Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to a cellulose dispersion composition and a cellulose resin composite material.
Cellulose is the basic skeletal substance of all plants, and more than 1 trillion tons of cellulose are accumulated on the earth. In addition, since cellulose is a resource that can be regenerated by planting trees, effective utilization is desired. In recent years, cellulose nanofibers (CNF, microfibrillated plant fiber) obtained by defibrating cellulose have been attracting attention as lightweight and high-strength materials, and materials using CNF have been actively developed.
For example, the development of a CNF reinforcing material having improved mechanical strength by containing CNF as a filler in a matrix such as a resin in a dispersed state has been reported. In addition to the resin, by containing CNF in a liquid such as paint or ink in a dispersed state, it is expected that the mechanical properties of the formed coating film or the like will be improved. However, since CNF has abundant hydroxyl groups, it is hydrophilic and has high polarity. Therefore, CNF has an aspect that it is difficult to uniformly disperse it in a hydrophobic and low-polarity organic solvent or monomer. Therefore, it has been studied to improve the compatibility with a low-polarity organic solvent or the like by surface modification of CNF by chemical treatment, introduction of a functional group, or the like.
For example, a fiber-reinforced composite material in which a reinforcing material obtained by chemically modifying a hydroxyl group of bacterial cellulose with a functional group such as an acetyl group or a methacryloyl group is impregnated with a matrix material has been proposed (Patent Document 1).
However, the fiber-reinforced composite material proposed in Patent Document 1 is not so suitable for industrialization in that it utilizes bacterial cellulose and that it is impregnated with a matrix material to produce the composite material.
As described above, CNF is highly hydrophilic because it has abundant hydroxyl groups, and it is difficult to disperse it in a highly hydrophobic liquid medium such as an organic solvent or a monomer. In order to disperse the CNF obtained by defibrating the pulp in water in a low-polarity organic solvent, it is necessary to dry the CNF so that water does not get mixed in. However, nano-sized CNFs are remarkably easily aggregated when dried, which makes it difficult to finely disperse them in an organic solvent. Therefore, it is desired to develop a dispersion composition in which hydrophilic cellulose is more effectively dispersed in a hydrophobic liquid medium, and a method for producing such a dispersion composition at low cost.
The present invention has been made in view of the problems of the prior art, and the subject thereof is a cellulose dispersion liquid in which hydrophilic cellulose is effectively dispersed in a hydrophobic liquid medium. The purpose is to provide the composition.
Further, according to the present invention, the following cellulose resin composite materials are provided.
[5] A cellulose resin composite material having a cellulose (b) content of 0.5 to 10% by mass, which is obtained by using the cellulose dispersion composition according to any one of [1] to [3]. ..
According to the present invention, it is possible to provide a cellulose dispersion liquid composition in which hydrophilic cellulose is effectively dispersed in a hydrophobic liquid medium. Further, according to the present invention, it is possible to provide a cellulose resin composite material using the above-mentioned cellulose dispersion liquid composition. In the cellulose dispersion liquid composition of the present invention, cellulose such as nanocellulose fiberized into nanosize is dispersed in a liquid medium (excluding water) in a good dispersed state. Therefore, the coating film or the molded product (cellulose resin composite material) obtained by using the cellulose resin liquid composition of the present invention effectively exhibits the reinforcing effect of cellulose as a filler.
<Cellulose dispersion composition>
Hereinafter, embodiments of the present invention will be described, but the present invention is not limited to the following embodiments. Cellulose has a large number of hydroxyl groups in its structure, so that it is highly hydrophilic and exhibits a strong aggregating action due to hydrogen bonds. For this reason, it is not easy to disperse cellulose in a hydrophobic liquid medium at the nano-sized or micro-sized level. In particular, it is difficult to finely disperse cellulose in a liquid medium having a significantly low polarity.
By grafting the polymer (a) on the surface of the dispersed cellulose (b) (nanocellulose) deflated to nano size in water, the polymer (a) is dissolved in the hydrophobic liquid medium (d), and the cellulose (B) can be dispersed in the liquid medium (d) in nanosize. When the cellulose (b) is dispersed in a non-aqueous liquid medium (d), it is necessary to dry the deflated cellulose (b) in water. However, when the nano-sized deflated cellulose (b) is dried in water, the cellulose (b) aggregates. On the other hand, when the polymer (a) is grafted on the cellulose (b), the contact between the celluloses (b) is suppressed by the intervention of the polymer (a) even when the polymer (a) is dried, and the cellulose (b) is suppressed. ) Can be prevented from agglomerating and maintained in a nano-sized dispersed state.
