Description

り返し走査するように動作する走査装置内に配置される
走査配列に関し、より具体的にはモータ上に取り付けら
れたホールダ構造によって支持されている走査要素を、
1対の走査端位置の間を単一の走査方向に角度的に振動
ができるようにする配列の新しい走査モータに関する。
走査装置の本発明による走査配列は、固定取り付けされ
たスキャナの形態、または走査装置のユーザが容易に保
持して取り扱うことができる手持ち式形態の何れかで実
現される小型、軽量の走査装置内に配置された単一の印
刷回路基板上に取り付けることが好ましい。
れた情報を走査して読み取るためにレーザ走査装置を使
用することはこの特定技術の分野では公知であり、商業
的に広く受け入れられている。因みに、種々の型のレー
ザ走査装置には、バーコード読み取り装置のような光読
み取りシステムを収納する走査ヘッドが組み込まれてお
り、バーコード読み取り装置から放射されたレーザビー
ムによって走査される標的上の情報即ちバーコード記号
をこの走査ヘッドが読み取るようになっている。概述す
れば、これらのレーザ走査装置、特にバーコード読み取
り装置の型のレーザ走査装置は、製造、出荷、小売商の
ような産業において広く使用されており、また例えばス
ーパーマーケットの勘定カウンタに恒久的に設置し、バ
ーコード記号が印刷または貼付されている商品をカウン
タ表面の下に配置された固定バーコード読み取り装置上
を通過させることによって、顧客が購入した商品の販売
を記録し、同時に顧客のために(多分印刷された記録と
して)読み出すようになっている。
はレーザ走査装置は、商品を配列することができる支持
台またはカウンタトップ上に伸びるスタンド上に固定し
て取り付けることができる。また或いは本発明の好まし
い実施例に見られるように、多くの用途例ではピストル
銃把を有する超小型、軽量の銃型装置の形状とし、付勢
された装置を通常は商品即ち標的上に印刷されているバ
ーコード記号からある短い距離だけ離して通過させ、バ
ーコード記号が与える情報を走査できるようにすること
ができる。
バーコード記号を読み取るための種々の光学的読み取り
装置及び光学走査システムが従来から開発されてきてい
る。バーコード記号自体は、種々の幅のスペースを限定
する互いに離間した種々の幅の一連のバーからなるしる
しの符号化されたパターンであり、バー及びスペースは
異なる光反射特性を有している。読み取り装置及び走査
システムは、図形的なしるしを電気光学的に電気信号に
変換し、これらの信号は物品または物品のある特性を記
述するようになっている英数文字に解号される。これら
の文字は、典型的にはディジタル形状で表され、販売時
点情報処理(POS)、在庫制御等の応用のためのデー
タ処理システムへの入力として使用される。この一般的

みにこの合衆国特許 5,015,833号には、全体が軽量の手
持ち銃型ハウジング内に収納された走査基板モジュール
が開示されており、このハウジングは光学成分及び走査
成分が光学的に整列された動作関係に取り付けられてい
る印刷回路基板を含んでいる。この印刷回路基板は、基
板上に取り付けられている動作スキャナ成分が乱暴な取
り扱いまたは走査装置の考え得る落下による衝突または
衝撃によって破壊されないようにハウジング内に取り付
けられている。更に、この特許に開示され図示されてい
る単一の印刷回路基板への種々の動作成分のモジュール
式取り付け、及び本出願と同時出願された合衆国特許出
願 520,464号の特に図2の実施例に関して説明されてい
る取り付けによれば、走査配列の簡単な、且つ高度に効
率的な構造及び機能を得ることができる。

