- 前記マルチビューディスプレイの複数の異なるビューを提供するように構成されたマルチビューピクセルのアレイであって、前記アレイのマルチビューピクセルが、複数の指向性光ビームを変調するように構成された複数のライトバルブを備える、マルチビューピクセルのアレイと、
複数のマルチビーム要素であって、前記複数のマルチビーム要素のマルチビーム要素(a multibeam element)が、前記複数の指向性光ビームを提供するように構成された、複数のマルチビーム要素と、
前記マルチビューピクセルアレイと前記複数のマルチビーム要素との間の複数のマイクロレンズであって、前記複数のマイクロレンズのマイクロレンズ(a microlens)が、前記マルチビューディスプレイの前記複数の異なるビューのそれぞれのビュー方向に対応するように前記複数の指向性光ビームの指向性光ビームの方向(directions of directional light beams)を調整するように構成された、複数のマイクロレンズと
を備えるマルチビューディスプレイ。 - 前記マルチビーム要素のサイズは、前記複数のライトバルブのライトバルブのサイズの半分より大きく、前記ライトバルブのサイズの2倍より小さい、請求項10に記載のマルチビューディスプレイ。
- 光を導波光として誘導するように構成された光ガイドをさらに備え、前記複数のマルチビーム要素の前記マルチビーム要素(the multibeam element)は、前記複数の指向性光ビームとして前記導波光の一部を光ガイドから散乱させるように構成される、請求項10に記載のマルチビューディスプレイ。
- 前記マルチビーム要素は、前記光ガイドに光学的に結合されて前記導波光の一部を散乱する回折格子、マイクロ反射要素、およびマイクロ屈折要素のうちの1つを備える、請求項12に記載のマルチビューディスプレイ。
- 前記回折格子が複数の回折格子を備える、請求項13に記載のマルチビューディスプレイ。
- 前記マイクロレンズが、前記複数の指向性光ビームの角度の広がりを減少させることにより、前記指向性光ビームの前記方向(the directions of the directional light beams)を調整するように構成された収束レンズを備える、請求項10に記載のマルチビューディスプレイ。
- 前記マイクロレンズが、前記複数の指向性光ビームの角度の広がりを増大させることにより、前記指向性光ビームの前記方向(the directions of the directional light beams)を調整するように構成された発散レンズを備える、請求項10に記載のマルチビューディスプレイ。
- マルチビューバックライトを動作させる方法であって、
光を光ガイドの長さに沿って伝播方向に導波光として誘導すること、
複数の指向性光ビームを提供するために、マルチビーム要素を使用して、前記光ガイドから前記導波光の一部を散乱させることであって、前記複数の指向性光ビームの指向性光ビームが互いに異なる方向を有する、散乱させること、および
マイクロレンズを使用して前記指向性光ビームの前記方向(the directions of the directional light beams)を調整することであって、前記調整された方向が、前記マルチビューバックライトを使用するマルチビューディスプレイのそれぞれ異なるビュー方向に対応する、調整すること
を含み、
前記マルチビーム要素のサイズが、前記マルチビューディスプレイのマルチビューピクセルのサブピクセルのサイズに匹敵する
方法。 - 前記マルチビーム要素が、前記光ガイドに光学的に結合されて、前記導波光部分を散乱させる、光学ディフューザー、回折格子、マイクロ反射要素、およびマイクロ屈折要素のうちの1つまたはそれ以上を備える、請求項17に記載のマルチビューバックライトを動作させる方法。
- 前記マイクロレンズが収束レンズであり、前記方向は、前記複数の指向性光ビームの角度の広がりを減少させるように調整される、請求項17に記載のマルチビューバックライトを動作させる方法。
- 光源を使用して、前記光ガイドに光を提供することをさらに含み、前記提供された光は、前記光ガイド内で非ゼロ伝播角を有すること、および前記導波光の所定の角度の広がりを提供するコリメーション係数に従ってコリメートされることの1つまたは双方を有する導波光として誘導される、請求項17に記載のマルチビューバックライトを動作させる方法。