That is, the cellulose dispersion composition of the present invention (hereinafter, also simply referred to as “dispersion liquid”) comprises grafted cellulose (c) in which the polymer (a) is grafted on cellulose (b) and grafted cellulose (c). It contains a liquid medium (d) other than water as a dispersion medium. Hereinafter, the details of the cellulose dispersion composition of the present invention will be described.

Specifically, among the above-mentioned monomer group (e), (meth) acrylic acid, methyl (meth) acrylate, benzyl (meth) acrylate, 2-hydroxyethyl (meth) acrylate, (meth) acrylic acid. 2-Hydroxypropyl, poly (n = 2 or more) alkylene (2-4 carbon atoms) glycol mono (meth) acrylate, alkoxy (1-18 carbon atoms) polyalkylene (2-4 carbon atoms) glycol (meth) acrylate, Dimethylaminoethyl poly (meth) acrylate and its quaternary salt, diethylaminoethyl (meth) acrylate and its quaternary salt, and glycidyl (meth) acrylate are preferred.
The polymer (a) contains 50% by mass or more, preferably 80% by mass or more, of structural units derived from at least one monomer selected from the above-mentioned monomer group (e). When the content of the specific structural unit contained in the polymer (a) is 50% by mass or more, the polymer (a) is easily formed by the aqueous polymerization, and the polymer (a) is adjusted to the characteristics of the liquid medium (d). Can be designed.
The polystyrene-equivalent number average molecular weight (Mn) of the polymer (a) measured by gel permeation chromatography (GPC) is preferably 1,000 to 20,000. If the number average molecular weight of the polymer (a) is less than 1,000, the molecular weight may be too small and the dispersibility may be slightly lowered. On the other hand, if the number average molecular weight of the polymer (a) is more than 20,000, the viscosity of the dispersion liquid may become too high.
[Cellulose (b)]
The pulp (vegetable fiber) used as the raw material for cellulose (b) includes natural cellulose obtained from natural plant raw materials such as wood, bamboo, hemp, jute, kenaf, cotton, beet, agricultural waste, and cloth; paper, rayon. , Regenerated cellulose fibers such as cellophane and the like can be mentioned. Examples of the wood include spruce, sugi, cypress, eucalyptus, acacia and the like. Examples of the paper include deinked used paper, corrugated cardboard used paper, magazines, copy paper and the like. Lignocellulosic, which is the main component of pulp, is mainly composed of cellulose, hemicellulose, and lignin, and each of them is combined to form plant fiber. Pulp can be obtained by mechanically or chemically treating plant fibers containing lignocellulosic to remove hemicellulose and lignin and increase the pure content of cellulose. In addition, the amount of lignin in the obtained pulp can be controlled by bleaching treatment or adjusting the amount of lignin to be removed as needed.
The pulp includes chemical pulp (craft pulp (KP), sulfite pulp (SP)), semi-chemical pulp (SCP), chemigrand pulp (CGP), and chemimechanical pulp obtained by mechanically or chemically treating plant fibers. CMP), crushed wood pulp (GP), refiner mechanical pulp (RMP), thermomechanical pulp (TWP), chemithermomechanical pulp (CTMP); Pulp and the like can be mentioned. Among them, various kraft pulps derived from softwood having strong fiber strength (conifer unbleached kraft pulp (NUKP), softwood oxygen-exposed unbleached kraft pulp (NOKP), softwood bleached kraft pulp (NBKP)) are preferable. The lignin content in the pulp is usually 0 to 40% by mass, preferably 0 to 10% by mass. The lignin content in the pulp can be measured by the Klason method.
As the cellulose (b), it is preferable to use nanocellulose having an average fiber width of 4 to 200 nm. The amount of cellulose (b) in the dispersion can be set arbitrarily. By containing cellulose (b) at a higher concentration, a raw material composition capable of providing composite materials having various cellulose concentrations can be obtained. The content of cellulose (b) in the dispersion is preferably 0.5 to 30% by mass, more preferably 1 to 20% by mass. The average fiber width of nanocellulose means the number average value of the fiber width measured for at least 50 or more nanocellulose in the field of view of an electron microscope.
