本発明は、大画面で、薄型、軽量のディスプレイ装置として知られているプラズマディスプレイ装置に関するものである。

近年、プラズマディスプレイ装置は、視認性に優れた表示パネル(薄型表示デバイス)として注目されており、高精細化および大画面化が進められている。

このプラズマディスプレイ装置には、大別して、駆動的にはAC型とDC型があり、放電形式では面放電型と対向放電型の2種類があるが、高精細化、大画面化および製造の簡便性から、現状では、AC型で面放電型のプラズマディスプレイ装置が主流を占めるようになってきている。

【発明が解決しようとする課題】
このようなプラズマディスプレイ装置においては、パネルとシャーシ部材とは、輸送中や使用中に脱落してはならず、またパネルで発生した熱を効率よくシャーシ部材に伝えるためには、パネルとシャーシ部材とを全体的に密着させて接着する必要がある。

一方、ディスプレイがなんらかのトラブルで故障し、廃棄するときにリサイクルするためには、金属であるシャーシ部材とガラスであるパネルとの分離が必要である。

しかし、パネルとシャーシ部材は、輸送中や使用中に脱落してはならず、また熱伝導シートの使用時も熱効率の観点からより強固に接着されており、そのため、パネルとシャーシ部材の分離は、まずパネルを粉々にして、そのガラス片をキサゲなどで少しずつシャーシ部材から除去しなければならなく、この分離作業は非常に時間と手間がかかるものであった。

上記目的を達成するために本発明のプラズマディスプレイ装置の製造方法は、パネルを保持板に接着シートを介して接着する際に、接着シートは熱伝導性を有する多孔質の絶縁体シートの両面に接着層を形成して構成するとともに、前記パネルに接着される側の接着層側から多孔質の絶縁シートの厚み方向に複数のスリットを設けた構成とし、まず保持板の前面に接着シートを接着した後、前記パネル上に前記保持板を接着シート側を前記パネルの背面側にして重ね合せ、この状態で加圧することにより、前記パネルと保持板とを接着シートで接着することを特徴とする。

パネル構造は、図1に示すように、ガラス基板などの透明な前面側の基板1上には、スキャン電極とサステイン電極とで対をなすストライプ状の表示電極2が複数列形成され、そしてその電極群を覆うように誘電体層3が形成され、その誘電体層3上には保護膜4が形成されている。

また、前記前面側の基板1に対向配置される背面側の基板5上には、スキャン電極及びサステイン電極の表示電極2と交差するように、オーバーコート層6で覆われた複数列のストライプ状のアドレス電極7が形成されている。このアドレス電極7間のオーバーコート層6上には、アドレス電極7と平行に複数の隔壁8が配置され、この隔壁8間の側面およびオーバーコート層6の表面に蛍光体層9が設けられている。

図4にプラズマディスプレイ装置の製造方法における工程を示しており、図4において、パネル21は、図1に示すような構造であり、前面板22と背面板23とから構成されている。上述したように、前面板22は、ガラス基板などの透明な前面側の基板上に表示電極を複数列形成するとともに、その電極群を覆うように誘電体層及び保護膜を形成することにより構成され、また背面板23は、前面側のガラス基板に対向配置される背面側のガラス基板上に、表示電極と交差するようにオーバーコート層で覆われた複数列のアドレス電極を形成するとともに、オーバーコート層上にアドレス電極と平行に複数の隔壁を形成し、この隔壁間に蛍光体層を設けることにより構成されている。そして、これらの前面板22と背面板23とは、表示電極とアドレス電極とがほぼ直交するように、微小な放電空間を挟んで対向配置するとともに、周囲を封止し、前記放電空間にヘリウム、ネオン、アルゴン、キセノンのうちの一種または混合ガスを放電ガスとして封入することにより、表示電極とアドレス電極との交点に複数の放電セルが構成されたプラズマディスプレイパネルが得られる。

また、保持板としてのシャーシ部材24は、アルミニウム等からなる放熱板を兼ねたもので、シャーシ部材24の後面側には、図3に示すように、パネル21を表示駆動させるための複数の回路ブロックが取り付けられるものである。

