この種の照明は、その殆どが掲示装置の存在感を際立たせる目的のために使用されており、装置の外周の一辺乃至周囲に配設されて、点灯或いは点滅するようになっている。
ところで、照明の多くは電球であるため、剥き出しの裸のままでは何等かの外圧を受けて破損する恐れが多分にあり、破損事故が発生するのを避けられない。そこで、このような不具合が発生しないように照明を無色透明或いは有色透明のカバーで覆ったものが出回っていて、外圧による電球の破損事故は解消されている。
他方、照明そのものについて、電球、発光ダイオード、その他の公知の様々な照明を求める動きが出ており、この場合、現状では、カバーは照明に応じた特定の形態のものを整えることで対応している。このように、従来のカバーでは、様々な大きさ、形を用意しなければならず、経済的に不都合が多いという構造状の不備がある。
