2. Description of the Related Art Quartz glass or a quartz glass preform which is a preform of an optical communication fiber is manufactured by a VAD method, an OVD method, or the like.
It is manufactured by a general method such as the MCVD method. This base material is usually stretched to a predetermined diameter and used as an optical communication fiber. If such a quartz glass base material has scratches on its surface, problems such as fiber breakage will occur in the drawing process, so it is necessary to take great care not to damage the surface of the base material. is there. Therefore, conventionally, when shipping, the quartz glass base material is put in a bag such as a plastic bag as it is, and the product wound with a packing cushioning material such as air packing is stored in a box for shipping.

In recent years, with the development of the optical communication business, the shipment amount of the quartz glass base material has increased, and the shipment of a plurality of quartz glass base materials at the same time has increased. In this case, if a plurality of glass base materials are packed in one box, the glass base materials may come into contact with each other due to vibration during transportation, which may cause scratches or cracks. Therefore, packing materials such as air packing are wrapped around the glass base material one by one and packed in a box, or one glass base material is packed in one box,
Scratches and cracks were prevented. However, such a packing method requires a large amount of packing cushioning material and boxes,
It is economically disadvantageous, and has the drawback that it takes a lot of trouble and time for packing. Furthermore, when packing glass base materials having different lengths, if they are put in the same box, the glass base material moves in the longitudinal direction during transportation, and the end thereof comes into contact with the box to prevent scratches, cracks, etc. There was an inconvenience that caused it.

As described above, according to the present invention, the glass base material is provided in the box by providing the partition plate in the box in accordance with the thickness of the quartz glass base material and storing the quartz glass base material one by one between the partition plates. Since it does not roll in the body, the quartz glass base materials do not come into contact with each other, and the occurrence of scratches and cracks during transportation can be prevented. Further, the packing may be wrapped in a minimal packing cushioning material, for example, a plastic bag so that the quartz glass base material does not directly touch the partition plate. Furthermore, when both ends in the longitudinal direction of the quartz glass base material are processed into a conical shape,
By inserting a packing cushioning material such as a spacer at both ends, damage to both ends can be prevented.

According to the present invention, when packing quartz glass base materials having different lengths into one box, a box is selected according to the longest quartz glass base material, and spacers are provided at both ends of the short quartz glass base material. It can also be stored and packed. According to this method, since the quartz glass base material does not move in the longitudinal direction during transportation, the end of the quartz glass base material is not damaged. The spacer may have a square shape, but if a spacer having a shape corresponding to the end shape of the quartz glass base material is used, it is possible to reliably prevent the quartz glass base material from violently vibrating in the box. Also, by preparing a plurality of spacers in which these spacers are further shortened and inserting the required number of spacers at both ends according to the length of the quartz glass base material,
It can be applied to quartz glass base materials of various lengths. The material of the spacer is preferably a material that absorbs shocks at the time of vibration, and examples thereof include a styrene foam material and a rubber-like elastic material. Among them, a styrene foam material is preferably employed.

The box used in the present invention may have any shape as long as it can accommodate a plurality of quartz glass base materials, and the material is not particularly limited. It must be made of a material that can withstand the load, because it becomes very heavy to fit in the body. Specific examples include cardboard, plastic, cardboard plastic, and wooden boxes.

The partition plate used in the present invention is for preventing the quartz glass base materials from contacting each other to prevent the occurrence of scratches and cracks, and is usually a plate-like body, preferably a plate-like body. If the holding member is integrally attached to the bottom portion, the partition plate can be arranged without falling when it moves. The partition plate may be made of any material as long as it can prevent contact between the quartz glass base materials. For example, the same material as that of the box body may be used. The partition plates are provided according to the number of quartz glass base materials to be packed.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS The present invention will be described below in detail with reference to the accompanying drawings. FIG. 1 is a perspective view showing an example of a state in which a quartz glass preform is packed in a box body by the method of the present invention, and FIG. 2 is a schematic cross-sectional view of a box side showing another example different from FIG. FIG. 3 is a schematic sectional view of a packed state showing still another example. As shown in FIG. 1, in the method of the present invention, the partition plate 2 is arranged in parallel with the longitudinal direction of the quartz glass base material in accordance with the thickness of the quartz glass base material 1 so that the quartz glass base materials 1 do not come into contact with each other. Then, the quartz glass preform 1 is stored in the box 3 one by one via the partition plate 2.
At this time, the box 3 is provided at both ends of the quartz glass base material 1 with
The spacer 4 may be inserted. Since the vibration is absorbed by the spacer 4, the quartz glass base material can be safely packed.

Next, according to the method of the present invention, as shown in FIG.
A arrangable partitioning plate 12 may be provided in 3 to house the quartz glass base material 11. In this case, the quartz glass base material 1
Since the partition plate 12 can be freely installed in accordance with the thickness of 1, the packing operation is easy. This partition plate is usually one in which the holding member 15 is integrally attached to the bottom of the plate-like body, and is preferable because the partition plate can be arranged without falling when it moves. In addition, as shown in FIG. 2B, when an empty space is formed in the box body 13 due to the thickness of the quartz glass base material 11 ′, a spacer 14 is inserted into the space as a packing buffer, and the quartz glass base material 11 'Can not be moved.

In the method of the present invention, quartz glass base materials having different lengths can be packed together. In this case, FIG.
As shown in (a), spacers 24a are inserted into empty spaces at both ends of the longest quartz glass base material 21a so as to fit the inner dimensions of the box, and spacers 24b and 24c having different lengths are similarly inserted. Short quartz glass base material 21b, 21c
By placing the quartz glass base material in the box 23, it is possible to prevent the quartz glass base material from moving. The shape of the spacer may be generally a simple square shape.
As shown in (b), since the both ends of the quartz glass base material are formed in a conical shape, the spacer 34 having a conical concave portion adapted to the shape of both end surfaces of the glass base material.
By arranging, it is possible to reliably prevent scratches and cracks at the front end of the quartz glass base material and to reduce shaking during transportation. Further, as shown in FIG. 3 (c), if a plurality of spacers 44 of short blocks prepared in advance are overlapped and inserted by an amount corresponding to the shortage of the length, it is possible to change the length according to the length each time the package is packed. Work efficiency is very good because it is not necessary to produce a spacer.

According to the method of the present invention, the partition plate is provided in the box in accordance with the thickness of the quartz glass base material.
The quartz glass base materials do not come into contact with each other, thereby preventing the occurrence of scratches and cracks during transportation. In addition, by inserting spacers according to the length of the quartz glass base material, even if the quartz glass base materials with different lengths are packed in one box, the quartz glass base material moves in the box during transportation. In addition, it is possible to prevent the end of the quartz glass base material from being damaged. In these methods, it is not necessary to pack the quartz glass base materials one by one, so that the packing operation can be greatly simplified and the cost of packing materials can be reduced.
