Abstract
Description
図1は第1の実施形態の電気化学反応装置1を示す図である。図1に示す電気化学反応装置1Aは、CO2を含む第1の電解液2を収容する第1の収容部3と水を含む第2の電解液4を収容する第2の収容部5と隔膜6とを有する反応槽7、第1の収容部3内に配置された還元電極(カソード)8、及び第2の収容部5内に配置された酸化電極(アノード)9を備える電気化学反応セル10と、還元電極8と酸化電極9に接続された電源11と、第1の収容部3で生成した還元反応生成物を第1の電解液2から分離する第1の生成物分離部12と、第2の収容部5で生成した酸化反応生成物を第2の電解液4から分離する第2の生成物分離部13と、第1の収容部3内の圧力を調整する圧力調整部14と、還元電極8で生成される物質の量及び種類の少なくとも一方を検知する反応物検知部15と、反応物検知部15の検知信号に基づいて圧力調整部14を制御する制御部16とを備えている。以下、各部について詳述する。

なお、CO2の還元反応は、COの生成反応に限らず、エタノール(C2H5OH)、エチレン(C2H4)、エタン(C2H6)、メタン(CH4)、メタノール(CH3OH)、酢酸(CH3COOH)、プロパノール(C3H7OH)等の生成反応であってもよい。
次に、第2の実施形態の電気化学反応装置1について、図3を参照して説明する。図3に示す電気化学反応装置1Bは、CO2を含むガス(単に、CO2ガスと記す場合もある)又はCO2を含む第1の電解液(カソード溶液)の還元電極8との接触方式、及び水を含む第2の電解液(アノード溶液)の酸化電極9との接触方式、還元電極8及び酸化電極9と電源11との接続方式が、第1の実施形態の電気化学反応装置1Aとは異なっている。それら以外の各部の構成、例えば還元電極、酸化電極、隔膜、第1の電解液、第2の電解液、電源等の具体的な構成、生成物の分離、生成物の検知、生成物の検知結果に基づく圧力調整等は、第1の実施形態と同様とされている。なお、第2の実施形態においては、CO2を含む第1の電解液に代えてCO2を含むガスを用いることができる。
図1に構成を示した電気化学反応装置1Aを製造した。まず、この電気化学反応装置1Aを用いて、第1の収容部3の圧力を制御することで、還元電極8の電位が制御可能かどうかの検証を行った。この検証実験においては、制御部16を作動させず、生成物の反応物検知部15の読み取り及び圧力調整部14の動作を人為的に操作した。
次に、第1の収容部の圧力を制御することで、還元電極の電位が制御可能かどうかを検証した。運転方法としては、セルに3.0Vの電圧を印加した状態で、圧力調整ユニットであるリリーフバルブを任意に絞り、その際の還元電極電位の変化を観察した。その結果を図5及び図6に示す。図5は圧力センサーで第1の収容部(カソード室)内の圧力をモニターしたグラフであり、図6は生成物検知ユニットであるデータロガーに記録された還元電極の電位である。図5及び図6より、第1の収容部(カソード室)内の圧力が上がることで、電極電位が圧力変化に対応して増加することが分かる。

- 二酸化炭素を収容するための第1の収容部と、水を含む電解液を収容するための第2の収容部と、前記第1の収容部と前記第2の収容部との間に設けられた隔膜とを備える反応部と、
前記二酸化炭素を還元する還元電極と、
前記水を酸化する酸化電極と、
前記還元電極と前記酸化電極との間に電流を流す電源と、
前記第1の収容部内の圧力を調整する圧力調整部と、
前記還元電極で生成される物質の量及び種類の少なくとも一方を検知する反応物検知部と、
前記反応物検知部の検知信号に基づいて前記圧力調整部を制御する制御部と
を具備する電気化学反応装置。 - 前記反応物検知部は、前記第1の収容部で生成される物質を分析する分析部を備える、請求項1に記載の電気化学反応装置。
- 前記反応物検知部は、前記還元電極の電位を監視する電極電位監視部を備える、請求項1に記載の電気化学反応装置。
- 前記反応物検知部は、前記還元電極及び前記酸化電極の電圧及び電流の少なくとも一方を監視する電圧及び電流監視部を備える、請求項1に記載の電気化学反応装置。
- 前記第1の収容部内の圧力は0.1MPa以上6.4MPa以下となるように調整される、請求項1ないし請求項4のいずれか1項に記載の電気化学反応装置。
- さらに、前記第2の収容部内の圧力を調整する第2の圧力調整部を具備する、請求項1ないし請求項5のいずれか1項に記載の電気化学反応装置。
- 前記第1の収容部内の圧力と前記第2の収容部内の圧力との差が0.5MPa以下となるように調整される、請求項6に記載の電気化学反応装置。
- 前記反応部は、前記二酸化炭素を含む電解液を前記還元電極と接するように収容する前記第1の収容部と、前記水を含む電解液を前記酸化電極と接するように収容する前記第2の収容部とを備える、請求項1ないし請求項7のいずれか1項に記載の電気化学反応装置。
- 前記反応部は、前記第1の収容部として、前記二酸化炭素を含むガス又は電解液を前記還元電極と接するように流通させる第1の流路と、前記第2の収容部として、前記水を含む電解液を前記酸化電極と接するように流通させる第2の流路とを備える、請求項1ないし請求項7のいずれか1項に記載の電気化学反応装置。
