従来より、用便後の局部温水洗浄を可能とした温水洗浄装置が、便座に一体化されるなどして便器に配設されてきている。
この温水洗浄装置は、たとえば図2a及びbの要部断面図及び平面図に示したように、肛門洗浄用とビデ洗浄用のノズル(1a,1b)をそれぞれ1本ずつ備え、操作スイッチを介して肛門洗浄又はビデ洗浄が入力された時に、その入力内容に対応していずれか一方のノズル(1a,1b)に洗浄用温水が供給され、この時の水圧によりノズル(1a,1b)が伸張し、噴射孔(2)を有する先端が所定位置に配置され、その噴射孔(2)から局部に向けて洗浄水が噴出するようになっている。

温水洗浄装置では、局部洗浄後、洗浄停止が操作スイッチを介して入力されると、図3に示した給水弁(8)が閉止され、温水タンク(7)への給水が停止されるが、この時、温水タンク(7)内には残圧が残るため、これがノズル(1a,1b)側から抜けるようにしばらく洗浄水の流路をノズル(1a,1b)側に開放している。その動作制御は、図1に示したステップにしたがって行われる。
