Accordingly, it is possible to avoid the occurrence of image quality degradation such as image fogging.
In addition, since the foreign matter once removed by the charging roller can be prevented from returning to the image carrier, image deterioration due to such foreign matter can be avoided.
In addition, if a printing apparatus including the above-described removal mechanism is configured, printing with less image quality deterioration can be performed.
[0034]
Moreover, in this removal mechanism, it is preferable that the cleaning unit has a collection member that collects the foreign matter removed from the charging roller in the developing tank in the printing apparatus.
Usually, most of the foreign matter remaining on the image carrier after transfer is a component of the developer (toner, carrier, etc.). Therefore, in this configuration, the foreign matter removed from the image carrier by the charging roller is collected in the developing tank so that it can be reused. Thereby, the running cost (expense concerning a developing material) in a printing apparatus can be reduced.
[0035]
Moreover, the cleaning part of this removal mechanism can be comprised from the plate and film which contact | abut the surface of a charging roller, for example. If comprised in this way, a cleaning part can be made cheap and simple.
[0036]
Further, in this case, it is preferable that the cleaning unit is made of a conductive material. Furthermore, it is preferable that the removal mechanism is provided with a grounding mechanism for releasing the charge generated in the cleaning unit.
Thereby, accumulation of electric charges in the cleaning unit due to friction between the cleaning unit and the charging roller can be avoided. Accordingly, it is possible to prevent deterioration of the cleaning performance with time due to charging of the cleaning unit itself.
[0037]
In this case, it is preferable that the surface of the charging roller is made of a releasable material (for example, conductive fluororesin). If it does in this way, the cleaning performance in a cleaning part can be improved.
[0038]
In this removal mechanism, it is preferable that the charging bias of the charging roller is a superimposed voltage in which an AC voltage is superimposed on a DC voltage.
As a result, the surface of the image carrier can be uniformly charged by the direct current component.
Then, the foreign substance on the surface of the image carrier can be vibrated (vibrated) by the AC component. Thereby, the detachment of the foreign matter from the image carrier is promoted, and the foreign matter can be electrostatically attracted efficiently.
[0039]
In other words, in this configuration, an alternating electrostatic force acts on the foreign substance on the image carrier near the position where it enters the charging region (upstream side as viewed from the image carrier) by superimposing the AC component on the DC component.
Thereby, the detachment of the foreign matter from the
[0040]
In this removal mechanism, it is preferable to form a magnetic field on the charging roller.
As a result, foreign matter on the image carrier can be removed not only by electrostatic force due to charging bias but also by magnetic force (magnetic attraction force).
For example, when a carrier having a large mass is included in the developer, the recovery efficiency is deteriorated in the old contract using only the charging bias. On the other hand, the collection efficiency can be increased by applying a magnetic attractive force to the carrier in addition to the electrostatic force.
[0041]
The removal mechanism preferably includes a charge adjusting member that charges the charge amount of the foreign matter on the image carrier to a polarity opposite to the developing bias.
This charge adjusting member is provided on the upstream side of the charging region.
Thereby, the charge amount of the foreign matter can be adjusted so as to be easily attracted to the developing bias, so that the foreign matter suction efficiency by the charging roller can be improved.
[0042]
In addition, the removal mechanism includes a developing roller that develops the electrostatic latent image on the image carrier and attracts (removes) foreign matter remaining on the image carrier (which could not be removed by the charging roller). Preferably.
The developing roller is provided so as to face the image carrier at a predetermined interval (development gap), and a predetermined developing bias is applied to the developing roller. Originally, the electrostatic latent image on the image carrier is developed using a developing bias and a developer in the developing process of the printing apparatus.
The development region is a region where air discharge occurs between the development roller and the image carrier (for example, obtained by substituting the maximum value of the voltage applied to the development roller into the Pasche's empirical formula. ).
[0043]
In this removal mechanism, the developing bias of the developing roller is used to attract the foreign matter on the image carrier (which could not be attracted by the charging roller) to the charging roller.