次に、図4に沿って、本発明の製造方法を説明する。

すなわち、本発明においては、パネル21をシャーシ部材24に熱伝導シート25を介して接着する際、まずシャーシ部材24の前面に熱伝導シート25を、接着層25cをシャーシ部材24側にして接着する。シャーシ部材24に熱伝導シート25を接着する方法としては、図4(a)に示すように、テーブル26上に載置したシャーシ部材24の前面に、シャーシ部材24の一辺側から熱伝導シート25の接着層25cを徐々に圧接ローラ27で押圧力を加えながら接着することにより、図4(b)に示すように、シャーシ部材24と熱伝導シート25との間に空気層が残ることなく密着させて接着することができる。なお、図示していないが、熱伝導シート25の接着層25b、25c上には、一般的な両面接着テープと同様に、剥離シートがあり、圧接ローラ27で押さえるときはその剥離シート上から行う。

次に、図4(c)に示すように、熱伝導シート25を貼り付けたシャーシ部材24をパネル21上に搬送して位置決めを行った後、シャーシ部材24をパネル21上に、熱伝導シート25側をパネル21側にして重ね合わせ、熱伝導シート25を介してパネル21とシャーシ部材24を仮接着する。その後、パネル21とシャーシ部材24を仮接着した後、この状態で所定の圧力に達するまで徐々に加圧し、そして所定の加圧力に達した時点で、その加圧力で一定時間保持した後、加圧を解除することにより、パネル21とシャーシ部材24とを熱伝導シート25を介して接着することができる。図4(d)に接着後の状態を示している。

本発明においては、パネル21とシャーシ部材24とを熱伝導シート25を介して接着する際、熱伝導シート25は、多孔質の絶縁シート25aに接着層25b、25cを設けた構成で、しかもパネル21側となる接着層25b側にはスリット25dを設けた構成であるため、パネル21と熱伝導シート25との間の空気は、仮接着した後パネル21と熱伝導シート25を加圧することにより、スリット25dを通して多孔質の絶縁シート25a中に逃げ、その絶縁シート25a中を通して外部に出されることとなり、パネル21と熱伝導シート25とを密着させて接着することができ、充分な接着面積を得ることができる。

図6は本発明の他の実施の形態によるプラズマディスプレイ装置において、シャーシ部材にパネルを貼り付けた状態を示している。この図6に示す例では、熱伝導シート25の接着層25c側にもスリット25eを設けた例で、上述したように熱伝導シート25をシャーシ部材24に貼り付けて接着する場合にも、シャーシ部材24と熱伝導シート25との間に空気層が残ることなく、充分な接着面積で接着することができる。なお、このように熱伝導シート25の両面にスリット25d、25eを設ける場合は、両面に設けるそれぞれのスリット25d、25eの位置がずれるように設けておくことが望ましい。また、このスリットの代わりに穿孔であっても同様な効果が得られることは言うまでもない。

次に、上述した方法によりパネルをシャーシ部材に保持したプラズマディスプレイ装置を解体する場合の方法を図7、図8を用いて説明する。

前記切断部材としての切断ワイヤー28は、パネル21の長辺または短辺より長さが長い長尺のものであり、図7、図8に示すように、切断ワイヤー28をたるみのないように引っ張った状態で、パネル21の一端面より熱伝導シート25の絶縁シート25a部分を切るように移動させることにより、絶縁シート25aを切断することができる。なお、図7、図8の説明では、切断ワイヤー28を用いているが、金属製のテープ状の切断部材であってもよい。また、糸鋸のように、のこぎり歯を有するワイヤー、または金属テープをパネル21とシャーシ部材24の間に挿入し、左右にスライドさせて熱伝導シート25を切断するようにしたり、または回転のこぎりのように、回転する切断部材を用いても良い。

以上の説明から明らかなように本発明にかかるプラズマディスプレイ装置の製造方法によれば、パネルと保持板とを接着シートを介して接着する構造において、充分な接着面積を確保してパネルと保持板とを接着シートを介して接着することができ、しかもパネルと保持板の分離を簡単に行え、プラズマディスプレイ装置のリサイクルを効率よく行うことができるという効果が得られる。
