BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to an optical waveform shaping circuit for collectively shaping a wavelength multiplexed signal light.
[0002]
[Prior art]
In an optical transmission system, the waveform of the transmitted optical signal is affected by various factors such as attenuation in the optical fiber transmission line, addition of spontaneous emission light noise in the optical amplifier, dispersion in the optical fiber transmission line, and intersymbol interference due to optical nonlinear effects. Deterioration occurs. Therefore, an optical amplifier and an identification regenerative repeater that performs waveform regeneration are arranged at appropriate intervals in the optical fiber transmission line.
[0003]
On the other hand, wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) for transmitting a plurality of optical signals having different wavelengths through one optical fiber transmission line is actively used in order to meet the recent demand for an increase in transmission capacity. In such a wavelength division multiplexing transmission system, an optical amplifier, an identification regenerative repeater, and the like are similarly required.

On the other hand, a waveform shaping technique for reducing intensity fluctuation of an optical signal has been proposed (Japanese Patent Laid-Open No. 11-284261). Although this technique does not include a retiming function, it has a feature that it can suppress intensity noise of an optical signal with a simple configuration. The principle of intensity noise suppression will be described with reference to FIG.

[0011]
It is an object of the present invention to provide an optical waveform shaping circuit capable of collectively suppressing intensity noise components of each channel generated during transmission of wavelength multiplexed signal light in a wavelength division multiplexing transmission system.
[0012]
[Means for Solving the Problems]
The optical waveform shaping circuit of the present invention is an optical amplifier having a gain band for collectively amplifying all channels of wavelength multiplexed signal light, and wavelength multiplexed signal light amplified by the optical amplifier, and the fiber length is longer than the soliton period. Discrete (periodic) transmission including the center wavelength of the optical pulse signal of each channel by inputting the nonlinear optical fiber with the characteristic that the average chromatic dispersion becomes anomalous dispersion and the wavelength multiplexed signal light that has passed through the nonlinear optical fiber A demultiplexing filter and multiplexing filter that demultiplexes and re-multiplexes the optical pulse signals of each channel at once, and the peak power of the optical pulse signal of each channel incident on the nonlinear optical fiber is higher than the basic soliton power. Optical power control means for controlling the power so as to be large and not more than twice the basic soliton power.
Here, the nonlinear optical fiber is formed by alternately connecting a plurality of anomalous dispersion optical fibers and a plurality of normal dispersion optical fibers, the average dispersion slope is small, and the average chromatic dispersion indicates anomalous dispersion. The total length of the dispersion optical fiber and one normal dispersion optical fiber is sufficiently shorter than the soliton period, and the entire fiber length is longer than the soliton period.
[0013]
As a result, the intensity noise superimposed on the wavelength multiplexed signal light is converted into fluctuations in the spectral width for each channel by passing through the nonlinear optical fiber, and by filtering the fluctuations in the spectral width with a demultiplexing filter, The intensity noise of each channel of the wavelength multiplexed signal light can be collectively removed.
[0015]
The optical power control means monitors the power of the optical pulse signal of each channel demultiplexed by the demultiplexing filter and controls the peak power of the optical pulse signal of each channel incident on the nonlinear optical fiber. Alternatively, use an optical spectrum analyzer that detects the power of the optical pulse signal of each channel by inputting the wavelength multiplexed signal light of the input of the nonlinear optical fiber, the output of the nonlinear optical fiber, or the output of the multiplexing filter. In this configuration, the peak power of the optical pulse signal of each channel incident on the channel is controlled.
[0016]
The optical power control means also controls the gain of the optical amplifier and the equalizer provided at the input stage of the nonlinear optical fiber according to the monitoring result of the power of the optical pulse signal of each channel. In this configuration, at least one of the control for flattening the peak power is performed.
