Abstract

The present invention recognizes that there is a long-standing need for brush heads and brushes having material application and buffing properties. A first aspect of the present invention is a brush head. A second aspect of the present invention is a brush including the brush head of the present invention. A third aspect of the present invention is a method of manufacturing the brush head of the present invention. A fourth aspect of the present invention is a method for manufacturing the brush of the present invention. A fifth aspect of the present invention is a method of using the brush head of the present invention. A sixth aspect of the invention is a method of using the brush of the invention. A further aspect is a brush head having an outer bristle zone and a convex inner bristle zone.

Description

Cross-reference of related applications

This application is a continuation of United States Design Patent Application No. 29/485,705, filed March 21, 2014, filed July 31, 2014, entitled "Brush Head with Processed Bristles, Brush, Method." is a continuation-in-part application of US Patent Application No. 14/447,974 entitled "Making of Method of Using Same". The present invention relates generally to the field of brush heads, brushes and methods of making and using them.

A wide variety of brush heads and brushes are used for a variety of purposes, such as cleaning surfaces and applying materials to surfaces for industrial, hobby, artistic, and cosmetic purposes. The number and type of brushes vary, but none of them have the properties of the brush head and brushes of the present invention, which are brush heads and brushes having concave bristles. Neither is a brush having the physical properties and material application properties of the present invention known.

For example, U.S. Pat. No. D663,957S issued to Garcia on July 24, 2012 refers to a brush with a clear gap in the center of the brush, which brush is obviously a hobby. And used for art purposes. The central gap is clearly too small to accept the substance, and even if it could, the intent of this brush is clearly the purpose of, for example, cups, plates, figurines, and paintings on canvas. When used to paint a surface for a craft or art project, the material is rubbed or streaked when applied to the surface for an artistic effect.

A common problem with conventional brushes is that the cosmetic or other substance cannot be applied uniformly, especially, but not exclusively, in the case of cosmetic application, rubbing, streaking, or non-sticking. A natural or undesired look or appearance can occur. However, although the present invention focuses on preventing or reducing such rubbing or streaking, it need not be.

Moreover, another problem with conventional brushes is that they are difficult to hold and apply, especially solid materials such as powder cosmetics. U.S. Pat. No. 1,120,476 issued to Hansen discloses a shaving brush having outer and inner bristles that provide a spreading member and a powder retaining member. In Hansen, the outer ends of the inner bristles lie in the same general plane as the extended ends of the outer bristles and are parallel to the extended ends of the outer bristles.

Another brush provides the shaving brush with the appearance, texture, and feel of badger bristles, and with synthetic bristles placed into the tufts that also have antimicrobial properties, US Patent to Mink et al. Only one tuft or bristle zone is provided, such as published application 2009/0089949. Further, US Pat. No. 5,195,546 issued to Cansler discloses a cosmetic brush for applying a powder made from synthetic bristle, the synthetic bristle extending along the length of the bristle. It has a gentle, random and irregular wavy composition.

Conventional brushes may not be able to easily pick up and hold solid or powdered materials such as powder cosmetics. As a result, the solid material can fall from the brush head as it is transferred to the surface, causing smearing and impeding the application of the solid material to the surface. Moreover, conventional brushes, including cosmetic brushes, may not be well suited for the application of solid materials such as powdered cosmetics to large surface areas such as the human neck or shoulders. As a result, the complete application of the solid material to the desired surface can be time consuming, and the user collects the solid cosmetic onto a brush to completely cover the surface and then apply the cosmetic to the surface. A further aspect of the present invention is a brush head for applying a solid material, comprising an outer bristle zone and an inner bristle zone defining a reservoir, the inner bristle zone having a convex configuration in longitudinal section, the application to a surface. The present invention further relates to a brush head having a convex inner recessed bristle zone, which brush head is preferably used for applying solid cosmetics such as powder cosmetics, which solid medicines are medicinal, cosmeceutical or similar. It can be considered to include topically applied materials.

The invention further relates to a system for applying a solid material to a surface using a brush head, the brush head comprising an outer bristle zone and an inner recessed bristle zone defining a reservoir, the inner bristle zone being convex in longitudinal section. The invention further provides a method for manufacturing a brush and/or a brushhead, which comprises providing bristles, arranging the bristles in an inner zone and an outer zone, and bringing the bristles into a brushhead of the invention. These aspects of the invention, as well as others described herein, can be achieved by using the methods, products, and compositions described herein. It will be further appreciated that various aspects of the invention can be combined to create desirable embodiments of the invention in order to provide a thorough understanding of the scope of the invention.

