従って、材料切換時等の分解掃除の際は図4のように、スクリュ3をその駆動軸4とカップリング5により連結したまま機械本体6に残し、加熱バレル2のみ台車7に乗せて機械本体6から引き抜くようにしている。

しかしながら、バレル内で複数種の微粉体等の嵩比重の小さいプラスチック材料を効率良く加熱、混練および溶融させるためには複数種の材料をまとめて一カ所の供給口から一括供給するのではなく、プラスチック材料をバレル内に供給する材料供給口は2箇所以上設け、材料を別々に供給するることが良いとされ、そのような場合、スクリュ太径部が中間部分にあるためバレルからスクリュを挿入することができないという欠点があった。
