また、上述したCD、DVDの他に、種々の規格の光ディスク、例えば、CD−R(追記型コンパクトディスク)、LD(レーザディスク)、MD(ミニディスク)、MO(光磁気ディスク)なども商品化されて普及している。

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to an optical pickup device capable of recording and / or reproducing (recording / reproducing) a plurality of optical information recording media having different thicknesses of transparent substrates with one condensing optical system.
[0002]
[Prior art]
In recent years, along with the practical application of short-wavelength red semiconductor lasers, high-density optical information recording media that have the same size and capacity as CDs (compact discs), which are conventional optical information recording media (also called optical discs). Development of a certain DVD (also referred to as a digital video disc or a digital versatile disc) is progressing. In this DVD, the numerical aperture NA on the optical disk side of the objective lens when a short wavelength semiconductor laser of 635 nm is used is set to 0.6. Note that the DVD has a track pitch of 0.74 μm and a shortest pit length of 0.4 μm, and has a density less than half that of a CD track pitch of 1.6 μm and the shortest pit length of 0.83 μm. In addition to the above-mentioned CD and DVD, optical discs of various standards such as CD-R (write-once compact disc), LD (laser disc), MD (mini disc), MO (magneto-optical disc), etc. Has become popular. Table 1 shows the thickness of the transparent substrate of various optical disks and the required numerical aperture.
[0003]
[Table 1]
[0004]
For CD-R, the light source wavelength λ needs to be 780 (nm). However, in other optical disks, light sources having wavelengths other than the light source wavelengths described in Table 1 can be used. The required numerical aperture NA varies depending on the light source wavelength λ to be used. For example, the required numerical aperture NA = λ (μm) /1.73 for a CD, and the required numerical aperture NA = λ (μm) /1.06 for a DVD.
[0005]
As described above, there is an era in which various optical discs having different sizes, substrate thicknesses, recording densities, operating wavelengths, and the like exist in the market, and optical pickup apparatuses that can handle various optical discs have been proposed.
[0006]
As one of them, there has been proposed an optical pickup device that includes a condensing optical system corresponding to each of different optical disks and switches the condensing optical system depending on the optical disk to be reproduced. However, this optical pickup device requires a plurality of condensing optical systems, leading to high costs, and requires a driving mechanism for switching the condensing optical system, which complicates the device and requires switching accuracy. Absent.
[0007]
Therefore, various optical pickup apparatuses that reproduce a plurality of optical disks using one condensing optical system have been proposed.
[0008]
As one of them, Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open No. 9-184975 proposes an optical pickup device in which an objective lens is provided with a slight step concentric with the optical axis. In this pickup device, the light beam emitted from the light source is divided into two regions, a first region on the optical axis side and a third region outside the step, and the first region is used for CD recording / reproduction. / Reproduction is performed by the light fluxes passing through the first area and the third area, thereby attempting to record / reproduce two optical disks, DVD and CD, using one condensing optical system (hereinafter referred to as this The condensing optical system is called a two-region condensing optical system, and when applied to an objective lens, this objective lens is called a two-region objective lens).
[0009]
Also, in the lecture number OFA3-1 in “International Symposium on Optical Memory and Optical Data Storage 1996”, an optical pickup device in which a shielding ring concentric with the optical axis is provided on the objective lens is proposed. In this pickup device, the light beam emitted from the light source is divided into three areas, a first area on the optical axis side from the shielding ring, a shielding area by the shielding ring, and a third area outside the shielding ring, and recording of a CD is performed. The first area near the optical axis is used for reproduction / reproduction with a light beam passing through the first area and the third area for recording / reproduction of DVD, so that two DVDs and two CDs can be obtained using one condensing optical system. One optical disk is to be recorded / reproduced (hereinafter, this condensing optical system is referred to as a shielded condensing optical system, and when applied to an objective lens, this objective lens is referred to as a shielded objective lens).
[0010]
An optical pickup device equipped with the two-region condensing optical system and the shielding condensing optical system makes the wavefront aberration (spherical aberration) discontinuous by a step or a shielding ring, and the recording of the transparent substrate of the DVD during CD recording / reproduction. It is intended to reduce the influence of flare caused by spherical aberration caused by the difference between the thickness and the thickness of the CD transparent substrate.
[0011]
[Problems to be solved by the invention]
Since these optical pickup devices use a single light source having a short wavelength (λ = 635 nm), the required numerical aperture during CD reproduction may be as small as NA = 0.367, so that the diffraction limit performance is improved. Can be played and DVDs and CDs can be played. Here, instead of CD, if it is going to use two light sources to correspond to CD-R, the required numerical aperture NA = 0.45 at the time of reproduction of CD-R is required, which is the same as when corresponding to LD or the like. In addition, high NA is required.
[0012]
However, in the two-region condensing optical system, in order to cope with high NA, it is necessary to increase the thickness of the design substrate and move the position of the step to a high NA region. The spot shape deteriorates and the DVD cannot be played. In the shielding condensing optical system, the diffraction limit performance is barely satisfied at the numerical aperture NA = 0.367, so that the diffraction limit performance can be satisfied by moving the position of the shielding ring to a higher NA region. Cannot be played.
[0013]
Accordingly, the present invention provides an optical pickup device capable of recording / reproducing a plurality of optical information recording media having different transparent substrate thicknesses with a single condensing optical system, and capable of corresponding to high NA. Let it be an issue.
[0014]
In consideration of the above, the present inventors have proposed an optical pickup device in which an objective lens is provided with at least two steps concentrically with the optical axis in Japanese Patent Application No. 9-97076. In this pickup device, the light beam emitted from the light source is divided into three regions, a first region near the optical axis, a second region outside the first region, and a third region outside the second region. 2 Recording / reproduction of the optical disk is performed by the first area and the second area in the vicinity of the optical axis, and recording / reproduction of the first optical disk is performed by the light beam passing through the first area and the third area. A plurality of optical disks are recorded / reproduced using an optical system (hereinafter, this condensing optical system is referred to as a three-region condensing optical system, and this objective lens is referred to as a three-region objective lens when applied to an objective lens). However, in such an optical pickup device, when trying to cope with the second optical disk having a high NA, there is a problem that the light amount loss during recording / reproduction of the first optical disk becomes large.
[0015]
Accordingly, it is a further object of the present invention to satisfactorily perform recording / reproduction of the first optical disc even when it is compatible with the second optical disc having a high NA.
[0016]
[Means for Solving the Problems]
(1)A first light source that emits a light beam with a wavelength λ1 (nm), a second light source that emits a light beam with a wavelength λ2 (nm) (λ2> λ1), and at least one optical surface that is substantially concentric with respect to the optical axis. And a condensing optical system including an objective lens having a first region and a third region outside the first region, and recording or reproducing information on a first optical information recording medium having a thickness t1 of the transparent substrate Sometimes, the light beam having the wavelength λ1 emitted from the first light source is condensed on the information recording surface of the first optical information recording medium via the transparent substrate having the thickness t1 by the condensing optical system. At the time of recording or reproducing information on the second optical information recording medium having a thickness t2 (t2> t1), a light beam having a wavelength λ2 (nm) (λ2> λ1) emitted from the second light source is thickened by the condensing optical system. Condensed on the information recording surface of the second optical information recording medium through a transparent substrate of t2 In the optical pickup device, when recording or reproducing information on the first optical information recording medium, the first light source emits light from the first light source and passes through the first region and the third region. When recording or reproducing information on the optical information recording medium and recording or reproducing information on the second optical information recording medium, the light emitted from the second light source and passing through the first region The second optical information recording medium records or reproduces information, and at the time of recording or reproducing information on the first optical information recording medium, the second magnification is determined by the magnification m1 viewed from the optical information recording medium side of the objective lens. The magnification m2 viewed from the optical information recording medium side of the objective lens at the time of recording or reproducing information on the optical information recording medium is smaller. An optical pickup device characterized by that.
[0017]

