Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to a non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery.
Conventionally, a non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery including a positive electrode active material (for example, lithium nickel manganese oxide having a spinel structure) whose operating upper limit potential is 4.35 V or higher with respect to metallic lithium is known. In this non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery, when the potential of the positive electrode active material (equal to the positive electrode potential) becomes 4.35 V or more by charging, the solvent of the non-aqueous electrolyte solution is oxidized and decomposed on the surface of the positive electrode active material. In some cases, hydrogen ions generated thereby react with fluorine ions in the non-aqueous electrolyte to generate hydrofluoric acid (HF). Due to the action of the hydrofluoric acid, the transition metal in the positive electrode active material may be eluted, and the battery performance (charge / discharge cycle characteristics) may be deteriorated.
On the other hand, Patent Document 1 discloses a material in which a coating containing F (fluorine element) is formed on the surface of a positive electrode active material made of a spinel-structure lithium nickel manganese oxide. Specifically, the positive electrode active material is exposed to fluorine gas, and a protective film made of a material derived from fluorine gas is formed on the surface of the positive electrode active material. In Patent Document 1, by forming a protective film on the surface of the positive electrode active material, direct contact between the atoms of the positive electrode active material and the non-aqueous electrolyte is reduced, and also contains F derived from fluorine gas. The material is described as being capable of effectively suppressing the decomposition reaction of the non-aqueous electrolyte because the material itself exists as a robust film that is hardly oxidized. Thereby, it is described that the charge / discharge cycle characteristics of the battery can be improved.
However, since the material containing F derived from fluorine gas has low Li ion conductivity, the non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery proposed in Patent Document 1 has extremely high internal resistance and greatly deteriorates output characteristics. There was a fear.
This invention is made | formed in view of this present condition, Comprising: It aims at providing the non-aqueous-electrolyte secondary battery with favorable charging / discharging cycling characteristics and small internal resistance.
One embodiment of the present invention is a non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery including a positive electrode, a negative electrode, and a non-aqueous electrolyte solution containing a compound having a fluorine element. A positive electrode active material having a reference voltage of 4.35 V or more, and a protective film covering the surface of the positive electrode active material, the protective film containing fluorine and phosphorus elements as film components, The thickness of the film is a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery having a thickness in the range of 6 nm to 15 nm.
The non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery described above is a non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery in which the operating upper limit potential of the positive electrode active material (that is, the operating upper limit potential of the positive electrode) is 4.35 V or higher with respect to metallic lithium.
In this non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery, a protective film containing fluorine element (F) and phosphorus element (P) as film components is formed on the surface of the positive electrode active material. As described above, when the surface of the positive electrode active material is coated with the protective coating containing the elemental fluorine (F), the potential of the positive electrode active material (equal to the potential of the positive electrode) becomes 4.35 V or more by charging. However, it is possible to reduce the oxidative decomposition of the solvent of the nonaqueous electrolytic solution on the surface of the positive electrode active material. Furthermore, since phosphorus element (P) is contained in the protective coating, the Li ion conductivity of the protective coating can be increased, and the internal resistance of the battery can be lowered.
Furthermore, in the non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery described above, the thickness of the protective coating is in the range of 6 nm to 15 nm. By setting the thickness of the protective coating to 6 nm or more, it is possible to effectively reduce the oxidative decomposition of the solvent of the nonaqueous electrolytic solution on the surface of the positive electrode active material. For this reason, “hydrogen ions generated by oxidative decomposition of the solvent and fluorine ions in the non-aqueous electrolyte react to generate hydrofluoric acid (HF), and the action of the hydrofluoric acid causes the transition metal in the positive electrode active material to form. Elution "can be effectively reduced. Thereby, the charge / discharge cycle characteristics of the battery can be improved.
However, if the thickness of the protective film is excessively increased, even if phosphorus element (P) is contained, the Li ion conductivity of the protective film is lowered and the internal resistance of the battery is increased. On the other hand, in the above-mentioned non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery, the thickness of the protective film is 15 nm or less. Thereby, Li ion conductivity of a protective film can be made favorable. Therefore, the internal resistance of the battery can be made sufficiently small.
