図1及び図2は、本発明に基づき構成された自動車用のキー装置を示している。このキー装置は、イモビライザーシステムが適用されたイグニッションスイッチ操作用として構成されたものであり、金属板の打ち抜き成形等にて形成されたキープレート1と、電子部品としてのトランスポンダ2を保持すると共にキープレート1の柄部1aに開設された受容孔3に受容された合成樹脂製の保持部材4と、これら柄部1a及び保持部材4を覆うようにインサートモールド成形によって形成された軟質エラストマ材による把持部5とからなっている。

トランスポンダ2は、図3に示すように、両端を丸めた形状に閉じられたガラス管に、コイルアンテナ6とコード信号発信回路7とを封入してなっている。コイルアンテナ6は、キーシリンダのキー孔を外囲するように設けられたキーシリンダ側コイル(図示せず)との間で、電波信号の授受を行うものである。すなわち、キープレート1の軸部1bをキーシリンダのキー孔に差し込んでON位置にすると、キーシリンダ側のコイルから電波が発信され、この電波をトランスポンダ2のコイルアンテナ6が受信する。すると、電磁誘導作用によってコイルアンテナ6に起電力が生じ、この電力がコード信号発信回路7に供給されて、予め記憶されている固有コードに応じた電波信号が、コイルアンテナ6から発信される。このコイルアンテナ6から発信された固有コード信号は、キーシリンダ側のコイルで受信され、予め記憶されている暗証コードと比較照合され、互いのコードが一致したならば、正規のキーであると判断して、エンジンの作動を可能にする。一方、上記コードが不一致の場合には、エンジンの作動を行わないようにする。