I. Brush head

A first aspect of the invention is a brush head that includes a) an outer bristle zone and b) an inner recessed bristle zone.

There is an outer bristle zone that provides an inner recessed bristle zone, as shown in FIGS. 1-11, which illustrate, but are not limited to, the preferred embodiment of the invention. The brush head of this embodiment of the invention does not necessarily have this particular configuration.

The cosmetic product is dispersed on the surface of the object in such a way as to reduce, and otherwise provide a more uniform and satisfactory overall application of the cosmetic product to the surface of the object.

In addition to cosmetic brush heads, the brush heads of the present invention can be used for the purpose of applying other materials to other surfaces and for other purposes. As an example, the brush head can be used to apply other pigment-containing materials such as paints and inks to the surface. Industrial and art applications are part of the present invention.

Furthermore, the brush head of the present invention can be applied to cleaning and the like.

As shown in the drawings, the preferred embodiment of the invention is circular or substantially circular with respect to the inner and outer zones, but it need not be. For example, the outer zone may be circular and the inner zone may be circular or polygonal, such as an octagon.

In another aspect of the invention, the shape of the outer zone, the inner zone, or a combination thereof is generally geometric, generally non-geometric, or a combination thereof.

Combinations of various geometric or non-geometric configurations are part of this invention. As an example, the outer zone may be circular or kidney-shaped, while the inner zone may be hexagonal or amoebic, the same or different shapes are used, and geometric and non-geometric shapes are also used. The embodiment as shown in FIG. 12 with the convex inner zone is particularly useful for the application of solid cosmetics such as powder foundations, bronzers and highlighters, among others. In some embodiments, the powder cosmetics used with the brush head can have a particle size of from about 1 to about 100 microns, but the brush is suitable for the application of solid materials having various particle sizes and size distributions. In an additional aspect of any of the various embodiments of the invention, the bristle can be made of natural materials, synthetic materials, or combinations thereof.

The bristles can be made of any suitable material. Natural materials including, but not limited to, animal products such as hair or plant materials such as fibers are useful in the present invention. Synthetic materials such as plastics, polymers, nylon, as well as other polymers or non-polymers are also useful in the present invention. In one embodiment, the inner zone and/or outer zone bristles are comprised of polybutylene terephthalate (PBT).

In another aspect of the invention, the outer bristle zone and the inner bristle zone are made of the same material or different materials or combinations of materials.

The brush heads of the present invention can all be made of one type of bristles, or can be made of more than one type of bristles. In the case of two or more types of bristles, they can be provided as a total mixture or they can be provided in different areas of the brush head in different proportions. The ratio can be anywhere from 0% to 100%.

In a further aspect of the embodiment of the present invention shown in FIGS. 1-11, the inner bristle zone has a higher packing density than the outer bristle zone, ie, the inner bristle zone has more bristle per unit area. The inner bristle zone, at least a portion of which is lower than the height of the outer bristle zone, allows the two zones to define a reservoir in which the cosmetic product can be supported for application. In another aspect of the invention, the brush head has an inner bristle zone that is less wettable than the outer bristle zone.

Wettability refers to the degree of absorption of liquid onto surfaces such as the inner and outer zones of the brush head. Preferably, the liquid material brought into the inner zone will be "beaded" or otherwise not absorbed by the bristle at this location and thus more available for application to the object at the location of application. Thus, the wettability of the inner zone is lower than that of the outer zone.

Wettability, in some cases, is related to the physical properties of the surface and the liquid applied to the surface and can be measured by measuring the contact angle. In one example, a hydrophilic liquid, when applied to a hydrophobic surface, behaves like a bead on the surface and thus is considered to have a relatively large contact angle as compared to the contact angle of the hydrophilic liquid on the hydrophilic surface. In a further aspect of the invention, the inner bristle zone is less wettable than the outer bristle zone or more wettable than the outer bristle zone for aqueous solutions, polar solutions, polar liquids, or combinations thereof.

In another aspect of the invention, the inner bristle zone is less wettable than the outer bristle zone for non-aqueous solutions, non-polar solutions, or non-polar liquids, or combinations thereof.

