Claims (8)
- 複数本のソース線及び複数本のゲート線と、前記複数本のソース線と前記複数本のゲート線との交差部の各々にマトリクス状に設けられた複数個の画素スイッチ及び画素部と、を有する表示パネルと、
パルス幅に応じた選択期間において前記画素スイッチをオンに制御するゲート信号を前記複数本のゲート線に供給するゲートドライバと、
画像データ信号を受け、前記画像データ信号に基づいて前記複数個の画素部の各々を供給対象とする階調電圧信号を生成するソースドライバと、
前記画像データ信号を前記ソースドライバに供給するタイミングコントローラと、
前記表示パネルの表示画面を分割した複数のエリアの各々を照明するバックライトの光量を制御する照明駆動部と、
を有し、
前記ソースドライバ又は前記タイミングコントローラは、前記表示パネルの前記複数のエリアの各々に対応する前記画像データ信号の特徴量を算出し、エリア毎の前記特徴量に応じたバックライトの光量を示す調光データ信号を前記照明駆動部に供給し、
前記照明駆動部は、前記調光データ信号に基づいて、前記複数のエリアの各々に対するバックライトの光量を制御することを特徴とする表示装置。 - 前記ソースドライバ又は前記タイミングコントローラは、前記複数のエリアの各々に対応する前記画像データ信号の画素の階調に基づいて前記特徴量を算出し、算出した前記特徴量に基づいて前記調光データ信号を生成するローカルディミング機能部を有することを特徴とする請求項1に記載の表示装置。
- 前記ローカルディミング機能部は、
前記複数のエリアの各々に対応する前記画素データ信号のエリア毎の階調の平均値を前記特徴量として算出する階調平均算出部と、
前記エリア毎の階調の平均値に基づいて、前記複数のエリアの各々に対するバックライトの調光量を算出する調光量算出部と、
を有することを特徴とする請求項2に記載の表示装置。 - 前記ローカルディミング機能部は、前記複数のエリアの各々に対応する前記画像データ信号の階調と、当該エリアに隣接するエリアに対応する前記画像データ信号の階調と、に基づいて前記複数のエリアの各々についての前記特徴量を算出することを特徴とする請求項2に記載の表示装置。
- マトリクス状に設けられた複数個の画素部を有する表示パネルと、前記表示パネルの表示画面を分割した複数のエリアの各々を照明するバックライトの光量を制御する照明駆動部と、に接続され、画像データ信号に基づいて前記複数個の画素部の各々を供給対象とする階調電圧信号を生成するソースドライバであって、
前記画像データ信号を受け、前記表示パネルの前記複数のエリアの各々に対応する前記画像データ信号の特徴量を算出し、エリア毎の前記特徴量に応じたバックライトの光量を示す調光データ信号を前記照明駆動部に供給するローカルディミング機能部を有することを特徴とするソースドライバ。 - 前記ローカルディミング機能部は、前記複数のエリアの各々に対応する前記画像データ信号の画素の階調に基づいて前記特徴量を算出し、算出した前記特徴量に基づいて前記調光データ信号を生成することを特徴とする請求項5に記載のソースドライバ。
- 前記ローカルディミング機能部は、
前記複数のエリアの各々に対応する前記画素データ信号のエリア毎の階調の平均値を前記特徴量として算出する階調平均算出部と、
前記エリア毎の階調の平均値に基づいて、前記複数のエリアの各々に対するバックライトの調光量を算出する調光量算出部と、
を有することを特徴とする請求項6に記載のソースドライバ。 - 前記ローカルディミング機能部は、前記複数のエリアの各々に対応する前記画像データ信号の階調と、当該エリアに隣接するエリアに対応する前記画像データ信号の階調と、に基づいて前記複数のエリアの各々についての前記特徴量を算出することを特徴とする請求項6に記載のソースドライバ。