自体の対応要素群によって表される。若干の記号法にお
いては、独特な“開始”及び“停止”文字を使用してバ
ーコードが何処で始まり、何処で終わるかを指示してい
る。多くの異なるバーコード記号法が存在している。こ
れらの記号法には、UPC/EAN、コード39、コー
ド128、コーダバー、及びインタリーブド2オブ5が
含まれる。
定義されている文字を適合文字と称し、一方その記号法
によって認識されず、定義されていない文字を不適合文
字と呼ぶ。従って所与の記号法に対して不適合な1また
は複数の文字に対応する要素の配列は、その記号法によ
って解号することはできない。与えられた大きさの表面
積の中に表す、または記憶することができるデータの量
を増加させるために、最近幾つかの新しいバーコード記
号法が開発された。これらの新しいバーコード標準の1
つであるコード49は、バーを水平方向に伸ばす代わり
に、文字行を垂直方向に積み重ねることによって“二次
元”の概念を導入した。即ち、バー及びスペースのパタ
ーンが1行だけではなく、幾つかの行が存在するのであ
る。コード49の構造は合衆国特許 4,794,239号に記載
されているので参照されたい。

スタ表示を生成するが、本質的に構造が比較的複雑であ
り、走査動作を発生させるためには多くの成分を必要と
する。
光ビームはレンズまたは類似の光学成分によって、表面
上のバーコード記号を含む標的に向かう光路に沿って導
かれる。走査は、光ビームを記号を横切る1本の線また
は一連の線で繰り返し走査することによって遂行され
る。走査成分には、記号を横切ってビームスポットを掃
引させ高速繰り返しモードで記号を横切り通過する走査
線を描くか、またはスキャナの視野を走査するか、また
は両方を遂行するの何れかを行うようになっている駆動
モータまたは走査モータを組み込むことができる。

つ記号を僅かに過ぎて伸びる視野を有する光路内に位置

アはこの電気信号を、走査された記号が表しているデー
タのディジタル表示に解号する。例えば光検出器からの
アナログ電気信号は、典型的には幅がバー及びスペース
の物理的な幅に対応するようにパルス幅変調されたディ
ジタル信号に変換される。この信号は、特定の記号法に
従って解号され、記号内に符号化されたデータの2進表
示に、そしてそのように表された英数文字にされる。

