個人向け外貨両替市場において、既存の金融機関や外貨両替店、外貨両替機及び郵送による買取サービスでは、取り扱い通貨が限定的、かつ硬貨の取り扱いが少ない事が多い。
この為、海外旅行等により他国から持ち帰られた外貨について、その多くが使用される事の無いまま保持されている。
