K= 2.667, A= 1.79E-07, B=-1.08E-12, C=-3.18E-14, D= 3.74E-18
K= 0.02 , A= 2.50E-07, B= 9.61E-12, C= 4.54E-15 ,D=-3.03E-18
K=-71.73, A= 4.33E-08, B=-5.97E-13, C=-1.28E-16, D= 5.73E-21

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to a multi-beam scanning device and an image forming apparatus using the same.
[0002]
[Prior art]
An image forming apparatus using optical scanning is widely known as a digital copying apparatus, an optical printer, an optical plotter, an optical plate making machine, or the like.
In order to increase the speed of image formation in such an image forming apparatus, it is indispensable to increase the image writing speed by optical scanning. However, if high speed is to be realized by single beam optical scanning, deflection that can be rotated at high speed. Need a bowl. A deflector capable of rotating at high speed is expensive in itself, and requires a powerful soundproofing means for reducing noise such as wind noise caused by high-speed rotation, resulting in a significant increase in cost of the optical scanning device.
[0003]
As a scanning method for increasing the image writing speed without increasing the rotation of the deflector, a multi-beam scanning method for simultaneously scanning a plurality of scanning lines by simultaneous deflection of a plurality of beams is being put into practical use.
In the multi-beam scanning apparatus, it is necessary for obtaining the target beam pitch (scan line interval) in terms of image quality. Recently, it is also intended to switch the scanning line density to a plurality of stages such as 400 dpi and 1200 dpi. In this case, it is necessary to switch the beam pitch according to the scanning line density.
[0004]
As described above, there is a need for a method of setting a target beam pitch or switching the beam pitch in accordance with switching of the scanning line density. As such a method, a plurality of light sources and coupling lenses are subjected to main scanning. A method of rotating about an axis perpendicular to the direction and the sub-scanning direction is known. This method has the advantage that it is possible to “change the beam pitch without changing the relative positional relationship between each light source and the coupling lens” and is less susceptible to environmental fluctuations.
[0005]
In an optical scanning device, in order to form a desired beam spot on a surface to be scanned, “beam regulation (beam shaping)” is generally performed by an aperture. From the viewpoint of beam regulation, when changing the beam pitch by the above method, it seems to be preferable to rotate the aperture integrally with the light source or the coupling lens. However, if the aperture is rotated integrally with the light source or coupling, the beam pitch deviation (deviation from the ideal value of the scanning line interval) due to the image height (position in the main scanning direction) of the beam spot increases, and the beam diameter It became clear through research of the inventor that it deteriorated.
[0006]
[Problems to be solved by the invention]
An object of the present invention is to effectively reduce the occurrence of beam pitch deviations associated with switching and adjustment of beam pitches in multi-beam scanning, and to realize a good beam diameter.
[0007]
[Means for Solving the Problems]
According to a first aspect of the present invention, a multi-beam scanning device includes a light source, a coupling lens, a deflector, an aperture, a scanning optical system, and a rotating unit.
A plurality of “light sources” (number equal to the number of scanning lines simultaneously scanned) are used. As each light source, a “semiconductor laser” can be preferably used. A semiconductor laser array in which a plurality of light emitting units are arranged in an array can also be used as a plurality of light sources.
The “coupling lens” couples divergent beams from a plurality of light sources (a beam form suitable for the subsequent optical system, for example, a parallel beam, a weak divergent beam, a weakly focused beam, etc.). The correspondence relationship between the coupling lens and the light source may be a 1: 1 correspondence relationship, or a single coupling lens may couple beams from a plurality of light sources. That is, when n is the number of light sources and m is the number of coupling lenses, n = m or n> m. In the latter case, one or more coupling lenses can be used. Will couple the beams from multiple light sources.
[0008]
The “deflector” deflects the beam emitted from the coupling lens. As the deflector, a known appropriate one such as a rotating polygon mirror, a rotating dihedral mirror, and a rotating single mirror can be appropriately used.
A plurality of “apertures” are used, which are positioned between the coupling lens and the deflector and perform beam regulation. A part of the aperture can be shared by a plurality of beams.
The “scanning optical system” is an optical system that guides the beam from the deflector onto the surface to be scanned. Each beam guided by the scanning optical system forms a beam spot on the surface to be scanned, and simultaneously scans a plurality of scanning lines.
The “rotating means” in the multi-beam scanning apparatus according to
[0009]
According to a second aspect of the present invention, the multi-beam scanning device includes a light source, a coupling lens, a deflector, an aperture, a scanning optical system, and a rotating unit. Among these, the light source, the coupling lens, the deflector, the aperture, and the scanning optical system are the same as those in the multi-beam scanning device according to
The “rotating means” in the multi-beam scanning device according to claim 2 is means for rotating the plurality of light sources, the coupling lens, and the aperture about at least an axis substantially perpendicular to the sub-scanning direction. That is, in the multi-beam scanning device according to claim 2, the rotating means rotates the aperture together with the plurality of light sources and the coupling lens. In this rotation, the rotation angle of the plurality of light sources and the rotation angle of the coupling lens are substantially the same, and the rotation angle of the plurality of apertures is different from the “rotation angle of the plurality of light sources and the coupling lens”.

