被覆層120は、コア112の表面に直接被覆されたHVT(High Temperature Vulcanization)シリコーンゴムからなる下地層113と、その外側に被覆されたRTV(Room Temperature Vulcanization)シリコーンゴムからなるトップコート層114とを積層したものである。
【0004】

[Problems to be solved by the invention]

[0018]
Although the cause is not clear at present, the present inventors have made the following hypothesis.
When fixing an unfixed toner image on a low-permeability sheet such as coated paper, the air present in the unfixed toner layer has a low pressure in the nip, that is, the pressure applying member and the pressure applying member. Stay in the boundary area with the roll. This air partially creates a gap at the interface between the sheet and the fixing roll and disturbs the toner image that has not been completely fixed.
[0019]
In the case of plain paper, since the air permeability is large, the air present in the toner layer is retained inside the plain paper, which is a porous material having a large volume, or escapes by passing through the paper. It is considered that the occurrence of the occurrence is small. Comparing the occurrence of image disturbance between plain paper and coated paper with the load of the pressure applying member and the temperature of the overheating fixing roller being almost constant, image disturbance is more likely to occur in coated paper, and air permeability among coated paper is also higher. It was found that the smaller the value of, the more likely the image disturbance was to occur.
[0020]
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION The present invention has been made in view of the above problems, and an object of the present invention is to prevent image quality deterioration due to expansion of air in a belt nip and generation of water vapor, and to stably operate without being affected by the type of recording sheet. To provide a fixing device capable of fixing a toner image by using the fixing device.
[0021]
[Means for Solving the Problems]
In order to solve the above problem, a fixing device according to the invention according to
[0022]
According to a second aspect of the present invention, in the fixing device according to the first aspect, in a maximum pressure region acting on a pressure contact surface of the pressure applying member, the viscosity of the toner is changed from a glassy state to a rubbery state by the heat fixing roll. It is assumed that it has been heated to a temperature at which it transitions to the state in which it occurs.
[0023]
According to a third aspect of the present invention, in the fixing device according to the first or second aspect,
The pressure applying member, Low above the elastic layer It is assumed that a friction layer is provided.
[0024]
According to a fourth aspect of the present invention, in the fixing device according to any one of the first to third aspects, a shape of a pressure contact surface of the pressure applying member is from an upstream side in a state of not being pressed against the endless belt. It is assumed that the curvature radius is set so as to gradually decrease.
[0025]
According to a fifth aspect of the present invention, in the fixing device according to the third or fourth aspect, the elastic body hardness near the pressure contact surface of the pressure applying member is set low on the upstream side and high on the downstream rear end side. Shall be
[0026]
According to a sixth aspect of the present invention, in the fixing device according to any one of the third to fifth aspects, a protruding portion that presses the endless belt near a rear end surface of the elastic layer of the pressure applying member. It is assumed that
[0027]
According to a seventh aspect of the present invention, in the fixing device according to the sixth aspect, the projecting portion is provided on the pressure applying member. Supported by elastic layer It is assumed to be a rod-shaped hard member.
[0028]
According to an eighth aspect of the present invention, in the fixing device according to any one of the third to seventh aspects, an elasticity generated by a pressure from a pressure contact surface of the pressure applying member is provided on a rear end side surface of the pressure applying member. It is assumed that it has a reinforcing plate for suppressing body deformation.
[0029]
As described above, based on the basic idea that the fluid moves from the higher pressure to the lower pressure, the present inventors have found that the pressure distribution of the pressure applying member is low at the nip inlet side, and the pressure distribution increases toward the downstream side. Is set so that the pressure rises and reaches a maximum pressure on the downstream side of the pressure applying member, thereby preventing image disturbance of the coated paper.
Further, in the maximum pressure region, if the toner is heated to a temperature at which the viscosity of the toner changes from a glassy state to a rubbery state, an adhesive force is generated between the toner particles, and the toner particles easily move. Gone.
