携帯電話装置やPDA(Personal Digital Assistant)等の携帯電子機器は多くが液晶表示部を有している。この表示を保護する透明カバーは単調な透明板であり、意匠的に乏しいものであった。このために、透明カバーの周縁を着色することが考えられた(例えば、特許文献1参照。)。

【課題を解決するための手段】
本発明はこのような問題点を解決する為のものであり、光を放射する発光部を有する表示部と、該表示部の前方に配置され表面が露出する透光性のカバーを有する携帯電子機器において、前記カバーの裏面の縁部に光を反射する反射体を設け、該反射体に対向する表面と側面とで形成される稜を面取りし、前記表示部から発せられた光が前記反射体により反射して前記面取りされた部分が光ることを特徴とする。

【発明の実施の形態】
本発明の実施の形態を、携帯電話装置を例に説明する。図1は携帯電話装置の正面図である。携帯電話装置は電話に係る情報を表示する表示部(1)を有する。

図2は表示部(1)の部分断面図(図1のA−A’断面)である。液晶パネル(10)は透過型のCLDであり、バックライトを必要とする。バックライトの光源としてLED(11)が液晶パネル(10)の後方下部に配設される。LEDから発せられた光は導光板(12)、拡散シート(13)、第1,第2のBEF(Brightness Enhancement Film、別名:プリズムシート)(14)(15)を介して液晶パネル(10)に入射される。

詳しく説明すると、図3の如く、導光板(12)の背面(図3の右方側の面)は斜めになっており、LED(11)から遠ざかるに従って導光板(12)の肉厚が薄くなっている。そして、導光板(12)の背面にはくさび状の切欠き(121)が縦横に形成されており、その背面側に反射シート(16)が配設される。この切欠き(121)と反射シート(16)により、LED(11)から発せられた光が乱射する。反射シート(16)から出射した光は拡散シート(13)により拡散し、第1,第2のBEF(14)(15)に入射する。
