As shown in FIGS. 4 and 5, the thermal head of the printer usually has a structure in which a rectangular plate-shaped substrate 1 is bonded to a radiation fin 2 having a comb-shaped cross section. The heat is transmitted to the radiating fins 2 and dissipated into the atmosphere to cool the substrate 1. Prior arts filed by the applicant of the present application before the filing of the present application include Japanese Patent Application No. 1-78148 (Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open No. 2-258270) and Japanese Patent Application No. 1-110593 (Japanese Patent Application No.

The temperature of the thermal head substrate 1 after the above-mentioned heating resistor starts generating heat shows a characteristic represented by a curve shown in FIG. That is, the temperature gradually rises. In an extreme case, when the temperature of the substrate 1 becomes equal to or higher than the melting point of the ink ribbon, or when the temperature becomes equal to or higher than the heat-sensitive temperature of the thermal paper, printing is performed without energizing the heat-generating resistor. Has the disadvantage of being lost.

The present invention has solved the above-mentioned disadvantage by replacing the heat radiation fin 2 shown in FIG. 4 with the heat pipe 4 and the heat radiation fin 5 shown in FIG.

A working liquid 6 is sealed in the inside of the box-shaped heat pipe 4 as shown in the sectional view of FIG. 2, and the temperature of the substrate 1 follows the curve b shown in FIG. And rises to reach the vaporization temperature t 0 of the working liquid 6.
Is vaporized, while the heated gas in the tubular body 5a is
The temperature t 0 is kept constant as shown in FIG. As the working liquid 6, an appropriate material is selected according to the melting point of the ink ribbon.

As long as the working liquid 6 exists in the heat pipe 4, the heat generated from the substrate 1 is absorbed as heat of vaporization, which is the same as having an infinite heat capacity.

1 (A), (B) and FIG. 6 (A), the heat pipe for radiating heat pipes according to the present invention will be described. As shown in A), the entire heat pipe is integrally formed of a material for a thermal head so as to have a rectangular box-shaped cross section. A thermally conductive tubular body 5a is fixed symmetrically in the longitudinal direction of the heat pipe 4 in which the working liquid 6 is sealed,
A plurality of plate-shaped heat radiation fins 5b are provided in parallel near the end of the tubular body 5a opposite to the fixed end. The tubular body 5a and the radiation fins 5b constitute a radiation fin assembly. Further, the tubular body 5a and the radiation fins 5b can be attached in a longitudinal direction of the heat pipe or an arbitrary combination thereof in a direction perpendicular thereto.

On the other hand, as another embodiment, if the entire thermal head is formed as a metal substrate in the form of a heat pipe formed of a metal material for a thermal head, and the bottom surface of the heat pipe becomes the working surface of the thermal head, the cooling effect is further enhanced. Become noticeable.

The actual production method of the heat pipe for this is
As shown in FIG. 6 (A), the entire heat pipe may be integrally formed of a material for a thermal head so as to have a rectangular cross section. For example, it is preferable that the same material be a metal material.

Since the thermal head having the above-described structure qualitatively exhibits the temperature characteristic represented by the curve b in FIG. 3, the substrate temperature is maintained at a constant vaporization temperature t 0, and the temperature control is performed by selecting the working liquid. Is extremely easy, the heat of the substrate is quickly removed, the temperature rise is suppressed, and the speed of the printer can be increased.