[Grafted Cellulose (c)]
The grafted cellulose (c) may be one in which the polymer (a) is grafted only on the surface of the cellulose (b), and the polymer (a) may not be grafted on all the molecular chains of the cellulose (b). good. If the polymer (a) is grafted on all of the molecular chains of the cellulose (b), the grafted cellulose (c) may be easily dissolved in the dispersion medium, and the strength of the composite material may be slightly insufficient. be. That is, the degree of substitution of the polymer (a) with the cellulose (b) is preferably less than 1 (that is, less than one chain of the polymer (a) is grafted per glucose ring), preferably less than 0.1. Is more preferable.
In the grafted cellulose (c), the content of the polymer (a) with respect to 100 parts by mass of the cellulose (b) is 100 to 900 parts by mass, preferably 200 to 600 parts by mass. When the content of the polymer (a) with respect to 100 parts by mass of the cellulose (b) is less than 100 parts by mass, the grafted cellulose (c) aggregates to form an agglomerate by drying, and the liquid medium (d). ) It becomes difficult to disperse in. On the other hand, when the content of the polymer (a) with respect to 100 parts by mass of the cellulose (b) is more than 900 parts by mass, the amount of the cellulose (b) is too small and the properties of the polymer (a) are remarkably exhibited. Therefore, it becomes difficult to obtain a cellulose resin composite material having the desired properties. The content of the cellulose (b) in the grafted cellulose (c) is preferably 10 to 50% by mass.
(Liquid medium (d))
The liquid medium (d) is a medium other than water, which is a dispersion medium for the grafted cellulose (c). As the liquid medium (d), an organic solvent containing a monomer, an oligomer, or the like can be used. Examples of the organic solvent include alcohols, hydrocarbon solvents, halogenated hydrocarbon solvents, ester solvents, ketone solvents, glycol solvents, glycol ester solvents, ether solvents, amide solvents, urea solvents, and ions. Examples thereof include liquids and sulfoxide-based solvents. By mixing these organic solvents with the grafted cellulose (c) and dissolving, for example, the polymer (a), the cellulose (b) can be dispersed in the organic solvent.
If a dispersion liquid using an organic solvent as a dispersion medium is applied as it is, a coating film as a cellulose resin composite material can be formed. Further, by adding a dispersion liquid to a conventionally known paint or ink and compounding it with a polymer component blended in the paint or ink, a composite material in which cellulose (b) is dispersed can also be obtained.
Further, the liquid medium (d) is preferably at least one of a reactive monomer and a reactive oligomer having a specific functional group. Specific functional groups include at least one selected from the group consisting of α, β-unsaturated carbonyl groups, epoxy groups, and oxetanyl groups. For a dispersion containing such a reactive liquid medium (d) as a dispersion medium, a resin composite in which cellulose (b) is dispersed in a nano size by polymerizing, reacting, or curing the liquid medium (d). It can be used as a material. That is, a dispersion liquid containing the reactive liquid medium (d) as a dispersion medium can be used as a thermosetting ink, an ultraviolet curable ink, an electron beam curable ink, and a coating agent.
Among the reactive monomers and the reactive oligomers, the compounds having an α, β-unsaturated carbonyl group include (meth) acrylic acid-based monomers; (meth) acrylamide-based monomers; (meth) acrylonitrile-based monomers; styrene-based monomers; Examples thereof include vinyl-based monomers such as vinyl acetate, N-vinylcarbazole, N-vinylcaprolactam, ethyl vinyl ether, and butyl vinyl ether.
<Manufacturing method of cellulose dispersion composition>
The method for producing a cellulose dispersion composition of the present invention includes a step of defibrating pulp to obtain hydrous cellulose (hereinafter, also referred to as "defibration step") and graft polymerization in an aqueous medium containing the obtained hydrous cellulose. The step of forming the polymer (a) to obtain the grafted cellulose (c) (hereinafter, also referred to as “grafting step”) and the obtained grafted cellulose (c) have a water content of 20% by mass or less. It has a step (hereinafter, also referred to as “dispersion step”) of drying to the liquid medium (d) and then dispersing the mixture in the liquid medium (d). The details will be described below.
In the defibration step, pulp is defibrated to obtain water-containing cellulose (hydrous cellulose). Specific examples of the method for defibrating pulp include a refiner, a high-pressure homogenizer, a grinder, a uniaxial kneader, a twin-screw kneader, a multi-screw kneader, and a bead mill for an aqueous suspension or slurry of a cellulose-containing material. There are methods such as mechanically grinding or beating using it. Preferably, hydrous cellulose containing nano-sized cellulose can be obtained by defibrating the pulp in an aqueous medium.