Any of the multi-beam scanning devices according to the first to fourth aspects of the present invention can have a housing in which the scanning optical system and the deflector are mounted. In

The multi-beam scanning device according to any one of
The “deflection rotation surface” refers to a surface orthogonal to the rotation center axis of the deflector, and the opening angle is determined by projecting the principal rays of the two beams onto the deflection rotation surface. This is the angle that opens from the side toward the light source.
[0013]
The image forming apparatus according to the present invention is an "image forming apparatus that forms a latent image on a latent image carrier by optical scanning and develops the formed latent image to form an image", and optically scans the latent image carrier. As an optical scanning device that forms a latent image,Claims 1-7The multi-beam scanning device described in any one of (1) is used (Claim 8). As the latent image carrier, a “silver salt photographic film” or a “photoconductive photoreceptor” can be used. When a silver salt photographic film is used as a latent image carrier, a desired image can be obtained by developing a latent image formed by optical scanning with a multi-beam scanning device by a normal silver salt photographic process. Specifically, such an image forming apparatus can be implemented as an optical plate making machine.
[0014]
When a photoconductive photoconductor is used as the latent image carrier, an electrostatic latent image is formed by writing by optical scanning after the latent image carrier is uniformly charged, and the formed electrostatic latent image is developed. A toner image is obtained, and the toner image is fixed on a recording medium to form an image, thereby obtaining a desired image (Claim 9). As the photoconductive photoreceptor, a sheet-like material such as zinc oxide paper may be used. In this case, the toner image can be fixed using the latent image carrier itself as a recording medium. In addition, a toner image obtained by developing the electrostatic latent image formed on the latent image carrier can be transferred and fixed on a sheet-like recording medium (transfer paper, a plastic sheet for an overhead projector, or the like). The electrostatic latent image may be transferred to the sheet-like recording medium and then developed, and the resulting toner image may be fixed on the recording medium. The transfer of the toner image to the “sheet-shaped recording medium” may be performed directly from the latent image carrier to the recording medium, or may be performed via an intermediate transfer medium such as an intermediate transfer belt. Specifically, the image forming apparatus can be implemented as a digital copying machine, a digital plate making machine, an optical printer, or an optical plotter.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
FIG. 1 shows an embodiment of a multi-beam scanning apparatus according to the present invention. In this embodiment, “two-beam scanning” is performed, and two semiconductor lasers 1 a and 1 b are used as light sources. The beams emitted from the semiconductor lasers 1a and 1b are respectively coupled to the respective light sources by the
[0016]
The “surface of the drawing” in FIG. 1 is parallel to the deflection rotation surface described above. As shown in FIG. 1, the chief rays of the beams from the semiconductor lasers 1a and 1b gradually approach each other toward the deflecting / reflecting surface 5A, and the projection onto the deflecting / rotating surface is substantially “deflected / reflected” as shown in FIG. Intersect each other at “position of surface 5A”. Accordingly, the two beams incident on the deflecting / reflecting surface 5A have the angle α as the aforementioned opening angle in the deflecting rotation surface. In the embodiment being described, the opening angle: α is 3.1 degrees.
[0017]
Each beam reflected by the deflecting / reflecting surface 5A of the rotary polygon mirror 5 is deflected at an equal angular velocity when the rotary polygon mirror 5A rotates at a constant speed around the rotation axis 5B, and is transmitted through the
In FIG. 1, reference numeral 9 indicates “soundproof glass provided on the housing of the rotary polygon mirror 5”. A beam from the light source side enters the deflecting reflection surface 5A of the rotary polygon mirror 5 through the soundproof glass 9, and the deflected beam by the rotary polygon mirror 5 passes through the soundproof glass 9 and enters the scanning optical system.
[0018]
Hereinafter, specific optical data of the multi-scanning optical apparatus of FIG. 1 will be shown.
The semiconductor lasers 1a and 1b as light sources have an emission wavelength of 780 nm.
In the following notation, Rm: radius of curvature in the main scanning direction, Rs: radius of curvature in the sub-scanning direction, N: refractive index at the wavelength used (780 nm), and X: distance in the optical axis direction. The curvature radius of the surface having a non-arc shape represents a “paraxial curvature radius”. The unit having the dimension of length is “mm”.

In the above, the surface with “*” is a coaxial aspherical surface, and the surface with “**” is “a non-arc shape in the main scanning direction and the radius of curvature in the sub scanning direction is the lens height in the main scanning direction”. The above-mentioned “coaxial aspheric surface” includes coordinates in the optical axis direction: X, distance from the optical axis: Y, paraxial radius of curvature: R, constants: K, A, B, C, D,. . . . Is expressed by the following formula.