In other words, in this configuration, the developing roller has a foreign matter removing function in addition to the developing function. For this reason, it is not necessary to provide a special member (such as a cleaning blade) for removing foreign substances from the image carrier, and the manufacturing cost can be reduced.
[0044]
The foreign matter that can be removed by the developing bias is determined by the developing bias, the foreign matter, the charge polarity and charge amount of the image carrier.
That is, the foreign matter that can be removed by the developing bias mainly has an attracting force to the developing roller that is superior to the attracting force to the image carrier when the developing bias is received.
In this way, by providing the developing roller with a foreign matter removing function, foreign matter on the image carrier can be more reliably removed.
[0045]
In this removal mechanism, the distance (charging gap) at the closest position between the charging roller and the image carrier is smaller than the thickness of the sheet used in the printing apparatus, and more than the toner particle size in the developer. Larger is preferred.
[0046]
Usually, in a printing apparatus, when a visible image on an image carrier is transferred to a sheet, the sheet is attached to the image carrier by a transfer bias. Then, after the transfer, the sheet is peeled off from the image carrier.
If the charging gap is set smaller than the thickness of the sheet, it is possible to prevent the sheet from entering the charging area even when the sheet stuck to the image carrier cannot be peeled due to some trouble. . Thereby, since such a sheet can be prevented from reaching the deep part of the printing apparatus, the sheet can be easily removed (jam processing).
[0047]
In consideration of the thickness of a general sheet, by setting the charging gap to be smaller than this thickness, occurrence of abnormal discharge in the charging roller can be reduced, and uneven charging of the image carrier due to abnormal discharge can be prevented. Further, by setting the charging gap to be small in this manner, the discharge start voltage can be lowered and the power supply voltage can be reduced as shown by the “Pasche's empirical formula”.
[0048]
Further, by making the charging gap larger than the particle diameter of the toner, it is possible to prevent toner fusion (fusion to the charging roller or image carrier) within the charging gap.
[0049]
Further, when the developer used in the printing apparatus is a two-component developer including toner and carrier, the charging gap is smaller than the particle size of the carrier of the developer, and more than the particle size of the toner. Is also preferably large.
As a result, the entry of carriers into the charging gap can be completely eliminated. In consideration of the general carrier particle size, by setting the charging gap smaller than the carrier particle size, the occurrence of abnormal discharge can be reduced, and uneven charging of the image carrier due to abnormal discharge can be prevented. Further, by setting the charging gap to be small in this manner, the discharge start voltage can be lowered and the power supply voltage can be reduced as shown by the “Pasche's empirical formula”.
[0050]
In addition, it is preferable to use this removal mechanism in a printing apparatus that performs reversal development because a remarkable effect can be exhibited in maintaining image quality.
That is, in the regular development printing apparatus, the foreign matter having charging characteristics that can be removed by the charging roller has the same polarity as that of the image carrier. For this reason, even if such foreign matters are not removed by the charging roller, they are easily detached from the image carrier, and it is considered that the influence on the subsequent printing is reduced.
[0051]
On the other hand, in the reversal developing printing apparatus, the foreign matter having charging characteristics that can be removed by the charging roller has a polarity opposite to that of the image carrier, exerts a strong adsorption force, and tends to remain on the image carrier forever.
Accordingly, when removing the foreign matter on the charging roller by the charging roller, if the foreign matter on the charging roller is not removed or cleaned, the foreign matter accumulates on the charging roller, and the ability to remove the foreign matter with respect to the image carrier decreases or the accumulated foreign matter There is a possibility that foreign matter will remain on the image carrier after charging due to separation and re-attachment to the image carrier, which may greatly affect the subsequent printing.
Therefore, it can be said that the use of this removal mechanism in a printing apparatus that performs reversal development can prevent image quality deterioration of the printing apparatus better.
[0052]
In this configuration, the charging roller preferably adsorbs toner having a polarity opposite to that of the image carrier as a foreign substance.
Such toner is a main cause of image quality degradation that occurs when the charging roller is not cleaned. In the present removal mechanism, the toner adsorbed on the charging roller can be cleaned by the cleaning unit, so that the image quality can be prevented from being deteriorated.
