【発明の属する技術分野】
本発明は携帯型情報処理装置及び操作画面表示制御方法に関し、例えば携帯電話機に適用して好適なものである。

【従来の技術】
従来、携帯電話機においては、例えば予めインストールされている電子メールプログラム等の各種アプリケーションプログラムに基づいて各種機能を提供しており、所定の操作を介してユーザが希望する機能が選択されると、当該選択された機能の操作画面を表示部に表示するようになされている。

【発明が解決しようとする課題】
ところでかかる構成の携帯電話機においては、今後種々の機能が増える傾向にあり、現状の表示部に1つの操作画面のみを表示する構造では、複数の操作画面を同時に表示することができず、かくしてユーザに対し複数の機能を同時に利用させ得ない。

従ってかかる構成の携帯電話機において、複数の機能を利用して作業を行う場合、次に利用を希望する機能の操作画面を表示部に表示する前に、現在利用している操作画面を一度終了する必要があるため、操作画面の切替え作業が煩雑となる問題があった。

本発明は以上の点を考慮してなされたもので、複数の機能を同時に利用可能とした上で操作画面を簡易な操作で切替え得る携帯型情報処理装置及び操作画面表示制御方法を提案しようとするものである。

【課題を解決するための手段】
かかる課題を解決するために本発明においては、表示部の表示画面を分割することにより、主表示領域と、筐体上における所定の操作手段の配設場所と対応付けられた複数の副表示領域とからなる操作画面表示領域を生成した後、主表示領域及び複数の副表示領域に対して所定の規則に基づき各種機能に対応した複数の操作画面をそれぞれ表示し、所定の操作手段に対して行われた操作に応じて副表示領域に表示中の操作画面と主表示領域に表示中の操作画面とを切り替えて表示するようにした。

ユーザは表示部に表示された複数の操作画面の中から次に利用を希望する機能の操作画面を容易に特定し得ると共に、直感的且つ簡易な操作で特定した操作画面と現在使用中の操作画面とを切替えることができる。

【発明の実施の形態】
以下図面について、本発明の一実施の形態を詳述する。

(1)携帯電話機の外観構成
図1において、1は全体として本発明による携帯型情報処理装置としての携帯電話機を示し、中央のヒンジ部2を境に上側筐体3と下側筐体4とに分けられており、当該ヒンジ部2を介して折り畳み可能に形成されている。

上側筐体3においては、その背面における上端右側に、送受信用のアンテナ5が引出及び収容可能な状態に取り付けられており、当該アンテナ5を介して基地局(図示せず)との間で無線通信するようになされている。

また上側筐体3の正面上端にはスピーカ6が設けられているとともに、正面中央には液晶ディスプレイ等でなる表示手段としての表示部7が設けられており、当該表示部7には電子メール機能等の各種機能の操作画面や、電波の受信状態、バッテリ残量、現在日時等を表示し得るようになされている。

一方、下側筐体4においては、その表面中央部には、「0」〜「9」、「#」及び「*」キーからなるテンキー8が設けられていると共に、当該テンキー8の上部には、携帯電話機1の電源のON/OFF命令や終話命令等を入力するための電源/終話キー9と、発信命令等を入力するための通話キー10とが設けられている。

また下側筐体4の表面上端中央部には、回転操作及び押下操作可能なジョグダイヤル11が設けられていると共に、当該ジョグダイヤル11の両隣には左方向キー12及び右方向キー13が設けられている。

そして下側筐体4の表面上端部左側には、機能選択メニューボックス(後述する)を表示部7に表示するためのメニューキー14が設けられており、その表面上端部右側には、操作画面の表示を終了するための終了キー15が設けられている。

そして携帯電話機1においては、例えばメニューキー14が押下操作されることによって表示部7に機能選択メニューボックスを表示した後、ジョグダイヤル11が回転操作されることによって当該機能選択メニューボックスに選択項目として一覧表示されている複数の機能名称項目からユーザ所望の機能名称が選択された状態で、当該ジョグダイヤル11が押下操作されたことを認識すると、当該機能名称項目に対応する機能の操作画面を表示部7に表示するようになされている。

ここでジョグダイヤル11においては、図2に示すように当該ジョグダイヤル11を構成する円柱形状の回転操作子11Aが、下側筐体4の表面から僅かに突出した状態、すなわちユーザの親指等によって容易に回転操作及び押下操作し得るような状態で取り付けられている。

このジョグダイヤル11は、回転操作子11Aが回転操作される度に内部のロータリエンコーダを介して回転操作に連動した回転パルスを発生することにより内部の回路に回転操作量を通知すると共に、回転操作子11Aが押下操作される度にプッシュスイッチ11Bを介してこれを内部の回路に通知する。

ここで回転操作子11Aにおいては、所定回転角度毎に軽い引っ掛かり(以下、これを回転クリックと呼ぶ)を生じると共に、1回転クリック回転操作される毎に回転パルスを1パルス発生するようになされている。これにより携帯電話機1は、ジョグダイヤル11の回転操作量をユーザに対して触感を通じて確実に認識させることができる。

なお下側筐体4には、その表面下部にマイクロホン16が設けられており、当該マイクロホン16によってユーザの音声を集音するようになされている。

また下側筐体4の背面側には、図示しないバッテリパックが装着されており、電源/終話キー9の操作によって電源が投入されると、当該バッテリパックから内部の回路ブロックに対して電力を供給し、携帯電話機1を動作可能な状態に起動するようになされている。

