このような問題を解決するため、記録ヘッドをキャリッジの移動方向に垂直な方向に配置することも考えられるが、記録ヘッドが上下方向に並ぶため、水平方向に配置されたインクカートリッジとの間の水頭差が生じ、各記録ヘッドへのインク供給圧にばらつきが生じ、印字品質が低下するという問題がある。

このような課題を達成するために本発明においては、上下方向に複数の記録ヘッド高低差を設けて配置され、それぞれの前記記録ヘッドに同一のインクカートリッジからそれぞれインク供給チューブを介してインクを供給するインクジェット記録装置において、それぞれの前記記録ヘッドのインクの流入口側とそれぞれの前記インク供給チューブのインクの流出口側との間にそれぞれ弁機構が接続され、それぞれの前記弁機構は、表裏に差圧を受ける弁体と前記弁体を閉弁方向に付勢する付勢手段とにより構成され、それぞれの前記弁機構の付勢力は、前記流入口側と前記流出口側との間の差圧が、それぞれの前記記録ヘッドと前記インクカートリッジとの高低差による水頭圧と前記流入口側との差圧では前記弁体が閉弁状態を維持する一方、前記記録ヘッドのインクの消費により発生する規定値以上の負圧が前記流入口側に作用した場合の差圧では前記弁体が開弁し、また前記負圧が前記規定値よりも小さくなった場合に前記弁体が閉弁するように設定されていて、前記それぞれの弁機構の付勢力の間に前記複数の記録ヘッド間の高低差による水頭差に相当する差分を設けて前記複数の記録ヘッド間の高低差を補償して前記各記録ヘッドに均一な圧力でインクを供給するように構成されている。