[0053]
Further, the foreign matter removing method (this removing method) of the present invention is a foreign matter removing method for removing foreign matter remaining on an image carrier in an electrophotographic printing apparatus, wherein the charging roller of the printing apparatus is used as an image carrier. The charge carrier is charged with the charging bias, the image carrier is charged by the charging bias, and the charging / removing step for attracting the foreign matter on the image carrier to the charging roller, and the foreign matter adsorbed on the charging roller is removed and charged. And a cleaning process for cleaning the surface of the roller.
[0054]
This removal method is a foreign matter removal method used in the above-described removal mechanism.
Accordingly, the foreign matter on the image carrier can be removed by the charging roller, so that it is not necessary to provide a special removing device for removing the foreign matter.
In addition, since the charging roller and the image carrier are rotating at the same time, it is possible to prevent foreign matter on the image carrier from biting into the charging gap (and damaging the image carrier and the charging roller) as well as image quality in the printing apparatus. Deterioration can be prevented.
Furthermore, since the charging roller is cleaned, foreign matter can be prevented from accumulating on the charging roller, and image quality deterioration due to this can be avoided.
[0055]
In addition, the removal method includes a developing / sucking step of developing the electrostatic latent image of the image carrier by the developing roller of the printing apparatus and sucking the foreign matter remaining on the image carrier. Is preferred.
[0056]
In this method, the developing roller is provided with a foreign matter removing function in addition to the developing function, so that foreign matter that could not be sucked by the charging roller is sucked from the image carrier.
Therefore, in this method, it is not necessary to provide a special member for removing foreign matter from the image carrier, and the manufacturing cost can be reduced and foreign matter on the image carrier can be more reliably removed.

In addition, after charging the surface of the image carrier with a charging device, the printing apparatus is exposed according to image data to form an electrostatic latent image, and a toner image obtained by developing the latent image is transferred to a sheet. In the printing apparatus, the charging device includes a charging roller that adsorbs the foreign matter remaining on the image carrier after the transfer of the toner image and charges the image carrier, and the charging roller, the image carrier, Can be expressed as a configuration that includes a cleaning unit that removes foreign matter adsorbed on the charging roller and cleans the surface of the charging roller.
[0191]
The present invention also relates to an image forming apparatus, and more particularly to an image forming apparatus using a charging device that charges a surface of a photosensitive member by applying a voltage to a charging roller that is not in contact with the photosensitive member. I can say that.
[0192]
In addition, conventionally, it has a photosensitive member and a charging device that is disposed close to the surface of the photosensitive member and includes a charging roller that charges the photosensitive member. The electrostatic device formed by charging and exposing the photosensitive member. In an image forming apparatus that develops a latent image with a developer containing at least toner and a carrier, when the toner image is transferred to a transfer material, the toner image is not completely transferred to the transfer material, and residual toner is generated on the photoreceptor. If the residual toner remains generated, it has an adverse effect on the image. Conventionally, the toner is scraped off and removed by the cleaning blade of the cleaning means in contact with the photosensitive member.
[0193]
However, even if the toner is removed by the cleaning means, a small amount of residual toner remains. The remaining toner gradually adheres to the charging roller of the charging device and accumulates on the charging roller as the amount of use of the image forming apparatus increases.
[0194]
Another object of the present invention is to remove the toner on the surface of the charging roller by a simple means without entrapping foreign matter between the charging roller and the photosensitive member. In other words, it can be said that an image forming apparatus that prevents image defects and image defects caused by scattered toner is provided.

Therefore, it can be said that the toner can be electrostatically adsorbed and the removal efficiency of the reversely charged toner can be increased. In addition, since the carrier has a large mass, the electrostatic adsorption is burdensome and the carrier recovery efficiency is low. However, since the magnetic field is formed in the charging

FIG. 9 is a graph showing the relationship between the voltage applied by the charge adjusting means (conductive brush 42) and the charge amount of the toner at that time.
