Abstract
Description
【0001】

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to a liquid crystal device and an electronic apparatus, and more particularly to a liquid crystal device capable of preventing abnormal lighting.
[0002]
[Prior art]
Based on FIG. 9, the structure of a conventional liquid crystal device will be described by taking a passive matrix liquid crystal display device as an example. FIG. 9 is a schematic plan view of the conventional liquid

[Problems to be solved by the invention]
However, as described above, when the lengths of all the routing wirings are made uniform, the lengths of the routing wirings as a whole are longer as compared with the case where all the routing wirings are arranged at a substantially shortest distance. Therefore, the wiring interval of the routing wiring is narrowed. For this reason, a horizontal electric field may be generated between adjacent routing wires. When a horizontal electric field is generated between adjacent routing wires, the generated horizontal electric field affects liquid crystal molecules, and abnormalities are generated in the routing wiring region. Lighting may occur. This problem is particularly prominent in a high-definition liquid crystal display device having a large number of electrodes and lead wirings.
[0014]
The lead-out wiring is provided in the non-display area. However, if abnormal lighting occurs even outside the display area, the display area may be affected. For example, when a portion that should not be lit outside the display area is lit, the display area near it may be displayed in white.
[0015]
The above problem is a remarkable problem when the length of the routing wiring is made uniform, but also occurs in a liquid crystal device having a routing wiring of any pattern.
[0016]
Further, the above problem is not limited to the liquid crystal device in which the driving circuit is mounted on each of the two substrates, and the driving circuit is mounted only on one substrate, and the driving circuit is not provided. This problem also occurs in a so-called vertical conduction liquid crystal device that is driven by a driving circuit provided on one substrate.
[0017]
Further, the above problem is not limited to the passive matrix type liquid crystal display device, but is represented by a two-terminal type element represented by a TFD (Thin-Film Diode) element or a TFT (Thin-Film Transistor) element. This is a problem that occurs in a liquid crystal device having any structure such as an active matrix liquid crystal device using a three-terminal element.
[0018]
Accordingly, the present invention has been made in view of the above problems, and can provide a liquid crystal device having excellent display quality and an electronic apparatus equipped with the liquid crystal device, which can prevent abnormal lighting in the routing wiring region. With the goal.
[0019]
[Means for Solving the Problems]
As a result of various studies to solve the above problems, the present inventor found that (1) liquid crystal molecules are adjacent when an angle formed by the extending direction of the lead wiring and the rubbing direction of the alignment film is within a certain range. Under the influence of the lateral electric field generated between the routing wires, abnormal lighting occurs in the routing wiring region. (2) In the passive matrix type liquid crystal device, abnormal lighting particularly occurs on the substrate on the signal electrode side. The present invention was completed focusing on these points.
[0020]
The liquid crystal device according to the present invention includes a pair of substrates that are disposed to face each other with a liquid crystal layer interposed therebetween, and each includes a conductive portion having at least a predetermined pattern and an alignment film rubbed in a predetermined direction on the surface of the liquid crystal layer. A liquid crystal device attached via a sealing material, wherein a routing wiring connected to the conductive portion is provided in a region inside the sealing material on a surface of at least one of the pair of substrates. The angle between the extending direction of the routing wiring located inside the sealing material and the rubbing direction of the alignment film is 0 to ± 25 degrees, or ± 75 to ± 90 degrees. .
[0021]
In this way, the present inventor makes the angle between the extending direction of the routing wiring located inside the sealing material and the rubbing direction of the alignment film on the surface of at least one substrate, 0 to ± 25 degrees, or ± 75 to It has been found that by setting the angle to ± 90 degrees, abnormal lighting in the routing wiring region can be prevented, and a liquid crystal device with excellent display quality can be provided.
[0022]
In addition, the extending direction of the routing wiring may be one or more for one routing wiring depending on the wiring pattern of the routing wiring. For example, when the routing wiring is bent and arranged in a U-shape, there are two kinds of extending directions of the routing wiring with the bent portion as a boundary. Furthermore, since the pattern is different for each routing wiring, there are a plurality of extending directions of the routing wiring electrically connected to the conductive portion on the surface of one substrate.
[0023]
Accordingly, in the liquid crystal device of the present invention, “the angle between the extending direction of the routing wiring located inside the sealing material on the surface of the substrate and the rubbing direction of the alignment film is 0 ± 25 degrees, or ± 75˜ ±. More specifically, `` set to 90 degrees '' means, `` There are a plurality of extending directions of the routing wiring on the surface of the substrate, but any extending direction is located on the inner side of the sealing material, This means that the angle between the alignment film and the rubbing direction is set to 0 to ± 25 degrees, or ± 75 to ± 90 degrees.