The hydroxyl groups of cellulose obtained by defibrating pulp in an aqueous medium bond with water to stabilize nano-sized cellulose. However, when the cellulose is dried to remove water or an organic solvent is added, the hydroxyl groups of the cellulose are hydrogen-bonded to each other, so that the cellulose tends to aggregate and it becomes difficult to maintain the nano size. Therefore, in the grafting step, the hydrous cellulose obtained in the defibration step is not dried to remove water, or an organic solvent is not added to the hydrous cellulose, and graft polymerization is carried out in an aqueous medium in a hydrous state. As a result, grafted cellulose (c) finely dispersed in nano size or the like can be obtained without substantially agglomerating.
By polymerizing a predetermined monomer by a conventionally known graft polymerization method, the polymer (a) can be grafted onto the cellulose (b) to obtain the grafted cellulose (c). As the graft polymerization method, (i) an inorganic salt such as cerium, a water-soluble azo radical initiator, and a water-soluble peroxide are used, and a monomer is polymerized in water to carry out graft polymerization; (ii) to the hydroxyl group of cellulose. A method of graft-polymerizing a monomer after imparting a polymerizable functional group (unsaturated bond, azo group, peroxide group, initiating group of living radical polymerization, etc.); Method of reacting the polymer at the terminal with cellulose; (iv) After converting the hydroxyl group of cellulose to another functional group (initiating group), or by reacting the hydroxyl group of cellulose with a silane coupling agent, the functional group (iv) After the starting group), a method of graft-polymerizing a monomer from these starting groups or reacting with a polymer having a group capable of reacting with these starting groups; and the like can be mentioned.
It is preferable to form the polymer (a) by radical polymerization using a cerium salt in an aqueous medium containing hydrous cellulose. Radical polymerization using a cerium salt suppresses the polymerization of monomers to form a homopolymer, and more efficiently grafted cellulose (c) in which the polymer (a) is grafted on the cellulose (b). Can be generated. As the cerium salt, a tetravalent cerium salt that can generate radicals can be used. Specific examples of the cerium salt include cerium ammonium nitrate, lithium cerium nitrate, sodium cerium nitrate, potassium cerium nitrate, and ammonium cerium sulfate. The amount of the cerium salt used in the graft polymerization is preferably 0.1 to 3% by mass with respect to the monomer.
In the dispersion step, the grafted cellulose (c) obtained in the above-mentioned graft step is dried until the water content becomes 20% by mass or less, and then dispersed in the liquid medium (d). As a result, the desired cellulose dispersion composition can be obtained. After the graft polymerization, for example, filtration and washing are performed to obtain a water paste of grafted cellulose (c). Since the filtrate contains cerium salt, it is preferable to recover it. The obtained water paste can be used as it is. Further, since the polymer (a) is grafted on the cellulose (b), it does not easily aggregate even when dried. Further, since the grafted cellulose (c) is dispersed in the non-aqueous liquid medium (d), it is preferable to keep the grafted cellulose (c) in a dry state with water removed. Therefore, the water paste is dried by a conventionally known method to obtain grafted cellulose (c) which is a dried product having a water content of 20% by mass or less, preferably 5% by mass or less.
A cellulose dispersion liquid composition can be obtained by dispersing the grafted cellulose (c) dried to a predetermined water content in the liquid medium (d) by a conventionally known method. In order to disperse the grafted cellulose (c) in the liquid medium (d), the liquid medium (d) and the grafted cellulose (c) may be mixed at a predetermined ratio, and a mixer such as a stirrer or a homogenizer may be used. May be used and mixed. When a high-viscosity liquid medium (d) is used, a mixing / dispersing machine such as a double-roll, triple-roll, single-screw extruder, twin-screw extruder, or kneader can be used. It is preferable to use these mixing and dispersing machines to disperse until nanocellulose is obtained.
Ingredients (additives) other than the grafted cellulose (c) and the liquid medium (d) may be blended. Additives include dyes, pigments, UV absorbers, light stabilizers, antioxidants, lubricants, pigment dispersants, surfactants, antistatic agents, antibacterial agents, antifungal agents, antifogging agents, fillers, inorganics. Examples thereof include fillers, fibers, carbon nanofillers, photoinitiators, photoacid generators, photobase generators and the like.
