従来、建築構造物の歩行者用通路である階段に隣接あるいは載置して乗客コンベアを設置した通路設備は、特開平7−189449号公報や特開昭59−190179 号公報に開示され、知られている。

【発明が解決しようとする課題】
上記従来技術の前者は、階設それに隣接する乗客コンベアとの配置構成、もしくは階段の上部に、この階段の最上段付近の階段を削除(部分撤去作業を伴う)することを条件に乗客コンベアを載置する形で設置する構成が開示されている。そして、この例は基本的に階段用手摺の取付構成を主題としたものであり、乗客コンベアの設置に伴う付帯工事(階段の削除)範囲を縮減し、結果として設置工期短縮やコストミニマム化を図ることへの配慮はなかった。また、階段の削除に伴う元々の階段全体の強度低下をもたらすことへの配慮もなされていない。