In a further aspect of the invention, the inner bristle zone is less wettable with respect to the emulsion than the outer bristle zone.

In a further aspect of the invention, the outer bristle zone and the inner bristle zone cooperatively define a reservoir for a material such as, but not limited to, a liquid material. When applying the material to the surface, the inner bristle zone can essentially provide additional material for further and sustained application of material.

In another aspect of the invention, the inner bristle zone may be partially wettable with respect to materials such as, but not limited to, liquid materials. This aspect of the invention is preferred when the inner bristle zone functions as a reservoir of material. In this case, the material can "penetrate" into the inner bristle zone while still being available for application to the surface.

In another aspect of the invention, the outer zone has a higher buff finish, a lower likelihood of streaking, or a combination thereof, as compared to the inner zone.

Thus, in a preferred embodiment of the present invention, during operation, the inner zone effectively holds the material in place for application to the surface and the outer zone provides the material with the desired effect to the surface. Brush heads are routinely used in painting for occupations such as houses or fences, entertainment such as hobbies, or artistic purposes. In certain applications of the present invention, streaking and buffing are desired and can be incorporated into artistic representations of paintings, for example, where various art tools are used. One interesting example is the use of the present invention in imitation finishing of furniture, walls, and ceilings where tools such as those of the present invention are required for the desired effect.

In one preferred aspect of the invention, the surface is human, preferably skin, and more preferably an exposed surface that is visible to the human eye. In that case, the head, neck, shoulders, and face are preferred for cosmetics, although certain cosmetics are used to hide certain defects due to pigmentation, scarring, or other causes, but it need not be. In a further aspect of the invention, the inner and outer bristle zones define a reservoir for a material such as, but not limited to, a liquid material or a solid material, the solid material preferably being in powder form. When applying the material to the surface, the inner bristle zone can essentially provide additional material for further and sustained application of material. In embodiments where a liquid cosmetic is used, the liquid cosmetic can be applied to the brush and retained in the reservoir for application to the surface. The liquid cosmetic product is retained in the reservoir and does not flow down the bristles into the bottom of the brush head or the handle attached to the brush head. The liquid cosmetic product can then be applied to the surface in the event of a spill or drip.

In embodiments where a powder cosmetic is used, the powder cosmetic is provided in a container, compact, or other packaging or the like. Embodiments of the brush head having an inner bristle zone with a convex configuration can be inverted and pressed into the powder cosmetic so that the brush head contacts the powder cosmetic. The powder cosmetic is held on the brush head, such as on the inner zone bristles or between the inner zone bristles, with the outer bristle zone helping to keep the powder within the inner zone. A brush head with a powdered cosmetic product can be applied to the surface to transfer the cosmetic product to the surface. Preferably, the brush head is pressed against the surface in a circular or sweeping motion so that the powdered cosmetic product is expelled from the bristles and moved to the surface. The outer and/or inner bristle zones can then be used to buff or smooth the cosmetic applied to the surface.

In another aspect of the invention, the inner bristle zone may be partially wettable with respect to the material, where the material is not limited to a liquid material. This aspect of the invention is preferred when the inner bristle zone functions as a reservoir of material. In this case, the material can "penetrate" into the inner bristle zone while still being available for application to the surface.

VI. How to use the brush

A sixth aspect of the present invention comprises: a) providing a surface to which the material is to be applied; b) providing the brush of the present invention; c) applying the material to the brush; and d) providing the material. Moving the brush head to the surface.

As mentioned above with respect to the use of the brush head, the brush of the present invention can be used in the same or similar manner as the brush head, the places mentioned above being incorporated herein by reference.

Example 1: Development of technology

This example presents and reveals an early development of the technology, as well as a prototype brush head, a brush, its manufacturing method and its use. Bare Escentuals cosmetic liquid products (viscous liquid, non-emulsion, specific gravity 1.13 to 1.20, viscosity 580 to 1,100 cp with the general characteristics of BARESKIN® PURE BRIGHTENGING SERUM FOUNDATION, Item No. /Stock number 70723) to evaluate application to a human surface such as the face, a few large drops of Bare Escentuals' standard large brush made from a few drops of this liquid product made of polymer bristles (PBT-polybutylene terephthalate). Non-trimmed brush heads appear to have the ability to buff, which is a desirable property for cosmetic applications. A brush head is produced with the general characteristics of the figure. A preferred brush head and brush for applying liquid materials such as liquid cosmetics is shown in the figure. The preferred brush heads and brushes are PBT (polybutylene terephthalate) bristles (0.7 mm PTV WAVE (wavy/irregular shaped bristles)), anodized aluminum ferrules, and Bare Escentuals PERFECTING with the general characteristics of wooden handles. As shown in FIGS. 1 and 6, the brush can include a brush head (100), a ferrule (110), and a handle (120). As shown in FIGS. 1 and 6, the brush can include a brush head (100), a ferrule (110), and a handle (120). The brush head includes an outer bristle zone (130) and an inner recessed bristle zone (140). Example 4: Preferred brush head and preferred method of using the brush