[0200]
The point that the present printing apparatus is more effective for reversal development than regular development will be described with reference to FIG. FIGS. 10A and 10B are diagrams illustrating the relationship between the toner and the photoconductor in the printing apparatus using regular development and reversal development, respectively. In the case of regular development, as shown in FIG. 10A, regular charged toner (toner having a main charge polarity) is positively (+) charged. Here, in the development area, for example, when a voltage of −200 V is applied to the development bias, it is a reversely charged toner (toner having a polarity opposite to that of the regular charged toner). The charged toner passes through the charged area without being collected by the charging roller. Then, the toner is captured by the + charged toner (at this time, the voltage of the photoconductor in the exposed portion that is a white background is −50 V, and the voltage of the photoconductor in the unexposed portion that becomes an image is −600 V). Further, the positively charged toner that has not been collected by the charging roller is a normally charged toner and is thus captured by the developing bias. As described above, in the case of regular development, since the electrodes of the reversely charged toner and the photoconductor are of the same polarity, the reversely charged toner is unlikely to remain in the white area on the photoconductor due to repulsion.
[0201]
On the other hand, in the case of reversal development, as shown in FIG. 10B, the normally charged toner is negatively (−) charged. Here, when a voltage of, for example, a developing bias of −400 V is applied to the charged normal charged toner that is not collected by the charging roller in the developing region, the normally charged toner is captured by the developing bias (the image at this time) The voltage of the photoconductor in the exposed area is −50V, and the voltage of the photoconductor in the unexposed area that is white is −600V). However, the positively charged toner that is not collected by the charging roller, that is, the reversely charged toner, has a strong electrostatic force because the reversely charged toner and the unexposed photoreceptor on the white background have a reverse polarity in the case of reverse development. It tends to remain on the photoreceptor. Further, since the developing bias is negative, the normally charged toner is also drawn out to the remaining reversely charged toner and adheres to the reverse polarity toner. Therefore, it can be said that the present printing apparatus is more effective in an image forming apparatus using reversal development in which toner is likely to remain due to the reversely charged toner on a white background photoreceptor.

Further, the sheet P used in the electrophotographic image forming apparatus is, for example, a recording paper, which is thin and about 60 g / m. 2 The thickness is about 60 to 80 μm. Therefore, when a one-component developer is used, the charging gap C is made smaller than the sheet P (recording paper), that is, 60 μm or less, for example, so that the electrostatic charge is electrostatically attracted to the
[0208]
Further, in this printing apparatus, the charging member (charging roller 52) and the image carrier (photosensitive member 1) are rotated so that the moving directions of the surfaces facing each other at the closest position are opposite to each other (against rotation). ) So that residual developer components such as reversely charged toner remaining on the image carrier after the transfer pass through the charging gap at the closest position between the discharge surface of the charging member and the image carrier. It is adsorbed and removed by the charging member. Therefore, it is possible to prevent the residual developer component such as the reversely charged toner from entering the charging gap, and it is possible to positively remove and collect the residual developer component from the surface of the image carrier. . Further, when the charging member removes and collects the residual developer component, foreign matter (residue) such as transfer material debris adhering to the residual developer component adsorbed by the charging member also simultaneously on the image carrier. Can be removed and recovered.
[0209]
This eliminates the need for a conventional cleaning device to remove foreign matters such as residual developer components remaining on the image carrier, thereby reducing the size of the device and reducing the power supply voltage. Can be lowered. As a result, the film thickness of the image carrier due to cleaning can be reduced, and the generation of rubbing marks can be prevented, and the load torque of the image carrier can be reduced.
[0210]
Furthermore, since the residual developer component can be prevented from entering the charging gap, it is possible to prevent the residual developer component from passing through the charging gap and causing a shadow of the developer component to be uncharged. The charging characteristics of the image carrier can be improved.