As described above, the non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery described above is a non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery having good charge / discharge cycle characteristics and low internal resistance.
In addition, “the positive electrode active material whose operating upper limit potential is 4.35 V or more on the basis of metallic lithium” is the SOC (State of Charge) range of 0% to 100% of the non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery described above. The positive electrode active material in which the redox potential (operating potential) of the positive electrode active material is 4.35 V (vs. Li / Li + ) or higher. In the non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery including this positive electrode active material, the positive electrode potential (equal to the positive electrode active material potential) is 4.35 V (vs. Li / Li + ) or more in the range of
In addition, the “protective film containing fluorine element (F) and phosphorus element (P) as a film component” can be formed as follows, for example.
First, a positive electrode active material paste having a working upper limit potential of 4.35 V or more based on metallic lithium, a conductive material, a binder, lithium phosphate, and a solvent are kneaded to prepare a positive electrode mixture paste. The main point is that lithium phosphate (Li 3 PO 4 ) is contained in the positive electrode mixture paste. Next, this positive electrode mixture paste is applied to the surface of the current collecting member and dried to produce a positive electrode having a positive electrode mixture layer on the surface of the current collecting member. Next, the positive electrode, the negative electrode, and a non-aqueous electrolyte containing a compound having a fluorine element (F) are accommodated in a battery case to assemble a non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery. Thereafter, the non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery is initially charged (charged until the potential of the positive electrode active material becomes 4.35 V or more).
Thereby, the solvent of the non-aqueous electrolyte solution is oxidized and decomposed on the surface of the positive electrode active material, and hydrogen ions generated thereby react with fluorine ions in the non-aqueous electrolyte solution to generate hydrofluoric acid (HF). Then, the generated hydrofluoric acid (HF) reacts with lithium phosphate (Li 3 PO 4 ) in the positive electrode mixture layer, so that the surface of the positive electrode active material has fluorine element (F) and phosphorus element (P). Is formed. Specifically, a compound having a fluorine element (more specifically, a fluorine compound, for example, LiF) and a compound having a phosphorus element (more specifically, a compound having a phosphate ion, for example, Li 3 PO 4 , Li 2 HPO 4 , LiH 2 PO 4 , H 3 PO 4, and the like). Thus, in a battery in which a protective film is formed on the surface of the positive electrode active material, even when the battery is charged until the potential of the positive electrode active material (equal to the potential of the positive electrode) is 4.35 V or more, non-aqueous electrolysis is performed. It is possible to suppress oxidative decomposition of the liquid solvent on the surface of the positive electrode active material.
In the step of initially charging the nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery, the generated hydrofluoric acid reacts with lithium phosphate, so that the generated hydrofluoric acid can be effectively reduced. For this reason, also in the process of initial charge, it can suppress that the transition metal in a positive electrode active material elutes by the effect | action of a hydrofluoric acid.