In a preferred embodiment of the present invention, a few drops of liquid cosmetic material such as BARESKIN® PURE BRIGHTENING SERUM FOUNDATION, Item No./Stock No. 70723 are used. The user then optionally dabs or spots the cosmetic from the surface from the inner zone of the brush head, such as the skin of the user or other object. The cosmetic can be applied to the surface in any desired pattern or amount to achieve the desired result. Thus, the cosmetic product is applied to the surface. Brushes are used to buff cosmetics for a consistent, "clean" desired application without streaks. Optionally, the cosmetic is buffed at the same time as it is applied to achieve the desired result, rather than lightly tapped or spotted onto the object.

As shown in FIGS. 1 and 6, the brush can include a brush head (100), a ferrule (110), and a handle (120). The brush head includes an outer bristle zone (130) and an inner recessed bristle zone (140). Overall, FIGS. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 6, 7, 8, 9, and 11 are all books for applying liquid cosmetics to surfaces. 1 illustrates a preferred brush head and brush of the invention.

Typical dimensions are shown in FIG. Furthermore, FIG. 11 shows the preferred dimensions and preferred dimension ratios in mm for particularly preferred brushes and brush heads of the present invention. For example, the present invention is not limited to a particular size or ratio, 200 is about 16.5 mm, 210 is about 13.5 mm, 222 is about 45 mm, 230 is about 75 mm, 240 is about. It is 136.5 mm. The error is generally between +/− about 0.1% and about 10%, preferably between about 0.5% and about 5%, more preferably between about 1% and about 2%. Specific sizes and ratios can be tailored to specific brush heads or brushes for specific purposes and functions.

The user may also optionally apply cosmetics to the outer zone as desired to obtain the desired result under circumstances that dictate deviations from the preferred use as indicated. The entire surface, such as a human face, can be treated, or only a portion thereof.

This process generally evenly distributes cosmetic products such as liquid foundations, removes excess product, and provides a texture and appearance that is closer to the skin than if another brush or method were used.

In a preferred embodiment of the present invention, the user drops the liquid foundation product into the recessed bristle region which has the properties of material application and buffing. This "loaded" brush is then applied with a puncturing motion to various areas of the face in order to disperse the product onto the face. The user then brushes the spots to evenly distribute the product across the face or the desired narrower area. Preferably, the user does not need to apply the product anywhere other than the brush and face at any time. For example, the user's fingers and hands can preferably be kept clean and product-free, or substantially free, throughout the life of the brush. This aspect of the invention has particular advantages, such as the material not being transported or transferred to other surfaces or objects such as, but not limited to, clothing and furniture.

In a further preferred embodiment of the invention, the inner bristle zone forms a reservoir for a material such as, but not limited to, a liquid material. When applying the material to the surface, the inner bristle zone can essentially provide additional material for further and sustained application of material.

In another preferred aspect of the invention, the inner bristles zone may be partially wettable with respect to materials such as, but not limited to, liquid materials. This aspect of the invention is preferred when the inner bristle zone functions as a reservoir of material. In this case, the material can "penetrate" into the inner bristle zone while still being available for application to the surface.

Example 5: Preferred Brush Head and Brush

A preferred brush head and brush for applying a solid cosmetic product, such as a powder cosmetic product, is shown in the embodiment of Figures 12-21. Preferred brush heads and brushes have the general characteristics of wavy synthetic fibers such as polybutylene terephthalate (PBT) bristles having a diameter of 0.07 mm, anodized aluminum handles, and aluminum rings that hold and hold the bristles in place. In a preferred embodiment, the brush further comprises a small weight (380) located inside the handle at the lower end of the handle opposite the brush head.