[0211]
In addition, since the charging member is rotated with respect to the image carrier, the charging surface of the charging member and the charging surface of the image carrier at the closest position between the charging member and the image carrier are relatively The mileage is expanded. For this reason, charging unevenness due to partial fluctuations in the resistance value of the charging member can be prevented, charging can be made uniform, and at the charging region, specifically, the charging gap, on the downstream side of the image carrier, that is, The effect of charging the charging member itself due to the charging operation is mitigated by the entrance of the surface (charged surface) to be the charging surface of the charging member from the charging end side (downstream side of the charging region). The charged surface of the refreshed charging member after removing the developer component and the like on the charging member that has been collected enters the charging gap, thereby preventing the influence of the collected material. It can be said that the charging characteristics of the carrier are improved.
[0212]
Further, in this printing apparatus, it is preferable that the

[0214]
The present invention can also be expressed as the following first to tenth image forming apparatuses. That is, the first image forming apparatus includes a photosensitive member and a charging device that is disposed in the vicinity of the surface of the photosensitive member and includes a charging roller that charges the photosensitive member. In an image forming apparatus for developing the formed electrostatic latent image with a developer containing at least toner and a carrier, a cleaning unit for cleaning the surface of the charging roller is provided, and the rotation direction of the charging roller and the photosensitive member It is the structure which makes a rotation direction the same direction.
[0215]
In the first image forming apparatus, since the surface of the charging roller is cleaned by the cleaning unit, the charging characteristics of the charging roller can be stabilized. In addition, since the charging roller rotates in the same direction as the rotation direction of the photosensitive member (against rotation), foreign matter can be prevented from entering the charging gap (the distance between the discharge surface of the charging device and the photosensitive member). it can. (It is possible to prevent biting of foreign matter.) Further, the travel distance of the charging surface is increased by the rotation of the agent (the surface area of the charging roller facing the photosensitive member can be increased), so that the charging surface is refreshed from the downstream side of the photosensitive member. The charging characteristics of the photoreceptor are improved. Further, the influence of charging of the charging roller itself can be reduced.
[0216]
The second image forming apparatus is configured such that, in the first image forming apparatus, a distance (charging gap) at a closest position between the discharge surface of the charging device and the photoconductor is equal to or less than the carrier diameter. Thus, by setting the gap between the charging gaps to be smaller than the carrier diameter, it is possible to eliminate the biting (entry) of the carrier into the charging gap, and reliably collect the carrier that has a large mass and is difficult to attract electrostatically in the charging roller. it can.
[0217]
Further, in the third image forming apparatus, in the first image forming apparatus, the cleaning unit is configured by a plate or a film. By comprising with a plate or a film, it can be set as a simple cleaning means.
Further, the fourth image forming apparatus has a configuration in which the cleaning unit has conductivity in the first image forming apparatus. By losing the frictionally charged electric charge, it is possible to prevent deterioration of the cleaning performance with time due to the charging of the cleaning means itself due to friction between the cleaning means and the charging roller.
[0218]
Further, the fifth image forming apparatus has a configuration in which the surface of the charging roller has releasability in the first image forming apparatus. By using, for example, a conductive fluororesin having releasability as the surface of the charging roller, the cleaning performance of the cleaning unit is further improved. The sixth image forming apparatus is configured to form a magnetic field on the charging roller in the first image forming apparatus. By recovering the carrier non-mechanically by magnetic attraction, the carrier recovery efficiency can be increased.
[0219]
Further, the seventh image forming apparatus is a configuration in which the first image forming apparatus further includes charge adjusting means for adjusting the charge amount of the toner on the photosensitive member to the reverse charging side on the upstream side of the charging region. Thereby, the toner can be captured more efficiently by the charging means by shifting the charge amount of the toner to the reverse charging side before entering the charging region.
In addition, the eighth image forming apparatus has a configuration in which the first image forming apparatus further includes a collecting unit that collects the toner cleaned by the cleaning unit in the developing tank. Since the toner cleaned by the cleaning means is collected in the developing tank, it is possible to prevent the toner from returning to the photoreceptor.
[0220]
Further, the ninth image forming apparatus is a reverse developing image forming apparatus in the first image forming apparatus. By using an image forming apparatus for reversal development, the effect of the first image forming apparatus becomes more effective.