[0024]
In the liquid crystal device of the present invention, the “conductive portion” specifically refers to electrodes such as scanning electrodes and signal electrodes in a passive matrix liquid crystal device, or scanning lines and data lines in an active matrix liquid crystal device. Refers to the wiring.
Note that the angle formed between the extending direction of the routing wiring located inside the sealing material and the rubbing direction of the alignment film is set to 0 to ± 25 degrees or ± 75 to ± 90 degrees on the surface of at least one substrate. The reason why the abnormal lighting in the routing wiring area can be prevented will be described in detail in the embodiment.
[0025]
In addition, research by the present inventors has revealed that in passive matrix liquid crystal devices, abnormal lighting is likely to occur particularly on the signal electrode side, so that the conductive portions formed on the surfaces of the pair of substrates are respectively connected to the signal electrodes. In a passive matrix type liquid crystal device that is a scanning electrode, the extending direction and orientation of the lead-out wiring located inside the sealing material at least on the surface of the pair of substrates on which the signal electrode is formed It is desirable to set the angle formed by the rubbing direction of the film to 0 to ± 25 degrees, or ± 75 to ± 90 degrees.
[0026]
Note that the reason why abnormal lighting is more likely to occur on the substrate on the signal electrode side than on the scan electrode side in the passive matrix liquid crystal device is that the voltage applied to the scan electrode is constant while the voltage applied to the signal electrode is constant. Is assumed to have a predetermined waveform, and this waveform is considered to disturb the horizontal electric field generated between adjacent routing lines and affect liquid crystal molecules.
[0027]
Further, by providing the above-described liquid crystal device of the present invention, abnormal lighting can be prevented, and an electronic apparatus with excellent display quality can be provided.
[0028]

(Examples 1-4, Comparative Examples 1 and 2)
A passive matrix type liquid crystal panel was manufactured under the same conditions except that the wiring pattern of the routing wiring on the substrate on the signal electrode side and the rubbing direction of the alignment film were changed. As shown in FIG. 3 in the first embodiment, the routing wiring area is divided into three routing wiring areas, and the routing wiring is changed by changing the angle between the extending direction of the routing wiring and the reference line in each routing wiring area. Formed.
[0075]
Table 1 shows the angle (θ) formed between the reference line and the extending direction of the lead wiring and the angle formed between the reference line and the rubbing direction of the alignment film in each lead wiring region of Examples 1 to 4 and Comparative Examples 1 and 2. (Φ), an angle (θ−φ) formed between the extending direction of the lead wiring and the rubbing direction of the alignment film, and the determination result when the abnormal lighting test is performed in each lead wiring region are shown.
[0076]
The reference line, the angle (θ) between the reference line and the extending direction of the routing wiring, the angle (φ) between the reference line and the rubbing direction of the alignment film, the extending direction of the routing wiring and the rubbing of the alignment film Since the angle (θ−φ) formed with the direction is defined in the same manner as in the first embodiment, the description thereof is omitted.
[0077]
In Table 1, when the angle (θ−φ) formed between the extending direction of the routing wiring and the rubbing direction of the alignment film is less than −90 degrees or larger than 90 degrees, “θ−φ + 180”, respectively. ',' Θ-φ-180 'was defined as θ-φ. However, the raw data of θ-φ before adding or subtracting 180 is shown in parentheses.
[0078]
FIG. 7 shows the relationship between the angle (θ−φ) between the extending direction of the lead wiring obtained in Examples 1 to 4 and Comparative Examples 1 and 2 and the rubbing direction of the alignment film, and the determination result. . In FIG. 7, even if the angle (θ−φ) formed between the extending direction of the routing wiring and the rubbing direction of the alignment film is outside the range of −90 degrees to 90 degrees (specific example) (Data within a range of ± 90 to ± 95 degrees) is also displayed together. In FIG. 7, the ● mark indicates raw data.

(Details of abnormal lighting test and criteria for test results)
Here, the contents of the abnormal lighting test performed in Examples 1 to 4 and Comparative Examples 1 and 2 and the determination method of the test result will be described.
[0080]
<Contents of abnormal lighting test>
The liquid crystal panels prepared in Examples 1 to 4 and Comparative Examples 1 and 2 were mounted, turned on so that the entire surface was green-displayed by adding electric charge, and abnormal lighting in each lead wiring area was visually observed.
[0081]
<Criteria>
The test results were determined based on the following criteria. In addition, abnormal lighting is prevented in the routing wiring area where the determination result is 3 or more, and it is determined that the display wiring area has excellent display quality. In all the routing wiring areas, the liquid crystal panel whose determination result is 3 or more is abnormally lit. It was determined that the display quality was excellent.