In the present embodiment, spinel-structure lithium nickel manganese oxide (specifically, LiNi 0.5 Mn 1.5 O 4 ) is used as the positive electrode active material 11. The positive electrode active material 11 is a positive electrode active material having an operating upper limit potential of 4.35 V or more with respect to metallic lithium. That is, the positive electrode active material 11 has an oxidation-reduction potential (operating potential) of 4.35 V (vs. Li / Li + ) within the SOC of 100% to 100% of the non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery 100. ) The positive electrode active material as described above. Therefore, in the nonaqueous electrolyte
負極合材層159は、負極活物質18と、CMC(カルボキシメチルセルロース)と、SBR(スチレンブタジエンラバー)からなるバインダーと含んでいる。
Further, as shown in FIG. 4, the

The separator 157 is a separator made of a resin film having electrical insulation. The separator 157 is interposed between the
In the present embodiment, as the
Incidentally, in the non-aqueous electrolyte
Thus, by covering the surface of the positive electrode active material 11 with the
Moreover, in the nonaqueous electrolyte
By setting the thickness of the
However, if the thickness of the
Note that the thickness of the
Moreover, the thickness of the
Moreover, the component of the
Next, a method for manufacturing the nonaqueous electrolyte

Next, it progressed to step S4 and the nonaqueous electrolyte

Next, it progresses to step S5 and the initial charge is performed about the non-aqueous-electrolyte
Then, the non-aqueous electrolyte
Incidentally, in the present embodiment, as described above, in step S1 (positive electrode mix paste preparation step), the positive electrode active material 11 (LiNi 0.5 Mn 1.5 O 4 ), the conductive material 12 (acetylene black), a binder 13 (PVDF) In addition to the solvent and the solvent (NMP), lithium phosphate 14 (Li 3 PO 4 ) is further mixed to produce a positive electrode mixture paste. Thereby, in the positive electrode mixture layer 152 formed by drying the positive electrode mixture paste, the lithium phosphate 14 can be disposed over the entire positive electrode mixture layer 152.
Thus, in the step of initially charging the nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery 100 (step S5), when the potential of the positive electrode active material 11 (equal to the potential of the positive electrode 155) becomes 4.35 V or more, the
Specifically, a compound having a fluorine element (more specifically, a fluorine compound, for example, LiF) and a compound having a phosphorus element (more specifically, a compound having a phosphate ion, for example, Li 3 PO 4 , Li 2 HPO 4 , LiH 2 PO 4 , H 3 PO 4, etc.). Thus, in the non-aqueous electrolyte
In the step of initially charging the non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery 100 (step S5), the generated hydrofluoric acid reacts with the lithium phosphate 14, whereby the generated hydrofluoric acid can be effectively reduced. For this reason, also in the process (step S5) of initial charge, it can suppress that the transition metal (Mn) in the positive electrode active material 11 elutes by the effect | action of a hydrofluoric acid.

In Example 1, the thickness of the
In addition, the thickness of the

(Reference Example 1)
In Reference Example 1, the thickness of the protective coating is 20 nm. Specifically, in the step of initially charging the non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery 100 (step S5), the charging current value was set to 2.0C. That is, the non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery was initially charged to a SOC of 100% (until the battery voltage value reached 4.9 V) at a constant current value of 2.0 C. As a result, a protective film having a thickness of 20 nm could be formed on the surface of the positive electrode active material 11. In Reference Example 1, as compared with Example 1, only the current value of the initial charge is different, and the other is the same, and a non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery is manufactured.
As a result of XPS analysis, the protective coating of Reference Example 1 also contained elemental fluorine (F) and elemental phosphorus (P).
(Comparative Example 1)
In Comparative Example 1, a protective film is not formed. Specifically, in Step S1, a positive electrode mixture paste was prepared without adding lithium phosphate 14. About other points, it carried out similarly to Example 2, and produced the nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery. The nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery according to Comparative Example 1 after the initial charge was disassembled, the positive electrode active material was taken out and washed, and the cut surface of the positive electrode active material was observed as described above. No protective coating was present on the surface of the film.
(Charge / discharge cycle test)
The non-aqueous electrolyte secondary batteries of Examples 1 to 3, Reference Example 1 and Comparative Example 1 were subjected to a charge / discharge cycle test, and the capacity retention rates after the charge / discharge cycle test were compared.
First, the initial capacity of each non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery was measured. Specifically, for each non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery (having
Next, a charge / discharge cycle was performed for each non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery in a temperature environment of 60 ° C. Specifically, 200 charge / discharge cycles were performed with a charge upper limit battery voltage value of 4.9 V, a discharge lower limit battery voltage value of 3.5 V, and a charge / discharge current value of 2 C. Note that when the battery voltage value reaches 4.9 V, the potential of the positive electrode (equal to the potential of the positive electrode active material) is 4.35 V or more.