内に実現されているアルゴリズムは走査を解号しようと
試みる。もし走査の開始及び停止文字、及びそれらの間

スは終了し、読み取り成功の指示(緑灯及び可聴ビープ
の両方または何れか一方)がユーザに与えられる。一方
もし解号に失敗すれば、デコーダは次の走査を受けてそ
の走査に対して別の解号を試みる等々、このプロセスは
走査が完全に解号されるまで、またはそれ以上の走査が
使用できなくなるまで続けられる。
学機器はレーザスキャナだけではない。別の型のバーコ
ード読み取り装置は、電荷結合装置(CCD)技術に基
づく検出器を組み込んだものである。これらの読み取り
装置では、検出器の大きさは読み取るべき記号より大き
いか、または実質的に同一である。記号全体が読み取り
装置からの光によってフラッドされ、各CCDセルが順
次に読み出されてバーまたはスペースの存在が決定され
る。これらの読み取り装置は軽量であり、使用が容易で
あるが、記号を正しく読み取るためには読み取り装置を
記号に実質的に直接接触させるか、またはその上に配置
する必要がある。読み取り装置と記号とをこのように物
理接触させることは、若干の応用に関しては好ましい動
作モードであり、またはユーザの個人的な好みの問題で
ある。
合衆国特許出願 520,464号の図2開示されている走査配
列は、印刷回路基板のような単一の指示表面上の走査成
分及び光学成分の最新のモジュール式配列より優れてい
るが、本発明は、種々の成分の構造を本質的に成型され
たプラスチック材料とし、またマイラ板ばねを使用する
ことによって、印刷回路基板上に取り付けられている走
査モータ及び走査配列の構造を大幅に簡略化して更に改
善することを企図している。マイラ板ばねは、走査鏡の
ホールダの腕に取り付けられている永久磁石を含む読み
出し開始装置によって振動させられるほぼ平らな走査要
素、即ち鏡を位置決めする。この板ばねは走査配列が望
ましい効率レベルで動作できるように、高度の強度と柔
軟性とを提供するマイラ製である。更に走査配列に本質
的に全て成型されたプラスチック成分を使用し、板ばね
がマイラ製である本発明の構造は、高価ではなく、しか
も効率的に製造され、走査装置上に取り付けられる印刷
回路基板上に容易に組立てられ、高度に耐衝撃性及び耐
破壊性を有しており、走査装置の保守に際しては同様な
成分と容易に交換可能である。
理由は、その極めて低い弾性率のために、ストリップを
実現不能な程薄くしなくとも比較的低い共振周波数を得
ることができるからである。またマイラは、薄い金属ば
ねよりも組立て中の偶発的な破壊を受けにくい。マイラ
は落下または衝撃に対して金属よりも変形し易く、恒久
的な変形を生ずることがない。
ゆるマイラモータを組み込み、このマイラモータは、光
学系及び光またはレーザビーム生成装置をも支持してい
る印刷回路基板上に取り付けられている。本走査配列に
は全体的に弾力的にたわみ可能な腕を有するブラケット
の形状の支持構造が取りつけられ、また印刷回路基板の
下面に固定されているトラニオン(または筒耳)内に支
持されている回転可能な支柱が走査鏡を取り付けてい
る。更に、外側端に永久磁石が固定されている腕を有す
るブラケットの反対側の端は回転可能な支柱に固定さ
れ、またマイラで構成されている板ばねの中心が支柱に
固定され、マイラ板ばねの両端は、上記配列を取り付け
ているブラケットの弾力的な、またはたわみ可能な腕の
自由端に取り付けられている。電気的に付勢される電磁
コイルが永久磁石の吸引及び反発を交互に行ってブラケ
ットを取り付けている腕に、そしてその結果として走査
鏡を支持している直立支柱に振動運動を与える。磁石及
び電気的に付勢されるコイル(これらは読み出し開始装
置を構成している)によって賦課された振動運動は、走
査鏡に振動運動を生じさせるマイラばねによって相殺さ
れる。その結果、走査鏡は通常は両端位置の中間の中心
位置に戻る傾向を呈しながら所定の端位置間で運動する
ようになる。

に自動的に調整される。
単一の支持構造上にモジュール式に取り付けられている
上述の型の走査装置内の新しい走査モータを含む走査配
列を提供することである。本発明のより特定的な目的
は、加えられる外部衝撃及び衝突に対して本質的に耐性
を与えるように、走査装置のハウジング内に収納されて
いる印刷回路基板上にモジュール式に取り付けられてい
る読み出し開始組成を含む小型、軽量の走査装置内の走
査配列を提供することである。

図1に示す本発明の一実施例は手持ち読み取りヘッド1
0の形状であり、全体が銃の形状をしたハウジングを含
む。ハウジングは、断面がほぼ矩形であって且つ銃把軸
に沿う細長いハンドル部分12と、水平に細長い銃身即
ちボディ部分11とを有している。ハンドル部分12の
断面寸法及び総合的な大きさは、ヘッド10が都合よく
ユーザの手にフィットし、保持できるようになってい
る。ボディ部分及びハンドル部分は、合成プラスチック
材料のような軽量で、弾力的で、耐衝撃性の自立材料で
構成されている。プラスチックハウジングは、容積が5
0立方インチ程度以下、また若干の応用では25立方イ
ンチ、またはそれ以下である内部空間を限定する薄い中
空の殻を形成するために射出成型することが望ましい
が、真空成型または吹込み成型することもできる。これ
らの特定値はヘッド10を限定するものではなく、その
総合最大寸法及び容積の近似値を示したに過ぎない。殻
は2つのハウジング部分12a、12bからなり、これ
らは垂直の継ぎ目線12cに沿って組合わされている。

