BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to a discharge bulb used for a vehicle headlamp, and more particularly to a discharge bulb configured to surround an arc tube substantially concentrically with a shroud tube.
[0002]
[Prior art]
Since discharge bulbs can be irradiated with high brightness, in recent years, discharge bulbs are often used for vehicle headlamps and the like.

The present invention has been made in view of such circumstances, and is a discharge bulb used for a vehicle headlamp configured to surround an arc tube substantially concentrically with a shroud tube. An object of the present invention is to provide a discharge bulb that can eliminate the risk of the arc tube portion of an arc tube bursting.
[0007]
[Means for Solving the Problems]
The present invention is intended to achieve the above object by devising the clearance from the shroud tube at a predetermined portion of the arc tube portion based on the result of elucidating the cause of the arc tube portion bursting.
[0008]
That is, the discharge bulb according to the present invention is
A discharge bulb used in a vehicle headlamp,
An arc tube in which a substantially elliptical arc tube portion bulges in the middle portion of the elongated glass tube extending in the horizontal direction and a pair of pinch seal portions are formed on both sides of the arc tube portion in the axial direction. A shroud tube that extends in the axial direction so as to surround the arc tube substantially concentrically and is welded to the arc tube at both ends in the axial direction, and an insulating plug that fixes and supports the arc tube and the shroud tube. In the provided discharge bulb,
A clearance g1 between the uppermost point on the outer peripheral surface of the arc tube portion and the inner peripheral surface of the shroud tube is:
g1 ≧ 0.3mm
Is set to
The clearance g1 is a clearance g2 between the lowest point on the outer peripheral surface of the arc tube portion and the inner peripheral surface of the shroud tube.
g1> g2
It is characterized by being set to.
[0010]
[Effects of the invention]
As shown in the above configuration, the discharge bulb according to the present invention has a clearance g1 between the uppermost point on the outer peripheral surface of the arc tube portion of the arc tube and the inner peripheral surface of the shroud tube substantially concentrically surrounding the arc tube. Since g1 ≧ 0.3 mm is set, the following operational effects can be obtained.
[0011]
That is, if the arc tube portion of the arc tube is in contact with the shroud tube, when the discharge bulb is turned on, a thermal fogging phenomenon occurs in the vicinity of the contact portion in the arc tube portion. In general, a shroud tube contains a dopant for the purpose of cutting off ultraviolet rays or the like, but a phenomenon occurs in which the dopant diffuses to the arc tube portion through the contact portion. Then, due to the thermal clouding phenomenon and the dopant diffusion phenomenon, a rapid devitrification occurs in the vicinity of the contact portion in the arc tube portion, and as a result, a large number of microcracks are generated in the portion. As a result, the arc tube portion bursts.
[0012]
By the way, the temperature of the arc tube portion of the arc tube when the discharge bulb is lit varies depending on the portion, and the upper end portion thereof is highest at about 1000 ° C. Therefore, when the arc tube portion comes into contact with the shroud tube at the upper end portion, the thermal fogging phenomenon and the dopant diffusion phenomenon are most prominent, and the arc tube portion is easily ruptured.
[0013]
For this reason, it is effective in preventing the arc tube portion from bursting to prevent the upper end portion of the arc tube portion from contacting the shroud tube. However, in that case, it is not sufficient to simply make non-contact, and in the case of extremely close proximity, the arc tube part may rupture, based on the results of experiments conducted by the inventors. It was revealed. The cause is that, even when the discharge bulb is not lit, the upper end of the arc tube portion and the shroud tube are not in contact with each other. This is thought to be due to contact.
[0014]
As a result of this experiment, if the clearance g1 between the uppermost point on the outer peripheral surface of the arc tube portion and the inner peripheral surface of the shroud tube is set to g1 ≧ 0.3 mm as in the present invention, the occurrence of rupture of the arc tube portion is caused. It became clear that it was possible to prevent it.
[0015]
As described above, according to the present invention, in the discharge bulb used for the vehicle headlamp, which is configured to surround the arc tube substantially concentrically with the shroud tube, the arc tube of the arc tube bursts during lighting. It is possible to eliminate the risk of being lost.
[0016]
Moreover, in a discharge bulb used for a vehicle headlamp, it is often difficult to secure a clearance of 0.3 mm or more over the entire circumference of the outer peripheral surface of the arc tube portion and the inner peripheral surface of the shroud tube. As in the vehicle headlamp according to the present invention, the clearance g1 between the uppermost point on the outer peripheral surface of the arc tube portion and the inner peripheral surface of the shroud tube is set to the clearance between the lowermost point on the outer peripheral surface of the arc tube portion and the shroud tube. It is effective to set g1> g2 with respect to the clearance g2 with the inner peripheral surface and preferentially secure the clearance at the upper end portion where the temperature is highest in the arc tube portion.
[0017]
In the above configuration, the upper limit of the clearance g1 between the uppermost point on the outer peripheral surface of the arc tube portion and the inner peripheral surface of the shroud tube is not particularly limited as long as g1 ≧ 0.3 mm. It is preferable to set ≦ 3.0 mm for the following reasons.
[0018]
That is, when the discharge bulb is lit, the arc tube is kept warm by the shroud tube that surrounds it, but if the shroud tube is too far away from the arc tube, the heat retention effect is diminished and the luminous flux decreases rapidly. Resulting in. Therefore, the clearance g1 is preferably set to g1 ≦ 3.0 mm.
[0019]
Further, in the above configuration, if the arc tube and the shroud tube are fixedly supported to the insulating plug at an angular position where both pinch seal portions extend flat in the horizontal direction with respect to the axis of the arc tube, Such effects can be obtained.
[0020]
That is, the pinch seal part is formed by pressing an elongated glass tube into which an electrode assembly is inserted from both sides. At that time, the elongated glass tube is deformed into a flat shape, and accordingly, the arc tube part is slightly changed. While transforming from an elliptical sphere to a flat elliptical sphere. Therefore, if the arc tube is fixedly supported to the insulating plug of the arc tube at an angular position where both the pinch seal portions extend flat in the substantially horizontal direction with respect to the axis of the arc tube, the arc tube portion has a small outer diameter dimension. Can be arranged at the upper end. Thus, even when the inner diameter of the shroud tube is small, it is relatively easy to set the clearance g1 between the uppermost point on the outer peripheral surface of the arc tube portion and the inner peripheral surface of the shroud tube to be g1 ≧ 0.3 mm. It becomes.
[0021]
Moreover, since both pinch seal portions are pressed so as to extend flat in a substantially horizontal direction, the vertical displacement of the electrodes of both electrode assemblies can be reduced, thereby improving the light distribution characteristics of the lamp. it can.
[0022]
Here, the “substantially horizontal direction” means a direction within ± 5 ° with respect to the horizontal plane.