The tenth image forming apparatus has a configuration in which the foreign matter to be removed is reversely charged toner in the ninth image forming apparatus. Since the main cause of the image quality degradation that occurs when the charging roller is not cleaned is the reversely charged toner, the configuration is very effective.
[0221]
【The invention's effect】
As described above, the foreign matter removing mechanism (main removing mechanism) of the present invention is a foreign matter removing mechanism for removing foreign matter remaining on an image carrier in an electrophotographic printing apparatus. Along with the rotation of the rotation, the image bearing member is charged by the charging bias, and the charging roller that adsorbs the foreign matter on the image bearing member, and the cleaning unit that removes the foreign matter adsorbed on the charging roller and cleans the surface of the charging roller. It is the structure which contains.
[0222]
In this removal mechanism, the charging roller uses the charging bias to attract the foreign matter (foreign matter charged to the opposite polarity to the charging bias) on the image carrier to the charging roller.
That is, in this removal mechanism, the charging roller has a foreign matter removal function in addition to the charging function. For this reason, it is not necessary to provide a special member (such as a cleaning blade) for removing foreign substances from the image carrier. Therefore, the manufacturing cost can be reduced.
[0223]
In particular, in the present removal mechanism, the charging roller is set to rotate against the image carrier.
Therefore, in this removal mechanism, the foreign material on the image carrier is attracted to the charging roller at the position where it enters the charging area, and is moved away from the charging area as the charging roller rotates.
[0224]
As a result, in this removal mechanism, foreign matter on the image carrier can be prevented from passing through the charging region (charging gap), and this can be prevented from biting into the charging gap (and damaging the image carrier and charging roller). .
[0225]
Further, since no foreign matter remains in the charging area, the foreign matter does not hinder charging. Therefore, generation of an uncharged portion of the image carrier due to the presence of foreign matter can be prevented.
[0226]
In addition, since the entry of foreign matter into the charging gap can be prevented, it is not necessary to widen the charging gap in accordance with a large size foreign matter, so that the charging gap can be narrowed. In addition, by narrowing the gap of the charging gap in this way, the charging bias can be lowered as is apparent from the “Pasche's empirical formula” indicating the discharge start voltage in the air discharge. Further, it is possible to reduce the size of the removal mechanism or the printing apparatus.
[0227]
Note that when the charging roller and the image carrier rotate with each other (when rotating in opposite directions), the charging roller passes through the charging area while holding the removed foreign matter. However, on the downstream side of the charging area (downstream side for the image carrier), the surface potential of the image carrier is charged to substantially the same potential as the charging bias (DC component), so the foreign matter adsorption force of the image carrier However, it is not so different from the charging roller. Therefore, in the width rotation, the ability to electrostatically collect foreign matter from the image carrier is greatly reduced.
[0228]
On the other hand, in this removal mechanism, since the rotation is against the rotation, the charging roller removes the foreign matter from the image carrier on the upstream side of the charging region (the side on which the foreign matter enters the charging region). For this reason, the influence of the adsorption force of the image carrier can be avoided.
[0229]
Further, in this removal mechanism, since the charging roller rotates against the image carrier, the relative running between the surface of the charging roller (charged surface) and the surface of the image carrier (charged surface) in the charging area. The distance can be expanded.
For this reason, since charging fluctuations due to partial resistance value fluctuations of the charging roller can be suppressed, charging characteristics (charging uniformity) in the image carrier can be improved.
[0230]
In this removal mechanism, since the charging roller rotates against the image carrier, a surface that becomes a new charging surface enters the charging region from the downstream side of the charging region.
Therefore, even when a voltage drop due to the charging of the capacitive component occurs inside the charging roller itself along with the charging operation to the image carrier, it is possible to alleviate the decrease in the image carrier charging potential due to the internal voltage drop. Further, on the downstream side of the charging region, the surface potential of the image carrier increases as the charging progresses, and the charging current density (relative to the area) also decreases as the surface potential increases. For this reason, the action of mitigating the decrease in the charged potential of the image carrier due to the voltage drop due to the resistance component inside the charging roller also works.