を介して間接的に付勢される。ヘッド成分の1つは例え
ば半導体レーザダイオードのような付勢可能なレーザ光
源であってよく(図3参照)、この光源は引き金13に
よって付勢された時に動作して少なくとも僅かでも人の
目に見える入射レーザビームを生成し、伝播させる。放
出されたレーザダイオードビームは高度に発散性であ
り、ビーム伝播の縦方向に平行な、及び垂直な異なる面
内において異なって発散し、非半径方向に対称、即ちア
ナモルフィックであり、そして長円形に似たビーム断面
を有している。ダイオードは、連続波型であっても、ま
たはパルス型であってもよい。ダイオードは低電圧(例
えば直流12Vまたはそれ以下)を必要とするが、これ
はヘッド内に設けることができる電力調整器及び電池
(直流)電源によって、またはヘッドに取り外し可能な
ように取り付けられる再充電可能な電池パックによっ
て、または外部電源(例えば直流源)からヘッドに接続
されているケーブル15内の電力導体によって供給す
る。レーザ光または異なる波長を放出するダイオードも
本発明の範囲内である。

光学組立体30は装置内の薄い柔軟な印刷回路基板20
上に取り付けられ、放出された光またはレーザビームを
光学的に変更して装置の外部に位置する参照面に向かう
指定された光路に沿って導くために、基板に対して調整
可能なように位置決めされる。読み取るべき記号は参照
面の付近に、参照面に、または一方の側に向けてまたは
その反対側に配列することができる。要するに本質的に
は、応用に適合するように変更されたレーザビームの被
写界深度内の、且つレーザ装置に対して測定される作業
距離内の何処にでも配列できるのである。これにより光
またはレーザビームは、1つの方向に鏡面反射成分とし
て、また多くの方向に散乱成分として記号から反射され
る。記号から遠去かる第2の光路に沿って走行し、走査
装置に向かって戻る散乱したレーザ光の部分を戻り光部
分と呼び、記号によって表されている情報に関する情報
を入手するために使用される。
合衆国特許 5,015,833号に開示されているものと類似ま
たは同一であってよい。従って、光学組立体に関して比
較的一般的な説明以外の情報及び詳細な説明は全て省略
することにするが、この技術においては公知のように、
光学組立体は、放出されたレーザまたは光ビームを参照
面に集束させるためのアパーチャと共働する多分平凸レ
ンズの形態の集束用レンズから構成することができる。
以下に説明する本発明による走査配列36に向けて投射
すべき光を生成するレーザダイオードのような光生成源
を含む光学組立体内に、レンズ及び他の成分を調整する
ための適当なばねを組み込むことができる。

この支持部材40は細長いブラケット42の形状の中央
部分と、この中央部分の両端から突き出てほぼL字形に
なるように鋭角αに曲げられた腕44、46とを有して
いる。細長いほぼ矩形のブラケット42は、ブラケット
42の両端に形成されている孔47を通って伸び図8に
示すトラニオン60のねじ孔58内に係合する適当な留
め具(図示してない)を介して印刷回路基板20に取り
付けられる。またブラケット42は、図10に示す支柱
50を旋回自在に支持するための孔48をあけた中央部
分を含み、この支柱50の下端は印刷回路基板20を通
り、基板20の下面を横切って伸びて図8及び9に示す
トラニオン60内に受けられている。支柱50はブラケ
ット部材52を含む。この部材52には、平らな走査鏡
のような適当な走査要素即ち鏡54が留め具要素によっ
て留められていて支柱50を同軸的に通って伸びる軸y
を中心として振動する。支柱50には突起した腕部材7
0が固定されており、腕部材70の外側端74は磁石7
2を有している。磁石72は電気的に付勢される電磁コ
イル構造76内のアパーチャに出入するように可動であ
って、該コイルに電気的に交互に吸引または反発され、
その結果として腕部材70及び支柱50を振動させて走
査要素、即ち鏡54に往復動振動運動を賦課するように
なっている。