Assuming that 1 inch is 25.4 mm, one pitch of a beam pitch of 400 dpi is 25.4 / 400 = 0.0635 mm. Therefore, in this case, β = 5.0.
[0035]
Next, the beam pitch is switched to 1200 dpi as follows.
[0036]
One pitch corresponding to 1200 dpi is 25.4 / 1200 = 0.0212 mm. As shown in FIG. 1E, the plane including the optical axes AX1a and AX1b is rotated by an angle θ relative to the main scanning direction (shown by a broken line) (around an axis orthogonal to both the main and sub scanning directions). Then, the distance between the light emitting units 1a1 and 1ba in the sub-scanning direction is the distance D2 in the figure, but considering the combined lateral magnification β = 5.0, the rotation angle θ is adjusted. , Distance: D2 may be 0.00424 mm. In the first embodiment, the rotation angle θ is set to 30.1 ′ (minutes).

As described above, the “beam pitch deviation due to image height” in the state where the beam pitch is switched to 1200 dpi from the reference state of 400 dpi is very small as shown in FIG. An image can be formed.
FIG. 4B shows the “passing position (beam passing height) in the sub-scanning direction” of each beam emitted from the semiconductor lasers 1a (LD1) and 1b (LD2) in a state where the beam pitch is 1200 dpi. It is shown with respect to the optical path length on the optical path toward the scanning plane. As shown, the beam passing height in the sub-scanning direction of each beam passing through each optical element is small, and the incident angle of each beam on the image plane is small. Accordingly, changes in the beam pitch due to component errors and mounting errors are reduced. Further, since the “beam passing height” of each beam is small, there is little deterioration of wavefront aberration, and a good beam spot diameter can be realized for each beam.
[0040]
As a comparative example with respect to Example 1, when the beam pitch is switched from 400 dpi to 1200 dpi, the
Further, in this comparative example, with the beam pitch of 1200 dpi, the “beam passing height” in the sub-scanning direction of each beam emitted from the semiconductor lasers 1a (LD1) and 1b (LD2) is directed to the surface to be scanned. As shown with respect to the optical path length on the road, as shown in FIG. 5B, each beam has a large beam passing height and a large incident angle to the image plane. For this reason, the change of the beam pitch due to the component error and the mounting error is likely to be large, the wavefront aberration is easily deteriorated, and it is difficult to realize a good beam spot diameter.

Then, the “beam pitch deviation” at a beam pitch of 1200 dpi changes as shown in FIG. 6A together with the image height of the beam spot. That is, the beam pitch deviation is smaller and better than in the case of the first embodiment, and a better image can be formed.
[0043]
Further, the “beam passing height” in the sub-scanning direction of each beam emitted from the semiconductor lasers 1 a (LD 1) and 1 b (LD 2) with the beam pitch of 1200 dpi is the optical path length on the optical path toward the surface to be scanned. Is shown in FIG. 6 (b). The beam passing height passing through each optical element is small, and the incident angle to the image plane is also smaller than that in FIG. For this reason, the change of the beam pitch due to the component error and the mounting error is small, the deterioration of the wavefront aberration is reduced, and a good beam spot diameter can be realized.

When the aperture member 3A is not rotated, the change in the beam pitch deviation due to the image height at the adjusted beam pitch corresponding to 1200 dpi is as shown in FIG. 4A, and good image formation is possible. Further, the beam passing height at which each beam passes through the optical element changes as shown in FIG. 4B along with the optical path length, and the change in the beam pitch due to the component error and the mounting error is reduced, and the wavefront aberration is reduced. It is possible to realize a good beam spot diameter with little deterioration.

In the first and second embodiments, the rotating unit rotates the plurality of light sources and the coupling lens around at least an axis substantially perpendicular to the sub-scanning direction, so that the beam pitch in the sub-scanning direction on the surface to be scanned (400 dpi, In the third embodiment, the rotating means rotates the plurality of light sources and the coupling lens about at least an axis substantially perpendicular to the sub-scanning direction, so that the surface to be scanned is rotated. The beam pitch in the upper sub-scanning direction is adjusted to a desired pitch (1200 dpi).

In addition, as the interval between at least two main scanning directions among the plurality of apertures is larger, the relative positional deviation between the two light beams in the sub-scanning direction accompanying the rotation becomes larger, so the effect of the present invention becomes greater. Further, by separating the aperture in the main scanning direction, a multi-beam can be formed without using the synthesis prism.

【The invention's effect】
As described above, according to the present invention, a novel multi-beam scanning device and an image forming apparatus using the same can be realized.
The multi-beam scanning device of the present invention can effectively reduce beam pitch deviation and beam spot diameter degradation when the light source group and the coupling lens group are rotated to switch or adjust the beam pitch on the surface to be scanned. Even if the beam pitch is switched or adjusted, good multi-beam scanning can be performed.
The image forming apparatus of the present invention can form a good image by using the multi-beam scanning device.