[0047]
Here, in the following description, when one lens surface dividing portion is provided (two-region condensing optical system), the optical axis side from the lens surface dividing portion is the first region, and the outside is the third region. The numerical aperture on the optical disc side of the condensing optical system corresponding to the lens surface dividing unit is NA3. When two lens surface dividing portions are provided, the optical axis side is divided into the first region, the second lens surface dividing portion between the two lens surface dividing portions, and the outer lens surface dividing portion. The area outside the area is the third area, and the numerical aperture on the optical disc side of the condensing optical system corresponding to the lens dividing part on the optical axis side of these two lens surface dividing parts is NA3. The numerical aperture on the optical disc side of the corresponding condensing optical system is NA4. In the case where two lens surface dividing portions are provided, the second region is shielded by a shielding structure (light from the light source is absorbed, scattered, reflected, etc. (This structure is a shielding condensing optical system, and a case where no shielding structure is used is a three-region condensing optical system).
[0048]
Such a condensing optical system uses the light fluxes in the first area and the third area when recording / reproducing the first
[0049]
However, the two-region condensing optical system and the shielding condensing optical system in which the wavefront aberration (spherical aberration) is discontinuous cannot be applied to the second optical disk that requires a high NA. This is because when the image is formed on the information recording surface 22 'of the second optical disc 20' while maintaining the magnification m1 as viewed from the first optical disc side of the

If this lower limit is exceeded, that is, if the difference between the magnification m1 and the magnification m2 becomes large, the sine condition will change drastically, the off-axis characteristics deteriorate, and high accuracy is required when assembling the optical pickup device. The If this upper limit is exceeded, that is, if the difference between the magnification m1 and the magnification m2 becomes small, it becomes difficult to cope with a high NA.

Furthermore, in the present embodiment, since the wavefront aberration is skipped (discontinuous) in the lens surface dividing portion and the aperture limiting effect is also provided, in order to take advantage of this effect, when setting the magnification m2, The spherical aberration is made to remain without completely correcting the spherical aberration. For this reason, at the time of recording / reproduction of the second

In any condensing optical system, the first region may be divided into a plurality of parts. Further, in the shielding condensing optical system and the three-region condensing optical system, the second region is divided into a plurality of parts and a part of the first optical disc is divided into a plurality of parts in order to further improve the amount of light during recording / reproduction of the first optical disc.