5: Good No abnormal lighting was observed visually.
4: Good A slight abnormal lighting was observed visually.
3: Acceptable Slightly abnormal lighting was observed visually.
2: Not possible Abnormal lighting was observed visually.
1: NG Abnormal lighting was clearly observed visually.
[Table 1]
[0082]
(result)
In FIG. 7, there is a predetermined relationship between the angle (θ−φ) between the extending direction of the routing wiring and the rubbing direction of the alignment film and the abnormal lighting, as indicated by the mark ●, and the extension of the routing wiring. It was found that the angle (θ−φ) formed between the current direction and the rubbing direction of the alignment film has the same determination result if the absolute values are the same.
[0083]
Therefore, in FIG. 7, there is data of α degrees (however, −90 ≦ α ≦ 90) at an angle (θ−φ) between the extending direction of the lead wiring and the rubbing direction of the alignment film, and −α For those with no degree data, the same judgment result as that for α degrees was plotted with ◇ at −α degrees.
[0084]
As shown in FIG. 7, when the angle (θ−φ) between the extending direction of the routing wiring and the rubbing direction of the alignment film is within a predetermined range including 0 degrees, that is, the extending direction of the routing wiring If the rubbing direction of the alignment film is in a substantially parallel relationship, the determination is 5 and the abnormal lighting is most unlikely to occur. On the other hand, the angle (θ−φ) between the extending direction of the lead wiring and the rubbing direction of the alignment film Was found to be 1 and the abnormal lighting was most likely to occur.
[0085]
More specifically, the angle (θ−φ) formed between the extending direction of the routing wiring and the rubbing direction of the alignment film was 5 within a range of 0 to ± 17 degrees.
[0086]
In addition, when the angle (θ−φ) between the extending direction of the routing wiring and the rubbing direction of the alignment film is within a range of 0 to ± 45 degrees, the extending direction of the routing wiring and the rubbing direction of the alignment film are formed. As the angle (θ−φ) deviates from 0 to ± 17 degrees, abnormal lighting tends to occur, and the angle (θ−φ) between the extending direction of the routing wiring and the rubbing direction of the alignment film becomes ± about 25 degrees. The determination results were 3, 2, and 1 at ± about 30 degrees and ± about 45 degrees, respectively. It should be noted that there is no actual data on the determination result that the angle (θ−φ) formed between the extending direction of the lead wiring and the rubbing direction of the alignment film is ± about 25 degrees, and it was determined from the graph of FIG.
[0087]
Further, when the angle (θ−φ) formed between the extending direction of the routing wiring and the rubbing direction of the alignment film is within a range of ± about 45 to ± 75 degrees, the extending direction of the routing wiring and the rubbing direction of the alignment film As the angle (θ−φ) formed is deviated from ± about 45 ° and approaches ± 75 °, the occurrence of abnormal lighting is suppressed, and the angle formed between the extending direction of the lead wiring and the rubbing direction of the alignment film (θ− When φ) is ± about 45 degrees, ± about 60 degrees, and ± about 75, the determination results are 1, 2, and 3, respectively.
[0088]
In addition, when the angle (θ−φ) between the extending direction of the lead wiring and the rubbing direction of the alignment film is within a range of ± about 75 to ± 90 degrees, the judgment result is not changed and the judgment result is 3. It was. As shown in FIG. 7, when the angle (θ−φ) between the extending direction of the routing wiring and the rubbing direction of the alignment film is within a range of ± about 75 to about 90 degrees, the extending direction of the routing wiring As a result, abnormal lighting is slightly more likely to occur than when the angle (θ−φ) between the alignment film and the rubbing direction of the alignment film is in the range of 0 to ± 17 degrees.
[0089]
From the results shown in FIG. 7, the angle (θ−φ) formed between the extending direction of the lead wiring and the rubbing direction of the alignment film is set to 0 to ± 25 degrees, or ± 75 to ± 90 degrees. It was found that the determination result can be obtained and abnormal lighting can be prevented to the extent that there is no problem as a product.
[0090]
Therefore, in Examples 1 to 4 in which all the angles (θ−φ) between the extending direction of the lead wiring and the rubbing direction of the alignment film are set to 0 to ± 25 degrees, or ± 75 to ± 90 degrees, all In the lead wiring area, abnormal lighting was prevented, and a liquid crystal panel with excellent display quality was obtained. On the other hand, Comparative Example 1 in which the angle (θ−φ) formed between the extending direction of the lead wiring and the rubbing direction of the alignment film is set to be greater than ± 25 degrees and less than ± 75 degrees in a part of the lead wiring areas. In No. 2, abnormal lighting occurred in a part of the wiring area, and a liquid crystal panel having excellent display quality could not be obtained.