The general dimensions of the preferred embodiment of the brush are shown in FIGS. For example, the present invention is not limited to particular dimensions or ratios, the handle (320) has a width _{w 2} of the length _{l 4} and about 30mm to about 60 mm. Thus, the ratio of handle length to handle width may be between about 4:1 and 1:1 and is 2:1 in the preferred embodiment. The handle (320) is preferably of generally cylindrical construction. The ring (310) preferably has a length l ₁ of about 55.5 mm and a width w _{1 of} about 28.7 mm so that the ring fits within the handle and the brush head comprises a ring and a brush head. Has a length l ₃ of about 31 mm extending from the ring, such that the overall length l _{2 of the} is about 86.5 mm. The outer bristle zone (330) has a length l ₅ of about 28 mm extending from the handle such that the overall length l ₆ of the brush, including the handle and brush head, is about 88 mm. The highest point of the inner zone (340) is lower than the outer bristle zone by a difference d _{1 of} about 1.0 mm. The error is +/-0.1% to about 10%, preferably about 0.5% to about 5%, more preferably about 1% to about 2%. Specific sizes and ratios can be tailored to specific brush heads or brushes for specific purposes and functions.

Example 6: Method of using brush head and brush

This example presents and demonstrates a preferred embodiment of the invention, as shown in FIGS. FIG. 21 shows an embodiment of a brush used in combination with the solid cosmetic product (510), which brush is used to transfer the solid cosmetic product contained and stored in the container (500) to the surface.

In use, the user grasps the handle of a brush, such as the BEA ETHUALS BEAUTIFUL FINISH brush, inverts the brush, and provides a circular lid with solid foundation placed in it, such as Bare Scientific's ORIGINAL Foundation Spread Spectrum SPF 15 material. Place the brush head into the container or lid containing the. The user can apply downward pressure to engage the brush head, especially the convex inner zone of the brush head, with the solid material and move the brush in a circular or swirling motion to pick up and hold the solid cosmetic product with the brush head. The cosmetic may be retained on and/or in the inner bristle zone, the outer bristle zone serving to retain the cosmetic in the brush head. The user can then move the solid material by contacting the brush head with a surface such as human skin, and the user applies slight pressure to move the brush in a circular or brushing motion to move the material. It can be applied to the surface and the large brush head allows a large area to be quickly covered by the brush head, allowing large quantities of product to adhere to the surface. The brush head, and in particular the outer zone of the brush head, can then be used to buff and smooth the cosmetic onto the surface to provide a fast, even and controlled surface coverage.

The brush head according to claim 1, wherein the inner recess bristle zone is rounded in a vertical cross section. The brush head of claim 1, wherein the outer bristles zone has a flat surface defined by the tips of the bristles. The brush head of claim 1, wherein the outer bristle zone comprises an outwardly tapered configuration. The brush head according to claim 1, wherein a peripheral shape of the outer bristle zone in a cross section is substantially circular. The brush head according to claim 5, wherein a peripheral shape of the inner recessed bristle zone in a cross section is substantially circular. The brush head of claim 1, wherein the inner recessed bristle zone comprises a packing density higher than a packing density of the outer bristle zone. The brush head according to claim 1, wherein a highest point of the inner concave bristle zone is lower than a height of the outer bristle zone. The brush head of claim 1, wherein the solid material is a powdered cosmetic product. The brush head of claim 1, wherein the solid material is a drug. A system for applying cosmetics using a brush head, comprising:
A brush head having an outer bristle zone defining a reservoir and an inner recess bristle zone;

Providing a brush head having an outer bristle zone defining a reservoir and an inner recessed bristle zone, wherein the inner recessed bristle zone is convex in a longitudinal section,
Applying the cosmetic product to the brush head so that the cosmetic product is held by the brush head;
Transferring the cosmetic product to a surface. 18. Applying a cosmetic product to the brush head comprises pressing the brush head into the cosmetic product such that the cosmetic product is retained on and/or between the bristles of the inner recess bristle zone. the method of. 18. The method of claim 17, wherein moving the cosmetic product to a surface comprises pressing the brush head against the surface to bring the cosmetic product into contact with the surface. 20. The method of claim 19, wherein pressing the brush head against a surface comprises moving the brush head in a circular or sweeping motion over the surface. 18. The method of claim 17, further comprising moving the outer bristle zone against the surface to buff and/or smooth the cosmetic. 18.
