2. Description of the Related Art An electrical connector for a circuit board (printed board) has a tine type in which pin-shaped terminals (tines) are inserted into through holes of the circuit board and flow-soldered, and an electrical connector formed on the surface of the circuit board. There are known two types of SMT connectors in which a solder cream is adhered to a pad which has been placed, a plate-like terminal is arranged on the pad, and the solder cream is heated and melted to perform reflow soldering. The former has high soldering strength between the connector and the circuit board, but is difficult to apply when the contacts have a high density of contacts. On the other hand, the latter does not require an opening such as a through hole in a circuit board, and is therefore suitable for high density. 2. Description of the Related Art SMT connectors are becoming more and more popular due to the recent trend toward smaller, lighter, and smaller electronic devices. However, when a large tension is applied to the soldered connector, the soldered connection may be broken. In view of this, a connector using a holder has been proposed and used in order to protect the soldered connection portion of the contact from tension applied during and after reflow soldering of the contact of the SMT connector.

[0003] Various holders have been proposed for this purpose. For example, as disclosed in Japanese Patent Publication No. 2-28236, a pair of substantially rod-shaped metal holders which are press-fitted and held in an insulating housing are generally used. Such a holder is usually inserted into an opening formed in the circuit board and fixed by soldering. However, it may not be desirable to form the openings in the circuit board. In that case, for example,
As disclosed in Japanese Patent No. 74473, a holding bracket or the like which is embedded in both ends of an insulating housing and has a soldering surface flush with a mounting circuit board is generally used.

However, in such an embedded type mounting bracket, mismatch (misalignment) easily occurs between the SMT terminal of the contact and the soldering surface of the holding bracket. That is,
If the soldering surface of the holding fitting protrudes too far outward from the connector housing from the soldering face of the SMT contact, only the holding fitting is soldered, and the essential soldering of the SMT contact becomes impossible or incomplete. Cannot be demonstrated. Conversely, if the SMT contact protrudes outward, the holding fitting is not soldered and the purpose of reinforcing the connector cannot be achieved.

As described above, it is necessary to make the SMT soldering portion of each contact and the solder connecting portion of the holder substantially coplanar. However, it is practical to obtain an SMT connector having a holder which is optimally aligned with the conventional fixed type holder which is integrally embedded at the time of a molding operation or which is press-fitted and held in a connector housing in a later step, especially when the number of contacts increases. Was difficult.

According to the SMT type connector of the present invention, there is provided an insulating housing having a plurality of SMT contacts arranged in at least one row. Both feet of the insulating housing are provided with fixing or holding means having fixing parts which are connected by soldering to the surface of the mounting circuit board.
Each fixture has a long hole, and movably engages with protrusions at both ends of the insulating housing in a vertical direction, or is bent into a substantially U-shape inserted from above into an opening near the end of the insulating housing. Holding legs. With such an arrangement, the fixture is movable within a limited range perpendicular to the insulating housing. As a result, when the SMT type connector is mounted on the circuit board, the fixing portion of the fixing tool comes into contact with the surface of the circuit board first, but when further pressed, the fixing tool slides, and the SMT contact uniformly contacts the surface of the circuit board. I do. In this state, reflow soldering is performed. This soldered SMT
When tension is applied to the mold connector, the fixture engages and holds the insulating housing, so that the SMT contact can be used with the SM to prevent excessive tension or distortion.
Reinforce the T-type connector.

FIG. 3 shows an example of the fixture 40. As shown in the figure, the fixing device 40 is a substantially L-shaped metal fitting, and has a substantially square solder connecting portion 41 and a holding portion 43 having a slot (longitudinal groove) 42 at the center. The holding portion 43 is substantially U-shaped, and has barbs (barbs) 44 on the outside of both legs. The fixture 40 is preferably a slot 25 in the insulating housing 20.
Is pushed downward from above. As shown in FIG.
It should be noted that gaps are provided between the barbs 44 and the shoulders 27 and between the slots 42 and the projections 28, respectively, so that the fixture 40 can be moved (i.e., freely) to some extent in the vertical direction. Thereby, as described above, the SMT contact 3
The soldering portion 34 of the No. 0 and the solder connecting portion 41 of the fixture 40 can be easily aligned.

The barb 44 of the fixture 40 engages the shoulder 27 of the slot 25 to prevent removal once the retainer 43 is pressed into the slot 25. In addition, the SMT connector 10
When tension is applied in a direction in which the insulating housing 20 is pulled away from the circuit board, the protrusion 28 of the insulating housing 20 is engaged with the upper portion of the central slot 42 of the holding portion 43. As a result, the insulating housing 20 is further separated from the circuit board, and S
This effectively prevents the solder connection of the soldered portion 34 of the MT contact 30 from being damaged. That is, the mounting strength of the SMT connector 10 to the circuit board is reinforced.

As will be understood from the above description, the surface mount type connector of the present invention has a structure in which the fixing tool can be moved up and down within a predetermined range, and between the soldered portion of the SMT contact and the fixed portion. A strain absorbing part is formed. Therefore, when soldering by surface mounting, the SMT soldering portion of the contact is lifted from the solder connecting portion of the fixture, and there is no risk of incomplete soldering. The contact soldered by the fixture can be reliably protected against the applied excessive tension, and is very suitable for a small and high-density surface-mount connector having a pitch of 0.5 mm or the like.
