現在、多くの場合はパソコン上での製図が主流になっている。しかしながら、手描きによる製図方法も多く使用されている。例えば学生が授業中に構図を検討する場合などに用いられる。定規による作図で最もよく用いられるのは固定角度を有する角の描くことである。従来、固定角度を有する角を描く場合は、同時にスケール及び半円形の分度器を使用し、その製図過程は以下の通りである。
1.図面上に所定の長さの線分である第一辺を描く。
2.定規を取り除き、半円形の分度器を使用する。
3.半円形の分度器の直線状の辺を第一辺に合わせる。
4.半円形の分度器の円心を第一辺の何れかの一端に合わせる。
5.必要な角度と対応する半円形の分度器の円弧状の辺に点をつける。
6.スケールを用いて第一辺の前記一端と前記点とを繋ぐ。
7.前記一端と前記点を結ぶ線を描く。