られた腕部材44、46の外端には半円筒部分の形状
で、ほぞ64を有する締め付け要素61、62が設けて

れる。支柱50内に形成されている切欠き(またはノッ
チ)部分50aを通って伸び、磁石を支持している腕と
係合しているのは、図14に示すようなマイラのシート
から作られた平らな板ばね80である。マイラ板ばね8
0の中央部分に設けられている孔82は、図10aに示
すように、磁石を取り付けている腕から伸びている留め
具またはほぞと係合し、走査要素即ち鏡54を支持して
いる回転可能な支柱50にばねを取り付けるようになっ
ており、一方マイラばねの両端84、86にそれぞれ設
けられている孔88、90はブラケット42の腕44、
46の外端の半円筒形締め付け要素62と68及び61
と66の間に伸びるほぞ64と係合して、それらの間に
固定的に係合するようになっている。これによりばね8
0は、例えば互いに直角即ち90°をなす2つの腕セグ
メントに曲げられ、両セグメントは支柱50に取り付け
られた箇所から柔軟な腕部材44、46に取り付けられ
る箇所まで伸びることになる。これは、磁石に賦課され
る付勢効果によって走査要素即ち鏡54に加えられる振
動運動に対抗する弾力的なバイアス復元作用を走査要素
に与え、それにより走査要素をその両端位置間で往復動
させる。即ち、走査配列の動作中、付勢パルスがコイル
に印加される度に磁石はコイルの開口、またはアパーチ
ャ内に引き込まれ、それによって全ての振動可能な成分
がそれと共に引っ張られ、同時に板ばねが曲げられる。
図4に示すように板ばねの各腕はほぼ平面状であり、磁
石の振動に応答して変位した時には板ばねの各腕は曲げ
られてその中にエネルギを蓄える。次いで板ばねは曲げ
られた時に蓄えたエネルギを解放するので、磁石及び走
査要素は変位してその中央の通常の休止位置まで戻さ
れ、組立体は減衰的に振動する。このように、この特定
構造は走査要素の2つの端位置の間での制御された振動
を保証し、それによって標的物体上の情報を読み取るた
めの均一な走査動作を提供する。
以外の走査配列36の残余の成分は走査鏡を除いて、例
えばレクサン( lexan)等のような成型されたプラスチ
ック材料製とすることができ、また走査配列全体をモジ
ュール式に印刷回路基板20上に取り付けて構造を簡易
化することによって、走査装置の考え得る落下または乱
暴な取り扱いによる外部的に発生する衝撃及び衝突から
配列が効果的に保護され、同時にその構造が本質的に安
価になり、且つ容易にそして迅速に保守することが可能
になる。
明らかに、また有利に幾つかの特色を提供すること、及
びこれらの特色は当該技術において何らの開示も、また
は企図もされていないものであることは当業者には容易
に明白であろう。以上に本発明の好ましい実施例と考え
られるものを図示し、説明したが、勿論本発明の思想か
ら逸脱することなく形状または細部の種々の変更及び変
化が容易に考案できること、従って、本発明は図示し、
説明した形状及び細部に限定されるものではないことを
理解されたい。

Claims (16)
- 【請求項1】 走査要素(54)を振動させ、しるしを横切
りこれから反射する光ビームを走査するか、または前記
しるしから反射された前記光の視野を走査することによ
って異なる光反射率部分を有する前記しるしを電気光学
的に読み取るための装置であって、 印刷回路基板(20)によって支持され、中央部分(42)と、
該中央部分(42)の両端部領域から離れて延びる一対のば
ね支持腕(44,46)とを含むようになっている支持構造(4
0)と、 振動動作を行うように前記中央部分(42)上に取りつけら
れており、前記走査要素(54)を保持するように作動する

通って延びており、該印刷回路基板20の下側に配置され
た支持部材(60)内でジャーナル回転されることを特徴と

前記反射光を検出するための光検出器(17)と、からな
り、前記光源(33)と前記光検出器(17)は前記支持構造(4