(2)携帯電話機の回路構成
次に、携帯電話機1の回路構成について図3を用いて説明する。

携帯電話機1においては、当該携帯電話機1全体を統括的に制御するCPU(Central Processing Unit)20に対し、制御ライン21を介してワークエリアとしてのRAM(Random Access Memory)22、ROM(Read Only Memory)23、テンキー8と電源/終話キー9と通話キー10とジョグダイヤル11と左方向キー12と右方向キー13とメニューキー14と終了キー15とからなる操作入力部24及び通信処理部25が接続されて構成されている。またCPU20、RAM22、ROM23、表示部7、通信処理部25、スピーカ6及びマイクロホン16はデータライン26を介して互いに接続されている。

因みにROM23には、基本プログラム及び操作画面の表示処理を制御するための操作画面表示制御プログラム(後述する)等が格納されている。

加えてROM23には、アプリケーションプログラムとして、電子メールプログラム、Webブラウザプログラム、ユーザの現在位置を通知する機能を提供するためのGPSナビゲーションプログラム、メモ帳プログラム等も格納されている。

CPU20は、ROM23に格納された各種プログラムを適宜読み出し、これをRAM22に展開して実行することにより、携帯電話機1の各回路部を制御して各種処理を実行するようになされている。

例えばCPU20は基本プログラムに従い、操作入力部24を介して入力された操作命令に応じて通信処理部25を制御することにより、発呼処理や終話処理等の各種通信処理を実行する。

またCPU20は、操作入力部24を介してユーザが希望する機能(例えば、電子メール機能)が選択されたことを認識すると、これに応じたアプリケーションプログラム(この場合、電子メールプログラム)に従って、当該機能を実現するための処理を実行するようになされている。

(3)操作画面表示制御機能
(3−1)操作画面の表示遷移
ここでCPU20は、操作入力部24を介し所定の操作が行われることによってユーザが利用を希望する機能が選択されたことを認識すると、操作画面表示制御プログラムに従って操作画面表示制御処理(後述する)を実行することにより、選択された機能に関する操作画面を適切に配置して表示部7に表示するようになされている。

例えばCPU20は電源/終話キー9の押下操作により携帯電話機1の電源が投入されると、他の携帯電話機からの着信や当該携帯電話機1のユーザによって行われる各種操作を待受ける待受け状態へ移行すると共に、図4に示すような待受け画面100を表示部7に表示する。

この待受け画面100の基本情報表示部101には、電波の受信状態及びバッテリ残量を示すアイコンが表示されており、操作画面表示部102には、各種機能の操作画面が表示されるようになされている。但し、この場合待受け画面100においては、現在待受け状態にあるため、その旨をユーザに対して認識させる一例として日時情報等が表示されている。

そしてCPU20は、ジョグダイヤル11を介して例えば機能選択メニューボックス103における「電子メール」項目が選択決定されると、当該選択決定操作を電子メール機能の操作画面の表示命令(以下、これを操作画面表示命令と呼ぶ)として認識する。

実際上、CPU20は操作画面表示制御プログラムに従い、表示すべき1つ又は複数の操作画面を適切に配置した状態で表示部7上に表示するようになされている。例えばCPU20は、操作画面を全く表示していない状態から新たに電子メール機能の操作画面を1つ追加して表示するための操作画面表示命令が与えられると、これに応じて図6に示すように、操作画面表示部102上に1つの操作画面を表示するための操作画面表示領域104(破線で示す)を確保した後、当該操作画面表示命令に応じた1つ目の操作画面を確保した操作画面表示領域104に表示するようになされている。

従ってCPU20は、待受け画面100を表示した状態(図4)で電子メールの操作画面表示命令が与えられると、これに応じて図7に示すように、操作画面表示領域104に電子メール操作画面105を表示する。

実際上、CPU20は操作画面表示制御プログラムに従い、例えば1つ目の電子メール操作画面105を表示している状態で、新たに追加して2つ目のWebブラウザ機能の操作画面を表示するように操作画面表示命令が与えられると、これに応じて図9に示すように、表示部7の操作画面表示部102を分割することにより、第一表示領域106と、当該第一表示領域106より横幅が短い第二表示領域107と、当該第二表示領域107より横幅が短い第三表示領域108とを設けて操作画面表示領域104を再構成した後、1つ目の電子メール操作画面105を新たに確保した第二表示領域107に移して表示すると共に、当該操作画面表示命令に応じた2つ目のWebブラウザ機能の操作画面を第一表示領域106に表示する。

従ってCPU20は、電子メール操作画面105のみを表示した状態(図8)でWebブラウザの操作画面表示命令が与えられると、これに応じて図10に示すように、これまで第一表示領域106に表示していた電子メール操作画面105を第二表示領域107に移して表示すると共に、当該操作画面表示命令に応じたWebブラウザ操作画面109を第一表示領域106に表示する。

このように携帯電話機1においては、第一表示領域106に通話操作画面116を表示した状態で通話処理を開始していたとしても、左方向キー12を長押操作すると、図24に示すように通話操作画面116の表示を終了することなくメモ帳操作画面113を操作対象として第一表示領域106に切替えて表示させることができ、かくして通話処理を継続させたままメモ帳操作画面113に対して文章を作成する等、複数機能を同時に利用し得るようになされている。

(3−2)操作画面表示制御処理
次に、上述した操作画面の表示制御を行うための処理手順を、図25、26、27、28及び29に示すフローチャートを用いて詳細に説明する。

CPU20は、電源/終話キー9が押下されて携帯電話機1の電源が投入されると待受け状態に移行すると共に、操作画面表示制御プログラムに従って、図25に示す操作画面表示制御処理手順RT1をステップSP1から開始する。