[0231]
This effect is particularly remarkable when the resistance value of the charging roller is high. That is, when the resistance of the charging roller is high, a voltage drop due to charging of the capacitive component and a voltage drop due to the resistance component become remarkable, and it is difficult to raise the image carrier to a normal charging potential.
[0232]
In particular, the removal mechanism includes a cleaning unit that removes foreign matter adsorbed on the charging roller and cleans the surface of the charging roller.
As a result, foreign matter can be prevented from accumulating on the charging roller, so that deterioration of charging characteristics and abnormal discharge of the charging roller due to foreign matter can be prevented, and the charging property can be stabilized. Accordingly, it is possible to avoid the occurrence of image quality degradation such as image fogging.
[0233]
In addition, since the foreign matter once removed by the charging roller can be prevented from returning to the image carrier, image deterioration due to such foreign matter can be avoided.
In addition, if a printing apparatus including the above-described removal mechanism is configured, printing with less image quality deterioration can be performed.
[0234]
Moreover, in this removal mechanism, it is preferable that the cleaning unit has a collection member that collects the foreign matter removed from the charging roller in the developing tank in the printing apparatus.
Usually, most of the foreign matter remaining on the image carrier after transfer is a component of the developer (toner, carrier, etc.). Therefore, in this configuration, the foreign matter removed from the image carrier by the charging roller is collected in the developing tank so that it can be reused. Thereby, the running cost (expense concerning a developing material) in a printing apparatus can be reduced.
[0235]
Moreover, the cleaning part of this removal mechanism can be comprised from the plate and film which contact | abut the surface of a charging roller, for example. If comprised in this way, a cleaning part can be made cheap and simple.
[0236]
Further, in this case, it is preferable that the cleaning unit is made of a conductive material. Furthermore, it is preferable that the removal mechanism is provided with a grounding mechanism for releasing the charge generated in the cleaning unit.
Thereby, accumulation of electric charges in the cleaning unit due to friction between the cleaning unit and the charging roller can be avoided. Accordingly, it is possible to prevent deterioration of the cleaning performance with time due to charging of the cleaning unit itself.
[0237]
In this case, it is preferable that the surface of the charging roller is made of a releasable material (for example, conductive fluororesin). If it does in this way, the cleaning performance in a cleaning part can be improved.
[0238]
In this removal mechanism, it is preferable that the charging bias of the charging roller is a superimposed voltage in which an AC voltage is superimposed on a DC voltage.
As a result, the surface of the image carrier can be uniformly charged by the direct current component.
Then, the foreign substance on the surface of the image carrier can be vibrated (vibrated) by the AC component. Thereby, the detachment of the foreign matter from the image carrier is promoted, and the foreign matter can be electrostatically attracted efficiently.
[0239]
In other words, in this configuration, an alternating electrostatic force acts on the foreign substance on the image carrier near the position where it enters the charging region (upstream side as viewed from the image carrier) by superimposing the AC component on the DC component.
Thereby, the detachment of the foreign matter from the
[0240]
In this removal mechanism, it is preferable to form a magnetic field on the charging roller.
As a result, foreign matter on the image carrier can be removed not only by electrostatic force due to charging bias but also by magnetic force (magnetic attraction force).
For example, when a carrier having a large mass is included in the developer, the recovery efficiency is deteriorated in the old contract using only the charging bias. On the other hand, the collection efficiency can be increased by applying a magnetic attractive force to the carrier in addition to the electrostatic force.
[0241]
The removal mechanism preferably includes a charge adjusting member that charges the charge amount of the foreign matter on the image carrier to a polarity opposite to the developing bias.
This charge adjusting member is provided on the upstream side of the charging region.
Thereby, the charge amount of the foreign matter can be adjusted so as to be easily attracted to the developing bias, so that the foreign matter suction efficiency by the charging roller can be improved.