After the charge / discharge cycle, the battery capacity (referred to as post-cycle capacity) was measured for each non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery. The capacity measurement method is the same as the initial capacity measurement method. And based on the following arithmetic formula (1), the capacity | capacitance maintenance factor after a charging / discharging cycle was computed about each non-aqueous-electrolyte secondary battery. The results are shown in Table 1. FIG. 7 shows a correlation diagram between the thickness (film thickness) of the protective coating and the capacity retention rate.
Capacity maintenance ratio (%) = (Capacity after cycle / Initial capacity) × 100 (1)
As shown in Table 1 and FIG. 7, in Comparative Example 1 in which no protective film was present on the surface of the positive electrode active material, the capacity retention ratio was 79.2%, and the charge / discharge cycle characteristics were not preferable. The reason is that the potential of the positive electrode active material (equal to the positive electrode potential) is repeatedly increased to 4.35 V or more by the charge / discharge cycle, so that the solvent of the non-aqueous electrolyte is oxidized on the surface of the positive electrode active material. It is considered that a large amount of hydrofluoric acid (HF) was generated by the reaction of the decomposition repeatedly and the large amount of hydrogen ions generated thereby reacting with the fluorine ions in the non-aqueous electrolyte. It is considered that due to the action of hydrofluoric acid, a large amount of transition metal was eluted from the positive electrode active material, and the charge / discharge cycle characteristics (capacity maintenance ratio) were greatly reduced.
On the other hand, in the non-aqueous electrolyte secondary batteries (Examples 1 to 3 and Reference Example 1) in which the thickness of the protective coating was 6 nm or more, the capacity retention rate was 84.0% or more, which was satisfactory. The discharge cycle characteristics are shown.
The reason is that even if the potential of the positive electrode active material (equal to the potential of the positive electrode) is repeatedly increased to 4.35 V or more due to the charge / discharge cycle, the
(IV resistance measurement test)
Moreover, the internal resistance was measured for the non-aqueous electrolyte secondary batteries of Examples 1 to 3, Reference Example 1 and Comparative Example 1 described above. In this test, the IV resistance value is measured as the internal resistance of the battery. Specifically, each non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery is adjusted to a SOC of 60%, discharged at a constant current value of 1 C for 10 seconds in a temperature environment of 25 ° C., and a battery at the end of discharge. The voltage value was measured. Furthermore, only the discharge current value was different from 3C, 5C, and 10C, and discharge was performed under the same conditions as above, and the battery voltage value at the end of discharge for 10 seconds was measured according to each discharge current value. .
Thereafter, for each non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery, the data obtained by the above discharge was plotted on a coordinate plane with the horizontal axis representing the discharge current value and the vertical axis representing the battery voltage value at the end of discharge. And about each non-aqueous-electrolyte secondary battery, the approximate straight line (primary formula) was computed by the least squares method based on these plot data. The inclination was obtained as the IV resistance value of each non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery. And each IV resistance value with respect to IV resistance value of the comparative example 1 about each nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery about the IV resistance value of the nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery of the comparative example 1 as a reference | standard (= 1.0) The ratio of values (battery resistance ratio) was calculated. The results are shown in Table 1. FIG. 7 shows a correlation diagram between the thickness (film thickness) of the protective coating and the battery resistance ratio.
From Table 1 and FIG. 7, in Comparative Example 1 in which the protective film does not exist on the surface of the positive electrode active material, the internal resistance (IV resistance) of the battery is the smallest, and the internal resistance (IV resistance) of the battery increases as the protective film becomes thicker. You can see it grows. More specifically, in a non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery (Examples 1 to 3) having a thickness of the
On the other hand, in the nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery (Reference Example 1) having a thickness of the
From these results, it can be said that the internal resistance of the battery can be reduced by setting the thickness of the protective coating to 15 nm or less.
As described above, the surface of the positive electrode active material is coated with “a protective film containing fluorine element (F) and phosphorus element (P) as a film component”, and the thickness of the protective film is 6 nm or more and 15 nm or less. The non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery within the range can be said to be a non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery having good charge / discharge cycle characteristics and low internal resistance.