<Cellulose resin composite material>
The cellulose resin composite material of the present invention (hereinafter, also simply referred to as “composite material”) is a cellulose (b) (grafted cellulose (c)) such as nanocellulose obtained by using the above-mentioned cellulose dispersion liquid composition. It is a finely dispersed composite material. The content of cellulose (b) in this composite material is 0.5 to 10% by mass, preferably 1 to 8% by mass.
Since cellulose (b) is finely dispersed in the composite material, it has a reinforcing effect of reinforcing the base resin and improving physical properties such as strength. If the content of cellulose (b) is less than 0.5% by mass, the reinforcing effect becomes insufficient. On the other hand, if the content of the cellulose (b) is more than 10% by mass, the grafted cellulose (c) becomes excessive, so that the fibers are likely to pop out from the surface and the molded product is easily whitened, which may impair the appearance. be.
The composite material can be produced, for example, by applying the above-mentioned cellulose dispersion composition to a desired shape by a conventionally known coating method, printing method, printing method, curing method, or the like. The above-mentioned dispersion liquid and the composite material using the above-mentioned dispersion liquid are, for example, paints, coating materials, sealing materials, waterproof materials, and linings constituting automobiles, home appliances, electronic members, display materials, buildings, containers, films, batteries and the like. It is useful as a material for materials, encapsulants, adhesive tapes, adhesive sheets, pressure-sensitive adhesives, adhesive processed products, joint materials, and the like.
Hereinafter, the present invention will be specifically described based on examples, but the present invention is not limited to these examples. (Comparative Examples 11 to 16: Dispersion Liquid-26 to 31)
The water-containing CNF-1 was dried at 80 ° C. and then pulverized using a small pulverizer to obtain a dry powder of CNF-1 (solid content 98.9%). Then, in the same manner as in Example 1 described above, the dispersion liquid was used in the same manner as in Example 1 above, except that the obtained dry powder of CNF-1 was used in place of the grafted CNF-1 so as to have the ratio shown in Table 2-2. -26-31 was obtained. Table 2-2 shows the measurement results of the viscosities (25 ° C., 60 rpm) of the obtained dispersions −26 to 31. Table 2-2 shows the results of confirming the state after standing at 25 ° C. for 1 hour.
FIG. 1 is a diagram showing a state after allowing the dispersion liquid-1 to stand for 1 hour. As shown in FIG. 1, it can be seen that the cellulose in the dispersion liquid-1 did not settle even after being allowed to stand for 1 hour, and maintained a uniform dispersed state. FIG. 2 is a diagram showing a state after the dispersion liquid-16 is allowed to stand for 1 hour. As shown in FIG. 2, it can be seen that the cellulose in the dispersion liquid-16 settled after standing for 1 hour, and the dispersed state was not maintained.
<応用例>
<Application example>
(Manufacturing of PMMA resin plate)
100 parts of MMA and 0.001 part of 2,2'-azobisisobutylnitrile were placed in a reactor equipped with a stirrer, a reflux condenser, a thermometer, and a nitrogen introduction tube. The mixture was heated to 70 ° C. and polymerized for 1 hour to obtain a methyl methacrylate syrup having a number average molecular weight of 300,000 and a content of 10% polymethyl methacrylate. Next, 100 parts of the dispersion liquid-1 and 0.05 part of 2,2'-azobisisobutylnitrile were added to homogenize the mixture, and the grafted CNF-1 content was 2.7% and the cellulose content. Acrylic syrup containing CNF having a value of 1.0% was obtained. The viscosity (25 ° C.) of the obtained acrylic syrup was 140 mPa · s. A cell was constructed using a gasket made of vinyl chloride resin and two glass plates arranged so as to face each other with a gap of 2 mm by the gasket. After injecting the above acrylic syrup into the constituent cells, the cells were heated at 72 ° C. for 3 hours. Further, it was heated at 120 ° C. for 40 minutes to obtain a substantially transparent PMMA resin plate (thickness of about 2 mm) in which CNF was uniformly dispersed.
Further, the same PMMA resin plate in which CNF was uniformly dispersed could be obtained even in the same manner as above except that the dispersion liquids 2 to 6 were used instead of the dispersion liquid -1. On the other hand, when the dispersions -16, 17, and 26 were used, there were foreign substances, and only an opaque PMMA resin plate could be obtained.
