TECHNICAL FIELD OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to a brush charging device used for an image forming apparatus such as an electrophotographic apparatus or an electrostatic recording apparatus, and which uniformly charges the surface of a photosensitive member as an electrostatic latent image carrier with a conductive charging brush. It is.
[0002]
[Prior art]
In the image forming apparatus, equipment using dry toner occupies the mainstream, and has been practically used as many copiers, laser printers, plain paper facsimile and the like, and has achieved remarkable development. This image forming apparatus is an apparatus to which an electrophotographic process technology is applied, and visualizes an electrostatic latent image formed on a photoconductor as an electrostatic latent image carrier with toner particles.
[0003]
In such an image forming apparatus, as a means for uniformly charging the surface of the photoconductor, a corona charging device including a wire electrode and a shield electrode has been generally used. However, due to problems such as application of a high voltage, low charging efficiency, generation of ozone, and occurrence of charging unevenness due to wire contamination, the use of a conductive brush charging device that is advantageous for cost reduction has recently been increasing.
[0004]
Hereinafter, the configuration and operation of an electrophotographic apparatus using a brush charging device will be described with reference to the drawings.
[0005]
Here, FIG. 7 is a schematic view showing an image forming apparatus having a conventional brush charging device.
[0006]
The illustrated image forming apparatus is an image forming apparatus that visualizes an electrostatic latent image formed on a photoconductor by an electrophotographic process technique using toner particles, and includes a photoconductor 1 that is an electrostatic latent image carrier. ing. The photoconductor 1 rotates in the circumferential direction and conveys a sheet described later.

[0020]
[Problems to be solved by the invention]
Therefore, the conventional brush charging device requires a means for removing the toner that has passed through the cleaning blade and adhered to the charging brush. As a removing means, it is conceivable to contact some member over the entire length of the charging brush to scrape off the toner.
[0021]
Here, when the removing means to be brought into contact with the charging brush is made of a rigid body such as metal or resin, it is necessary to bring the removing means into strong contact with the charging brush in order to obtain a sufficient removing effect. Then, the charging brush is deformed after being left for a long period of time, and the contact pressure with the photoreceptor changes, so that charging unevenness occurs. The fibers are deteriorated or thermally deformed, which also causes uneven charging.
[0022]
Further, when the removing means is made of an elastic rubber material, the hardness of the general rubber material is not much different from the rigid body with respect to the charging brush, and has the same problem as the rigid body.
[0023]
Further, when the removing means is made of a soft foam, the degree of deformation of the charging brush differs between the concave portion and the convex portion after being left for a long period of time because the contact surface with the charging brush has irregularities, which is also a factor of uneven charging. It becomes. In addition, each time the printing operation is repeated, the toner enters the pores of the foam and becomes clogged to increase the hardness. Therefore, a problem similar to that of a rigid body or a rubber material occurs.
[0024]
Therefore, an object of the present invention is to provide a brush charging device that can efficiently remove toner attached to a charging brush while preventing deformation of the charging brush.
[0025]
[Means for Solving the Problems]
In order to solve this problem, the brush charging device of the present invention includes: Guidance A charging brush comprising an electrically conductive shaft and a brush radially provided on the shaft and charging the electrostatic latent image carrier to a predetermined potential; and a charging brush electrically connected to the charging brush, and applying a voltage to the charging brush. A charging bias supply power source to be applied, and the base material is made of an elastic foam, and a contact portion with the charging brush is a solid surface layer portion. And makes contact over the entire width of the charging brush. And a brush cleaning member.
[0026]
Accordingly, it is possible to efficiently remove the toner attached to the charging brush while preventing the deformation of the charging brush.
[0027]
The invention described in claim 1 of the present invention Guidance A charging brush comprising an electrically conductive shaft and a brush radially provided on the shaft and charging the electrostatic latent image carrier to a predetermined potential; and a charging brush electrically connected to the charging brush, and applying a voltage to the charging brush. A charging bias supply power source to be applied, and the base material is made of an elastic foam, and a contact portion with the charging brush is a solid surface layer portion. And makes contact over the entire width of the charging brush. A brush charging device comprising a brush cleaning member, which can prevent uneven charging due to deformation of the charging brush and an increase in hardness of the foam due to clogging of the toner, and adhered to the charging brush. This has the effect that toner can be efficiently removed.
[0028]
According to a second aspect of the present invention, in the first aspect of the present invention, the brush cleaning member is a brush charging device that is a plate-shaped member, which causes uneven charging and toner clogging due to deformation of the charging brush. Thus, it is possible to prevent an increase in the hardness of the foam due to the toner, and it is possible to efficiently remove the toner attached to the charging brush.
[0029]
According to a third aspect of the present invention, in the first aspect of the present invention, the brush cleaning member is a brush charging device having a rotatable roller shape. This has the effect of preventing an increase in the hardness of the foam due to clogging, and enabling the toner attached to the charging brush to be efficiently removed.
[0030]
According to a fourth aspect of the present invention, in the third aspect of the present invention, the brush cleaning member is configured such that the brush cleaning member rotates in the same direction at a contact portion with the charging brush and at a peripheral speed different from that of the charging brush. This is a device and has an effect that it is possible to efficiently remove the toner attached to the charging brush.
[0031]
According to a fifth aspect of the present invention, in the third aspect of the present invention, the brush cleaning member is a brush charging device that rotates in mutually different directions at a contact portion with the charging brush, and is attached to the charging brush. This has the effect that the removed toner can be efficiently removed.
[0032]
According to a sixth aspect of the present invention, in the first aspect, the brush cleaning member is a brush charging device to which a predetermined level of voltage is applied, wherein the brush cleaning member is made of a conductor or a semiconductor. By generating an electric field that moves the toner from the charging brush to the brush cleaning member, the toner attached to the charging brush can be efficiently removed.
[0033]
Hereinafter, embodiments of the present invention will be described with reference to FIG.

The photosensitive member 1 has a negative charge type and is applied in a shape. The photoreceptor 1 rotates in the circumferential direction (in this embodiment, clockwise arrow D direction) to convey a sheet described later.
[0036]
Here, the alumite layer is formed for protection against electrical breakdown of the photosensitive receiving layer. The photosensitive receiving layer has a laminated structure of a charge generating layer in which a charge generating substance is dispersed and contained in a binder resin and a charge transporting layer in which a charge transporting substance is contained. In the present embodiment, the charge transport layer is laminated on the charge generation layer, and the thickness of these photosensitive receiving layers is 25 μm.