[0091]
(Discussion)
Here, the angle (θ−φ) formed between the extending direction of the routing wiring and the rubbing direction of the alignment film is 0 to ± 17 degrees (that is, the extending direction of the routing wiring and the rubbing direction of the alignment film are substantially parallel to each other. Abnormal lighting is most unlikely to occur, and when it is ± about 45 degrees, abnormal lighting is most likely to occur, and when it is ± about 75 to about 90 degrees (that is, the extending direction of the routing wiring and the rubbing of the alignment film) Consider the reason why abnormal lighting is more likely to occur when the direction is approximately vertical).
[0092]
First, the case where the extending direction of the routing wiring and the rubbing direction of the alignment film are in a substantially parallel relationship and a substantially vertical relationship will be described with reference to FIG. In FIG. 8,
[0093]
FIG. 8A is a cross-sectional view showing a case where the extending direction of the routing wiring and the rubbing direction of the alignment film are in a substantially parallel relationship, and FIG. 8B shows the extending direction of the routing wiring and the rubbing direction of the alignment film. It is sectional drawing which shows the case where is in a substantially perpendicular relationship. 8A and 8B are cross-sectional views when cut in a direction perpendicular to the extending direction of the lead wiring. Further, FIG. 8A shows a state in which the liquid crystal molecules are aligned in a direction perpendicular to the paper surface. In any case, the transverse electric field is generated in an arc shape between the surfaces of the adjacent routing wires.
[0094]
As shown in FIG. 8A, when the extending direction of the lead wiring and the rubbing direction of the alignment film are in a substantially parallel relationship, the
[0095]
As described above, when the extending direction of the lead wiring and the rubbing direction of the alignment film are in a substantially parallel relationship, both the tilt angle and the twist angle of the liquid crystal molecules are not easily affected by the lateral electric field, and thus abnormal discharge occurs. Is considered to be difficult to occur.
[0096]
On the other hand, as shown in FIG. 8B, in the case where the extending direction of the routing wiring and the rubbing direction of the alignment film are in a substantially vertical relationship, the
[0097]
In this way, when the extending direction of the routing wiring and the rubbing direction of the alignment film are in a substantially vertical relationship, the tilt angle of the liquid crystal molecules is affected by the lateral electric field, so that abnormal discharge is likely to occur somewhat. It is done.
[0098]
Next, the case where the angle formed between the extending direction of the lead wiring and the rubbing direction of the alignment film is ± 45 degrees will be described. When the angle formed between the extending direction of the routing wiring and the rubbing direction of the alignment film is ± about 45 degrees, the electric field direction of the lateral electric field and the alignment direction of the liquid crystal molecules are on a plane shifted by about 45 degrees. The influence of the horizontal electric field on the tilt angle of the liquid crystal molecules is intermediate between the case where the extending direction of the routing wiring and the rubbing direction of the alignment film are in a substantially vertical relationship and in the case of a substantially parallel relationship. It is considered that the tilt angle of molecules changes under the influence of a transverse electric field. Further, although the lateral electric field generated between adjacent routing lines is very small, it is considered that the liquid crystal molecules can be twisted by about 45 degrees along the electric field direction.
[0099]
As described above, when the angle between the extending direction of the lead wiring and the rubbing direction of the alignment film is ± 45 degrees, both the tilt angle and the twist angle of the liquid crystal molecules change due to the influence of the lateral electric field. Therefore, it is considered that abnormal lighting is most likely to occur.
[0100]
【The invention's effect】
As described above, according to the present invention, on the surface of at least one substrate, the angle formed between the extending direction of the routing wiring located inside the sealing material and the rubbing direction of the alignment film is 0 to ± 25 degrees, or By setting to ± 75 to ± 90 degrees, abnormal lighting can be prevented, and a liquid crystal device with excellent display quality can be provided.
[0101]
In addition, in a passive matrix liquid crystal device, abnormal lighting tends to occur particularly on the signal electrode side. Therefore, at least on the surface of the substrate on which the signal electrode is formed, the extending direction of the routing wiring located inside the sealing material And the angle formed by the rubbing direction of the alignment film is preferably set to 0 to ± 25 degrees, or ± 75 to ± 90 degrees.
[0102]
In addition, by providing the liquid crystal device of the present invention, abnormal lighting can be prevented and an electronic device with excellent display quality can be provided.
