前記複数の画素に対応してTFTが配置されたアレイ基板と、
前記アレイ基板に対向して配置され、前記複数の画素に対応して色材と遮光領域を有する対向基板と、
前記アレイ基板と前記対向基板に挟持される液晶からなる液晶層と、
前記アレイ基板の前記液晶層に対向する面に前記複数の画素に対応して設けられ、スリット形状を有する第1の電極と、
前記アレイ基板の前記液晶層に対向する面に前記複数の画素に対応して設けられ、前記第1の電極との電位差によって前記アレイ基板の基板面と平行方向の電界を形成する第2の電極と、
前記アレイ基板の前記液晶層に接する面に設けられ、前記液晶の配向方向を制御する第1の配向軸が形成された第1の配向膜と、
前記対向基板の前記液晶層に接する面に設けられ、前記第1の配向軸と平行方向であって前記液晶の配向方向を制御する第2の配向軸が形成された第2の配向膜と、
前記アレイ基板と前記対向基板の間に平面視で前記第1の電極と重なって前記第1の配向軸と平行方向に延在するように配置され、前記液晶の配向を制御する畝と、

a second alignment film provided on a surface of the counter substrate in contact with the liquid crystal layer, on which a second alignment axis is formed that is parallel to the first alignment axis and controls the alignment direction of the liquid crystal;
a ridge that is arranged between the array substrate and the counter substrate so as to overlap the first electrode in a plan view and extend in a direction parallel to the first alignment axis, and controls the alignment of the liquid crystal;