[0030]
In this way, the air degassed from the inside of the toner layer has a lower pressure, that is, the maximum pressure region of the pressure applying member is kept as far as possible from the nip inlet, and the pressure increases from the nip inlet side to the downstream side. It flows toward the nip entrance and escapes into the atmosphere. When there is a portion where the pressure is lower than the surroundings in a part of the pressure distribution of the pressure applying member as in the conventional example, that is, in a configuration in which the pressure does not increase toward the downstream side of the nip, the portion is sandwiched by a large pressure. The air flows into the low-pressure portion, and the retained air moves around, thereby disturbing the image.
[0031]
Generally, when fixing is performed on a permeable sheet such as plain paper, the pressure of the pressure applying member is a predetermined value (approximately 0.3 kg / cm) over the entire area. 2 If the above conditions are satisfied, the air does not escape through the sheet or is trapped in the sheet, and the air does not stay in the region between the two maximum pressures. However, in the case of a sheet having low air permeability such as coated paper, the air expanded in the toner layer cannot escape, so that it is difficult to eliminate the air stagnation even if the pressure of the pressure applying member is increased. . In particular, in the case of color fixing, the toner particles must be melted and coalesced while evacuating the air in the toner layer in order to form a color, and image disorder is likely to occur.
[0032]
In the fixing device according to the present invention, most of the air in the expanded toner layer and the sheet heated in the pressure contact region with the pressure applying member flows out in the direction of lower pressure, that is, flows toward the nip entrance side, and the pressure roll and The amount of air flowing into the low-pressure section sandwiched between the pressure applying members is reduced. For this reason, even if it is a coated paper, it becomes possible to prevent the image from being blurred, shifted, or disturbed.
[0033]
Further, in order to adjust the temperature of the toner, the width of the pressure applying member is set at a temperature at which the viscosity of the toner changes from a glassy state to a rubbery flow state from the position of the nip entrance where the endless belt is in contact with the heat fixing roll. It is desirable that the temperature is set to a position where heating is performed. When the temperature of the toner rises until a rubber-like flow occurs, an adhesive force is generated between the toner particles, and the toner particles do not easily move. Therefore, even if there is a low-pressure portion sandwiched between the contact area with the pressure applying member and the contact area with the pressure roll, when the toner passes through the low-pressure section, the toner already has a rubber-like flow. Therefore, the occurrence of blurring, displacement, and disturbance of the image is eliminated.
[0034]
In order to obtain a pressure distribution in which the contact pressure with the pressure applying member increases toward the downstream side, the structure of the pressure applying member is required as in the invention described in the above-described
With the above configuration, it is possible to prevent the occurrence of image disorder even on a recording sheet having low air permeability.
[0035]

By the way, when passing a sheet having low air permeability such as coated paper, it is difficult to suppress the air in the toner layer by the pressure in the belt nip. If the air permeability of the sheet is low, the air cannot be held inside the sheet even if the pressure is increased, and although the volume of the air slightly decreases, the pressure increases by that much, and the air with a lower pressure than the surroundings Stagnation will occur. In this state, image disturbance occurs. In order to prevent this, in the present embodiment, the pressure distribution of the pressure applying member is lowered on the nip inlet side, increases toward the rear end, and reaches a maximum pressure downstream of the pressure applying member. You have set. That is, by gradually increasing the pressure distribution of the pressure applying member to the maximum pressure on the downstream side, the air flows smoothly to the nip inlet side where the pressure is low, and the occurrence of air stagnation is prevented. Also, even if a low pressure portion is formed at the boundary with the

The configurations of the first to fourth embodiments may be independent, or may be combined. When combined, it is possible to more reliably prevent image quality degradation as a synergistic effect.
[0062]
Next, in order to confirm the effect of the fixing device, a description will be given of the result of an experiment in which the pressure distribution of the belt nip and the presence or absence of image disorder were measured by changing the type of sheet.
