本発明は、主として馬鈴薯等の芋類を芽が残るように小さく切断して栽培用の種芋を連続的に得る農作物連続切断装置に関する。

従来、馬鈴薯等の芋類の栽培においては、種子として通常の大きさに生育した種芋を所定の大きさに切断して畑に植える農法が確立しており、農家は植え付け時期になると一個一個種芋を包丁等の刃物を使用して手作業で切断している。
ところで、種芋には発芽する芽が頭上から発芽し易い順序で一番芽,二番芽という具合に螺旋状に配置されているので、切断後の種芋には必ず発芽に優位な芽が残るように確認しながら切断する必要がある。また、種芋は高価であるから、経済的効果を考慮して二つ切りや四つ切りなど種芋の大きさや芽の数に応じて異なる切り方をする必要もある。
そこで、出願人はこのような問題点に鑑み、無端の送りコンベアに農作物を保持して搬送する保持台を所定間隔をおいて複数設け、送りコンベアの所定位置の上方に刃物を昇降自在に設け、刃物の下方に保持台が到来したときに刃物を送りコンベアの搬送方向に移動しながら下降させて保持台上の農作物を切断し切断後上昇させる昇降手段を設け、農作物を送りコンベアで搬送しながら連続的に切断できるようにした農作物連続切断装置を開発し、実用に供している。