[0242]
In addition, the removal mechanism includes a developing roller that develops the electrostatic latent image on the image carrier and attracts (removes) foreign matter remaining on the image carrier (which could not be removed by the charging roller). Preferably.
The developing roller is provided so as to face the image carrier at a predetermined interval (development gap), and a predetermined developing bias is applied to the developing roller. Originally, the electrostatic latent image on the image carrier is developed using a developing bias and a developer in the developing process of the printing apparatus.
The development region is a region where air discharge occurs between the development roller and the image carrier (for example, obtained by substituting the maximum value of the voltage applied to the development roller into the Pasche's empirical formula. ).
[0243]
In this removal mechanism, the developing bias of the developing roller is used to attract the foreign matter on the image carrier (which could not be attracted by the charging roller) to the charging roller.
In other words, in this configuration, the developing roller has a foreign matter removing function in addition to the developing function. For this reason, it is not necessary to provide a special member (such as a cleaning blade) for removing foreign substances from the image carrier, and the manufacturing cost can be reduced.
[0244]
The foreign matter that can be removed by the developing bias is determined by the developing bias, the foreign matter, the charge polarity and charge amount of the image carrier.
That is, the foreign matter that can be removed by the developing bias mainly has an attracting force to the developing roller that is superior to the attracting force to the image carrier when the developing bias is received.
In this way, by providing the developing roller with a foreign matter removing function, foreign matter on the image carrier can be more reliably removed.
[0245]
In this removal mechanism, the distance (charging gap) at the closest position between the charging roller and the image carrier is smaller than the thickness of the sheet used in the printing apparatus, and more than the toner particle size in the developer. Larger is preferred.
[0246]
[0247]
In consideration of the thickness of a general sheet, by setting the charging gap to be smaller than this thickness, occurrence of abnormal discharge in the charging roller can be reduced, and uneven charging of the image carrier due to abnormal discharge can be prevented. Further, by setting the charging gap to be small in this manner, the discharge start voltage can be lowered and the power supply voltage can be reduced as shown by the “Pasche's empirical formula”.
[0248]
Further, by making the charging gap larger than the particle diameter of the toner, it is possible to prevent toner fusion (fusion to the charging roller or image carrier) within the charging gap.
[0249]
[0250]
In addition, it is preferable to use this removal mechanism in a printing apparatus that performs reversal development because a remarkable effect can be exhibited in maintaining image quality.
That is, in the regular development printing apparatus, the foreign matter having charging characteristics that can be removed by the charging roller has the same polarity as that of the image carrier. For this reason, even if such foreign matters are not removed by the charging roller, they are easily detached from the image carrier, and it is considered that the influence on the subsequent printing is reduced.
[0251]
[0252]
In this configuration, the charging roller preferably adsorbs toner having a polarity opposite to that of the image carrier as a foreign substance.
Such toner is a main cause of image quality degradation that occurs when the charging roller is not cleaned. In the present removal mechanism, the toner adsorbed on the charging roller can be cleaned by the cleaning unit, so that the image quality can be prevented from being deteriorated.
[0253]
Further, the foreign matter removing method (this removing method) of the present invention is a foreign matter removing method for removing foreign matter remaining on an image carrier in an electrophotographic printing apparatus. The charge carrier is charged with the charging bias, the image carrier is charged by the charging bias, and the charging / removing process for adsorbing the foreign matter on the image carrier to the charging roller, and the foreign matter adsorbed on the charging roller is removed and charged. And a cleaning step of cleaning the surface of the roller.
[0254]
[0255]
In addition, the removal method includes a developing / sucking step of developing the electrostatic latent image of the image carrier by the developing roller of the printing apparatus and sucking the foreign matter remaining on the image carrier. Is preferred.
[0256]
In this method, the developing roller is provided with a foreign matter removing function in addition to the developing function, so that foreign matter that could not be sucked by the charging roller is sucked from the image carrier.
Therefore, in this method, it is not necessary to provide a special member for removing foreign matter from the image carrier, and the manufacturing cost can be reduced and foreign matter on the image carrier can be more reliably removed.