Table 1 collectively shows the contact width, load, maximum pressure, and maximum pressure position of the pressure applying member from the first embodiment to the fourth embodiment. Further, as a fifth embodiment, an experiment was similarly performed in a case where the protruding portion used in the third embodiment was combined with the regulating plate used in the fourth embodiment. At this time, the pressing load was 40 kg, the nip width was 15 mm, and the maximum pressure was 1.5 kg / cm at 13 mm from the nip entrance side. 2 And For comparison, an experiment was similarly performed on the conventional pressure applying member shown in FIG. At this time, the elastic layer was set to have a rubber hardness of 23 °, a thickness of 5 mm, and a radius of curvature of the surface of the pressure applying member of 24 mm.
[0063]
[Table 1]
[0064]
FIG. 5 shows the results of examining the belt nip pressure distribution for the six cases shown in Table 1.
As shown in this figure, in the conventional type, the pressure distribution of the belt nip gradually decreases on the side of the pressure roll, and the area between the maximum pressure action area of the pressure applying member and the maximum pressure action area of the pressure roll is reduced. It turns out that it is big. For this reason, it can be seen that the air existing in the toner layer is blocked by both the maximum pressures and stays in this low pressure region.
[0065]
On the other hand, in the configurations shown in the first to fifth embodiments, the pressure acting on the pressure contact surface of the pressure applying member increases from the nip inlet to the downstream side, and the vicinity of the rear end of the pressure applying member At the maximum pressure. For this reason, most of the thermally expanded air in the toner layer of the belt nip and in the coated paper smoothly flows to the nip entrance side where the pressure is low, and the air flows into the low pressure part at the boundary between the pressure applying member and the pressure roll. Can be prevented. Further, as in the third to fifth embodiments, as the maximum pressure near the rear end of the pressure applying member is larger, the thermally expanded air overcomes the maximum pressure, and the pressure applying member and the pressure roll Flow into the low-pressure portion of In particular, in the fifth embodiment, by combining the configurations of the two embodiments, the maximum pressure near the rear end of the pressure applying member increases due to the synergistic effect. For this reason, it is possible to more reliably prevent air from flowing into the low-pressure portion at the boundary between the pressure applying member and the pressure roll.
[0066]
Next, Table 2 shows the results of measurements of the occurrence of image disturbances for different types of sheets in the above six cases. Further, as a comparative example, instead of the configuration in which the pressure gradually increases rearward from the nip entrance as in the above-described embodiment, as shown in FIG. An experiment was also performed in the same manner when irregularities were created in the pressure distribution.
[0067]
[Table 2]
[0068]
From the results in Table 2, it was found that in the case of the third embodiment, the fourth embodiment, and the fifth embodiment in which these are combined, it is possible to prevent the image shift in the coated paper of any air permeability. . Also, in the first embodiment and the second embodiment, it has been found that an image shift can be prevented in coated paper having relatively high air permeability as compared with the conventional type. Looking at these results in correlation with the pressure distribution, it can be seen that image disturbance is less likely to occur as the maximum pressure is further downstream from the nip inlet and the value is greater.
[0069]
When the maximum pressure is farther downstream than the nip entrance, most of the thermally expanded air in the toner layer and the coated paper flows smoothly to the nip entrance side where the pressure is low, so that the boundary between the pressure applying member and the pressure roll. Stagnation of the air can be prevented from occurring in the low-pressure portion. This is considered to be because the larger the maximum pressure of the pressure applying member is, the less the thermally expanded air overcomes the maximum pressure and flows into the low pressure portion between the pressure applying member and the pressure roll.
[0070]
Further, as a comparative example, it was found that when two projections were provided on the pressure applying member, air stagnation occurred in portions where the pressure distribution was small in all coated papers, and image disturbance occurred.
[0071]
【The invention's effect】
As described above, in the fixing device according to the present invention, the pressure acting on the pressure contact surface of the pressure applying member increases toward the rear from the nip entrance, and has a pressure distribution such that the rear end has the maximum pressure. Since it is set, air does not flow into the boundary between the pressure applying member and the pressure roll in the nip, and it is possible to prevent image disturbance even on coated paper where image disturbance is most likely to occur. For this reason, the application range of the recording sheet of the fixing device is expanded, and the industrial value is further expanded.
